Thanks bostin for the juice explanation.
And thanks everybody else for the shopping recommendations.

You can find roasted buckwheat in any Polish food shop. I wouldn't call it our staple food but it's very popular and sold as kasza gryczana.

antimatter · 07/01/2016 08:22

The full name is "kasza gryczana prażona"

JoanyB17 · 07/01/2016 08:23

Chicken lips I have had a headache too since I started - I am just starting day 4...hoping it will go today after brekki. Must try to drink more water .
I am using the normal buckwheat - not roasted . I simmered some last night in water with a little turmeric for day three recipe and it was actually really nice - bit like a nutty couscous. I can see myself using it in salads etc in the future.
I have just weighed - three pounds lost so am quite pleased

chickenlips · 07/01/2016 08:59

Thanks Joany for tips on buckwheat - thats on the menu for tonight so fingers crossed. Interesting re headache. Still got it this morning and have been mainlining paracetamol which somehow doesn't seem right if this is supposed to be healthy!!! Am off to work in a mo hope it won't worsen as will be a very tough day to get through otherwise :( :( on plus side have definitely lost weight. Scales broke and am not overly fussed about weighing but can tell from how I look and fit of clothes.

Igneococcus · 07/01/2016 09:13

I bought the Aldi slow juicer!!! I'm so excited, I can't wait to get home and try it I out.

sequin2000 · 07/01/2016 09:21

Hi all, I am on day 4 and loved the prawns, hated the turkey with cauliflower (turmeric on the cauliflower tasted like powder and the large amount of different flavours was overfacing). I can't bear the green juice so I have been having 2 a day rather than 3 (in a nutribullet it is impossible for me to drink, juice is better but still disgusting and is a hassle to make). The book says to get matcha green tea from Japan due to pollutants in China if you are being extra strict and apparently ordinary grade is better than the ceremonial. Amazon have most ingredients. The headaches are likely caused by caffeine withdrawal so keep drinking coffee (preferably black but I am sticking with milk). I have coped with hunger but do have the will power for a strict diet when I get going. 5lb down in 3 days, will be interesting to see if it goes back on quickly.

Bostin · 07/01/2016 09:24

No problem Igneococcus.

I am glad to be on day 4 and allowed to eat 2 meals and less juicing! I think I have consumed about 4 bags of kale in 3 days.
I do find the cooking a bit labour intensive, I will have to be more organised next week when all the after school clubs start up again. I am enjoying the meals though and portion sizes a are great.
I am 7lbs down and although I know a lot of that was water retention I am pretty chuffed!

gypsysoul · 07/01/2016 10:20

Hi there, this is my first time on Mumsnet and I'm so pleased to find this chat. I started the diet on Tuesday so today is day 3 - so relieved to read others have had 48 hour headaches because so have I - still got it! Also feel very nauseous, not helped by that thick juice. I also feel lacking in energy - I guess the energy boost comes in the longer term. But I don't feel hungry which is good, and the meals are lovely and big too. I got matcha tea in tea bags from Waitrose and then just cut them open - don't know if that's 'allowed' but hope so. Also I couldn't find Lindt Chocolate so got 85% chocolate from M&S which is very nice. I've lost 2lbs already which is great. Just wish i could get rid of the headache.

Purplepants5 · 07/01/2016 10:21

Hi everyone, so happy to find this discussion as there isnt that much online about this diet. I am on Day 4 and have lost about 4 lbs so far. The juicing is an issue for my as my juicer wont juice and greens so I juice the apple and celery then blend all the other greens and sieve them before adding to the apple and celery juice. Its more palatable than trying to blend the whole thing up and then ending up picking bits of kale out of your teeth all day!
As for the meals, does anyone know if it is ok to swap them around? I have stuck to them rigidly so far but hated the buckwheat and chicken last night so much that they made me feel like giving up. Luckily this mornings sirt muesli was delicious so I feel reinvigorated. So let me know if meal swapping is ok in the first week? Also cannot handle walnuts at all so have been eating tamari roasted almonds instead.... bad idea?

Bostin · 07/01/2016 10:22

I have been swapping the meals around and it has still worked for me.

gypsysoul · 07/01/2016 10:32

I won't be able to have the walnuts as i have nut allergy - any ideas what would be a good sub anyone?

Purplepants5 · 07/01/2016 10:38

Imagine that just upping another sirtuin rich food will be your best bet, maybe capers as they are one of the best

Igneococcus · 07/01/2016 12:00

gipsysoul the sirtuin regulator in walnut seems to be polyphenols like ellagic acids which is also found in berries, so maybe eat more strawberries or black currants.

JoanyB17 · 07/01/2016 12:15

I don't think the tea bag option is right - it's blended and only has a tiny amount of matcha powder - so gypsysoul I think you'll need to get the powder.
i quite liked the breakfast this morning although my buckwheat puffs hadn't arrived so I had to do all flakes - which are a bit like sawdust- but it was very filling. I asked on the Facebook page for the sirt food diet if I could just keep having the muesli each day but they said you have to stick to the menus to get the correct variation of sirt foods.

Miloarmadillo1 · 07/01/2016 13:28

gypsysoul I bought teabags I thought were matcha and when I read it properly it's only 2%, the rest is a green tea blend. Green tea is still a sirt food though so will drink them, but maybe not the ideal thing for adding to the green juice. you can buy matcha powder online it is expensive though!

Day Two for me! Really bored of kale already but not finding it too hard overall. I had the tofu option last night which was...interesting. I also bought this book from WHSmith; it has lots more recipes in it based on SIRT foods and isn't obsessed with green drinks so I think will be more useful in the long-term: www.amazon.co.uk/Sirt-Diet-Cookbook-Jacqueline-Whitehart/dp/0008163367/ref=pd_sim_14_2?ie=UTF8&dpID=51tzkJqbtXL&dpSrc=sims&preST=AC_UL160_SR105%2C160&refRID=1VK5PKP4MQC4AF38NHW0

Looking forward to seeing how it goes for everyone.

Iobaby · 07/01/2016 15:07

Thanks tryingtocatchup1, I seem to have bounced back a bit, just waiting for promised energy to arrive! As my flakes and puffs haven't arrived, I had the tabbouleh for lunch (using plain buckwheat I think-only bag in whole of town!!). It was really tasty and filling. I ate the strawberries and dates as pudding, and think I will struggle to manage another meal tonight, especially without hunger motivating me to cook myself a different supper to what the rest of the family are having.
It is exciting ( and inspiring) to see that everyone is getting results and seems positive, although I hope the headaches and nausea stop soon for those suffering.
I was 4 pounds down after 2 days, and struggled a bit yesterday. I ate 3days worth of dark chocolate as hadn't realised I could have it before, and added milk to multiple coffees to get me though, but am back on track today.
The scales hovered, but didn't drop this morning, so fingers crossed for tmrw. Keep up the good work everyone😊

HumphreyCobblers · 07/01/2016 20:32

Hello everyone

My headaches stopped after 48 hours. I have been doing this since Saturday, but I have not stuck rigidly to the diet plan as I have continued to eat four juices and have just one meal until today. I don't weigh myself but have definitely noticed looser clothes.

I made the parsley, walnut and parmesan pesto tonight. Wasn't that keen to be honest, I would rather eat all those ingredients separately than blended together.

JoanyB17 · 07/01/2016 21:37

Day four for me ... I had the salmon with caramelised chicory tonight which was yummy ( presentation in pic not great sorry ). Salad was nice too but I really hated the caper dressing . Headache fading thank goodness! Just enjoyed my 20g chocolate and a cup of decaf coffee as my daily treat Smile

sequin2000 · 07/01/2016 22:00

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the chocolate is only allowed on days 1-3!

Iobaby · 07/01/2016 22:06

Noooo-I didn't eat chocolate on days 1+2, made up for it on day 3, and carefully weighed 15g today (day 4). I am following the Sunday times thing, and now you mention it, there was no chocolate in today's pic, yet it was there in days 1-3. Clearly need to work on my spot the difference skills!!

JoanyB17 · 07/01/2016 22:59

Sequin2000
Omg ?? Nooooo!! Sad too late now

Swifey · 08/01/2016 01:17

We (dh and I) are starting this today and have bought a nutri-bullet exactly for doing this. I don't think I'll have the time, nor the inclination to sieve out the pulp. Will the diet still work?

Bostin · 08/01/2016 07:07

I'm confused. I can't find no mention of dark chocolate beyond day 3 (although cacao nibs appear on day 4). They can't tout this on the back of chocolate and then only let you have it on the first 3 days!
