The No S Diet [title edited by MNHQ]

I've decided that I finally need to commit to losing my baby weight. I have 2 stone (ideally more to lose). But will just take it half a stone at a time. I am not really into crazy diets. So I've gone for the 's' diet which is basically eat sensibly diet! No snacks, seconds or 'sweets' (includes cakes etc ) except on days beginning with s (weekends and special days). So three meals a day basically. Does anyone want to join me or be my supporter? I lost 1.5 lb the first week, but then gained 0.3. Next weigh in is Monday and today I was 2.5lb lighter so I'm hoping I will have lost something. I am piling up a bit on the meals but figure that I need that to stick to it at the moment. Hopefully as I adjust I can make the meals smaller/healthier too. Looking forward to the weekend for a pudding and some wine!

Well done caking! Smile

twofloorsup · 03/01/2017 22:14

Posie I've had 3 good hefty plates of food today so no idea why my stomach is rumbling and I can't sleep. I'm going to give it half an hour an if I can't sleep I'll have a mug of hot milk.

PosiePootlePerkins · 03/01/2017 22:16

Ah maybe its just the adjustment then, how annoying. Warm milk definitely a good idea.

twofloorsup · 03/01/2017 22:18

Posie And thanks for your help I have yoyo dieted all my adult life so this feels very doable for me (apart from right at this moment) Smile

PosiePootlePerkins · 03/01/2017 22:25

Hang on in there, I'm a former yoyo dieter too, I'm 42 now and just so relieved to have found some sanity around food! It does get easier as you go I promise! Its not a quick fix but I do believe in it as a long term solution.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 03/01/2017 22:53

Hi all, happy new year! Starting back at this tomorrow after eating all the mince pies. Oh dear, I am not looking forward to the scales in the morning! I am including fasting due to 8 weeks of No S resulting in zero weight loss before Christmas - I think I'm too small and too sedentary to get away with vanilla No S. But not tomorrow!

PosiePootlePerkins · 04/01/2017 07:10

Hi cheddar nice to hear from you! Hope you had a lovely Christmas. Good luck getting back on it.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 04/01/2017 08:23

Hello there - I have been on and off No S since November 2014 but on this time since 1st October. I love the sanity and flexibility to eat good healthy food or convenient food if necessary. I was down 13 lb before Christmas and have gained some back with some extra non weekend S days but have felt in control all through Christmas and confident going into 2017. I had become a yoyo dieter and I really hope I can stick to this now - it does get easier and it doesn't get boring! I find I think out it less and less except on S days when I can go a bit mad....

Lovely that there is a good following here - good luck to everyone!

mimiasovitch · 04/01/2017 10:47

Good morning all. To those just starting, asa veteran of, oh, 3 weeks (Grin) I would like to say it really does get easier. Ok, so I want a mince pies and I have to wait until Saturday, but the fact that there is no fannying around carbs/calories/fat etc means that each meal can be exactly what you really want to eat. It's so much more natural, and hopefully easier to maintain. My first day back on after Christmas was a bit of a shock, but I've successfully managed this week, despite there being a pot of truffles, a pack of wine gums and a bowl of chocolate coins on my coffee table.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 04/01/2017 11:10

Oh gosh, weigh-in this morning was not good! I've put on 5lbs with utterly unrestrained eating and drinking for the last 3 weeks. Back on it today, and back at work too. I did spend yesterday making serious attempts to eat all the chocolate in the house, so being up is not at all a surprise!

B: Porridge
L: Ham and tomato sandwich
D: Chicken fajitas

I'm going to go home early and Shred before picking the kids up. I was supposed to do it this morning but my brain could not compute that the alarm going off meant I had to actually get up.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 04/01/2017 14:08

Friend arrived at my desk, took me to Nando's and ordered for me. It all fit on a plate! Just. I'm not sure about the cloudy lemonade, though - I think that was sugary. So fail. But I haven't seen her in months because she's been on mat leave and I felt guilty about forgetting to invite her to the Christmas do.

panicovernow · 04/01/2017 15:07

Day 1 completed successfully yesterday! So far today has been ok. I'm not necessarily choosing the healthiest of meals. Both yesterday and today I've had white crusty bread with soup at lunch. think I'll need to improve those choices. I've joined the NoS forum to get more ideas and joined the January challenge there. I've still got a few sweet treats in the freezer not used at Christmas, it's good to know I can still have some at the weekendCakeSmile

twofloorsup · 04/01/2017 16:16

I piled my two plates sky high today and am going to try and have my dinner a bit later tonight so I'm not laying in bed hungry.
I'm 41 and have yoyo dieted so long. My last attempt was intuitive eating but I struggled with leaving food on my plate !

PosiePootlePerkins · 04/01/2017 17:03

Hi Serenade lovely to have you on board and great to hear that NoS has worked for you in the past.
Mimiasovitch well done managing to avoid temptation at work. Our staffroom is similar. Loads of chocs and biscuits up there. I just tell myself 'I don't eat these in the week' not always easy though!
Cheddar sonds like you coped well with an unexpected meal, sometimes life throws these things at us.
Panic and twofloorsup great start! Takes a bit of adjustment at first but as bestbees said it really does get easier.

PosiePootlePerkins · 04/01/2017 17:04

Oops sorry I was referring to mimiasovitch's post about it getting easier.
There are so many of us now! Grin

twofloorsup · 04/01/2017 17:42

Would it be unreasonable to have some chips with chicken stew and dumplings so it fills the plate (and me) ? Smile

Bestbees · 04/01/2017 17:46

Eat them! That is what makes this diet great! I had fish and chips on the second. Down 2lb already. The whole point is to enjoy food. Over time choices even out as you learn about your hunger and you think I better make the meals count nutrionally.

PosiePootlePerkins · 04/01/2017 18:04

Definitely. Bestbees speaks sense! I have just had homemade burger in a pitta bread (a bit random but had no rolls!) with curly fries and salad. Yum.

eltsihT · 04/01/2017 18:09

Can I Join in too? I lost 1st 6lb no s'ing 2015/16 but since October 2016 I have put on 8lb so looking to get back on track.

twofloorsup · 04/01/2017 18:40

They are in the actifry now thank you Smile

TheChampagneGalop · 04/01/2017 18:45

I'm doing this diet too! Thanks MN for informing me of it's existance. Day 3 has (mostly) gone by with much less trouble/cravings than day 1 or 2. I really like this proper meals and nothing else in between thing. Makes the meals much more satisfying.

I have a huge sugar addiction/habit going on so this is to break it...

AristonAndOn · 04/01/2017 18:50

Day 1 almost completed with great difficulty, I'm hoping just getting the first day done properly will give me confidence.

GlumsTheWord · 04/01/2017 18:53

Day 2 coming to an end and I haven't had any slip ups yet! I do think it's easier at the moment because we are still getting up later than normal. Ds is back to school tomorrow, so we'll see how I manage with my more normal 7.30 breakfast. Also found that I got very hungry last night, which I don't normally. I am on dry January at the moment, so maybe I noticed it more without the booze to distract me!

I'm cooking pork chops for dinner and am absolutely starving. It's really nice to enjoy meals more now that I am properly hungry.

Keep it up everyone!

Lessthanaballpark · 04/01/2017 18:56

Hello all! I'm on day 4 of No S and I'm feeling glad I didn't opt for a complete boycott on sugar because I'm so looking for to a caramel latte on Saturday.

Does anyone swap Sunday for Friday or would that put me on the slippery slope to despair?

stumblymonkey · 04/01/2017 19:02

Hi all,

I'm interested in this 'diet' as it seems very sustainable....but I have a lot of weight to lose and only about six months before I have to buy a wedding dress.

For those that have been doing it for more than a month...how much did you have to lose and how much have you lost so far?

Thanks for the help!
