Who's up for the 7lbs in September challenge?

ponygirlcurtis · 01/09/2016 08:32

Following on from June, July and August's threads, we're aiming to lose 7lbs.
(Posting as Rshard is still on holiday - hope you had a great time!)

All regimes welcome. Support and encouragement guaranteed!

My starting weight for September is 11st 5.25lbs. (I actually ended yesterday at 6.5lbs but the scales have jumped down again so I am having it!). That means I lost 5lbs in August. I found having this thread helped my focus and determination, if it helps anyone else, fantastic! Smile

Good luck everyone!

Kato 10lbs in pregnancy is fantastic! I did 5 stone with DD then lost that and managed 4 with DS. Clearly didn't learn my lesson!
Congrats on the 5 stone, great that Mumsnet helped you to do it

KatoPotato · 12/09/2016 12:14

Thanks guys! DS is 16months now, and it was initially 20lbs, but I've taken this long to shift 10, with 10 to go? Thanks to breastfeeding and cake cancelling each other out! Now I'm back at work and not walking miles with the buggy!

CarrieLouise25 · 12/09/2016 12:19

I echo weekends are hard. I weighed in yesterday 2lbs up!! I did nothing to deserve that Sad

Hoping it's water retention.

Most of my empty calories before went on drinking. Teas and coffees, juice and then evening wine. Now I just have one cup of tea. Lots of water. Getting used to it now.

On phone so hard to type/scroll back - welcome newbies and well done to more weight losses! Hope we all have a good week! Smile

QuimReaper · 12/09/2016 12:23

Well done to everyone with your losses!

I always weigh mid-week after a few good days, rather than straight after the weekend Grin

Let's just say of my weekend that I have half a pizza sitting there looking at me with big cheesey eyes... Must resist!

CarrieLouise25 · 12/09/2016 12:56

Thanks to breastfeeding and cake cancelling each other out!

Kato this made me laugh - I did exactly the same.

I kept saying to DH 'breastfeeding helps you lose weight - my arse!!!'

So, I think I was cancelling out the good works Grin

Still 2lb up today. Scales are close to being deemed 'broken' - and thrown out Sad

MsHeffalump · 12/09/2016 13:49

Doin no, no, the 7.8lbs is my total loss since the first of the month. Still not bad for twelve days! But last month I did great for the first couple of weeks and then totally fell off the wagon, so it was a fresh start for a fresh month. And the first week tends to be unsustainably high loss, after all. Plus it helps being so enormous - my maintenance calories are something ridiculous, like twice what the calorie counters here are aiming for, so a large calorie deficit each day is pretty easy to achieve.

Rshard · 12/09/2016 14:45

Finding it quite hard to get back into the swing of things, but hopefully will be easier with a full week of school and work.

Managed a long walk and a run over the weekend. There was also an icecream.

Well done on the losses, very impressive

Helloheyhi · 12/09/2016 16:16

Perhaps start again slowly Rshard? Back to basic and start from there?
I also find it hard to get back into swing of things after holidays etc. but I find that if I start slowly, my routine automatically builds up.
Slowly restarting with parts of your normal, regular routine over a few days or a week or two can make the transition easier and less stressful for you. You have already started by the long walk and run, hope the rest comes naturally back to you now.
Re writing your goals and how you plan to meet them might give you the fresher approach to once again tackle the boring, not-interesting and mind numbing stuff that this dieting business is Grin

Plan, prepare, schedule - it's the only thing that helps me when I go off track which happens often enough Blush

QuimReaper · 12/09/2016 16:52

I have an exciting update here - I've just been for a swim!

OK, maybe "exciting" isn't the word Grin but as far as I remember I haven't been swimming (proper length-swimming) for about 8yrs.

I couldn't believe how hard it was! I used to swim like a frog when I was a kid, got my Gold badge and everything, and wouldn't think twice about putting away 30-odd lengths. Today I only managed about 18, and after the first 8 I got a stitch and had to have a big rest. More surprisingly still, when I got out I found I could hardly lift my arms over my head, my muscles were protesting so much. Really brought it home to me how unfit I am and how little exercise I do.

Still, I enjoyed it and it's inspired me to think I'll have lovely toned arms if I make a regular thing of it Grin

Rshard · 12/09/2016 16:58

Well done quim that's absolutely brilliant!

Thanks hello I think you're somehow getting to know me. I've been thinking about a new goals and have decided on Christmas for the new goal. Think it's 14 or 15 weeks? Thanks for the words of encouragement

Helloheyhi · 12/09/2016 17:06

We have been hanging out for three months now! Grin Rshard
I am also aiming for reaching my goals by Xmas, think it's easily achievable for both of us with a few hiccups here and there. The new year will see us fitter, stronger & healthier!

Helloheyhi · 12/09/2016 17:08

Quim that's fab. You will soon have very lean arms and legs!! Absolutely love swimming but don't get the chance these days!

Rshard · 12/09/2016 17:36

We have been hanging out a while now haven't we!

Think Christmas is a great incentive, I'll weigh in on Thursday and go from there. I might make a spread-sheet!

hello is right about swimming and lean limbs quim, my DD is a swimmer and she's got super strong arms and legs.

Helloheyhi · 12/09/2016 19:17

Am determined we are gonna get there! A spreadsheet is a sound idea! Hope your daughter is enjoying her new school Smile

FrameyMcFrame · 12/09/2016 19:22

Hi can I join you?
I'm 11 st 3llbs and goal weight is just under 10 stone.
I'm reading the blood sugar diet, 800 low carb calories per day for rapid weight loss and blood sugar control.
Started today

QuimReaper · 12/09/2016 19:43

Thanks everyone! I thought 18 lengths was pretty pathetic, you're very kind to encourage me! Bloody marvellous news about the lean arms and legs too. Fat upper arms are my nemesis.

Framey welcome! I'm intrigued by the BSD but it just wouldn't suit my lifestyle: I could do it for maybe 4 days a week but as I understand it, that isn't really the idea (although I'd doubtless still lose a ton of weight eating that little for such a large percentage of my week). There's another poster kicking around here who has / had a diary thread with pictures of all of her meals, have you seen that?

Dyrne · 12/09/2016 21:54

DoinIt I definitely agree with you that it has to be a collective effort. Grin

Kato hello! A spreadsheet sounds fab, though too daunting for me to tackle - it'd be great to see a collective tally!

Great work on surviving the weekend, people! I've managed to stick to my calories today (well, 50 kcal over - but burned 500kcals today) so hopefully am back on track.

Hi Framey. I'm intrigued by the blood sugar diet - it seems to be based on some good science. You'll have to let us know how you get on!

Quim I am so jealous of you getting to go swimming - I used to absolutely love swimming but haven't been in ages. might be time to dust off the swimming costume now i know I can fit back into it

Rshard well done on easing back into it post-holiday.

QuimReaper · 12/09/2016 22:40

A spreadsheet sounds great, might shame me into losing more if I'm up there with all you losers with a paltry loss Grin

Dyrne I really recommend it, I was pleasantly surprised! Felt like a workout but an enjoyable one, not like going for a run which I just barely endure. And seeing myself in a bathing suit was a bit sobering Blush

FrameyMcFrame · 12/09/2016 23:24

It's been fine today so far. Had egg and avocado for breakfast, small portion of fish for lunch and chicken with broccoli for tea.
I was hungry this morning but felt fine all day after the fish. Hoping to see some results soon. Good luck everyone!

Rshard · 13/09/2016 07:01

Welcome framey

18 lengths is better than none quim!

FrameyMcFrame · 13/09/2016 07:33

Morning everyone. What is the hardest part of the day for you to stick to your plans? I find after I've put DS to bed hard as I usually have treats at that time and watch TV. I need to think of something to do instead of eating peanut m&ms...

Rshard · 13/09/2016 07:45

Thursday - my working from home day. Also my weigh in day so there is a sense of reward too!

MsHeffalump · 13/09/2016 08:05

Same here, Framey - after 7pm is when it's most likely to all go wrong. Fine at setting a good example during the day, but once DD's gone to bed there's a very strong urge to collapse on the sofa with the biscuits as a reward for surviving the day. Last night I succumbed because we survived not one but four days of FIL. Whoops.

Helloheyhi · 13/09/2016 09:30

Hi Framey welcome aboard the weight loss train!
I also bought the BSD book to get my blood sugars under control as I had severe gestational diabetes and was borderline after giving birth. I was scared as diabetes run in my family and my brother passed away last year due to diabetes related illness. He was only in his early forties. Anyway, I read all good things about the diet and was really determined to give it a go. Unfortunately, I couldn't hack it! I was too greedy Grin

As Quim mentioned upthread, there's a thread of a poster who followed it for 8 weeks and posted the photos of the meals. Perhaps have a look for motivation? The BSD has helped loads of people, hoping you will be successful too!

DoinItFine · 13/09/2016 10:35

Sorry about your brother, Hello. He was so young.
