It's day 7 for me and I have found that adding 1 whole apple improves the flavour of the juices and eating the occasional apple or stick of celery quelled my hunger and the desire to snack after 7.00pm. Overall, I am pleased with the weight loss of 4.5 pounds, but I think it would be difficult to incorporate this diet into my lifestyle because the amount of planning and preparation is onerous, but perhaps smaller changes are possible? Could I try to keep the juices in my diet or reduce the amount of bread and processes food or put together some recipes that use more Sirt foods. Although I'm not sure this would be a good weight loss plan, rather an attempt to eat more healthily.

chickenlips · 12/01/2016 08:57

As others have said I'm really grateful for this thread because I don't have anyone I know in real life doing this diet - although my husband is supportive in theory he would never in his life do a diet nor would my 4 kids ages 16-22 - a big part of our life is eating out and cooking together so it has felt quite lonely in my family :(

I'm on Day 8 and although I've been weighed on the warehouse scales at work these aren't that accurate so don't have much to go on in terms of actual weight lost. According to them the loss was about 4.5 lbs in 6 days. But I have definitely lost inches around my waist, all my work suits that were really tight and digging in before Xmas are a good fit if not loose, and I feel really healthy and fit, have been sleeping well and have enjoyed almost all of the food. (I have got spots though which considering I'm 50 is quite annoying!!!) I'm on the first day of the maintenance phase and made the smoothie this morning it was absolutely gorgeous and am sure it will keep me going until lunch. Am planning to follow the schedule in the book for the next 2 weeks as much as possible because I'd like to get back to more of my normal exercise routine, have dropped a little particularly on days 1-3 because I knew I'd be starving with only one meal a day (although I have managed yoga, swimming and some walking). Even with 2 meals a day I did feel hungry for quite considerable periods - I think I do have a blood sugar imbalance as I've always been someone who needs to eat regularly otherwise get very weak/lightheaded/headachy so perhaps thats just my metabolism.

It will be interesting to see if the weight continues to come off in the maintenance phase - I will post again to let you know!

In terms of juicers/Nutribullets I think you need both. I bought a Philips juicer from amazon and it is extremely effective. You need the NutriBullet to make the smoothies. Obviously depends on how committed you are to long term changes ( I think I am after this week's experience) Good luck everyone and well done for making it this far.....

Chicken lips I tried feeding the baked chicken and rocket salad to my partner and my son last night because I was fed up with cooking two different things . I did them some sweet potato wedges too . They hated the parsley pesto and the vinegar onions . Tbh so did I !
I have lost 5 pounds this morning - having started half way through last Monday and despite a day off on Saturday for afternoon tea so I am quite happy with that.
I am going to proceed with fruit and fat free yoghurt for brekki ( maybe some of those buckwheat puffs !) and maybe just salmon and veg .. Stuff like that for dinner plus some of the juice .. For the next couple of weeks which I sure will get rid if the last few pounds I need and then maintain it hopefully , although I am off to Iceland at the end of next week .... But life has to go on. At least my tummy is nice and flat now!

AbsolutelyLovely · 12/01/2016 14:31

I'm on day 4 and am thrilled to have dropped 4 pounds!!
I had tried the regime half-heartedly after reading the Times piece but I didn't have a juicer and so it seemed pointless to continue.
So I bought the book and I got a Philips Juicer half price at Sainsburys.
I have to say it's hard going (how much kale does it take to make some juice?!!) and I am starving most of the time BUT it really does work.
I am doing Couch to 5k as well and am amazed to still be able to run.
So to lose so much weight while feeling energetic and healthy is pretty incredible.
I'm definitely going for the maintenance plan afterwards...will come back with an update after day 7 .....

Purplepants5 · 12/01/2016 17:23

is anyone thinking of doing Week 1 again? I am nearing the end of my first week and am about 4lbs down. Im nervous of moving onto the Phase 2 as I still have 2 stone to lose!

Bostin · 12/01/2016 20:21

Am seriously considering 1 juice and 2 meals a day.

Tryingtocatchup1 · 12/01/2016 21:05

Purplepants, that's exactly what I'd been wanting to ask on this thread all day but between work, kids, making green juice and following the damned recipies the day has flown! So pleased you've said that - I'm on day 7 too and initial good weight loss has gone the other way since day 4 (though admit feel thinner!). I'd been wavering tonight but think I may do at least days 1 and 2 and then see if I can manage the 3rd day of 3 juices 😁😳! I am out of rocket though - disaster!!!!

Tsoski1110 · 12/01/2016 23:20

I'm impressed that you found the recipe for a juice using the nutri ninja. I used the nutri ninja for the first 2 days with the recipe for the juice. And it was tough going.
I even have the book and it doesn't mention anywhere how to make your sirt juice with a blender as opposed to a juicer.
The food is great though.

artifarti · 13/01/2016 09:55

Day Seven finished and 4.5lb lost, which I am pretty happy with, especially considering I swapped all the meals about and (shock, horror) scrapped the juice three days ago. I'm going to go on to the maintenance but also use some recipes from the other book I have and keep an eye on portion sizes, some of which seem a bit enormous.

I made my juices with a blender - you can push it through a sieve afterwards. But it was a total faff, which is why I gave up doing it!

Urbanmumma · 13/01/2016 10:36

Dropped 4lbs so far in 3 days... and feel incredible. Was filled with dread at the thought of dieting as I love food and have been eating like a pig for past year. Was expecting the worst but delighted to say my appetite is surpressed, have a total surge in energy and my skin looks great. Was expecting headaches due detox process but nothing so far.
I know it's eairly days but have never felt so good on a new diet in the early stages, usually it's brutal but feel like I'm glowing (inside and out) after such a short time! Definitely sticking with it.... 😊

sequin2000 · 13/01/2016 11:56

I completed week 1 with a 7lb loss so decided to repeat week 1 in a greedy attempt to lose another 7 quickly. Unfortunately I am on day 3 now and have lost less than a pound! Will persevere but I think the juice is disgusting and other than the day 1 prawn meal I'm not a fan of the meals either, far too many flavours for me. I've got a cupboard full of buckwheat products so need to use them up but them I may resort to myfitnesspal calorie counting and hope the initial 7lb stays off.

JoanyB17 · 13/01/2016 18:41

So into my second week I am adapting the diet . Am sticking with two meals but with the odd Apple if I get hungry. I had the muesli recipe for brekki - got to use up those tasteless puffs and flakes somehow!
For dinner I am having a chicken breast fried with turmeric . Buckwheat cooked in vegetable stock ... Sooooo must tastier that cooked in water and turmeric. And a salad of rocket tomatoes celery and red onion - all good sirt foods ... With a dash of lighter than light Helmans mayo on the side ... No more yukky capers for me. It's tasty , filling , much easier to prepare and a good way forward for me 😀

Anyone tried the sirtfood diet?
Tryingtocatchup1 · 13/01/2016 20:28

Fieldgate, I cannot thank you enough for your advice to get the nutmilk bag, I have spent 7 days drinking nutribullet sludge despite being sieved, and this bag has transformed it into water consistency - it's a treat to drink now after that! I'm on day 1 again now and am hoping to see a change now I'm not eating all that fibre I shouldn't have eaten last week! Just under 4lb loss after the 7 days though which I'm really pleased with. Tried the children with the prawn stir fry tonight but seems they are still inexplicably scared of prawns -dammit! Love this thread though, it's keeping me going - thanks all.

Purplepants5 · 13/01/2016 22:39

Thank you for the inside info Sequin2000. I think I will try the maintenance phase then as the first week is quite tough. I hate the juice, even though I have got used to it. It's smell and flavour is overpowering. Also I agree with the person who says the recipes are a bit over flavoured, capers, red onion, turmeric and kale? All under one roof? No thanks. Think it's time to develop our own recipes....

BlueHisqmt · 14/01/2016 07:57

I took the plunge and started week one again, I am now on day 3 or day 10. The good news is that is seems to work and I have lost another 2 pounds and I hope that by the end of the week it will be 4.5 pounds like the previous week. I have stuck to the juices, but like JoanyB17 I have started to be more creative with the recipes. A carrot added to the stirfry can't be terrible and I even had a glass of wine. I am a bit tired of kale and added some spinach as well.

H3l3naGraham · 14/01/2016 12:21

Invested in a Salter Nutripro 1,000, saw it on a BBC2 programme as an effective cheap blender/juicer - it was on sale in the Original Factory Shop for 39.00 & is producing a smooth liquid with no lumps, but have had to make it in batches adding just a little water. I am basing the diet upon what was published in the Times & Good Housekeeping as the book which I ordered nearly 2 weeks ago, still hasn't arrived.... Whatever I do, I seem to be making gallons of the green-goo, it says with the correct measures of ingredients it should be close to 250ml, but I get a pint every time even with just a dribble of water & my goodness it is hard to swallow. I love my veggies & have eaten kale for years but my Exorcist reflex is kicking in & I have to try very hard not to projectile vomit across the kitchen...... I simply cannot get 3 juices a day down my throat, but can just about swallow 2, and am hoping this won't impact the results too much. Washing capers does help 'weaken' their flavour but my pet hate is chicory, so I have substituted broccoli instead, which features on many sites as a SIRT-rich food. The 5:2 diet had lots of online forums with assistance from medical types, really wish this diet did as I don't think I'm the only one who would like guidance on food substitutions and the like! Onwards & downwards, with any luck!!!

H3l3naGraham · 14/01/2016 12:38

forgot this sorry, a good site with a list of Sirtuin Activator foods is www.gmouton.com, he's Dr and posted it up in May 2014, might help people who want to substitute certain foods

rosie9111 · 14/01/2016 13:05

I started on Monday, and to be honest, I'm not keen on many of the recipes in the book ( I can't stand fish/seafood buckwheat or noodles),so I've been scouring the internet for Kale recipes..There are quite a few out there with some other sirtfoods in them .i.e. chillies ,so i've been using my own variations and eating chicken for protein. I also made a really tasty Kale apple and walnut soup ,as that's perfect for lunch. Here's the link www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/kale-apple-soup-walnuts-0
The frog juice is manageable, but think i'll get the gag reflex if I have to drink much more!
Thanks to everyone on this thread,it's really helpful

H3l3naGraham · 14/01/2016 14:20

what a lovely recipe for a cold winter's day, thank you Rosie9111, I am making the soup now with the addition of some SIRT rich garlic & parsley and no apple crisps!!

Lullabelle89 · 14/01/2016 21:10

So, I've been doing the Sirtfood diet since Monday 4th Jan (of course I started on a Monday), and so far so fantastic! The first day of three juices I was really hungry but by the second day I felt full after drinking the juices and couldn't finish all my meal in the evening. I found the flavour of the juice a bit overpowering so now I water it down slightly and add a bit of fresh ginger which I prefer the flavour of to the kale. I started off at 9 stone 12 and am down to 9 stone 9 now. Although this isn't a big weight loss, I've lost three inches from my hips! I feel so much less bloated, but fully satisfied at every meal and don't feel any hunger pangs around 9pm any more, even though I've brought our evening meal time forward to 6pm instead of 7:30. I've bought the Sirt Diet book which has some great recipes in and I've found all of them to be tasty and very generous with the portions. I haven't found the foods themselves to be overly expensive to buy and the only problem I've currently got is finding space in the fridge for such huge bags of kale! Now in anticipation of over-eating at Christmas, I started running with a friend mid-December and could manage to do 3 miles with a few stops for a walk to catch my breath. I've been out on five runs since then each getting slightly longer and yesterday I went out and ran 10.62 miles with NO STOPS! Now I know that doing more exercise has helped with the fitness, obviously, but I'm 100% certain that adding these foods into my diet has boosted my energy levels tenfold. I no longer have the 4pm cake and nap craving and feel generally happier and healthier and fitter than I ever have! I've done quite a few fad diets and attribute my post-baby weight-loss to the Dukan diet, but none have felt sustainable until now. I don't feel like I've just changed my diet, I feel as though I've changed my life and I SIRTainly won't be falling back into my old habits any time soon! Smile

Spinning123 · 15/01/2016 22:27

So I'm on day one of the Sirt food diet and I can't believe all the kale !!! Trying to be positive but hope this will help my fibromyalgia and loose weight. Finding it hard to find buckwheat flakes for the muesli. I have a headache today but think the chocolate will help. Roll on day 2 !!!!!

chickenlips · 16/01/2016 08:26

I'm nearly into the end of the second week and have stuck to it 100% through last week, now its the weekend was invited to a friends house last night so it slipped then. My experience has been that the maintenance phase is great in terms of what you can eat and not feeling hungry at all, however I don't feel as though I'm losing much weight this week. I don't have scales at home, yes my clothes are looser and I feel better but I'm a little concerned that I will not continue losing weight. I'm not that overweight anyway (about 10.4) but could really do with dropping another dress size as I have a wardrobe full of business suits that are too tight:(

Am also considering doing the first week again as some others have said - will continue until the end of the three weeks and see how it goes then. Some of the food in the third week is going to make me put on weight I'm sure (pancakes in chocolate sauce? pizza??) - all sounds great but at the end of the day I put weight on really easily so will probably swap those out for something les calorific!!

IrritableBitchSyndrome · 16/01/2016 21:51

Starting tomorrow. Made lots of green juice, read the book, good to go!

IrritableBitchSyndrome · 16/01/2016 21:53

I haven't rtft - anyone managed to find a source of lovage?

H3l3naGraham · 16/01/2016 22:32

my greengrocer just looked at me blankly when I asked about lovage.. he suggested that fresh herbs were best sourced in the spring/summer. fine. but isn't kale a more winter/autumn veggie? so not sure how sourcing all this food all works out without a hothouse in the garden....am just using celery leaves as suggested as an alternative! Have bought a nut milk bag as recommended on this thread as simply cannot stomach the green compost which my blender produces much longer......
