I have 10 stone to lose overall. There, I said it. No going back now. I miss riding my horse, I miss being happy and I have a toddler that doesn't want a sweaty elephant for a mum.
Anyone want to join me for some moral support?

Can anyone point me in the right direction for trying low-carb? Not tried it before... apart from the odd day here and there... so not sure where to start. Is there a guide to the limits we should try to stick to and/or a guide to how many carbs are in raw foods e.g. potato?

AuntyBatshit · 03/01/2016 13:24

I've joined the group too. Like a pp I've struggled with bulimia, and this is my year to get it under control and face it once and for all. Now, a stupid question. I'm off for a mammoth gym session today, so my weight will be heavier tomorrow, right? And does anyone else ever experience this?

SquadGoals · 03/01/2016 13:27

Saoirse, there's a couple of low carb boards on here. One is general low carb diet and the other is a bootcamp.

Both have great ideas, recipes and support. I think there is another bootcamp starting in a couple of weeks, so there's enough time to prep and read up on it before it starts.

I lost about 3kg in 2 weeks before Christmas low carbing and DH lost 5kg in a month. We both had time off over Christmas but back on it from now on. We've stuck to about 50g of carbs per day with very little difficulty and using Fitbit to record everything.

General principle is to only get your carbs from veg - mainly leafy greens etc, with a lot of protein and high fat. It's a great WOE as you get to eat steak, cheese, cream etc so doesn't feel like a typical diet.

Today I have eaten:
Eggs and spinach for breakfast
Tuna mayo salad for dinner
Salmon stir fry for tea.

Thank you SquadGoals

Probably should have mentioned that I am a veggie and don't eat dairy Blush
I eat a lot of fruit and veg, but I also got into habit of having a lot of pasta and potatoes.

I'll have a look for those threads though, so thanks a million for sharing the info

SaoirseLikeInertia · 03/01/2016 13:34

Watching Fed Up on Netflix. It would put you off eating ANYTHING

AuntyBatshit · 03/01/2016 13:34

Just realised I've probably just outed myself on the group. Meh- no matter!

Kobrakid · 03/01/2016 13:58

Hi, late to the party but sent a request. Need to lose around 5st to be bmi healthy. Last year was just a shitty year all round so the weight has just crept on. I do next to no exercise and eat nothing but crap, far too much bread and potatoes so I'm hoping that healthy eating and DVDs at home will kick start things. I've never joined a group before but I need motivation. Got a holiday in August and would love to be a couple of stone down by then.

TheOnlyPink · 03/01/2016 14:11

I'm a strict meal planner, regardless of dieting, so have my food in until Wed, when I start slimming world again. Really want all the Christmas stuff gone by then! Not a huge amount left though.

Really looking forward to getting started. Feeling so positive about it this time. Any other time I've tried to lose weight, it's always been a bit "I suppose I should, I'm fat, it's what fat people do" but this time, it's more a case of wanting to be slimmer, healthier and feel better.

Hope everyone is having a good start to the year!

CharleyDavidson · 03/01/2016 15:34

I've bought a slimline calendar to hang in the kitchen. We rarely remember to write things on a paper calendar and I prefer my phone/google calendar etc for actual day to day events, but I'm going to use the calendar as a food planner and record in plain view what I'm planning to cook day by day.

I don't do a strict plan, but do think a few meals ahead and take use by dates into account. DH comes home earlier than me most days and sometimes cooks for the kids before I'm home, so I build a couple of days leeway into what I've planned. E.g. I have meals in the freezer or fridge that only I like and if he's made something that they all like I use it as a good excuse to grab something that they'd turn their noses up at.

Ginmakesmecry · 03/01/2016 16:11

Please can I join? I've got 2.5 stone to lose, ideally I'd like to lose a stone by the 12th of March. I'd like to low carb as it the only thing that really works for me.

FattyNinjaOwl · 03/01/2016 16:17

I bought a meal planner and shopping list thing from wilkos. Has magnets on it so it sticks to the fridge.

DramaAlpaca · 03/01/2016 17:45

Wow this thread is busy!

So far I've cut out the booze, started drinking more water and been taking the dogs for lots of lovely walks.

Went shopping today & filled the fridge with healthy stuff. There's still too much Christmas stuff left in the house though. I'll send it back with student DS to get rid of it, I think.

minnymoobear · 03/01/2016 17:59

Can I join you pls :)
Have around 4 stone to lose- weighed in at 14 stone this morning and it's got to go! I am 5'5 and about to hit 41 years young - need to get this shifted!
First goal is 10lbs by Valentine's Day
Plan is more water
Less junk
Walking at lunchtime at work and start running- will be signing up to a 5 k this year to keep me focussed! Gonna take my teenage boys with me - God help us all!!

Fit bit is now down to £50 on Amazon and have a tenner gift card so gonna go for it and get one to help me along

Good luck to us all!

fohamy12 · 03/01/2016 18:04

Just wondering if anyone finds fitbit or any dieting/healthy eating app useful for aiding weight loss.....because I get obsessive about losing weight I don't know if these would do more harm than good!

Any suggestions?!

Poppiesway · 03/01/2016 18:08

I started so well today.. Fruit for breakfast. Had to take ds2 to work with me, then had to work longer so he was hungry.. On way home (I work 40 miles away from home) I stopped at the burger kind drive through and only brought ds2 a burger!! I had nothing 😊 (Bk is a treat as not one in our town).
I did eat some roses as we built the Lego dimensions thing (I hate Lego) and now have sausages and jacket potatoes with baked beans for tea.

Tomorrow is an easy day food wise.. I work a 12 hour shift tomorrow so no snacking and when I'm so late home I only have shredded wheat or something easy for tea :)

Anyway.. I've sent a FB request now the page is closed but searchable again :)

Underdogsbollocks · 03/01/2016 18:24

DramaAlpaca and anyone else who still has left over food, is any of it donatable (sp?) to food banks? We haven't managed to get through all our Christmas food despite my best efforts in the last few days so I have bagged 90% of it up to drop off at tesco this week. Just a thought Smile.

ThinkingBlue · 03/01/2016 19:02

Loving the fb group! Thanks guys for creating such a supportive environment. I know I can do this side by side with others. :-)

DramaAlpaca · 03/01/2016 19:10

Under that's a good idea actually, thanks.

stopfaffing · 03/01/2016 19:13

Natalie and jorah, the problem with the likes of JuicePlus is that not only are they very expensive but that the weight loss is short term plus they are an MLM company and there's a whole 'nuther thread about that Grin.

I will keep it simple using real food; putting less on my plate. I have read somewhere that we eat with our eyes and habitually keep eating until the plate it clean. I would agree that that is one of my issues Hmm. Perhaps using a blindfold might help?

Whatever I do this time, it has to be a permanent long-term change with flexibility for the occasional sweet treat and alcohol. And moving more, that too.

fohamy12 · 03/01/2016 19:19

Ok I know I'm probably being stupid but does anyone know why Facebook won't let me post comments! At the grand age of 42 I am , ahem, a Facebook virgin and only joined for this group!

Please help because my 3 teenage kids won't, sorry,
can't help!

littlepinkgiraffe · 03/01/2016 19:30

This thread and the fb group have been so supportive and I haven't even started yet! Thank you all. Fohamy - can't be much help I'm afraid but possibly try logging out and back in? Otherwise if you have permission to post then I'm clueless.

AuntyBatshit · 03/01/2016 19:30

Can I be added to the spreadsheet please? I can't see it properly on my phone.

Arkkorox · 03/01/2016 19:32

Are we all ready for weigh in one tomorrow?

Good to go!

stopfaffing · 03/01/2016 19:52

I will need to buy a set of scales and want to monitor my body fat percentage. Anyone recommend a set? I have access to Asda, Tesco, Boots.
