I know there is a thread for active weight loss but a quick look shows its already started and seems to be followed by those who have 1 to 2 stone to lose. This positive support thread is for us heavier ones with the short term goal to lose 2 stone by Christmas.

Some will remember my weight loss journey. Several stones lost and several more to go. I thought it might be nice for us to boast about our losses or cry about our gains together. Support with no judgement.

OK, week 1, 8 lbs off. Very pleased. I know it won't continue at this rate, but it's an excellent kickstart! Smile

babyand · 16/09/2016 08:10

Hi guys can I join?? Have 3 stone 3 lbs to personal target in slimming world. Just joined on Wednesday Blush

PinkFreesia · 16/09/2016 08:32

I'm going to post and run (not literally - not yet anyway). This morning my total weight loss for the week amounts to 9lbs. Very chuffed, yes its week one and this won't carry on being a huge figure but its such a cool start. Only 19lbs to my target.

I'll just say a quick welcome to new joiners of the thread, please share your weight losses and your goals if you would like to.

And a MASSIVE WELL DONE to those who joined at the start and have posted weight losses already.

I will come back here this afternoon and have a proper read. x

So many losses already, well done everyone! Welcome babyand no need for the blush, we all have to start somewhere. Good luck with your first week.

GirlsonFilm · 16/09/2016 09:57

Excellent start everyone!

I started Monday and I'm 4lbs off to today, so feeling motivated to loss more as it will be a whole week next week.

PinkFreesia · 16/09/2016 10:02

well done GirlsonFilm. 3lbs off next week and you'd have lost half a stone!

Imnotaslimjim and scratchypoopants - well done. Are you following a diet or just counting cals?

OP posts:
PinkFreesia · 16/09/2016 10:13

MrsWOLF1 - wow you are the one to watch. :)

Sleeplessinmybedroom, you sound focused and doing really well, every little bit adds up. my average weight loss each week is just 1.6lbs. some weeks 3-5 some just 1/2.

Laniakea - how are you today?

Imnotaslimjim · 16/09/2016 10:33

Thanks PInk I don't tend to use the term diet as I've had disordered eating in the past and I'm worried using old terminology will send me back down that path.

TBH I'm just making sensible choices. I'm wheat intolerant but don't really stick to it, so I've given up wheat. I've also promised my children that I won't eat chocolate until Christmas. On top of that, the nurse has suggested a limit of 1400 calories a day but I'm managing to stay under that (yesterday was my lowest at 1100)

steppemum · 16/09/2016 10:38

hello
can I join please, but can I ask for help?

One of my big problems is that I need to cook a family meal every night, and we sit down and eat together. Time and money is short, and I just fall down at trying to cook for them and for me.
Family are: 1 hollow legged teen
1 just started secondary,
starving 8 year old, plus dh who is annoyingly healthy, but like a proper meal.

Any suggestions as to what I could follow and how to go the meal thing. I have 4 stone to loose.

PinkFreesia · 16/09/2016 12:53

welcome steppemum,

One of my filling but relatively low cal food choice is the gastro fish from the freezers at Asda, each portion is only 112 cal and quite big, I then do a rice mixed with veg and an oxo cube (so like a fake stir fry rice) Or my slow cooker, pack it with whatever, I also bulk out recipes with lentils and beans which is defo cheaper than large quantities of meat. My slow cooker is usually for stews or curries in our house. :)

HI Imnotaslimjim

I don't follow a diet either I just use calories as my guide. In fact I lost my first 4 stone by just making healthy choices. 1 biscuit instead of 1 packet, 1 spoon of rice instead of 2, that kind of thing. I mainly tried to work on portion sizes which I'm still working on :) good luck for the next week

Thanks for the welcome guys! I lost 4 stone on weight watchers before dd but have put it all back up and more after having her. I know. That I will never be at that weight again and I don't want to be it was really hard to keep at that weight it just wasn't realistic but I'd be happy a stone heavier than my lightest! I'm giving slimming world a go this time as I have to have someone weighing me every week or I don't hold myself accountable

scratchypoopants · 16/09/2016 13:51

PinkFresia - thanks for the congratualtions and a massive well done to you too. Also, thanks for starting the thread, there seem to be a lot of us who appreciate it. I have just finished week 1 of round 2 of the blood sugar diet. I did 8 weeks in early summer, losing 3 stones, and then had some time off over the summer holidays (partly because they recommend you only do it for 8 weeks, and partly because I knew I'd struggle as there were a lot of things going on over the summer that weren't really compatible with 800 calories a day). I managed to maintain, so now am doing it again for another 8 weeks, after which, I will try and maintain for a bit again, and then do another 'big push'. I also use MFP for calorie counting.

Hello Steppemum, I have to say that I find a low carb route quite good for fitting in around family meals, as I often just have what DH and DS (also 8 and starving!) but without the carbs. So, on Sunday we had roast chicken with salad, and they had some nice bread with it. Yesterday, I made a spag bol, and I just had bol minus spag. Also, sometimes I'll have a veg curry with cauliflower rice and give them ordinary rice, or fish and salad, and they have chips etc. So that's one way of doing it. Best of luck!

PinkFreesia · 16/09/2016 14:08

How do you manage on just 800 cals a day scratchypoopants?
I sometimes lower my cals to 800 once or twice a week when I plateau but 8 weeks must be so hard. Although with the results it's definitely worth another go. how much more do you have to lose?

Sleeplessinmybedroom · 16/09/2016 14:53

Well done to all the losers.

LottieDoubtie · 16/09/2016 15:47

I chose a butternut squash and spinach dish for my lunch today over fish and chips as the other option, can't quite recognise myself... It better pay off on the scales on Monday!!

scratchypoopants · 16/09/2016 16:54

TBH Pink, when I'm in the right frame of mind (like now), I don't find it too difficult. There is a relatively high fat content in the foods you are recommended to eat on BSD (e.g. full fat yoghurt fruit and a couple of nuts for breakfast, omlette with loads of veg and a sprinkling of cheddar for lunch, some sort of meat/fish and veg for tea), and that seems to help with the hunger cravings. Also, I drink a lot (aim for 3 litres of water per day). When I eat normally, I am never full up..... Last time I did this I had a couple of wobbles because I wanted a glass of wine, so I did on a couple of occassions, but then got back to it. Think it also helps that it is for a defined period of time. I am well aware that I need to sort out my eating habits long term but I have a lot to lose (11 stone originally, now ~ 7.5) and don't have the patience to do it the slow and steady way. I've put weight on gradually since my early twenties (now mid forties) and was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid a couple of years ago. I'm fairly sure that was undiagnosed for a long time, but now its under control - I don't think 25 years to get it all back off again would be sensible!

How much do you have to lose in total? And do you have a plan for maintenance now you are getting closer to your goal?

PinkFreesia · 16/09/2016 19:57

I've got around 8stone to lose and I've already done 7 and a half over the last year. I like the idea of eating proper food not low fat stuff but I'm also a bit torn because if i change my method will it end up with me gaining weight?

I think you hit the nail in the head about being in the right frame of mind. I really couldn't say what changed in me a year ago that I'm now lighter than i was as a teenager nearly 20 years ago.

OP posts:
PinkFreesia · 16/09/2016 19:58

Scratchy do you need to know blood type for this weight loss plan?

OP posts:
scratchypoopants · 16/09/2016 22:21

No, not the blood group - they do suggest that you get a blood sugar measurement to see if you're diabetic or pre-diabetic. I didn't do it immediately beforehand, but am pretty sure that I am not diabetic.

Walkingdisaster91 · 16/09/2016 22:43

Congratulations to everyone who has lost this week ☺ I have only lost 1lb this week and I just feel really frustrated about it Sad and even though I have been doing my best to eat healthy I think I only lost it because i've started the school run again. Guess i'm just going to have to make more of an effort 2 jump on the cross trainer Confused

steppemum · 17/09/2016 23:21

right, went and bought new scales today as old ones (well, only 18 months old, Grrr) broke.
So, will weigh myself tomorrow am.
dh away this week which gives me an unoticed start which I like.

GreenHen · 18/09/2016 10:28

Hello - can I join too please?

I weighed in at 211.4 lbs (15 st 1.4 lbs) yesterday. I'm 5'6'' so need to lose 4-5 stone. I know that 2 will make a big difference though and I would be so pleased if I could lose that by the end of 2016 (which has been my heaviest year ever).

I've been really struggling to/putting off starting - burying my head in the sand. I think I've got used to being this heavy, even with all the negatives that come with it. It's definitely time to start being kinder to myself and stop letting this be good enough for me!

Going to start right now. Probably SW, for today at least. I just need to start. Now.

Imnotaslimjim · 18/09/2016 19:37

Well done Greenhen now is a great time to start.

I've not had a great weekend food wise - I had ice cream last night (with malteasers and sauce) and cheesy pasta tonight. I've only gone 400 calories over my limit in total over the 2 days so it isn't too bad. Straight back onto my plan tomorrow, no need to self-sabotage just because I've gone over a little.
