So I've finished day 2 and it's been interesting, think the meal didn't need so much turmeric , bit to much !!! Is anyone having to go to the loo a lot, the greens are going straight through me, sorry to be so blunt but I have IBS and not sure if I can do 3 juices anymore , roll on day 3 but think I'll cut down on one juice, any ideas ? Confused

IrritableBitchSyndrome · 16/01/2016 23:03

Maybe I should start a lovage growing operation Smile

Igneococcus · 17/01/2016 08:36

I have a massive lovage plant in my garden but it has died back for the winter, it comes back every year reliably but not until early spring. I doubt it's popular enough for a commercial grower to grow it over winter.

H3l3naGraham · 17/01/2016 10:54

Well the nut milk bag certainly works, it has thinned down the green slurry magnificently I can drink it now without wanting to be sick......I just need to book a kitchen redecoration after 5 days on this diet, have managed to stain the work surface with tumeric & got the green slime from the nut milk bag everywhere..... need another shower, I even have it in my hair somehow. I will look up Lovage seeds on the web & start growing some in my garden, anything annual gets top marks in my book!

IrritableBitchSyndrome · 17/01/2016 11:30

Day 1. Quite enjoyed the green juice for brunch, already eaten the 20g dark chocolate (which should have been part of the meal so have already cheated, but it's so coooold, and I'm hungry...) Looking forward to the prawn and buckwheat noodles.

JoanyB17 · 17/01/2016 12:29

IrritableBitchSyndrome When you cook the buckwheat noodles - a tip ... Plunge them into cold water after boiling to get rid of the starch - then add them to the stir fry fish to heat up . This prevents them going all clumped and soggy which mine did ! I did the research after !!!

H3l3naGraham · 17/01/2016 12:49

irritableBitchSyndrome: I sympathise, by the time all the ingredients had arrived the weather had turned for me as well, I have been drinking lots of fresh ginger tea (squeezed a piece of ginger in a garlic press) and mint tea as well (nicer with fresh mint leaves) to curb any hunger pangs. Also I have had my 1st juice as late as possible every morning ie 10.00ish which also helps. Good luck!

H3l3naGraham · 17/01/2016 12:51

Spinning123 - you won't be the only one having 2 juices a day instead of 3, I ended up doing that along with some other less hardcore people on this thread. I just chewed on the apple & celery instead....

Spinning123 · 17/01/2016 13:21

H3l3naGraham:thanks for the reply, added a while Apple instead of half today, on the plus side lost 4 pounds and it's day 3, feel good but still head aches , roll on day 4

IrritableBitchSyndrome · 17/01/2016 14:03

I cooked the noodles in LOTS of water, which seemed to work well. The meal was delicious, but my poor body is already sitting up and taking notice! As a PP mentioned, that green juice really does travel remarkably fast through one's digestive system Confused. Feeling generally brain foggy and fluey. Currently curled up on sofa feeling sorry for self whilst watching cbeebies with very bouncy toddler. However, it's the last week of my cycle, when calorie requirements are up to 500 kcal higher than at other times, and I have an underlying condition that causes fatigue and adrenal fatigue/oversensitivity, and IBS so my poor body was always likely to over react. On the plus side, I'm supposed to be resting an injured knee today, and now I have to as I'm too knackered to move! Smile

IrritableBitchSyndrome · 17/01/2016 15:00

Hmmm. Would the other posters on this thread have been buying up buckwheat products, perhaps? Holland and Barrett and Ocado are all sold out of puffs and flakes Smile

JoanyB17 · 17/01/2016 15:23

I have come to the conclusion that only the first week of this diet works, that it makes some people - including me feel headachy and unwell , and that you need to stick to it rigidly. Some of the Sirtfood ingredients are high in calories - eg the muesli and I suspect that certain other ingredients are the skinny gene releasing ones eg the nasty kale and capers etc .... So they work together . If we just pick out the bits we like then they won't work . I think weeks 2 and beyond are too much food . I think that the juice is a diuretic ... Maybe that's why there is a big weight loss !

Anyway I lost 5 pounds . Quite happy with that but having had a day eating the muesli and then chicken , buckwheat and ordinary veg - I put a pound on .
So am dropping the nasty buckwheat flakes and back to special k and strawberries for brekki and things like salmon and veg for dinner - filling but low calorie ! Hoping to lose my last few pounds that way. If I never see another caper again I will be a happy woman !

H3l3naGraham · 17/01/2016 16:40

5 days in & I have only dropped 1 & 1/2 lbs, not impressed but am going to stick at it for 3 weeks & see what the longer term result is. Mind you, muscle weighs more than fat, but just like my so-called 'skinny-gene' my muscles seem to have gone walk-about......

Roysjoy · 17/01/2016 17:08

Going to use my nutribullet...fibre has to be good and will reduce hunger pangs

H3l3naGraham · 18/01/2016 08:43

Hi Roysjoy, my Salter Nutripro 1000 is like a Nutribullet & I am wondering if that's why I have only dropped 1.5lbs in 5 days? If only the diet book would arrive (2 weeks & still waiting) so that I can look this up properly...... I started to use a nut milk bag yesterday in the hope that leaving the fibre behind might make a difference. Has anyone got the book please who could advise, what I have read in mags etc says specifically juice, not smoothie which is what my machine has left me with?

IrritableBitchSyndrome · 18/01/2016 09:58

Removing the fibre from the greens makes the particular compounds in the greens much easier to absorb, hence juicing.

H3l3naGraham · 18/01/2016 09:59

Thank you IrritableBitchSyndrome, very hepful!

IrritableBitchSyndrome · 18/01/2016 14:44

Day 2 - the green juice is nice today, and not having any unfortunate digestive effects. I slept much better than usual, having eaten earlier. I was really starving yesterday, but not at all hungry today. There was a gutting incident involving a large glass of green juice, a toddler and a beige carpet. There was swearing. DH spent his lunch hour testing the vax carpet washer. (It was great!). Due to a lack of both capers and turkey, todays meal is spicy cauli cous cous with pan fried cod in tomato, sage and chilli. It's pretty odd, if I'm honest Smile

IrritableBitchSyndrome · 18/01/2016 14:46

You're most welcome H3l3na. I got the book via kindle so am happy to look anything else up if required?

IrritableBitchSyndrome · 18/01/2016 15:01

H3l3na - depending on what your work surface is made from, you might be able to shift the tumeric by scrubbing with an old toothbrush dipped in bleach or white vinegar, and some bicarb sprinkled on to the stain. Has worked for me in the past. Good luck! The green stuff gets everywhere even with a juicer. I keep finding bits of kale fibre everywhere like christmas tree needles.

IrritableBitchSyndrome · 18/01/2016 15:15

The use of juices and whole food is an integral part of the Sirtfood Diet. Juices give maximum bang for your buck by packing in a super-concentrated amount of Sirtfoods into an ultra-easy and convenient way to consume them. Having some of your Sirtfoods in the form of a juice can also have big advantages when it comes to absorbing their goodness. For example, one of the ingredients we include in the green juice is matcha green tea. When we consume the sirtuin activator EGCG, found in high levels in green tea, in drink form without food its absorption is more than 65 per cent higher85. Yet eating whole food has definite advantages too. Many Sirtfoods contain significant amounts of what are called non-extractable polyphenols (or NEPPs). These are polyphenols, including sirtuin activators, which are attached to the fibrous part of the food, and are only released when broken down by our friendly gut bacteria. As juicing removes the fibre from our food, if we relied on it alone, we would lose out on all those valuable NEPPs. The key is to get the best of both worlds by combining the two. Vegetables like leafy greens have low levels of NEPPs so are much more suitable for concentrating through juicing, whereas other higher fibre Sirtfoods are more appropriate for eating whole and enjoying as part of your meals. There are few rules for when you have to consume the juices and meals. Ultimately their consumption needs to fit in with your day-to-day life, however, a few simple rules of thumb for the best outcome are: •It’s better to spread the juices out throughout the day, rather than having them too close together. •The green juices should be consumed at least an hour before or two hours after meals. •Meals or juices should not be consumed later than 7pm.

You are a star IrritableBitchSyndrome, are you a chemist as well...? otherwise you must be super-speedy at typing to copy all that down, thank you so much. I have had a go with the remains of one of the inummearble lemons I am blitzing on the turmeric stain and it worked. RESULT. I can imagine that the air must have been blue (to match the new green carpet pattern) when your toddler made contact with your juice.......

IrritableBitchSyndrome · 18/01/2016 16:41

The joy of kindle H3l3na... 'copy', 'paste'. No idea where the rogue '85' came from... must be a footnote in the text. Once the green juice was successfully removed from the beige carpet, my DH said 'I was impressed that you didn't shout'. I was feeling guilty for muttering oh ffs in the toddler's earshot, while she said 'Sorry Mummy, was a accident. I didn't mean to do it!' Hard to maintain much crossness in the face of contrite childhood cuteness and attractive husbandly competence though, tbh. DH is at his sexiest when looking a bit stern and brandishing a hoover. Also, got to try out carpet washer Smile

H3l3naGraham · 18/01/2016 20:06

Just had the miso cod recipe, goodness that's the saltiest dish I have ever eaten. Mainlining water now, will need to adapt the recipe next time I cook it, have Saharan thirst......

IrritableBitchSyndrome · 18/01/2016 20:36

H3l3na - useful to know. I will bear that in mind when I get to it and go very easy on the miso!
