Thanks piffle - I just want to lose a bit more (off the tummy and thighs), and be able to say I'm in single figures!!!!

JanZ · 18/06/2004 09:32

I'm jealous . I used be able to be able to lose weight fast like you lot seem to have done - just cut back for a week (especially on the chocolate!) and half a stone would drop off really easily and quickly.

But since I was about 35 (I'm now 43!), it's got progressively more difficult. It's like my body goes into starvation mode at the slightest cut back of its "expected" intake - so every pound is a real struggle.

I keep trying to motivate myself by saying that slow weight loss is more likely to STAY off!

wobblyknicks · 18/06/2004 09:35

janz - if it helps, changing my diet did nothing for me, it didn't help me lose much at all. Exercise is what made me lose the weight - lots of horrible walking, jogging and swimming!!!

Piffleoffagus · 18/06/2004 09:37

This is the first time I have had to diet... I always had a super quick metabolism that disappeared when I had my dd, I think she has it now, skinny minnie...
I will keep trying to lose it, as want to be on the 8st side of 9st rather than the 10st side of it just for the hell of it...

JanZ · 18/06/2004 10:33

Not sure how much extra exercise I can put in - although I am trying to start running again!

I cycle to work every day (34 minutes in total), have a (very) brisk walk into town every day (15-20 minutes each way, so 30-40 minutes total) - so that's over an hour of exercise a day!

As I've mentioned before, have tried to start running again, but been a bit stymied this week by coming down with ds' lurgy, which put paid to Monday and Tuesday, Wednesday was in Reading (6 am flight down!) - but did manange to go to my Pilates class in the evening, and yesterday I went over on my ankle badly in M&S. I MIGHT go for a run this evening - I'll see how my ankle feels after my walk into town at lunchtime.

wobblyknicks · 18/06/2004 16:19

janz - that sounds like enough exercie to me!!! How long have you been trying to lose weight?

champs · 18/06/2004 21:49

wobbly-- a women of 5"8 has the lower limit of 9"6 so 9"8 will be fine.

Piffleoffagus · 19/06/2004 12:06

Success at eating out! I stayed within my ww points as I planned for it!!!
So happy with myself, chose to drive so I only had wine and soda with dinner.
Shared a naughty starter but only had two of each thing, crumbed mushrooms, fried tiger prawns and deep fried camembert etc
For main, I had chicken breast stuffed with monkfish, scallops and tiger prawn, with carrot and orange jus. SIN free!!!
No spuds and points free veg.
Was so full at the end just room for a coffee!
It can be done!!!!!!!!

soph1976 · 19/06/2004 14:10

OK everyone, you all sound like dedicated diet experts, so I need some help. Have 6 week old DD, and weight has been slowly going up rather than down. I want to lose a stone and although I don't mind it being over a period of time, I need to shift the first few pounds fast or I'll lose heart, as I find the lure of the biscuits extremely strong while BF!
Can someone recommend a diet that doesn;t involve having to go to group meetings and things? Just want to get going on my own and start to feel a bit less constricted in my clothes.
Who is "The Codmother" by the way?

codswallop · 20/06/2004 15:39

10 stone 9 lb over the weekend That's half a stone in a month (which answers your question wobblynicks - I've been dieting since the beginning of this thread, which started on 19 May)

I don't ever want to see 4 numbers on the scales again! (Fortunately they don't do half pounds!).

Wasn't particularly dieting over the weekend - but didn't pig out either and kept the alchol consumption down.

Soph1976 - I'm not into group meetings etc and don't even know how to use weightwatcher points (or even how many you can have in a day or hwat different foods are "worth" ). All I've been doing is trying to follow Coddy's principles: have a good and healthy breakfast, cut back the alcohol drastically, up the water intake, and use all the help and support here for motivation. Plus of course Coddy's seargant major bossiness!

Onwards and downwards! !

codswallop · 21/06/2004 09:04

well done janz!

codswallop · 21/06/2004 09:04

'Ow about the rest of you miserable lot?

Piffleoffagus · 21/06/2004 13:44

me too! After very disciplined week...
Am 9st 10lbs after being 10st 2 last week, was on period too, which somehow adds 3lbs!!!
I never intend on seeing 10st again, unless I'm preggers!
I want to get to 9st on the dot...

codswallop · 21/06/2004 13:46

well done EL piffleador

Chuffed · 21/06/2004 14:32

didn't have time to weigh myself at the gym this morning but I think my tum has gone down a bit.

Fizog · 21/06/2004 14:41

Well in my first week I've lost 2lbs... fell off the wagon at the weekend otherwise I think it might have been more.

Welshmum · 21/06/2004 15:12

I've discovered a new way of eating less. Get an enormous mouth ulcer, so bad you that talking hurts and eating anything other than yogurt is impossible. I was 10.7 still this morning owing to weekend naughtiness but I bet I'm less tomorrow. Bloody hurts though

Welshmum · 22/06/2004 08:22

I was right. 10.5

JanZ · 22/06/2004 08:39

10 stone 8 this morning

Only bit of naughtiness yesterday was 2 after eights. Watched ds and dh eat chips while I had a salad, and dh had a glass of wine while I had water.

Nearly time to do my passport photo!

Sonnet · 22/06/2004 11:05

Have had an indulgent weekend and got AF....
so have only lost .5lb since Friday. BUT am now down to 9st2.5lbs - total weightloss 8.5lbs.
Am focused today!!

JanZ · 22/06/2004 11:11

Well done Sonnet!

My total loss is now 8lb. Haven't had a chance to go out running for over a week (but still doing my cycling and brisk walk up in to town) - earliers I'll now be able to get out will be Satruday, as have a fairly full week.

Wearing a trouser suit today that I haven't worn in a while as it had been too tight. It looks (and feels!) OK now

lemonice · 22/06/2004 11:15

Over indulged last night had a tesco ready made curry totally against my plan (and it wasn't that nice and a tub of wine, so will have to wait a day or two to check damage

Fizog · 22/06/2004 11:21

Oooo I'm very excited - I weighed myself again this morning, yesterday I was 11.1 today I am 10.12. So I'm putting yesterdays weight down to eating too much stodge on Sunday and AF and I'm using todays weight as my weekly weigh-in (is that allowed?) it means since Monday 14th (when I started with you guys) I have lost 5lbs!! that or my scales are broken

JanZ · 23/06/2004 08:34

Really pleased - 10 and a half stone this morning! That's 9lb since the start.

AND I was lighter than dh this morning! [rin] - he was 10 lb 10! (For a long time he's been lighter than me)
