I'm loving the thought that you have some enormous dress stash that you keep raiding Rachey. When is the wedding you have to go to?
We cut lots of cost by making our own invitations (they were written from the perspective of our kids and they were inviting people, we even created our own font on the computer as the kids were tiny and it was easier to do than have to write the whole thing out).
I got my dress from Coast (they do a selection of limited edition dresses only available from their Bond St. store but you can ring and order them and get them delivered to your house. Returns are dead easy if you don't like it and you can be guaranteed your dress will be less mass produced than normal).
We got married in a registry office, neither of us are religious so there was no need for a church.
Reception was in a gorgeous private room restaurant in an amazing Hotel, immediate family plus spouses and kids and Grandparents only for the meal and then Aunts, Uncles and friends for the evening. Our families are enormous when you count everyone. Our total guest list for the whole lot of them was 280 people (Aunts, Uncles, Great-Aunts and Great-Uncles, Cousins and their kids and spouses). Everyone completely understood when we told them why we were scaling it back, I think they were relieved they didn't have to buy us presents.
The majority of our budget went on the food and drink, just over 1000 euro (I can't remember the exact amount). We had a 3 course meal, lots of wine and a tab behind the bar and then food for our evening guests. I bargained a bit on costs, I was quite brazen and they were happy to work with me. Don't be afraid to haggle.
I had a flower girl and my son was an unofficial Best Man. Suits and dresses from H&M, got both for about 65 euro. Shoes were about 50 euro from Schuh.
DH got married in a suit he had had for years - he never wears suits and the suit was gorgeous so I kind of thought there was no point in buying a new one for him as no one really looks at what men are wearing.
My SIL made our cake as a wedding present.
My mate paid for my hair and make up the morning of the wedding as a wedding present.
We didn't have a band or DJ. The function room had an amazing sound system so we had an ipod with a huge playlist on it hooked up.
My Mum's friend did my flowers, button holes and tiny posies for my flower girl. Again as a wedding present.
We got our rings in the sale. DH's was 70 euro and mine was 400 euro. Both were less than half price and that included insurance for 5 years. I have fallen down the hole of looking at wedding rings on Etsy and there are some absolutely stunning ones for really reasonable prices.
Sorry that this post has been very long. I think I have forgotten a load of stuff.
