The No S Diet [title edited by MNHQ]

I've decided that I finally need to commit to losing my baby weight. I have 2 stone (ideally more to lose). But will just take it half a stone at a time. I am not really into crazy diets. So I've gone for the 's' diet which is basically eat sensibly diet! No snacks, seconds or 'sweets' (includes cakes etc ) except on days beginning with s (weekends and special days). So three meals a day basically. Does anyone want to join me or be my supporter? I lost 1.5 lb the first week, but then gained 0.3. Next weigh in is Monday and today I was 2.5lb lighter so I'm hoping I will have lost something. I am piling up a bit on the meals but figure that I need that to stick to it at the moment. Hopefully as I adjust I can make the meals smaller/healthier too. Looking forward to the weekend for a pudding and some wine!

Welcome chocoholic The NoS diet is No snacks, seconds or sweets except for days beginning with S ie weekends and special days like birthdays. It is a slow weight loss plan and designed to address bad habits around food. It is a way of eating for life rather than a quick fix. So basically 3 meals a day during the week and nothing inbetween.
There's a website which will tell you most of what you need to know, and a book if you want further reading.

PosiePootlePerkins · 24/01/2017 21:31

Lessthan I did smile at the thought of you licking a malteser! But good on you for throwing it away, awesome willpower!
eltsihT my DH works away a lot and I find eating with the kids actually really helps me. I'm not tempted to pick at their tea and also I like a good long gap between dinner and breakfast, I think it helps.
Ariston light headedness doesn't sound good, do you think its still sugar withdrawal? Hope you're OK.
I am doing OK, could have really eaten something sweet today but managed to resist.

chocoholic89 · 24/01/2017 21:37

Thanks artist I have just Googled it and sounds good! Going to nip by the chemist tomorrow and get a proper weigh in on those fancy machines. Day 1 starts tomorrow!

PosiePootlePerkins · 24/01/2017 21:42

Good luck chocoholicSmile

twofloorsup · 24/01/2017 21:47

Welcome chocoholic.

chocoholic89 · 24/01/2017 21:52

Thanks posie need to do this iv had 2 children in 2 years but my youngest is 2 so need to now concentrate on sorting myself out I'm a size 16 and feel very chubby. I do plenty of walking to and from school ext. .plenty of running about after Dc but must admit I do over indulge.

PosiePootlePerkins · 24/01/2017 21:55

Lots of friendly support on this thread, any questions and we'll do our best to help!

AristonAndOn · 24/01/2017 22:28

Hi Posie. I'm lightheaded I'm sure just because I'm running out of calories. I wasn't a big sugar eater, though it has definately reduced. Today I had a bigger breakfast and that sustained me longer. I'm proud to say I have lost 1 stone in 3 weeks!!

eltsihT · 25/01/2017 05:10

My problem with eating with the kids is dinner is at 5 so round about 8 I get suddenly hungry.

I currently eat breakfast at 6am lunch at 1.10 and dinner at 7.30. When dh is away I eat at 5 which leaves lots of the evening on my own in an quiet house.

You are right though it does stop me polishing off their food. But when they are eating I try to have a hot drink (generally 1/3 fruit juice 2/3 hot water). Which helps a lot.

eltsihT · 25/01/2017 05:12

Ariston. That's impressive!

I get light headed when my iron is low have you had some blood work done reacently?

AristonAndOn · 25/01/2017 06:15

No I haven't in a while, but it's only started since starting the diet. I was eating a lot of food and I have another 6 stone to lose so I know I'm just using up all the energy before the next meal. Having a bigger breakfast which egg did the trick yesterday.

PosiePootlePerkins · 25/01/2017 06:37

Ariston you could be right, definitely a good idea to have some protein and a large enough meal to keep you going. One stone in three weeks is amazing! I bet that's some kind of record for NoSHaloStar
eltsihT yes I know what you mean about the quiet evenings. I get so bored sometimes and feel a bit of a prisoner in my own home. (DH goes away a lot!) I think that's why in the past I have turned to food as a 'treat' in the evenings. But I am doing OK with hunger, I think I have got used to it now.

chocoholic89 · 25/01/2017 07:01

Morning, I have a question, I get that there's no snacking so I guess that means I have fruit just after my meals in the day?

eltsihT · 25/01/2017 08:27

I think the general rule of thumb is you have 1 plate of food at, breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I always try to have fruit on my breakfast and lunch plates. So breakfast this morning was toast and marmite and a clementine and lunch is tuna pita bread, yoghurt, and apple and some vegetable crisps.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 25/01/2017 09:07

Morning all! I have now lost 6lbs by incorporating in 2 fast days (which I know is against the No S principle but I wasn't losing at all before) - I don't count calories, I just have one plate only. I had a fail yesterday because I really wanted something sweet after dinner (I blame AF), but, and it is a good but, I had two biscuits only and left the rest where they were AND the milk chocolate one was too sweet! The dark chocolate ginger was perfect. But blimmin heck, when I think that I used to consume at least 4 biscuits and probably more for an evening snack (sometimes DH and I would share a whole packet), I am quite pleased. My portion sizes are clearly becoming a bit more sensible. And my sweet tooth is less sweet - I had a couple of squares of Cadbury's Fruit and Nut at the weekend and it tasted sickly.

panicovernow · 25/01/2017 09:43

Morning Cheddar, I'm like you when it comes to sweet things I can't stop at a normal portion, and I still slip into that when I let myself have those things at the weekend. That's my next habit to break.
Lost 2lb this week so pleased with that. Had 2 good days so far this week. I seem to manage ok during the day it's the evenings when I really start to feel hungry/peckish and I want to start snacking. So instead I drink water and endless cups of tea. Then I'm up and down all night to the looHmm. Things are slowly moving in the right direction, and I love the simplicity of No S so I'm sticking with it. Just need to work on my tendency to overindulge at the weekend.

TheChampagneGalop · 25/01/2017 12:44

Same here panicovernow I know that the S days are there to make the diet sustainable. But it’s also easy overindulge.
”Oh it’s an S-day…I need to eat all this choc now or I’ll have to wait until next weekend” I notice I think like that now.

After learning about healthy waist size I don’t weigh myself, but measure my waist. This is a huge motivator since I’m definitely not close enough to a healthy size Sad and definitely don’t want heart disease, diabetes and cancer.

Things are going quite well so far this week. The Need Sugar-demon hasn’t been around that much but you never know when it’ll attack next…Grin

I’m oddly proud of us all on this thread for doing this Smile

chocoholic89 · 25/01/2017 12:48

OK today so far I had porridge with raisins plus mini orange and just had a brown bread chicken salad sandwich, apple, grapes. Won't be eating now till tea roughly 6. Which is pork and apple burger and oven chips no bun, is this OK? Or is everyone else eating really healthy teas as well?

TheChampagneGalop · 25/01/2017 12:57

You can eat what you want choco, although it's wise to choose meals that are hearty enough that you won't feel hungry again after a hour or so.

TheChampagneGalop · 25/01/2017 12:58

Your food sounds delicious!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 25/01/2017 13:33

I never breathe out when I measure my waist! I hold my tummy in as much as it will go! Is that not normal?

twofloorsup · 25/01/2017 15:03

With fruit I sometimes end up with a really late lunch so just have a slice of toast and a plate of fruit or I chop it into breakfast. I'm definitely eating less of it now I don't snack.
I'm still not weighing myself but I definitely feel healthier due to eating a lot less rubbish. I quite often don't fancy anything sweet on an S day now (still forcing myself due to fear of missing out) Smile

eltsihT · 25/01/2017 16:52

Choco, no s'ing is about changing how you think about food, eventually you stop wanting/needing the snacks. You also slowly reduce your portion size but nothing is really off limits in your main meals.

Dinner tonight is sausages mash and onion and mushroom gravy for me and carrots and mushrooms for the kids (who are going through a no sauce phase)

PosiePootlePerkins · 25/01/2017 17:16

Champagne I am proud of us all too! Am feeling unaccountably hungry starving today, I could eat a small horse right now, but it really helps knowing you are all out there in the real world somewhere, doing you best to stick to NoS.
Having said that, hurry up and cook tea! GrinWink
Cheddar I am pleased the fasting is working for you, although I genuinely don't know how you do it!
Chocoholic the fruit should technically fit on your plate because it helps you have a healthier plate than filling the space with something less healthy. Does that make sense? Have a look at the NoS website, loads of information on there.

Lessthanaballpark · 25/01/2017 17:40

People Shock I had a biscuit today Blush.

I felt a bit muffin-toppy after but that could have been psychological. After yesterday's malteser licking incident I'm afraid I might be falling ....

I need some stern words please Angry
