The No S Diet [title edited by MNHQ]

I've decided that I finally need to commit to losing my baby weight. I have 2 stone (ideally more to lose). But will just take it half a stone at a time. I am not really into crazy diets. So I've gone for the 's' diet which is basically eat sensibly diet! No snacks, seconds or 'sweets' (includes cakes etc ) except on days beginning with s (weekends and special days). So three meals a day basically. Does anyone want to join me or be my supporter? I lost 1.5 lb the first week, but then gained 0.3. Next weigh in is Monday and today I was 2.5lb lighter so I'm hoping I will have lost something. I am piling up a bit on the meals but figure that I need that to stick to it at the moment. Hopefully as I adjust I can make the meals smaller/healthier too. Looking forward to the weekend for a pudding and some wine!

Yes I'm sure you can have crisps as long as they are part of your plate. I think caking means the crisps are as a snack.

twofloorsup · 14/01/2017 09:53

Ah ok thanks.
I'm trying not to snack on S days but am having a banana smoothie shortly as my son is taking me out for lunch but I'm hungry now. Don't want to spoil my appetite too much.

AristonAndOn · 14/01/2017 09:59

Enjoy the smoothie. Smile I am personally more nervous about S days and not going to mad on them and then struggling on a Monday to get back to only 3 plates. A smoothie sounds a healthful 's' option. Might try that myself. 😀

Lessthanaballpark · 14/01/2017 10:06

TooExtra. I've swapped to Friday and Saturday and last week it went well.

Last Sunday I jumped back on the healthy wagon and going for a long walk then a bowl of soup.

It made Mondays at work easier because I was already back "in the mode" and not hit by the double whammy of going back to work and the prospect of no sugar.

beela · 14/01/2017 10:44

Just taken ds for a slightly traumatic swimming lesson (he was in a new group and nervous, and cold cos they kept having to get out of the water Sad ) so went to a cafe. He chose some rainbow cake so I shared it with him - so nice! But I don't feel too guilty as I my first 5 n-days with only a couple of slip ups.... much better than I thought I would do.

So here's a question for you all. I don't have any scales and don't know exactly how much I weigh. Do I get some to track my progress, and risk getting obsessed, or do I use my clothes as a measure to whether I am losing weight or not? What do you think?

twofloorsup · 14/01/2017 10:58

I'm very conscious of going mad too so I'm sticking to the three plates as much as possible, adding some sugary treats to one or two of them if I fancy it. I didn't last Sunday so it was an N day.
I don't weigh myself but my clothes don't feel any different two weeks in. Probably due to the size of my 3 plates !

panicovernow · 14/01/2017 14:25

beela I'm always obsessed with scales and it can impact how good/bad I am that day. my aim is to weigh once a week but I still get on every morning. I believe I'd benefit if I could stop weighing so much as this diet is a slow process, and I don't want to feel deflated each morning. Actually after writing this, I realise I need to put them away! I also took my measurements when I started last week and intend to remeasure monthly. That will hopefully be encouraging and motivate me to carry onGrin

PosiePootlePerkins · 14/01/2017 16:36

Regarding weighing. I posted about this on the NoS forum. I was advised that weighing daily can be a positive if you are able to see it as a measure of how your weight fluctuates, and to track the overall trend of your weight loss/gains. I was getting a bit stressed as I felt I shouldn't be weighing daily, but in fact I do step on every day and am managing to use it to help keep perspective. This is a first for me, to weigh and not let my food intake be affected by it.
I think because NoS is such a straightforward diet with so few decisions to actually make, I can just plod on.
I do make a note of my weight on a Monday morning and use this to see if I have lost/gained/maintained.
I don't know if that makes sense but its helped me!

Cakingbad · 14/01/2017 16:52

I weighed myself two weeks ago when I started and I'm going to weigh myself at the end of the month. I don't want to weigh too much but your method sounds sensible too Posie. At the moment I'm just trying to get my snacking habit sorted so don't really mind if I don't lose the first month. I do aim to lose the second month though. I have a stone to lose but every half pound down will make me happy.

beela · 14/01/2017 17:35

Our GPs has a weight / blood pressure room where you can go and take your measurements. Perhaps I should just aim to pop in there every couple of weeks.

twofloorsup · 15/01/2017 08:36

Morning all. Yet again I didn't really enjoy my sweet treat. I had syrup sponge and custard. I didn't feel particularly great afterwards.
Going to try some chocolate today and see how that goes down.
It really feels like my sweet tooth is off on its holidays.
Hope you all have a good day today.

PosiePootlePerkins · 15/01/2017 08:52

I had a very nice evening out with friends yesterday but definitely over indulged big time. 3 courses and rather too much alcohol! I suspect it will reflect on the scales on Monday morning, but I will try and have a sensible day today. Have just had two slices of brown toast and marmite and will try and have a sensible lunch and dinner. Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

AristonAndOn · 15/01/2017 09:29

Two, it's a shame you didn't enjoy your sweet treat. I haven't managed to eat anything sweet yet, I feel like I'm messing up the diet, despite this diet allowing it. I'm. I'm not finding it easy to get out of the old diet mindset. It is hard to eat those things guilt free, do you think something similar is happening to you?

twofloorsup · 15/01/2017 09:44

No I don't think guilt is a factor for me. I think it's more to do with years of eating that sort of thing all day every day and now I've had a taste of 3 "proper" meals a day and I am starting to prefer it.
Has anyone read the 1970s thread on here ? Overwhelming majority say that 3 meals and no snacks were a factor in everyone being slim. Makes sense !

beela · 15/01/2017 12:39

I totally feel like this is how I used to eat as a child growing up in the 80s/90s. Maybe that's why it sort of feels normal even after just a week.

AristonAndOn · 15/01/2017 14:45

Well that is a good thing! I have had this conversation with my Mum last week saying I don't remember eating snacks when I was a child and she said we didn't. I first remember it eating cereal after school as a teenager.

twofloorsup · 15/01/2017 15:48

I used to sneak cereal in a coffee mug as we definitely weren't allowed to snack Grin

Cakingbad · 15/01/2017 17:56

I just had peanut butter on toast with a mug of tea as my Sunday S. Very nice it was too. Seem to be getting the hang of this now.

twofloorsup · 15/01/2017 18:00

Yum. I've not had my S yet but I have some chocolate given to me at work so I may have those later.

Bestbees · 15/01/2017 19:59

Sounds like lots of good sensible progress here ladies well done!

I had a very boozy night on Friday but stuck to only 3 meals by having late breakfast then snack at 4 and dinner at9. Refused birthday cake! Yesterday was bit unrestrained/hangover survival. Today had an apple as a snack bit other than that on it. Fingers crossed for another good week!

Nan0second · 15/01/2017 21:11

Heavy s day today as succumbed to 3am toast after 2 hours emergency operating and then had posh restaurant meal with pudding for my mum's birthday.
I'm really hoping I'll have lost a lb this week...

Cakingbad · 16/01/2017 07:15

2 hours emergency operating in the middle of the night is definitely worthy of toast. Hope you have lost your pound.

AristonAndOn · 16/01/2017 07:43

Made a mistake of mentioning I was trying a new diet and also what I had cooked as my dd said it was delicious! Got raised eyebrows and a comment that I can't have started a diet and eat 'that'. Apart from my Mum and husband, I told myself not to talk about my diet as it opens me up to comments. People often have a lot to say, especially to me as a yoyo dieter. Anyway, good luck everyone have a great week 😀👏🏼👏🏼

beela · 16/01/2017 12:45

I agree ariston, I haven't even told dh!

Cakingbad · 16/01/2017 14:57

I have told DH and he is sceptical. Which is good, because it makes me more determined to make it work.
