Just read a fab long one from 05 - with puff, snowball, cam etc etc on and wondered if there was a more recent thread like that running? If not can this be it?

I joined the gym this week and have been twice this week and going again tomorrow.

Finding it hard going but hoping for it to improve as my fitness does but Im really enjoying it!

Im aiming on losing a cuople of pounds by March and toning up for weddings in April and June!

Pecka - you must look fab with all that exercise. jealous as i cannot push myslef at the moment to the point of sweaty!

PeckaRolloverAgain · 02/02/2007 15:06

Bethoo I wish! This is only my 3rd week of going to the gym! Hoping for the results to show soon!

I do feel a lot tighter everywhere tho and have lost about 5lbs!

bethoo · 02/02/2007 15:32

if you have only been going a little while you will notice a change quite fast as your body is in shock. after a couple of months unless you change the intensity etc you may plateau so keep shocking that body to continue the fat loss and tone! sorry for sounding like a know it all! though i did do a fitness course back in 2000!

PeckaRolloverAgain · 02/02/2007 15:41

hey you dont sound like a know it all

im desperate to see some change and appreciate any advice on how to get the best of it!!

Sick of being saggy!

OP posts:
bethoo · 02/02/2007 15:55

i have the saggy part to come! so get ready for some self pitying moans in a month! my tummy was my pride and joy! now it is a footbabll and i am dreading jellybelly syndrome!

PeckaRolloverAgain · 02/02/2007 16:20

Bethoo, i hope your luckier than me. I have two kids and my stomach is hideous, hideous, hideous.

It just hangs and is flobbery and covered in stretchmarks

Do you have many stretch marks? if you dont you may have a good chance of getting it all back and I BET that your gym routine whilst pregnant will go a LONG way towards getting you back in shape.

I really wish I had done that!

Did some yoga this morning, just the sun and moon section bit on the Geri Yoga dvd (2)

PeckaRolloverAgain · 03/02/2007 08:44

Well done muckyanthea!

Im not too sore from gym session so think I will Davina DVD today - feeling guilty as I went out last night and instead of having melon starter then salad or tomato based pasta I had. Potato skins, chicken in pepper sauce with CHIPS and a mocha

Oh dear

hello

have not ben checking in but have still kept up some exercise. am curious to know what you routine in the gym is.

GYM:
warm up - cycle there (15mins)
cardio:
run - 15 mins run at 5.2 MPH
row - 10 mins
cross trainer - 15 mins at level 11
weights:
outer thigh 3x15 reps
inner thigh 3x15 reps

WEEK:

mon - body balance and gym
tues - gym and body pump
one other day - gym
w/end - swim with children

your turn....

PeckaRolloverAgain · 03/02/2007 10:21

GYM:
warm up - fast walk on treadmill for 15 minutes
Bike - 15 minutes on interval training program
Cross trainer - 35 minutes (level 1 )
Sometimes add the rower in instead of bike

weights:
outer thigh 3x12 reps
inner thigh 3x12 reps
abdominal weights 3x12 reps
chin up machine thing 3 x 12 reps
machine for chest 3 x 12 reps
leg thing 3x12 reps
bicep thing 3x12 reps
tricep thing 3x12 reps

Sorry I dont know the names of the weights machines I use!

My plan is to complete 3 sets of 12 - with the last few of the last set virtually impossible. Then I keep working on that weight until I find it manageable to complete all 3 sets - that is then time to up the weights. This is apparently best way to build lean muscle mass, thus increase metabolism and burn more fat wahey!

WEEK:

mon - gym
tues - gym
friday - gym
weekend - workout dvd if no chance at gym

I want to start going to some classes - what are your thoughts on body bump - will it kill me!?

oh and dimpled thighs, can you tell me a bit about what kind of results you have achieved since you started?

DimpledThighs · 03/02/2007 11:02

I lovely lovely love body pump! I hate cardio and have to force myself to do it, but body pump is fun and working with weights is great. It is very like you say - you work through a song with weighrts (guided by the instructor) with changing the lift so altohugh lifting all the time you are kind of doing approx 3x12 with each muscle per song - by the end you can barely lift - hence building lean muscle mass. You ache the next day but there is something about it I find very motivating and thr routines change every few months to stop it getting dull.

I have only been working out since about Nov last year with a bit of an xmas binge! I lost about 6lbs to begin with but in the last month I have not lost weight, but I think I have built muscle mass as my abs are much tighter and I have really noticed a difference in my thighs which are my most hated part. I tried on my old jeans last thurs and could do them up for the first time in ages so something is happening.

Body balance is my kind of relax and stretch thing. I have tried running in the past but never quite got adicted. Prefer the gym with warm showers and MTV!

PeckaRolloverAgain · 04/02/2007 10:50

Just done the Pump section of the Davina 3 30 minute workouts - can tell I will seriously feel it in my legs tomorrow!

OP posts:
bethoo · 05/02/2007 09:26

Pecka - Managed to avoid the stretchmarks so far! i only returned to the gym a couple of weeks ago as had a few problems with the pregnancy as well as suffering from fatigue most of the time but now i am more energetic! only 26 days to do to EDD! i am doing lunges on my legs and squats as hoping to have a water birth and need strong legs for the squatting position!

at the moment i do about half an hour on the bike then 10 minutes cross trainer then 10 minutes stepper then a few light arm weights and lunges on a step with squats in between each set.

MummyPenguin · 05/02/2007 11:20

Went to the gym this morning. Cycled there and back. Did a 20 minute run on the treadmill. 15 minutes on the stepper, then some leg and upper body weights. My third session back since my long lapse, I've been eating more sensibly, but don't think I've lost a lb so far!! So starting to feel a little bit despondent, but will stick with it, and hopefully the lbs willstart to come off.

Bethoo, you know what you were saying before about when you plateau, you should up the intensity, does that basically mean increase resistance on the machines, and try to stay on them longer etc? Those plateaus can be a bugger!

bethoo · 05/02/2007 11:36

Mummypenguin - yes, if you up the intensity rather than the length of time it is more effective. can you imagine not increasing the intensity but the time? eventually you would be training for hours! you must always push yourself harder when you plateau. for example what do you do on the treadmill? if you are jogging steadily for say 15 minutes try interval training where every two five minutes up the speed and sprint for one minute then as you fitness levels increase you can shorten the time that you jog between sprints. you will sweat loads but the feeling is invigorating! i hope you know what i am saying as it is hard without the machine being there!

MummyPenguin · 05/02/2007 11:56

Thanks bethoo, yes, I do know what you mean about the treadmill. At the moment, when I first go on it, I walk for 5 mins, then notch it up to a jog (about 8.5 kph? Not sure what the speed measurements are, but must be same for all treadmills?) Then increase that, so that I'm running at about 9.5. I think the fastest I've gone is 9.7. Hardly road runner ! The speed increasing sounds good, and will give that a go as my fitness levels increase.

Off to walk dogs now - counts as more exercise, yes?

Good luck to you too, you sound like you're doing really well so close to D Day!

bethoo · 05/02/2007 15:00

mummypenguin - i think you should try for double figures - a big fat 10kph. i can get up to 15 or 16 kph, though not at the mo! try the first at 10 then on the next time go to 9.9 and so on. then gradually you will be able to do it at 10 at every interval then once that is comfy you can increase it by 0.1 every interval. good luck but do not overdo it as only you know what your body is capable of.

MummyPenguin · 05/02/2007 18:22

Thanks bethoo. Blimey, I can't imagine running that fast!! I'm not a 'natural' runner, but, as my fitness levels increase, I will try and get that speed up.

MuckyAnthea · 06/02/2007 02:24

Hey mummypenguin, keep up the running, and let us know how you improve. My boyfriend is coming to my gym this weekend to 'train' me on how to run properly.
Yesterday I walked 14,800 steps while with a friend, walking around this great big city and getting lost! Today is housework day, but tomorrow is back to the gym!!

bethoo · 06/02/2007 09:12

Mucky - good luck with the boyfriend coming to help you as my hubby used to try that and i always felt like he was criticising me so could not help but get moody with him! and men are so competitive even with their partners!
Mummypenguin - if you saw me i am not built for running wither, in fact i do not know what sport i am built for!

PeckaRolloverAgain · 06/02/2007 12:18

My husband has been taking me to the gym a few times to help show me how to use the weights properly - I really like it, gives me a bit more confidence to try things than if I was on my own and I get the right horn watching him work out with muscles rippling everywhere!!!

I have been to the gym this morning. Did 15 mins interval training on bike then 10 mins ciruit trainer - just wasnt in the mood for cardio so did full body weights workout.

Came home and put Davina Cardio Box straight on so I still get my cardio allocation for today and really enjoyed that - worked hard for 30 mins and sweated buckets!

Keep up the good work everyone

Just looked in on this thread, and thought I'd say Hi. No gym today, but back tomorrow. Will have to be careful though, as I've had real pain in the top of my leg, round your knicker line, if you know where I mean. Had sharp twinges there before I started back at the gym, but I think going to the gym has exacerbated it.

Had a 'bad food' day too today.

MuckyAnthea · 07/02/2007 07:06

Hi all
Went to the gym today, did the usual with an extra 10 minutes on the leg/thigh thngio. Knackered me out good and proper, so hopefully I might lose weight this week.
Heart rate went back up to 172 though, even though I was breathing properly, it must have been the extra 10 minutes I did beforehand..I hope.

bethoo · 07/02/2007 08:57

Mummy - sounds like groin strain. rest it for a while.
i must confess the last time i went to the gym was saturday. fatigue has set in again and also it is bloody cold and i have to walk to the gym which is about a mile! just want to curl up when i get in and i do!
but i do intend to get back in there!
though my bump has taken a turn for the worse and has grown!!! barely fit anything now!

MummyPenguin · 07/02/2007 13:07

Yes, didn't go today, as it was twingeing this morning. It might be groin strain, although it's in the hip area. Bloody hurts anyway. It has been a bit better today, so I'm glad I didn't go to the gym. Hopefully get back tomorrow.

Bethoo, you've done amazingly well to carry on at the gym this far into your pregnancy. You deserve a break!!
