The No S Diet [title edited by MNHQ]

I've decided that I finally need to commit to losing my baby weight. I have 2 stone (ideally more to lose). But will just take it half a stone at a time. I am not really into crazy diets. So I've gone for the 's' diet which is basically eat sensibly diet! No snacks, seconds or 'sweets' (includes cakes etc ) except on days beginning with s (weekends and special days). So three meals a day basically. Does anyone want to join me or be my supporter? I lost 1.5 lb the first week, but then gained 0.3. Next weigh in is Monday and today I was 2.5lb lighter so I'm hoping I will have lost something. I am piling up a bit on the meals but figure that I need that to stick to it at the moment. Hopefully as I adjust I can make the meals smaller/healthier too. Looking forward to the weekend for a pudding and some wine!

Also mimiasovitch remember that for some people it can take a long time to lose weight with NoS, it is a sloooow diet in terms of weight loss. I was having a little moan on my daily check in on the NoS thread about my weight loss slowing down over Christmas, and had advice from oolala a long term poster and N Ser. She told me it can take until March or even May to recover from the holidays excesses! Which was a practical reminder to just chill and take it slowly. I also have around 2 1/2 stone to lose in total and much as I would love it gone tomorrow, I know that's not the right answer for me.

twofloorsup · 18/01/2017 20:34

I don't know if I've lost weight or not but my jeans feel awful baggy. Id be surprised if I haven't lost anything as its such a drastic change to my eating habits.

AristonAndOn · 19/01/2017 22:34

I hope you have two. Is everyone looking forward to the weekend? Do you plan what S to have or just go with the flow?

HotSteppa · 20/01/2017 03:17

Small victories. My husband opened a chocolate father Christmas bought for the kids that's still hanging around. Did I have any? Not a bite. Have had some ups and downs on the scales and my period thrown in too but I think I have lost 2 lb over the last 10 days. While I would like it to be more , if it's sustainable then 1lb a week will make a big difference over a year say. Formal weigh in tomorrow morning. Just to let you know I'm quietly keeping on Smile

PosiePootlePerkins · 20/01/2017 07:18

Ariston I think the eventual aim is to have a planned S treat or two at the weekends, however it can take a long time for some people to reach that stage, myself included! I still tend to snack just because I can, but gradually over time this is improving.

Bestbees · 20/01/2017 07:20

Friday weigh in and up 1/2 a lb. However have been really good with no snacking so a non scale victory! Now thinking about slowly cutting down meal sizes, especially as i tend to rely on a glass of milk before exercise so need to retain some calories there!

Well done HotSteppa. Slow steady and sustainable is key.

Ariston i am away this weekend with family so mostly trying to avoid snacking to allow for the wine calories!

Twofloors great that you are seeing a difference.

Mimi sorry its being slow but hopefully by focusing on habits first and weight loss will follow!

beela · 20/01/2017 11:09

I've finally weighed myself! It wasn't as bad as I was fearing and now I have a baseline. I need to lose 2 stone, which was basically what I thought, and fair enough given recent eating habits.

I've been doing ok this week. Today I am working from home and dh is hone too as he's off sick. He is trying to gain weight Angry and keeps wandering round eating Mars bars etc. I've eaten 1 revel, which I think was very restrained under the circumstances Grin

It says on the website that you need to do this for 3 weeks for it to become a habit. I'm near the end of week 2 so I'm hoping it will be second nature by the end of next week.... and that is when I am going to start tackling my s-days. Until then I am not going to worry too much.

Cakingbad · 20/01/2017 11:11

Well done HotSteppa. I am going to plan to have one S day treat each day Ariston because I think it works better for me than a free for all. Bestbees, I don't think an occasional 1/2 lb gain matters. If you know you have good habits established a steady downward trend will hopefully be there even if you have a few blips along the way.

My non-snacking habit has been much better the last few days. I am used to the feeling of being properly hungry for meals now - which is obviously normal and even enjoyable. I am feeling very positive about this plan and looking forward to getting into my healthy weight range this time next year. I am not going to buy any new clothes this year as I have plenty and want to save up and treat myself next Jan - hopefully size 14 rather than 16.

I was going to weigh only at the end of the month but me and a friend have decided to have a weekly weigh in together to introduce a bit of competition. I will post it here as well as a bit of extra accountability. Enjoy your weekend everyone. Hope we can all enjoy a treat but not go mad!

It has taken my three weeks to get the no-snacking habit established so I will regard yesterday's weight as my starting weight. My weight on 19.1.17 was 74.7kg.

beela · 20/01/2017 11:42

It is quite nice being properly hungry when you eat, I agree caking

twofloorsup · 20/01/2017 15:04

I'm three weeks in tomorrow and am actually really surprised that I've managed to kick a lifetime pudding habit in such a short space of time.
I even carefully plan my S day treat as I'm very cautious about going back to a binge style way of eating.
This is the first plan I've found manageable for me and I also love the feeling of proper hunger now I've allowed myself to experience it !

HotSteppa · 20/01/2017 21:51

So have decided to trade my Sunday S day for a Friday, acceptable or slippery slope? I was on it all day in clouding an afternoon in a cafe where I would usually have cake but have a terrible sore throat so have had ice cream and a few medicinal hot toddys. Maybe wine to Confused what is the deal with alcohol BTW?

Oh dear the wine is starting to show! Double post and accidental cake emoji !

AristonAndOn · 20/01/2017 22:04

Ha ha Hot, I'm having a sneaky glass or two! Two, I'm the same about S days, thinking I need to plan them as not quite trusting I won't go back to overeating. I am also amazed how well I am doing, I'm quite proud of myself 😊

PosiePootlePerkins · 20/01/2017 22:08

I am fairly sure you can have a glass or two of wine. I try not to in the week although I have just had a glass this evening, to celebrate it being Friday! I usually stop at one glass, its just empty calories really, but also enjoyable!

PosiePootlePerkins · 20/01/2017 22:09

Ariston I am proud of you too! I know you had concerns about starting NoS but it seems that you've come a long way in a short space of time! I am very pleased for youSmile

AristonAndOn · 20/01/2017 23:08

Thanks Posie 😊😊 the thing is as a extreme yoyo dieter I have been on a high doing well at diets before, but for me they aren't sustainable, I'm really hoping this will be. Less obsessing is a relief, less worrying about what to cook. It's a bit of a revelation. I know I will fall off the wagon at some point, like I have before. I just hope I can get back on it. There is great support here, thanks everyone 😀

OohNoDooEy · 20/01/2017 23:15

Hi! I started on Monday and am very proud of myself for sticking to it all week. I am looking forward to something sweet tomorrow though!

I lost 4lbs this week. Another 8 to a healthy bmi then I'll see. I mainly want to stop the constant snacking on sweets!

PosiePootlePerkins · 21/01/2017 07:15

Ariston I totally get where you're coming from. I have lost and gained weight so many times and it is just mentally exhausting. Feeling great because you're being so 'good' on a diet, and losing weight, then realising its not sustainable and feeling awful about yourself because you've failed at yet another diet. Then returning to all of your old bad habits and piling all the weight back on again. Then desperately searching for the next miracle diet that will solve all of your problems. Well that's how its been for me anyway!
That's the great thing about NoS, there's no failing, if you get it wrong one day you just start again the next day. I am very boring with my repeated mantra of 'mark it and move on' but it is the most helpful thing for me to hold in my head! And it is so much easier to do it right because of the lack of rules and the freedom about what you can eat.
Well done to all of you who are doing their very best to commit to NoS. I hope you all have a great weekend. I am aiming for my S treats to be moderate, we shall see! Smile

Cakingbad · 21/01/2017 07:42

Well done OohNo.

twofloorsup · 21/01/2017 09:30

I have woken up late and am not hungry for breakfast so I think dinner will be very late today or just a plate of something S after a late lunch. Ariston

I think we are at the same stage in all this as I'm feeling pretty much like you said. It's a very liberating feeling Smile

twofloorsup · 22/01/2017 08:39

Morning all hope you're all having a great weekend .
I've just had a bit of a shock.
I worked out my calories for my bagel yogurt and an apple today and it came to 735 !
I then worked out that my porridge with nuts seeds and sultanas that keeps me going til 3/4pm is actually 885 calories Shock
If that's my breakfast and lunch for one day I don't really have any calories left to eat dinner and lose weight. I can't have lunch til 2:30-3/00 earliest most days so I need something that will keep me full.
Starting to wonder if this is the right way at all Confused

beela · 22/01/2017 09:05

My plan is to get used to the not snacking etc and once I'm in the habit of 3 meals a day then tackle what is in the three meals (tho I am trying to eat healthily). I'm viewing it as a long term change rather than a quick fix.

I cheated a little bit on Friday but when I thought about the calories I was also shocked. I had 1 revel, a spoonful of dh's dessert in a restaurant, and a slice of cheese when I was making cheese on toast for ds, but that must have totalled at least 100 calories (?). It made me realise how quickly they add up, and how many I must absent mindedly get through.

twofloorsup · 22/01/2017 09:14

That was my plan too but at the moment I can't imagine being able to survive on any less !
I'm a little freaked out to be honest.

mimiasovitch · 22/01/2017 12:44

Twofloors - are they breakfast choices, or breakfast and lunch? If just breakfast, and you're having lunch late, they should be ok, as long as lunch is relatively small. You're not looking to create a massive calorie deficit remember, as that way deprivation and misery lies. You're looking for a smaller deficit that means you can maintain this way of eating comfortably long term. Gradually (I expect - I'm not there yet), we'll get used to the not snacking and be able to reduce our portion sizes too. Trying to do it all at once is what creates yoyo dieting problems.
