The No S Diet [title edited by MNHQ]

I've decided that I finally need to commit to losing my baby weight. I have 2 stone (ideally more to lose). But will just take it half a stone at a time. I am not really into crazy diets. So I've gone for the 's' diet which is basically eat sensibly diet! No snacks, seconds or 'sweets' (includes cakes etc ) except on days beginning with s (weekends and special days). So three meals a day basically. Does anyone want to join me or be my supporter? I lost 1.5 lb the first week, but then gained 0.3. Next weigh in is Monday and today I was 2.5lb lighter so I'm hoping I will have lost something. I am piling up a bit on the meals but figure that I need that to stick to it at the moment. Hopefully as I adjust I can make the meals smaller/healthier too. Looking forward to the weekend for a pudding and some wine!

Well done everyone! Panic - it sounds like you are making progress! If you keep at it, it will all add up. I don't think a fairy cake will make much difference!

I had a very indulgent weekend - the in-laws were here, so lots of treats. For this reason, I am going to wait until the coming Friday to weigh myself - otherwise I will get discouraged.

I went back on to no s today and haven't found it too bad so far. 5.5 hours is the gap I'm leaving between breakfast/lunch/dinner - I am acknowledging to myself that I will get hungry at about 3.5-4 hours and that I can manage for the remaining time. I have tried the 5:2 diet in the past, and being hungry for a whole day was unbearable - compared to that, this is much more manageable. I may be feeling differently by the end of the week, though!

twofloorsup · 09/01/2017 16:35

Hi everyone glad to hear you're all still going at it Smile
Yes sweet tooth is definitely subsiding but I think that had a lot to do with the fact that only eating three times a day is a massive shock to my system so I want to make it as tasty as possible !
Didn't have an S day yesterday as I didn't fancy it.

Lessthanaballpark · 09/01/2017 20:44

Yay I survived first day back at work with all the cheap chocolate and crisps!

Agreed Glums 5:2 is too hard. And it just made me give up the whole thing. Sad

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 09/01/2017 21:00

Well done everyone getting back on the case today after wild weekends. I went a bit crazy on Sunday afternoon - I wish I could just have one or two special treats on an S day but I am not there yet. I look at the positives though - I generally can stick to the N day rules and crazy S day binges remind me of what I would probably be doing daily if I was not on the diet and why I should keep going with it.

Lessthanaballpark · 09/01/2017 21:47

Serenade I reckon as long as you're sticking to the N days you're doing really well because you're setting up a habit.

Scaling back on the S day binges can come later. Wink

Bestbees · 10/01/2017 07:02

Not a great few days from me and weight up and down. However takin it as bang on 10 which is fine as it is a 1lb loss and slow and steady etc. I need just to refocus myself. You all seem to be making good progress well done! Must remember to check in each day to keep me on track!

AristonAndOn · 10/01/2017 20:58

Just checking in. Still hungry, but still sticking with it. Determined to make this be my last 'yo'

Bestbees · 10/01/2017 21:37

How is everyone doing?

Much better day here. Porridge with nuts and dates and a spinach, Apple and ginger smoothie. Lunch ham salad and dinner turkey chili and jacket potato. 50 lengths at the pool. Fingers crossed for another good day tomorrow. One day at a time!

twofloorsup · 10/01/2017 22:22

Hello again
Porridge dates and banana
Chicken stew and dumplings
Toast peanut butter, avocado, poached eggs and mushrooms.

Watching sugar free farm with interest and for new recipe ideas !

PosiePootlePerkins · 10/01/2017 22:24

Hi! Sounds like we're all getting on OK. I have had a good couple of days, all gone to plan and am feeling calm around food. One thing I do need to do if possible is to eat my dinner around 5.30/6pm, any later and I start to feel very grumpy! Once I've had dinner I am able to tell myself that's my eating done for the day. Which is quite strange coming from one who has always claimed she just had to have pudding after dinner!

twofloorsup · 10/01/2017 22:52

Posie I find myself trying to wait til 7pm for dinner or I feel like I'm missing out on something (pudding) !
Feel like I'm starving from 5:30 onwards though.

AristonAndOn · 11/01/2017 10:44

Finished my first week and it's a 7lb loss!! So pleased. Feel better mentally the most.

TheChampagneGalop · 11/01/2017 11:01

I solve the dinner - bed time period gap by drinking a glass of milk as recommended on the No s website. It has worked so far.

It's going well but I'm struggling emotionally now that I can't comfort myself by snacking and bingeing. Does anyone else feel extra tired? Maybe it's because it's in the middle of winter, but I'm wondering if it's the sudden change in eating as well.

PosiePootlePerkins · 11/01/2017 15:56

twofloorsup You are stronger than me, waiting for dinnerSmile
Ariston Yay!GrinGrinGrinStarStarStarHaloHaloHalo Well done you that's fantastic.
Champagne I definitely had that emotional slump at the beginning, I do think cutting out the sugar in the week is tough at first and takes a while to adapt. Also I have had those feelings of 'what can I use to cheer myself up now that I don't have food?' If you can hang on in there I am sure it will pass.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 11/01/2017 16:47

7lb!!! Wow, Ariston! That's amazing. Are you doing basic No S or have you added in any extra bits? I'm doing two one-plate days (my version of 5:2 plus No S) and I've only lost 2lbs!

TheChampagneGalop · 11/01/2017 17:12

How long did it take for you to adapt Posie?
Couldn't handle it today and had a chocolate bar....Sad

Wow Ariston 7 lb in only one week?!

PosiePootlePerkins · 11/01/2017 17:27

Champagne I would say around 3-4 weeks, definitely after a month I felt in the swing of things and started to find sweet things very sweet when I ate them at the weekends.

beela · 11/01/2017 18:05

Hello, can I join you?

I've been doing this since Monday (3 whole days!).

I've got baby weight to lose but don't actually own any scales so I don't know how much head in the sand probably a stone or two.

AristonAndOn · 11/01/2017 18:15

Thanks for the thanks. Yes 7lbs in a wk. I have eaten 3 very large plates a day, but have kept to the rules. The big weight loss has been because I have binge eating disorder and was eating far too much every day and I am very overweight. Even with my massive plates it's been less calories. My reason for picking this diet is to teach me moderation and a framework for a sustainable diet. I'll have to scale back my plates at some point, but I'm still hungry at the moment. I'm so pleased to have found this. 😁

PosiePootlePerkins · 11/01/2017 19:25

Welcome beela and good luck with the rest of the week! 2 more days and then treatsGrin
Ariston without wishing to sound patronising, and obviously without actually knowing you (!) I just wanted to say that I think its awesome you've stuck to NoS so well and have made such a great start. You will be needing big plates until your appetite adjusts, and this will happen gradually over time. I'm so pleased it is working for you. One day at a time, one plate at a time!

twofloorsup · 11/01/2017 21:07

Ariston I think you and I are the same person Grin
Except I don't think I've lost any weight but I'm not worrying about that for now.
Just getting to grips with only eating 3 times a day first.

HotSteppa · 11/01/2017 21:11

Hiya all, can I join in? It's great to see lots of you have found this sustainable and are getting good results. I have been no s-ing since Monday and I know it's early days but it feels like a bit of a revelation. I know some of you have been on it for a while. Are you finding it's a slow and steady loss? I have alot to loose, about 4 or 5 st. More to be on the "healthy" bmi range. I have had good results doing S.World before but reckon this might tackle some of my over eating problems (seconds - thirds anyone?) and the mindless eating I do all day long (snacks) sugar isn't so huge for me. I love cake and biscuits obvs but I can deal with looking forward to the weekend for now. Seconds and snacking are the biggies for me I reckon.

Just wanted to ask what kind do of meals you are all eating? Im Using some Slimming World principles, lean meat, third of the plate green vegetables but using bit of butter in cooking and tonight for example had cauliflower cheese. What do you reckon? It's 3 square meals as I understand it not 3 typical diet meals or am I fooling myself?

Bestbees · 11/01/2017 21:30

Congrats Ariston! Great work. But even better the attitude shift than the weight loss.

Welcome HotSteppa and Two floors. Definitely best to focus on habits rather than weightloss at first. I like to think of it as reserve of an ordinary diet at you a most start with maintainace which actually the hardest bit!

I think whether it is slow depends on lots of factors. However I think that if u have a lot to loose and you do a lot of snacking you will be pleasantly surprised. I do not have a lot to lose about 6lb and loose a about 1lb a week. Try to focus on the positive healthy mindset rather Than scales at first.

In relation to what food I basically eat whatever I want. I do like healthy food but if I want chips I have them just as part of a meal. I also think that as time goes on and it is your only meal and so you want what is worth eating.

So today I had fruit and nut porridge and spinach and apple smoothie. Lunch massive ham salad with piccalilli. Dinner cheese omlette with butternut squash salad and bread. But I have managed weight loss on days with fish and chips or pizza or curries.

Bestbees · 11/01/2017 21:33

Oh and HotSteppa I recommend eating more at a meal than I might typically on a diet. I am now usually starving at meal times and eat till totally full so that manage no snacking. I eat 6.45am 1.30pm and 7.30pm so need big meals! You can start to decrease them as you get used to the habit of no s or if weight Plateaus. You might find you naturally eat less as time goes on.

AristonAndOn · 11/01/2017 21:36

Hi Two!!! Yes it's been like a revelation seeing people writing things I can completely relate to and a relief it's not just me. 😳 I'm hoping so much that this can be for life this time.
Two, your post I can relate to also. I have been successful (not permanently though) with slimming world and think their principles for a healthy plate are a good idea. Not so much with the syns which reinforce the good and bad good foods in my brain which doesn't help the binges.
There is fab support on here!!! SmileSmile
