Need to Lose Half a Stone but Finding it Impossible to get into "The Zone" !!

BaconAndAvocado · 12/07/2016 21:57

Help!

Half a stone has crept on since christmas and my will power is non-existent.

I know what I need to do but just can't seem to motivate myself!

Any ideas?

I'm 5'5" and I weigh 9st 10lb, the heaviest I've ever been.

I've lost weight in the past by cutting down and doing lots of walking so I can do it!

I'm a classic pear shape but the weight is going straight onto my stomach, it's getting uncomfortably big Blush

fenella I remember the days of teething! you have my full sympathy Smile

I've just done a cheeky weigh-in which revealed I'm now 9st 7 3/4lb!!!

I weighed myself a few times to make sure as that's quite a loss for me. Having said that, i only ate 2 chicken drumsticks for dinner last night and NO evening snacks (quite an achievement for me) .

I'd really like to maintain that for the Official Weigh-In on Friday, but that's probably unlikely. And I'm out for dinner tonight,......think we're going to Ask or Pizza Express (got some Tesco vouchers!) so I could have one of their yummy salads......

You have my sympathies fenella, I know all to well the feeling of neverending sleeplessness. I hope that you get a good night's kip soon! You're doing well, it's so hard to keep up your resolve when little monkeys conspire to keep you as exhausted as they possibly can.

Well done on the weight loss bacon!! That's brilliant! I also had a cheeky weigh in this morning couldn't help it and was down 1.5lb from Friday to 9st10.5! I'm desperately hoping I can maintain this loss for Friday's Official Weigh In too - let's hope we can do this!

I've been fairly good on the eating front except for this morning when some spiteful person left a giant bag of wine gums in the work kitchen. I couldn't resist and am ashamed to say I inhaled a good fistful or two Bastard sugar! I really am addicted to the stuff and am really cross with myself that I couldn't resist it.

I've also been struggling to fit in any exercise do far this week due to work/kids/time etc. I'm getting a bit restless! Honestly, on some days the only option for me would be to get up and do it at 5:30am. Due to little monkey DS disrupting my sleep every bloody night I just cannot face doing that! Hopefully my work will ease off a bit soon and I will be able to get home at a decent hour to fit something in Sad.

On a positive note I have managed to avoid the work canteen this week, bringing in healthy homemade salads for lunch instead. Dinner tonight is chicken fajitas. I've been averaging about 1500 calories a day since I started counting on Saturday. I hope this is going to be enough to lose given my lack of exercise.

FenellaFerranti · 27/07/2016 09:13

Oh well done both of you!! A little bit more crept off here which is motivating me to keep going. And I'm wearing those jeans today!! Feel quite good in them!

Lack of sleep is such a killer mrs and such a thief of energy and enthusiasm. Can you get some time off in the evenings when the kids have gone to bed? I did Pilates last night which was lovely but think I'll be sore later!

How was your dinner out bacon? It's nice events like that which make it so hard to eat sensibly, I don't get out much and I really want to enjoy my treats when I do Blush

MrsDesperado · 27/07/2016 09:30

Yay great you're wearing your new jeans and great feeling good fenella - this is what it's all about isn't it? That's great motivation.

MrsDesperado · 27/07/2016 09:33

Oops posted too soon! Trouble is kids won't don't go to bed/aren't asleep until 8:30...then we've got to cook and eat our dinner...Our whole evening routine is such a mess, I've been meaning to rejig it did a long time now. I really should prioritise this!

My restlessness got the better of me and I did another short YouTube HIIT session this morning at 6, the kids joined in! Spent most of the time with DS clinging onto my back so I probably worked twice as hard! Feels good to get it over and done with.

Hope everyone has a good day - only 2 days till weigh in!

FedUpBird · 27/07/2016 10:32

Hello Ladies,

Can I join you? I've just recovered from a very painful back problem so for the last few weeks have been high as a kite on diazepam, tramadol and the odd but of morphine...

Bad news is I haven't been able to move/walk/parent

Good news is I've gone from 12 stone to 11 stone 4 so lost about 8lbs, the tablets completely killed my appetite so am going to learn from this and change my eating habits and finally realising that I don't need to eat as much as I was.

I've been only eating when hungry for the past week and lost another pound. Also I've been eating pretty much what I want but not vast quantities like I was doing.

Hoping to get to 10 stone as I'm quite muscly and any lower and I look a bit ill.

Good luck on all your journeys, it's been great reading all your inspirational posts Grin

BaconAndAvocado · 27/07/2016 11:52

Hi fedup sounds like you've been through the mill Shock

Welcome!

My dinner out was very delicious but not particularly low calorie!

I had an Aubergine starter with grilled cheese on top (ouch!) a very worthy salad for main course and then,.........dessert, an olive and pistachio cake with ice cream, blooming lovely it was but I completely avoided any sneaky weigh-ins this morning!!

Back into the abstinence zone!

FenellaFerranti · 27/07/2016 21:17

Oh my goodness Fedup that sounds like tough going - well done for even thinking about losing weight under those circs!

Bacon that dinner sounds lovely and not sooooo very bad. And still time before Friday!

Mrs 8.30 is tough - both mine are out by 7.30 at the very latest and I'm kind of dreading them getting older and eating into my evening! Especially for you if DS is disturbing your nights too, you're amazing to be doing any kind of exercise. I suspect I have a bit of a prolapse after DS2 (he was 10lbs+ and finished what 9lbs+ DS1 started in terms of ruining my body) and I'm a bit scared to face up to it all. Plus I'm lazy!

MrsDesperado · 27/07/2016 22:29

Welcome Fedup

Your Pilates will help with that fenella, have you been doing it for long?
Yes - it is rubbish that the DC eat into our evening...we try to get them to bed for 7:30/8 but DD is a pain and resists and finds a million reasons to stall going to sleep. It's frustrating.

Your dinner + pudding sounds delicious bacon

DH managed to get home early so I escaped for a 5k run this evening - double exercise whammy for me today! Feeling shattered now though (in a good way). Diet has been ok today - green smoothie for breakfast, smoked salmon bagel for lunch then salmon/noodles/veg stir fry in a honey/chilli/soy sauce. Didn't mean to double salmon today but it was reduced in tesco so thought why not? So fairly healthy but the portions were all very big so it probably wasn't a great day in that respect. I also ate helped the kids with their ice cream too. That is the true reason behind my enthusiasm to go out for a run on top of this morning's exercise!!! Feeling very full now, tomorrow I will have to exercise good portion control if I want to see a loss on Friday.

BaconAndAvocado · 28/07/2016 21:56

Well I had a very strange day today food-wise.

One slice of toast with jam for, breakfast, an ice cream for lunch (passion fruit flavour, it was lush!) then a cupcake in the afternoon.

Extremely unhealthy but I just haven't felt hungry today!

Out to dinner tomorrow night but at least it's after the weigh-in!

OP posts:
MrsDesperado · 28/07/2016 23:51

That's a very strange day indeed! Not a lot there bacon, reckon you'll definitely see a downward change on the scale tomorrow!

Late night got me: I had a work crisis and didn't leave until 1/4 to 9 - home a whole hour later due to dodgy trains. Was feeling all smug about tomorrow's weigh in - oh how light I'll be as I've not eaten any dinner!

...

Half a bottle of wine and three quarters half a massive bag of sensations crisps later...Confused I'm not feeling quite as smug. Oops.

I'll need as many fingers and toes crossed as possible for tomorrow now! Here's hoping my efforts earlier this week will pay off...Grin

MrsDesperado · 29/07/2016 06:51

Good morning!

9st 10.25 for me today - that's a 1 3/4lb loss again this week! Pleased with that.

Had a crap nights sleep, miraculously it wasn't the boy's fault, instead I was quite hot and restless. I never sleep well after drinking wine - all so easy to forget this when I just want to put my feet up in the evening and relax!

We're off on holiday today until Thursday. This means I'm out for dinner tonight and tomorrow lunch and I have to contend with the indulgence that is hotel breakfasts on Sat/Sun. My aim this week is to maintain the 3.5lb loss that I've had over the past fortnight - I think it's going to be tough. I calculated that tomorrow's lunch alone will be ~2700 calories Shock. I really don't want to put back on what I've lost Sad Does anyone have any tips for eating well when they're away?

Hope everyone else has success on the scales today!

BaconAndAvocado · 29/07/2016 08:32

Morning all!

I'm so pleased, I'm now 9st 6lb so that's a 3 lb loss this week! I have just had 2 very very low cal days and I won't be able to do that this weekend!

mrs without wanting to put you off your game, IMO, when you're on holiday you need to enjoy your food. When I'm away at the end of this month there's no way I'm going to be calorie counting. You can claw it all back when you get home.

Now I have to avoid being too complacent Hmm

OP posts:
MrsDesperado · 29/07/2016 08:43

Yay well done bacon! Very inspiring!

Yes I know what you mean...when I said holiday I meant time off work looking after the kids, I'll be away visiting family/friends or soaking up the sun on a tropical island ...so slightly different? Difficult nonetheless when you're beholden to other people's hospitality. One thing I will do is let DH drink and I'll drive - should shave off a few hundred calories there!

MrsDesperado · 29/07/2016 08:44

*not , not or!

BaconAndAvocado · 29/07/2016 08:55

Thanks mrs

That's true, and very difficult if you're staying at someone's house. Good luck but don't lose heart if it doesn't go to plan.

I've just had my breakfast toast and am thinking of making some pancakes, for the kids obviously !!

OP posts:
FenellaFerranti · 29/07/2016 09:05

Well done guys! I'm now a smidge over 9st 8lbs so another lb off which I'm pretty happy with (although can't remember what the loss is - is that 1lb or 2lbs from last week??)

I agree with bacon, you need to enjoy the breaks. DH has a theory that it's good to have the odd blow out so your body doesn't get used to the lower calorie intake. I'll proviso that with the fact that he has zero scientific background whatsoever, but it makes sense to me - keep the body guessing!!

FenellaFerranti · 29/07/2016 09:06

Just checked back - almost 1.5lbs this week. Happy with that, especially as I had fish and chips for dinner last night!

BaconAndAvocado · 29/07/2016 09:28

Well done fenella

I'm so glad I've got this thread, haven't felt this motivated in a looooong time!

OP posts:
wishiwasntme · 29/07/2016 09:37

Can I join in?
I lost a lot of weight (8 stone), over the course of 2-3 years, about 5 years ago.

Unfortunately, over the last year I've regained almost 2 stone and I'm desperate to lose it, but I'm struggling with motivation. Boredom is my worst enemy.

I know that the bad habits have crept back in, so I'm hoping to cut out the snacks and the biscuits that I eat with my cuppa, which wouldn't be so bad, if I didn't drink about 12 cups a day! ( ends up being a lot of biscuits). I'm going to try and increase my veg/fruit intake as well.

Any tips appreciated Smile

wishiwasntme · 29/07/2016 09:45

mrs my advice would be to avoid hidden calories in the form of sauces, etc. Try to stick plain food (eg, fish with salad/ new potatoes, lean cuts of meat etc).

Eat the protein and veg first and try to eat slowly so you can recognise when you're full. Keep an eye on your alcoholic/sweet intake too.

FenellaFerranti · 31/07/2016 19:59

Hi Wish wow, that's an amazing weight loss well done! Not sure I have any tips to help put someone who's done so well but I've found posting here very good for motivating myself.

Haaaaaaaving said that I've had SUCH a naughty weekend and am currently drinking larger on the sofa while DH makes naughty dinner. Think I'll end up aiming for a blank week as I'll have to lose what I've done over the weekend with takeaways and booze. Mrs I hope you're looking forward to the week off and feeling relaxed this evening!

BaconAndAvocado · 31/07/2016 20:17

Welcome wish wowee! what an incredible loss! Well done you Smile

fenella naughty weekend here too! just had fish and chips! very scrummy but back to restraint tomorrow.........

OP posts:
MrsDesperado · 01/08/2016 08:38

Morning everyone!

Welcome wish wow 8 stone that's so inspirational! If your downfall seems to be snacking when you have a cuppa, could you limit yourself to 3(?) drinks day and instead have something like fizzy water the other times to replace the ones you've dropped - might break the association?

Well done on the loss last week fenella! Love this thread!

We got back home v late last night from a VERY naughty weekend visiting family. Lots of cooked breakfasts and pub lunches/dinners and pudding and lovely BOOZE and zilch exercise. I actually got a bit sick of eating and drinking by the end - unheard of!

Anyway, it looks like fenella's DH non-scientific 'good to have the odd blow-out' theory has proved right as I had a sneaky weigh-in this morning to assess the damage and discovered I'm down 3/4 of a lb from Friday to 9st 9.5! Couldn't believe it! Ok I know it's only a tiny loss but I really was expecting to have piled the lot back on.

Going away again today to stay with some friends for a fees days, would be very happy if I can maintain this weight for Friday's Official Weigh-in. Going to enjoy my time away but in some ways I'm looking forward to getting back to my normal routine so I can really concentrate on this.

Have a good week everyone!

BaconAndAvocado · 01/08/2016 10:56

That's fab mrs I might try that out Grin

I also had a sneaky weigh in is morning and I'm maintaining the 9st 6 lb !! Think my body might be in shock! When it recovers it may not be so positive!
