Need to Lose Half a Stone but Finding it Impossible to get into "The Zone" !!

BaconAndAvocado · 12/07/2016 21:57

Help!

Half a stone has crept on since christmas and my will power is non-existent.

I know what I need to do but just can't seem to motivate myself!

Any ideas?

I'm 5'5" and I weigh 9st 10lb, the heaviest I've ever been.

I've lost weight in the past by cutting down and doing lots of walking so I can do it!

I'm a classic pear shape but the weight is going straight onto my stomach, it's getting uncomfortably big Blush

I too went shopping without the kids today fenella my last full day of sanity before the holidays! 'Twas bliss Smile

Sounds like those jeans are going to be a real incentive!

MrsDesperado · 15/07/2016 21:06

Well done on your 1lb bacon!

Am jealous that you both got to go shopping sans kids today, especially after the day I've had with my two horrors! Quite frankly I deserve a vat of wine tonight but I am going to be good and abstain

Coincidentally, I've just put a pair of jeans in my online shopping basket that are half a size too small (they are out of stock in my size). Do I just order them and hope that they will be an incentive..?

FenellaFerranti · 15/07/2016 21:49

I've just been out for wine and pulled pork with chips Blush. Must do better tomorrow. How old are your kids bacon and mrs? I've got two boys - nearly 3 and 8 months. They're both utter sweeties but DS2 isn't too great in the sleep department and I've definitely been leaning on sugar to help me get through the days.

FenellaFerranti · 15/07/2016 21:50

Ps - order the jeans!!!

BaconAndAvocado · 15/07/2016 22:29

Thanks mrs !

There is definitely a "jeans" theme to this thread!! My most comfortable leg wear at the moment is my pair of jogging bottoms - lovely and loose on the waist but highly embarrassing if anyone comes round unannounced! Think Waynetta Grin

My DCs are DS1- 18, just finished A levels.
DS2 - 9yo
DD - 7 yo

All are, obviously, gorgeous and very excellent but, as you can see by their ages, I can't play the "I've just had a baby" card when it comes to my current lardiness.

Good morning!
Oh yes Bacon when I'm in the house I tend to slob about in an old favourite pair of jogging bottoms or a pair of Next patterned Hareems (slightly better). I am a bit of a slob, actually. I'm not sure at what point "comfort" became more important to me than looking presentable, am I on a slippery slope to old age?!

Haven't bought the jeans yet - I'm nipping into town (alone!) today so am going to try and swing by Gap and see if I can try some on and see how they fit. I've only 1 pair of jeans that fit me now and they've just developed a hole in them, it's definitely time to get some new ones.

I have 2 DC - DS4 and DD6. The boy has never been a great sleeper so I know how you feel Fenella - he's in our bed every night fidgeting and it really takes its toll. Part of the reason I've become so flabby is that I've been leaning on sugar too much to help get me through each day. Not any more though!! I was lurking on another thread about giving up sugar and there's some really helpful advice from a poster called KindDogsTail As a result I've started my day with 2 eggs scrambled on toast and am planning on having a hearty chicken soup for lunch. This should stop me making bad choices out of desperation and reaching for sugary snacks...Here's to a happy and healthy day!

BaconAndAvocado · 16/07/2016 10:54

Morning all!

Comfort is definitely more important to me when I'm in the house!! But I would never subject the general public to my joggers, they are under house arrest for ever more Smile

Not had a particularly healthy start to the day- croissant with butter for brekkie and a large cookie for elevenses..........I find it hard to eat less at the weekend, on weekdays when I'm working etc it's more doable.

OP posts:
FenellaFerranti · 16/07/2016 20:26

Oh maybe I need to look at cutting down sugar. Do you have to cut out fruit too?

I work from home when not on maternity leave so am slobby 99% of the time. Have been pinteresting a few ideas for 'sports luxe' looks which might mean I can pull off joggers with high tops and cashmere maybe? I think you have to be slim to pull it off though.

Dinner out here again, I find it soooo hard to be good at the weekend! But I've tried to limit snacks at least and I'm resisting a glass of wine for now.

MrsDesperado · 18/07/2016 11:34

Hope everyone had a good weekend. I was out last night so succumbed to a massive three course dinner and wine. The party is over now so back on to it this morning! Went for a 3 mile run when I got up, was really slow though - carrying this extra weight does me no good. Am feeling determined though. I got a good look at myself in the changing room mirrors and it was not a good sight at all!!! So that is helping to motivate me.

No, I don't think you necessarily need cut out fruit to cut out sugar - I eat a lot of sugar in the form of chocolate/sweets etc (particularly when stressed) so I am just going to try to stop or cut down that habit. Figure if I can eat three good proper meals a day that should help me. (Except it didn't on Saturday when I scoffed 4 chocolate digestives one after the other, Rome wasn't built in a day though!)

I agree I find it much harder to be disciplined at the weekend. I don't know what the answer is though except to keep busy and try and be out of the house as much as possible. Not easy if the weather's rubbish.

Toying with buying these as a respectable slobby day alternative. Agree it helps if you're slim - which we will be soon!

They might still end up looking slobby on me though, regardless!

BaconAndAvocado · 18/07/2016 17:34

Hi all!

Wow mrs those trousers rock! A bit young and trendy for,the likes of me though!

So far I've had an excellent day and it's usually this time of day that I can't stop scoffing!

I'm going to have a cous cous salad with smoked salmon for dinner then a Greek yoghurt later.

Hope everyone else is doing well.

Well, done on your 3 mile run mrs very impressive Smile

Hello, can I join please? I've had a rubbish few weeks with a weird combination of boredom and stress and hanging around the house a lot, and I've just been snacking constantly. I'm pretty sure I've put about half a stone on, I haven't weighed myself for a while...

I'm annoyed because I was feeling quite good where I was (about 10 stone at 5ft5), but now my clothes are starting to feel tight, and I need to stop eating crap but the boredom and stress aren't going to go anywhere for a few weeks. Posting here could help I think :)

MrsDesperado · 18/07/2016 18:00

Yeah bacon they are a bit bright! That's what's putting me off getting them...

Thanks, I want to try and get out for a run 3 times a week. It's a constant battle of wills though!

Glad you have had an excellent day. Your dinner sounds great! I've found drinking fizzy water helps me curb the scoffing, worth a try?

I've had a fairly good day though I did have to help the boy with his melting Mr Whippy - damn! We've got sausages/pasta/homemade tomato sauce with veg hidden in it, a compromise meal that the kids will eat. Must be disciplined when it comes to adding grated cheese on top of mine.

FenellaFerranti · 18/07/2016 19:03

Love those trousers mrs but my bori and word of caution is not to buy something bright unless you're sure it's really your colour. I've spent years buying stuff that's 'almost' right but not quite my colour and it inevitably ends up in the back of the wardrobe. Trying to stick to boring colours for now but I feel happier knowing I can throw them on happily on any occasion. But if that's your colour then go for it!!

Well done on the good day Bacon the dinner sounds very virtuous! I made the boys an amazing dinner of chunky salmon fish cakes and cheesy polenta chips followed by Marshfield farm ice cream and soft fruit from the garden. Needless to say I failed to resist the leftovers!

Feckity hello! Nice to meet you, it's annoying when the weight creeps on isn't it? Hopefully we can help each other!

feckity · 18/07/2016 20:48

Fenella - unfortunately it hasn't crept on so much as jumped on Grin

Sigh. Back to being hungry a lot...

MrsDesperado · 18/07/2016 21:40

Hello feckity, sorry I missed you earlier.

Yes I think I'll give them a miss fenella, I think the colour would suit me but they're just a bit too bold. If only the dark blue hadn't have sold out...

Struggling not to snack tonight. I've already had a minimilk and 12 salted almonds, that should be enough!! There's some wine calling me from the fridge and I'm trying to be strong. I'm feeling a bit deprived though and will probably go to bed shortly, sulking. Belly is still feeling and looking massive so it has to be done.

MrsDesperado · 18/07/2016 21:49

Thinking about hunger feckity, it's occurred to me that I genuinely rarely let myself feel it. On the rare occasions I do I never let it last for very long before I grab a quick fix, which is undoubtably unhealthy. I don't think that's right though, to not feel hungry, is it? It's probably the reason why I need to lose weight. I think the trick must be to re-learn that feeling hungry is ok.

BaconAndAvocado · 19/07/2016 07:50

Morning ladies, well my virtuous day came to a sharp end when I had a Cadburys twirl........I do have a very good excuse though as I had to take DD to A and E and 3 hours later, Hello Chocolate!

She's fine, we thought she's broken her little finger playing football but all ok. Not sure if she'll be awake any time soon though as we didn't get home till 10:30pm........

OP posts:
feckity · 19/07/2016 08:40

I'm glad your dd is ok Bacon. I don't blame you for turning to chocolate to get through an A&E wait.

On hunger - I believe you definitely have to feel hunger of some kind in order to lose weight. Your body doesn't like having enough calories to sustain itself, it will only attack your energy stores (fat) once it's done its best to make you find food first!

There are different kinds of hunger though. If I manage to break my sugar habit I find I can deal with hunger pangs a lot more easily. The first signs that you need to eat are a lot easier to ignore than blood sugar crashes you get after snacking on crap.

feckity · 19/07/2016 08:41

not having enough calories to sustain itself...

BaconAndAvocado · 19/07/2016 11:59

I absolutely agree feckity'about only losing weight when you can feel hungry.

The last time I lost quite a bit of weight I can remember feeling very very hungry and not giving into it. I'm not sure if that's healthy or not Hmm but I did get quite skinny, for me

OP posts:
feckity · 19/07/2016 12:19

Oh yes, definitely need a balance! I'm not aiming for very very hungry, just reeducating myself on what my body actually needs - I have a big problem with boredom eating.

Trying to work out what to have for lunch right now...

FenellaFerranti · 19/07/2016 14:01

Pleased your DD is ok bacon we had a trip to a&e the other day and it's definitely chocolate territory.

Sitting around in my underwear with a grumpy teething baby now. Torn between facing the grim reality of my flabby belly post 10lb+ baby and wanting to drown out the moaning with ice cream and biscuits. Unfortunately just creating a situation where I feel bad about myself while eating naughty foods!

BaconAndAvocado · 19/07/2016 16:57

Thanks fenella that's the second A and E visit in 6 weeks for us. It's definitely DH's turn next time!

No you're right feckity'its probably not a good idea to aim to be feel hungry! I honestly don't think I'll ever be that skinny again (8st 10lb) but I'd be very pleased with being 9st as I couldn't maintain being under 9st and I do like my food and the occasional blow out!

OP posts:
BaconAndAvocado · 19/07/2016 16:59

I've had quite a good day, so far. For dinner I plan to have a veg stir fry with crackers and then, with any A and E visits being avoided, just a yoghurt for an evening snack.

That's the plan...........

Hey,

I'm a big girl, started at 278.8lbs on 23rd June.

Since then I'm down to 263.4.lbs.

:)

Working out for an hour a day (at least) doing minimum 10,000 steps a day, and logging all my food intake in the app 'my fitness pal' which is working out at between 1000-1200 calories a day.

Also following Paul McKenna 'i can make you thin' which is helping so, so much!!

If you wanna PM me, I can try to help encourage you xx
