The No S Diet [title edited by MNHQ]

I've decided that I finally need to commit to losing my baby weight. I have 2 stone (ideally more to lose). But will just take it half a stone at a time. I am not really into crazy diets. So I've gone for the 's' diet which is basically eat sensibly diet! No snacks, seconds or 'sweets' (includes cakes etc ) except on days beginning with s (weekends and special days). So three meals a day basically. Does anyone want to join me or be my supporter? I lost 1.5 lb the first week, but then gained 0.3. Next weigh in is Monday and today I was 2.5lb lighter so I'm hoping I will have lost something. I am piling up a bit on the meals but figure that I need that to stick to it at the moment. Hopefully as I adjust I can make the meals smaller/healthier too. Looking forward to the weekend for a pudding and some wine!

Hello Round. It took me three weeks to get into the no-snacking groove. So I didn't weigh myself for those first three weeks (training period!). Since then I have lost about 1 Kg each week (but it's only been 2 weeks so this weight loss may not continue). In my opinion it is a very good eating plan and very easy to stick to once you have got rid of your snacking habit.

PosiePootlePerkins · 31/01/2017 18:19

Hi round and welcome to NoS! This is a slow weight loss plan but is really good at addressing your relationship with food.
Regarding plates, I agree with twofloorsup about having big platefuls to get you through to the next meal. You can have a glass of milk and cups of tea/coffee which can be helpful when you're struggling. Is there any way you can eat your meal earlier? I find it really hard to last past 6pm and usually eat with the kids because its easier. Also I like having a mini fast between 6pm and 7am, I think it is helping wth the weight loss.
You definitely do get used to the hunger, it is very strange not snacking at first but once you've adjusted it honestly feels normal. I have lost 11 pounds over 4 months so not a quick loss but it feels like a way of eating I can stick with for life, and I've never felt that way about any diet ever before!
Good luck, lots of friendly support on here, also lots of info on the NoS website.

Roundisashape · 31/01/2017 19:59

Thank you twofloors, posie and cake. I am convinced. Consider me joining 😉. I think the idea of not weighing myself for a few weeks might be a good one, to stop me obsessing. It would be ideal to eat earlier but do might object to my abandoning him. Maybe I will try a couple of days a week.

Thank you for the welcome.

twofloorsup · 31/01/2017 20:20

Round I don't weigh myself at all.
For me it's about a change in lifelong habits and if I lose weight along the way well fab.
I'm actually struggling tonight I just want to snack despite not having done so for a whole month now !

AristonAndOn · 31/01/2017 20:21

Hi Round. Welcome to the group, I've found the support here amazing. Really helped me feel better mentally and physically. Good luck Smile

AristonAndOn · 01/02/2017 13:44

Today i have completed 4 weeks of no S diet. I feel a thousand times better than this time last month. I feel in control of myself, yes I'm still hungry before meals, but not starving, I can cope and I'm not deprived as I eat what I like! I am making time to enjoy my food. I sit down more and appreciate what is there. My children are enjoying their food more. I'm making better choices, I'm not making different meals to suit my diet and theirs. I have more energy. I have a long weight loss journey ahead, but I have lost 1 stone 4 lbs and that is a great start. Feeling positive today. GrinGrinGrinGrinGrin

twofloorsup · 01/02/2017 14:20

Well done Ariston that's pretty awesome Smile

OohNoDooEy · 01/02/2017 14:47

Wow Ariston! Amazing Star

I'm over the hump for another week and still going strong. I've really noticed how much more alert I feel without the sugar low. I'm really not thinking about what else I'm eating at meal times either, just not eating the embarrassing amount of sugary snacks I have done previously.

Round I weigh myself everyday. I have no idea why, it is a terrible habit and it doesn't help anything.

Roundisashape · 01/02/2017 14:49

Very inspiring Ariston!

I have so far made it through breakfast and lunch. But I will shortly be heading into my danger zone. My extreme eat everything in the house/office/shop wherever I may be hours. My teeth are gritted.

OohNoDooEy · 01/02/2017 14:52

You can do it round I found the first week the hardest but honestly since then I've just got on with it. I have chewed gum some days just to tide me over the 3pm snack time!

AristonAndOn · 01/02/2017 16:05

Yes round you can do it. I found the first week so hard just because I was so used to grazing all day. It's gets better then you feel great 😀

Roundisashape · 01/02/2017 16:27

Thanks both. I'm holding firm. I would like to think I have at least enough will power to get through the first day, but really my rounder shape would probably tell me otherwise Grin.

I suppose it is trying to break bad habits and that is going to take some time.

In about an hour you will find me putting all your solutions into play at once. I shall be chewing gum, whilst drinking milk and doing some sort of complex yoga manoeuvres to be mindful whilst distracting myself!

PosiePootlePerkins · 01/02/2017 17:31

Good luck round hope the gum/milk/yoga combo worksGrin Seriously if you can just get through the first day, then the next, before you know it you'll have a week under your belt. I promise it will get easier. In your head plan all the treats you will allow yourself on Saturday. I think about my next meal/next S day a lot!
Ariston I've said it before but its worth saying again, I am so so pleased this is working for you. I know how difficult it was for you to take the plunge but you've come such a long way in such a short time. You are an inspirationStarStarStar

beela · 01/02/2017 18:15

ariston that's amazing, well done!

Nan0second · 01/02/2017 19:55

600g loss here so "good enough".
We're on annual leave and having a staycation but I'm not snacking or having pudding even if the meals are a bit more glam than they would be otherwise!
Managing not snacking quite well - it's becoming a habit now I'm entering week 4. Easier to have nothing than a little sugar for me...

eltsihT · 01/02/2017 21:11

Somehow I lost 4lb last week. But. Even really struggling between 4 and 7 with not eating. It's so hard being hungry and preparing the kids food and not eating it. I know if I keep at it it will get better.

Hopefully I can stick to no s'ing properly tomorrow and. Or have a slice of cake with the kids after their tea.

Roundisashape · 01/02/2017 21:14

Saturday cannot come soon enough, but I've made it through day 1. Am feeling somewhat unsatisfied. May have to buy some raisins to have after dinner, just for the pretence of something sweet.

Well done nan0. By my calls 600g must be about a 1lb. I would be very pleased with that. And especially when on holiday.

Roundisashape · 01/02/2017 21:15

Calcs even

AristonAndOn · 01/02/2017 21:56

Thank you for the well dones! And well done to everyone else for their successes this week. I guess my challenge will be when the weight loss stops and I still keep to the diet. Losing weight is very motivating, hit a bump and continuing is harder.

PosiePootlePerkins · 01/02/2017 22:10

Ariston I agree. But even so, at least with NoS you still have the benefits of ordered eating habits, even when the scales don't move. My bump will be maintenance. Once I've lost all I would like (probably another stone and a half so still a way to go) I am not sure how I'll be. I have always just returned to my old bad habits. I so hope this is the diet to fix that for me.
Round well done, day one ticked off! I would advise against the raisins, just because you're really trying to kick the sweet tooth habit, plus the seconds/dessert habit, in the week at least. Probably better to have a coffee or fruit tea - something liquid - whatever takes your fancy, if you need a 'finish' to the day. Not that I am any sort of expert, but have picked up a few tips along the way, especially from the NoS forum.
EltsihT well done 4lbs is fab! Keep it up you're doing so well.

PosiePootlePerkins · 01/02/2017 22:11

NanOSecond well done on your loss too, especially sticking to plan while on holiday.

twofloorsup · 01/02/2017 22:16

I have been served notice on my flat today. It was a shock and completely out of the blue and totally not what I want at all (leaves me on a very difficult position to find something else).
BUT - get this - I haven't eaten my worries for the first time EVER Smile
A sure sign of changed habits.

beela · 01/02/2017 22:19

round it says on the website that fruit is fine... I've been having a satsuma at the end of a meal occasionally if I feel like something.

beela · 01/02/2017 22:22

twofloorsup sorry to hear that.... but well done on resisting the comfort food! Hope you manage to get something sorted soon Flowers

twofloorsup · 01/02/2017 22:24

Thank you.
