Anyone out there need to lose a stone?

Twinklestar2 · 13/02/2016 19:03

I have yoyoed with the same stone since the beginning of last year. Getting fed up now but need some motivation to stick with it. Anyone else in the same boat? I'm so near yet so far!

Will be weighing in tomorrow and posting all food eaten. Feel free to join me!

Oh lougle don't be beating yourself up. That will just be the extra food that hasn't worked its way through your system yet.
Your scales must be amazing though I couldn't rely on my digital scales to record that small gain or loss accurately. If I jumped on them 3 times it would give 3 different readings Grin

Which reminds me I must weigh in. How is everyone doing? I have really been good this week with the exercise. 6 days out of 7 for at least 30 mins so I hope I'll see some toning if I can keep that up

fadingblonde1 · 24/04/2016 15:03

I haven't done terribly this week but I won't have lost anything as I've had two meals out. I've eaten fairly sensibly around them and done a bit of exercise but I've definitely drank too much on Friday and Saturday night.

I've left work now and know I'll have to really focus or the temptation will be just to slob out in front of the TV eating junk and feeling sorry for myself.

Oakley02 · 24/04/2016 15:15

Have had a bit of a weak week, but am planning to get back to being good tomorrow. Went shopping earlier and was thrilled when I managed to fit into a pair of trousers that were my usual (pre weight gain) size. Then my DH pointed out that they were two sizes larger than my normal size! Feel crappy now - please someone tell me that H & M sizes run MUCH smaller than other shops!Confused

Jellybeam · 24/04/2016 15:25

I'm 5ft5 and at my heaviest at 12st 7lbs. Finally want to lose the weight I put on in pregnancy. Put on 2 stone in a year Blush

Bovnydazzlers · 24/04/2016 22:07

Hi all,

Checking in after a week on holiday... Butlins all you can eat is not conducive to weight loss! I was up a pound from last week due to holiday overeating, but it was a planned diet break and 100% worth it!
I am back on it now, but deciding to follow the 'fit 2 fat' philosophy of sticking to 1500ish calories and going for slow weight loss rather than the 1200 I have been doing - I've always been lucky pre pregnancy that I had a good metabolism and could eat pretty much what I wanted and stayed roughly at the weight I was happy with (give or take a few pounds) - so whilst id like to lose this last half a stone, I think my ultimate aim is to do it in a way that doesn't screw up my metabolism, and I think that means taking it slowly.

twobambinos you asked what height I was with a goal weight of 8 stone 2 - I'm 5'2 but small framed and v pear shaped, 8 on top and currently 12 on bottom, I'd like to get back down to 10 on bottom so I don't feel quite so disproportionate!

DD has come down with a vomiting bug. I wonder if I'll be next for it?

She's drooping on the sofa, but doesn't seem that ill now so I'm hoping that she's well on the mend.

But wondering if I'm next in line for it. Bit of an over-drastic way of enforcing a 24 hour fast though.

fadingblonde1 · 25/04/2016 09:25

Hope your dd recovers quickly AuntieStella and you don't catch it. Nothing worse than vomiting.

Bovneydazzlers you've done well only gaining a pound on holiday, I bet it drops off as soon as you go back to normal eating.

Well supposedly I've lost another pound but I don't see how. For the first four days of the week I averaged 1200 cals a day but the last three I had about 1800. I wonder if I will have a gain in a few days time due to 'lag'. Still it was a pleasant surprise and makes me feel more motivated to eat well today :)

twobambinos · 25/04/2016 12:00

Bonvy well done a pound on holidays is great. I don't even know why I asked we ate totally different shapes. I carry my weight on my chest and belly.
I weighed in yesterday 9St 8.5 so only lost a half a pound and I exercised 6 days last week. I just don't know. So far so good today I'm going to up the water intake alot this week and plan for 6 days of exercise again.

Hope your dd is feeling better auntie, many times I wished for the vomiting bug myself Grin but it is grim so I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Bovnydazzlers · 25/04/2016 15:01

twobambinos I'd love a few more pounds on my chest, my breasts are the first things to disappear when I lose any weight!! The holiday 'one pound' isn't that impressive, it was only 5 days (fun though!)

fading well done on your pound loss, 1800 isn't that much, and averages out pretty low still, especially if you take into account any exercise calories.

Twinklestar2 · 25/04/2016 18:37

Argh succumbed to cake today in the office Blush

Hope your daughter is better soon Stella.

Fading well done on the pound loss.
Twinkle was it nice cake? If I give in and it's nice I don't mind too much but if it's horrible and I still eat it anyway I'm kicking myself!

Exercise done for today and 2.25l of water drank so I'm ready for tomorrow.

AuntieStella · 26/04/2016 08:07

She's much better, thanks! No more vomit, and she did have a bit to eat. But her temperature was still hopping round yesterday until the evening, so she's having one more day off school for that to completely settle.

I was wondering if I was coming down with it too, having felt a bit 'tummyish' yesterday, but still OK other than slightly stir crazy from being at home too! I managed not to nibble, but did have a couple of glasses of wine in the evening (unusual for a weekday). If she's fine (as I expect today) I'll be able to pop out to the shops and intend to walk the long way round. Not so much for exercise, just to be out (purposefully) for a little longer.

Twinklestar2 · 26/04/2016 11:27

It was nice cake! I ended the day by eating loads of crap! Back on track today!

readyforsunshine · 27/04/2016 18:19

I'm being hopeless I'm afraid, & I'm away for the w/e & will def be eating & drinking. I have managed to exercise but had wine most days Hmm & lose it every evening! I feel sooo hungry at the moment, I think it's the carbs. I've just eaten the cut off edges of a lemon drizzle tray bake ffs!
I promise to get back to it on my return but well done to you all for sticking at it Smile

Twinklestar2 · 27/04/2016 18:26

I've been bad too but but good today Grin

Oakley02 · 27/04/2016 19:06

I've been bad, bad, bad. Next week promise to do better! Really admire you all for being good. Sunshine - would have been hard to resist lemon drizzle! Grin

lougle · 27/04/2016 19:17

I'll wave the flag for all of us 😉 I'm going strong. Down to 65.3kg, which although only a 100g net loss, is good because I went up from 65.4kg to 65.6kg then back down to 65.4kg. So it's good to see a brand new number!

Oakley02 · 27/04/2016 19:43

Lougle - please can you send me some willpower/kick up the arse? 😊

lougle · 27/04/2016 20:03

Gentle encouragement? Smile

I found that it was easier to switch out foods that are high sugar/carb/calorie for lower sugar/carb/calorie foods rather than trying to eat loads less suddenly.

Another thing I did was cut down amounts slowly. I was having 300g Greek yoghurt in the morning (pure greed Blush). I've gradually gone down 250g, 225g, 200g, 175g, 150g. All I've lost its the bloated feeling! 150g is quite sufficient. Another thing I've done is cut sweet stuff gradually. So I was having 20g jam or golden syrup on it, and have gradually cut it down to 5g.

A cheeky trick I've discovered is to eat the bulk healthily (so 125g yoghurt with 50g strawberries, say) then save the last 25g to have with 5g golden syrup. That way the last taste in your mouth is the golden syrup and your body doesn't realise that you haven't had golden syrup with the whole lot Grin.

Small changes Smile

lougle · 27/04/2016 20:06

Today I had a huge plate of salad. Mozzarella, pulled ham hock, beetroot, cucumber, tomato, baby bistro salad leaves, avocado. 323 calories total and absolutely stuffed.

Oakley02 · 27/04/2016 20:29

That is helpful, thanks. Do you cut out alcohol too?

lougle · 27/04/2016 21:04

I don't drink alcohol, but I have cut out J2O drinks. I only had them if we went to my parents' for a Sunday roast, but it's 130 calories that could be better spent on roast potatoes!

I've also cut down the amount of meat I eat. I didn't realise what a 'normal' portion was (about 3 ounces or 75g). Again, I've found that getting the taste of the meat means I'm not that worried how much I've had as long as the other food I have is satisfying.

I've gone relatively low carb. I've cut out cereals and bread pretty much altogether. White potatoes are once in a blue moon - we eat a lot of sweet potato, which is lower calorie, lower carb and full of vitamin A. Barley is a good carb choice. My Dad showed me a fab barley salad with tomatoes, beetroot, cucumber, grapes and a touch of balsamic vinegar/oil dressing.

Oakley02 · 27/04/2016 21:26

When you have a moment, would love to know your Dad's barley salad recipe.

lougle · 27/04/2016 21:48

Sure. I've tweaked it to make it slightly less calorific decadent than his! But it's still just as tasty:

21g pearl barley (74 kcal)
75g cucumber, diced (8 kcal)
75g baby plum tomatoes, halved or quartered (12 kcal)
45 cooked beetroot, diced (20 kcal)
30g grapes quartered (21 kcal)
2.5ml vegetable oil (21 kcal)
2.5ml balsamic vinegar (3 kcal)
Total 159 kcal

The pearl barley has to be rinsed and cooked in plenty of water for 75 minutes. I use a pressure cooker so it only takes 25 minutes. Then you just let it cool and mix it with all the other ingredients. Simple as that.

anothermadamebutterfly · 27/04/2016 22:37

Hi everybody! Haven't posted for a while, but I am still lurking, it has been a very very busy two weeks, lots of work things, lots of kiddy events, and several big family get-togethers.

All the loosers out there, well done! And the rest of you, do not give up - the summer is not yet here, so you still have some time before you have to start worrying about the summer clothes.

lougle, thanks for sharing that, some great tips. The barley recipes sounds good, I could give that a try. I have a really delicious salad suggestion for you all, which is made with roast buckwheat (also called kasha, make sure it is roasted as the unroasted sort is not as good), which is very good for you, and I think is low carb. You cook it (takes about 10-15 mins, I always cook it less than some suggest because I don't like it mushy), add cut up beetroot and some feat cheese and dill, and then add a dressing (olive oil with balsamic or white wine vinegar). And some spring onion if you feel like it.

I will brave the scales tomorrow morning. I think things have been going well, have been out a few times to restaurants but have chosen the lower calorie options and avoided drinking too much, and I have been going running quite regularly. We will see.
