The No S Diet [title edited by MNHQ]

I've decided that I finally need to commit to losing my baby weight. I have 2 stone (ideally more to lose). But will just take it half a stone at a time. I am not really into crazy diets. So I've gone for the 's' diet which is basically eat sensibly diet! No snacks, seconds or 'sweets' (includes cakes etc ) except on days beginning with s (weekends and special days). So three meals a day basically. Does anyone want to join me or be my supporter? I lost 1.5 lb the first week, but then gained 0.3. Next weigh in is Monday and today I was 2.5lb lighter so I'm hoping I will have lost something. I am piling up a bit on the meals but figure that I need that to stick to it at the moment. Hopefully as I adjust I can make the meals smaller/healthier too. Looking forward to the weekend for a pudding and some wine!

Hello I've decided to give this a bash...I suffer from binge eating disorder and find diets a trigger after years of disordered eating, however I need to control it. This seems like a sensible plan. I hope this works 😐

PosiePootlePerkins · 02/01/2017 20:02

Welcome AristonSmile** Have a look at the NoS forum here everydaysystems.com/bb/ I believe that there are some posters on there who struggle with binge eating. Good luck.

LumelaMme · 02/01/2017 20:09

I'm starting on Thursday when the kids are back at school and when there will be less tempting stuff lying about in the kitchen...

AristonAndOn · 02/01/2017 20:10

Thank you Posie I will take a look.

Cakingbad · 03/01/2017 12:49

Well I have done one and a half days of this No S thing and so far so good. Caught myself eating dd's leftover toast just in time this morning. Took it out of my mouth and chucked it in the bin.

Do you think it's better to weigh weekly or monthly to see if there's any progress?

GlumsTheWord · 03/01/2017 14:27

Hi - I'd like to join! I have put on half a stone and was already feeling a bit tubby to begin with so really need to do something. I'm feeling a bit of trepidation though, as I do get ferociously hungry. I have worked out that I usually have five hours between breakfast lunch and dinner and I always get hungry at the 3 hour mark. It is getting through those final two hours that's tricky. For some reason, I am less concerned about snacking after dinner and have fairly good willpower in that area.

So I have started today. I am going to weigh myself every Friday - before the indulgences of the weekend Grin.

PosiePootlePerkins · 03/01/2017 14:33

Caking well done for a good start! And for throwing the toast in the bin, not easy! Regarding weighing, I actually weigh every day, which seems very diety, but actually I was encouraged on the NoS forum to see it as a positive. I can see my normal fluctuations without panicking, and then I take note of the number on a Monday morning to see if I've lost anything. Giving myself permission to weigh daily without becoming obsessed with the numbers has been a really helpful step for me. Might not suit you of course, but don't be afraid to weigh.
Glum welcome. You will gradually adjust to the hunger, a glass of milk is allowed between meals and can help to take the edge off. Feeling hungry used to be something I almost feared but now it is fine. I know I will eat a full meal soon and that keeps me going.
Good luck!
Lumela good luck for Thursday , you'll only have to get through 2 N days before the weekend, sounds like a good plan!Smile

Bestbees · 03/01/2017 14:34

Nice to see a few newbies, welcome.

I think one of the key things for this approach is to remember that you are planning to eat like this for the rest of your life and then being kind to yourself.

Somebody was asking about the portions. To be honest I eat big meals and sometimes dessert of plain Greek yog and fruit when starting off as I think the first stage is the idea of eating in a small time frame and no snacking. Then when weight plateaus you can tweak a bit more like readjust carb protein ratio or one less spoonful etc. It's all about slow and steady to a lifetime goal and being kind to yourself helps.

Glum try eating massive meals! It seems counter intuitive but I was losing weight whilst eating something like bircher and two piece of toast with nut butter for breakfast, lunch of soup bread and butter with cheese ad fruit then normal dinner like pasta or pizza or fajitas. And I don't have lots to loose only 7lb. I think honesty getting the habit is key.

Good luck!

AristonAndOn · 03/01/2017 14:59

Definately think this is the way to go for me, it's making me feel nervous though. I know it will be hard as I eat for non hunger reasons. I just need to get on with it!

GlumsTheWord · 03/01/2017 16:36

Thanks posie and best for the good advice! It makes sense to eat larger meals to start with.

I had two pieces of toast and honey for breakfast with an apple and then lunch was chicken soup with two pieces of toast and a satsuma. Far too much toast Blush but it hasn't been too bad so far - probably because we got up later as the dc are still on holiday, so the gap was shorter than usual between breakfast and lunch. I think I am going to start having jacket potatoes for lunch every now and again as they are filling and satisfying. I bought some blueberries today and am planning on having blueberry porridge tomorrow morning. I think planning in advance is going to be key!

PosiePootlePerkins · 03/01/2017 18:49

Ariston good luck. You only have to make it to the weekend. If that's too much you could always stagger it. Do 2 NoS days the first week or two, then build it up slowly. Do whatever works for you, it will still be an improvement and you'll still be making progress. 2 days of ordered eating is better than none and you will begin to prove to yourself that you are capable of it. Let us know how you get on,

AristonAndOn · 03/01/2017 19:30

Thank you Posie. I've always had an all or nothing mentality which has made me yoyo. This will be a challenge but a healthy one.

GreyandGrumpy48 · 03/01/2017 20:05

I'm finding it easier to resist snacking by telling myself I can have anything I like for meals. By the time meal time comes round the urge to eat everything has reduced and I eat relatively sensibly. Hoping that gradually the urge to eat for non hunger reasons will reduce

Bestbees · 03/01/2017 20:28

Grey I find the same. Much better than diets that restrict food types for me!

twofloorsup · 03/01/2017 20:32

Hi all. I'm struggling this evening I have gone to bed hungry which is never good.
Hoping it's just my body adjusting as I usually snack all evening so it is a big change.

AristonAndOn · 03/01/2017 20:41

Ok... I have been putting off controlling my eating for ages, waiting for that big click inside of me to decide to eat healthily. So, it hasn't come in a year, so I'm going to stop waiting and just try this way, for the first time tomorrow. There are no good/bad foods so perhaps the pressure of the big healthy eating effort will be reduced...reading everyone's stories is giving me some inspiration thank you. I've just been here so many times, psyching myself up, losing stones of weight then having 1 bad day and it going back on and more. I want this to be for life this time. I'm so mentally foggy and worn out by it all. I'm sorry for the rambling. I need this to work 😞

PosiePootlePerkins · 03/01/2017 20:55

Ariston I truly believe NoS will help you. Not as a quick fix but as a gradual change over time. As something you can follow forever. I don't have a history of binge eating but I do have years of yoyo dieting behind me, of feeling like a failure because once again I couldn't stick to another diet and have put all of the weight back on and more, of desperately searching for the next diet to 'fix' me.
I have never known such a relief, such a sense of yes, I can do this today and tomorrow and the next day. NoS is sanity for me.
Take it a day at a time, just try it and see how you go, there's support here if you need it. You are stronger than you think. The willpower required on all those diets in the past will help you stay strong through the week and once you reach the weekend you can have a break.
One last thing I would say, NoS is the most forgiving diet I have followed. If it goes wrong one day, you just mark it and move on. If you want to you can join the January challenge on the NoS forum. You just mark each day as it happens. Have a look through some of the December challenges, you will see many people including me slipping up, and just plodding on with it. My user name on there is Bluebell.
Sorry I didn't mean that to be an essay or to preach at you! I just feel this could help you. Good luck.Smile

PosiePootlePerkins · 03/01/2017 20:59

twofloors not being funny but did you eat enough today? As bestbees says make sure your plates are full! Mine definitely are! Over time you'll naturally need less to satisfy you. Grey yes, very good advice. I like thinking about my next meal! I haven't lost my love of food by any means, I'm just learning how to control it.

AristonAndOn · 03/01/2017 21:05

Thank you Posie for making me feel welcomed. I will try on the forum. I'm nervous!

PosiePootlePerkins · 03/01/2017 21:06

Don't be! You'll be awesome. Go for it.

AristonAndOn · 03/01/2017 21:12

I've signed up! 😬

PosiePootlePerkins · 03/01/2017 21:15

Yay! SmileSmileSmile

PosiePootlePerkins · 03/01/2017 21:18

Found you on there and have replied!

Cakingbad · 03/01/2017 21:19

In bed early at the end of my second day. I'm feeling a bit emptier than usual which is a good sign I guess. I had three big plates so that shows how much I usually snack.
Do hope this is the solution for me.
I like this thread. It's friendly.

PosiePootlePerkins · 03/01/2017 21:21

See how rubbish I was towards the end of December! Everyone is so supportive on there. Sometimes people reply in the middle of the night because a lot of them are in the USA. Look out for oolala, her posts are usually very insightful, she's been doing it for 7 years and said it took 2 years just to get her S days under control.
