Anyone out there need to lose a stone?

Twinklestar2 · 13/02/2016 19:03

I have yoyoed with the same stone since the beginning of last year. Getting fed up now but need some motivation to stick with it. Anyone else in the same boat? I'm so near yet so far!

Will be weighing in tomorrow and posting all food eaten. Feel free to join me!

I'm using MFP, and am eating little during the day but having a normal family meal in the evenings (paying more attention to amount than I did before). Also less alcohol (weekends only) both to save calories directly and to stop me eating more when I've had a glass or two. And takeaways becoming a monthly treat rather than a weekly TGIF.

So looking back, that's half a stone off in about a month, ie 1-2lbs a week. So this time next month I could be at the next tier target. Not quite through the Easter hols though, and I'll be visiting my DMum and that'll probably involve eating more differently, so I need to allow for that.

fadingblonde1 · 01/04/2016 10:31

Well done Stella and Twinklestar :)

I'm very pleased to have lost 0.8 of a pound, after Easter I'm sure I initially gained weight, would have been impossible not to have.

I'll have to be very careful now as I have next week off work and it's so easy for me to spend all day picking. I really must get a grip on that as I'll soon be made redundant and will be able to do it day in day out :(

anothermadamebutterfly · 01/04/2016 11:02

Hello everybody, I have come to join you for the Friday weigh-in, as promised. Well done Twinkle and Stella, that is fantastic!

I am 10 stone 5 lbs this morning, which I am delighted with. This means that I am now out of the overweight range on the BMI calculator. I can't remember what I was last week (when I was ill), but in total that means that I have lost 5lbs since starting on 7 March, slightly more than my target of 1 lb per week. So I have another 6 lbs to go to get me to my tier 1 target, which is to get out of the 10s and into the 9s.

My menu today is/was:

Fried egg on lightly buttered toast (I have been trying to have boiled or scrambled, but I was making fried eggs for the kids and couldn't resist)
Beetroot sour soup (like a Russian borsh, my absolute favourite soup ever)
Fish with asparagus and new potatoes and a herb sauce

(slightly better menu than normal have as I am off work this week with the kids, so have more time to cook)

RunningLou I did some parkruns last year and really loved them. I can't go at the moment as I drive my DS across town for an activity that he is into when they are on, but I am quietly hoping that he will lose interest in that activity and instead develop an interest in running, so we can both go to the parkruns together!

anothermadamebutterfly · 01/04/2016 11:07

fading just noticed your post, well done on the weight loss, but the prospect of redundancy stinks. My role/ (in fact, the entire section/department I work in) could be axed later this year, nothing definite yet, so I could have to look for a new job, very worrying.

Have you starting looking for a new job?

Bovnydazzlers · 01/04/2016 13:20

Well done all the Friday weigh ins! Some great results, keep at it.

this is my MFP chart, I have had a wriggly week (I weigh most days), my week wasn't helped with going away for Easter and a Thai meal midweek. But the trend is generally in the right direction this month so hoping for a couple more pounds to lose before I go away in 2 weeks time. Half a stone to go to my pre pregnancy weight.

Anyone out there need to lose a stone?
fadingblonde1 · 01/04/2016 13:33

Madamebutterfly I've not started to properly job hunt yet - haven't even done a CV! I need to start getting organised although I'd quite like to have the summer off with the kids. After years of trying to balance childcare with an unpredictable work schedule it would be nice to not have that headache for once.

AuntieStella · 01/04/2016 14:20

Yes, my additional good news is that my BMI is now 24.8, so even though I want to knock a bit more off, I am officially no longer overweight Smile

The less good news is the appearance of the saggy skin on my tummy, and I suspect nothing can be done about that. Thank heavens for Spanx!

Twinklestar2 · 01/04/2016 14:23

Runninglou – I have 45g of muesli with 100ml of milk. Usually I have lettuce, toms, houmous, olives and either chicken or ham in my salad. Today I had chicken :D

Well done auntiestella and fading! Fading, so sorry to hear you are being made redundant :(

madamebutterfly - well done!

runningLou · 01/04/2016 14:25

madamebutterfly I love your menus - no idea how you manage without puddings though (my sweet tooth is my downfall!) do you eat fruit?
I love parkrun and am going for my 100 t-shirt - run #98 tomorrow but I think it will be a rainy one and my times are crap at the moment but it's still better to get out there than not.

runningLou · 01/04/2016 14:26

Thank you Twinklestar I love muesli but always lose track of sensible portions. Will have to weigh it up.

lougle · 01/04/2016 14:45

I'll join you. I'm doing MFP with 1200 calories. Not low carb as such, but I'm reducing as much as possible.

On 28/3 I was 69.3kg and today I'm 67.3kg, so 2kg/4.4lb last so far.

I'm generally having homemade Greek yoghurt for breakfast, topped with banana/blueberries/10g jam or 5g golden syrup.

Lunch is something light - one sandwich, soup, or similar.

Dinner tends to be meat with roasted vegetables or homemade scotch broth, etc.

lougle · 01/04/2016 14:47

I'm not certain about that loss though, because I used a set of scales I'm suspicious of on 28th. I've been MFPing since 18th March.

AuntieStella · 01/04/2016 18:21

I'm always suspicious of my scales too. I've had them for about 25 years though!

They do sometimes hop around a bit, so I take several readings. I suppose I know their quirks now.

And only really believe I've lost when I am securely at a certain weight, rather than just working towards (and sometimes getting).

twobambinos · 01/04/2016 21:09

I fell off the wagon again same old same old. I'm back up to 9St 10 and starting again Grin
Glad to see there's loads of losers on this thread thought everyone keep up the good work.

readyforsunshine · 01/04/2016 21:53

Lots of posts & lots of good losses, well done everyone! Exciting to hit markers/targets, especially into a new stone number. I totally forgot to weigh in this am! Dh & ds set off at the crack of dawn & I went back to bed with my coffee, woke up later & forgot. I will try again tomorrow but have just stepped on & reckon I'm stabilised, which I'll be happy with After cheese & chocolate feasting of Easter!
Had a lovely bowl of buckwheat noodles with veg with chilli ginger & garlic. Another week of school hols to get through.
Sorry to hear your news fadingSad

anothermadamebutterfly · 02/04/2016 00:02

A happy loser here! Scales are treacherous, I only trust them when the result is what I want to see Smile. ready your buckwheat noodles sound delicious, I love that sort of meal. Runnng thanks! I like cooking when I have time, and especially now that the kids are getting older and a bit more open to trying the food I like (even if they still reject some of it). I have never been too fussed about deserts, I do not really have a sweet tooth. I have been trying to eat more fruit, but I find that can be a bit of an effort. Anyway, 98 parkruns is amazing, do you really get a T-shirt when you reach 100 runs?

lougle home-made Greek yoghurt - I am intrigued! How do you make it?

readyforsunshine · 02/04/2016 07:34

I'm 10.2 1/2. I've set my first target at 10, closest I got to it was a sneaky midweek weigh of 10.1/4 so I'm def up after Easter. Second target is 9 st anything Grin third is 9.10, which is when I fit back into my clothes, 9.7 is where they feel comfortable. I will be very happy with 9.7 & toned, it's totally achievable & easy to maintain, lower than that means I have to work at it all the time.
Today I'm at a show with dd then we are out tonight where there s a set meal. As usual I've packed my virtuous food but I always struggle at shows. I don't even like chips & cheap bacon sandwiches but the smell of them along with the adrenaline makes them so appealing! Have a good day all, I'm off to load up the lorry.

Twinklestar2 · 02/04/2016 08:03

Ready I am lovely and slim at 9st 7 too. Like you say, it's not that far or unacheivable, it's not like it's 7 or 8 stone. It's a nice normal healthy weight.

hinkyhonk · 02/04/2016 09:17

Checking back in again. Only 0.6lb up after an Easter with family and eating with gay abandon Blush

Def was expecting worse. But had a really bad night with the baby so tends to lead to crap eating but there is no more Easter egg for me in the house on the plus side.

Need to kick my brain into gear. Only 3 m until my birthday and I really want to be 8 something for that. Am only 5'2 so looking really lumpy at 9st 10 and it's really getting me down and making me comfort eat. A vicious cycle... Right stsrying again (again)

lougle · 02/04/2016 09:38

anothermadamebutterfly I have an Instant Pot that has a yoghurt function. I can make 8 pints of yoghurt at a time (using a 60p Yeo Valley yoghurt as the starter for the first batch, then using a little homemade yoghurt as the starter for the next batch, etc.). If you strain the yoghurt through a tea towel over a bowl, you get Greek yoghurt. If you strain it even longer, it turns to labneh (a cheese). So every 5 or 6 days I make a batch of yoghurt.

anothermadamebutterfly · 02/04/2016 21:47

lougle that sounds really interesting. I actually remember my mum used to strain bought yoghurt in that way to make a sort of labneh-type thicker yoghurt when I was a kid, as it was difficult to buy it in shops. I guess this is the same principle. The instant pot looks amazing - I followed the link you posted and then googled it a bit and it sounds as if you could almost do away with the stove if you have one! Can you seriously make cakes in it??

Auntie it feels good to officially not be overweight, no? I have been trying on some of my summer clothes, and they already fit better than they did a month ago.

Hope everybody is having a good weekend! I seem to be spending too much of it ferrying the kids around, but with this nice weather I don't mind too much.

readyforsunshine · 02/04/2016 22:33

I went through a phase of yoghurt making, you've reminded me, Thanks you'll save me a fortune! I've been eating skyr, it's lovely & I believe it's higher protein but lower fat than Greek, but I haven't actually looked into it, just been suckered in by the fact it's a fairly new foodie thing! Took it with me with seeds & berries for late bfast today then had an apple. Tonight was early jacket potato with avocado, tomato & crispy bacon. I really fancied a blt so it was better than that!
Hinky I found it really tough when mine were little, sleep deprivation is a killer. You've done well to hardly put on over Easter Smile

Floppityflop · 03/04/2016 11:19

Been at it two weeks and not lost a thing. I'm hoping it will come off in a lump. I'm not sure I'll make much progress over the next few weeks. I have little time to exercise as I'm so busy at work and also studying, so I'll be happy with a slower weight loss until after my exams.

Floppityflop · 03/04/2016 11:21

PS, my Lindor egg is in the shed!

runningLou · 04/04/2016 08:35

So gutted, Monday morning weigh in and I have GAINED 2lbs since last Wednesday. Devastated. This always happens when I start a diet. Was good yesterday as well. My only excuse is that AF is due so am hoping it's water retention so will hope to see a change next week.
Just had my muesli. Felt like a teeny portion. Got a 10 mile cycle today as well.
