The No S Diet [title edited by MNHQ]

I've decided that I finally need to commit to losing my baby weight. I have 2 stone (ideally more to lose). But will just take it half a stone at a time. I am not really into crazy diets. So I've gone for the 's' diet which is basically eat sensibly diet! No snacks, seconds or 'sweets' (includes cakes etc ) except on days beginning with s (weekends and special days). So three meals a day basically. Does anyone want to join me or be my supporter? I lost 1.5 lb the first week, but then gained 0.3. Next weigh in is Monday and today I was 2.5lb lighter so I'm hoping I will have lost something. I am piling up a bit on the meals but figure that I need that to stick to it at the moment. Hopefully as I adjust I can make the meals smaller/healthier too. Looking forward to the weekend for a pudding and some wine!

Mimi typically I would have the porridge option for breakfast and then the bagel for lunch around 7 hours later. Bagel was breakfast today though.
I just think that's still massively overeating as I will also have a cooked dinner at about 7pm.

PosiePootlePerkins · 22/01/2017 15:32

Twofloorsup I agree with what mimiasovitch is saying. It takes time for your appetite to reduce. Here's a rough idea of what I eat on a normal NoS day
Breakfast - bowl of muesli, slice or two of toast and marmite
Lunch - sandwich, yoghurt, fruit
Dinner - spag bol, or jacket potato and sausages, cheese and beans, or chilli with rice etc
If I added up the calories it would probably seem a lot. But I am slowly losing weight. And more importantly for me, I am addressing my relationship with food.
I would say hang on in there, give it time, a good few months, before you give up on it.

twofloorsup · 22/01/2017 15:43

Thanks Posie. I've no intention of giving up as this is the most ordered my eating has ever been. I suppose I need to stop thinking in calories for now and carry on building the good habits.

PosiePootlePerkins · 22/01/2017 16:14

It is hard though isn't it, when you're so used to thinking with a diet mentality. I have now stopped mentally adding up what I eat as it seems to have no relation to weight loss or gain! But I did do it a lot in the early days. I suppose I have learnt to trust in the system.

twofloorsup · 22/01/2017 16:41

Yes 25 years of dieting is a lot to undo !
I have been really enjoying having room for three proper meals so I just need to stop pandering to my inner diet guru.

PosiePootlePerkins · 22/01/2017 17:22

You sound very similar to me, I am 42 now and been on and off diets most of my adult life. Yoyo-ing up and down but never managing to maintain a steady weight. Always searching for the next miracle diet to make me thin. So mentally exhausting! I almost feel that if I just stick to NoS and maintain, that would be preferable to the diet rollercoaster. And if I lose weight then so much the better. I suppose I could ideally do with shifting around 2 stone, and have lost around 9/10 lb so far I think (weigh in tomorrow), that's since October.
Anyway good luck with the coming week and here's to forming good habits! Smile

twofloorsup · 22/01/2017 18:26

Yes that's pretty much me !
I'm learning lots too like porridge keeps me full for hours and hours , cake and custard definitely doesn't. I'm currently willing my food to cook faster as I'm feeling very empty !

PosiePootlePerkins · 22/01/2017 18:51

I get very grumpy when I need to eat!! And I have had to break the bad habit of picking at food while I cook, as that is technically snacking. Enjoy your dinner! Smile

twofloorsup · 22/01/2017 19:25

That's quite a hard one to break isn't it !
It was lovely.
Probably twice the size it should have been but I was so hungry .

eltsihT · 22/01/2017 20:54

Been trying to stick to not having snacks since I got back from skiing and it's been a bit of a disaster of a week, I have just been feeling so hungry. I have even been avoiding coming on here as I am feeling guiltily about it.

Stood on the scales tonight and have put on 2lb. Up at 10st 3lb

I would really like to get to 9st 6 or slightly less and be maintaining it by May as I have a wedding and want wear a dress to - that I bought when I was at my ideal weight last year and it is really to tight otherwise.

This week I am planning on posting more often whether is good or bad. Hope that's ok, as I am hoping it will focus the mind.

PosiePootlePerkins · 22/01/2017 21:06

eltsihT definitely keep posting. Don't feel bad, you have faced up to it now and tomorrow is a fresh start. I was commenting on someone's thread on the NoS forum, about how tempting it is to disappear when you feel you've messed up, but actually when you face up to it then people reach out to offer support. I've felt that I've blown it a fair few times, but the difference is that doing NoS, you don't have to give up, you just get back on it.
So welcome back and good luck tomorrow! One day at a timeSmile

TheChampagneGalop · 22/01/2017 22:20

Your posts are so encouraging, Posie!

Last week there were days when I failed to eat the No S way, so this week I want to fully make it through the days until Saturday with no missteps!

Just wanted to write that down to motivate myself Grin

PosiePootlePerkins · 23/01/2017 07:54

Thanks champagneSmile**
I have lost a pound and a half, so that makes up for the half pound I put on last week!
Have a great week everyone.

Cakingbad · 23/01/2017 08:46

Well done Posie.
I totally agree that you should not give up if you fail one day. Just get back on track the next. It's taken me a month to stop my snacking habit but now it's become my new normal. Habits that have now gone include:
Eating ingredients wile cooking
Eating kids leftovers
Opening tins at work and fridge at home just to say hello to the available food
Crisps at the pub
Don't miss any of that and look forward to meals much more.
Have a good week everyone.

beela · 23/01/2017 11:37

I has a very snacky day yesterday - was at a kids party - but I am back on the case today.

I think this weekend just gone was better than the previous one though. I'm hoping that habits are starting to form.

It's really encouraging to read posts from people who have been doing this a bit longer, thank you!

Have a good week everyone Smile

twofloorsup · 23/01/2017 17:24

Opening tins at work and fridge at home just to say hello to the available food

This made me laugh so much Grin

eltsihT · 23/01/2017 20:20

Well had a good day so far. No snacks at all. Been trying to have a mug of fruit juice/hot water instead of a snack.

But I am very tempted at the moment to have another slice of pita bread.

Lessthanaballpark · 23/01/2017 20:24

I'm getting into the routine of it now but at the weekend I bought a pudding for the sake of it. It wasn't very nice but I carried on eating because I felt I should because I could.

So next weekend I'm going to make sure I have something delicious that's made from scratch and savour it properly.

AristonAndOn · 23/01/2017 21:48

It's lovely to hear everybody's stories. Knowing others are doing this also is very motivating! I'm doing well at the moment but struggling everyday will lightheadedness. I'm eating lots at meals.

Lessthanaballpark · 24/01/2017 17:01

Agggh today was tough. Especially because my colleague kept waving maltesers in front of my nose! I actually licked one then threw it away Blush

But I didn't eat it!

eltsihT · 24/01/2017 17:22

Well done for saying no! It's a good habit to get into. I have had a good day so far. But dh is away so I am eating with the kids so hopin I won't get increadibly hungry once they have gone to bed

twofloorsup · 24/01/2017 20:22

I've discovered that shredded wheat is just as filling as porridge if loaded with nuts seeds raisins and coconut.
That's good for me as it's quicker to prepare before work.
Still going strong, don't really consider snacking any more. I think keeping to 3 plates even on the weekend has really helped.

chocoholic89 · 24/01/2017 20:30
