Hi, I've not posted on here for a while so I hope you're all doing okay with your eating!

Loopity your veg soup sounds wonderful. I love soup and am living off the stuff ATM.

I was finding my weight-loss plan a bit difficult to sustian and after being ill for a week and hardly eating I put 3lb back on as soon as I started eating again. Predictable I know but a bit depressing. So I'm doing a 5 day 'beat the bloat' (!!!!) diet out of Prima magazine which is no-carb. I started yesterday and I'm going out for a staff christmas meal on Friday so i've got until then to get my flat stomach for my party frock...

Well, I'll try anyway. The idea is that after 5 days you start to re-introdice carbs and just see if any have a bad effect on you (bloating etc). I'll let you know how it goes! I love veggies esp. roasted ones so I'll be living of fthose this week with grilled chicken and that type of thing to go with it. Lunch today was a goat's cheese and mushroom omelette and an enormous salad with some watermelon afterwards. Really nice! See you all later.

Morning everyone.
I weighed myself this morning and have put on since fri .
Easy on easy off though. I'm back on track now, I always say this .
I need to be good w/e too as they really are ruining the weeks work. How many weekends left till christmas? Two then christmas weekend? So really if I want to lose another 5 pound I need to be 100% on this diet untill christmas eve. No weekend meals out...
Hows everyone else feeling? Positive?

loopity · 04/12/2006 14:51

Hi texasrose, good to hear from you again

Lornaloo, think I'm in same boat as you, had a sneaky weigh myself this morning and not good! I really need to stay out of the house during the day, this cold weather just makes me want to nibble all day and make loads of cuppas.

I bought some miso soup yesterday, has anyone tried this before? Not sure what to do with it, can you add veggies/noodles or do you drink it on its own???

OP posts:
lornaloo · 04/12/2006 15:00

Miso soup? Haven't heard of it. Is it a powder like cupa soup? If so think you just add hot water.
I had soup for lunch. I stocked up on tins of baxters soup. I might make a soup soon to have for dinners.

loopity · 04/12/2006 15:03

It's japanese, made from soya beans. I had two big bowls of home-made vegetable broth for lunch but have ruined it by having a mince pie with a cup of tea when I came in from the school run

lornaloo · 04/12/2006 15:10

Sorry was kind of thinking out loud then .
I have been trying to decide what to have for dinner and just thought homemade soup is nice and filling...I should have that .
Loopity I know what you mean about the whether, you just want to curl up with a nice hot drink and a plate full of biscuits. This is why I want to lose weight before christmas. I want to be able to really enjoy all the nice food without feeling guilty about it. I find the weeks quite easy provided I'm not doing something special (like the concert last wed). Its the weekends that I find hard. We always tend to go out for lunch on a sunday, and If I'm home alone on a fri night I eat badly or if Im at my mums.

lornaloo · 04/12/2006 15:12

If you eat something good for your tea then the mince pie wont matter. I will try and find out the cal and fat content for you.

mummydoc · 04/12/2006 15:13

hello , weekend hit and miss but started well today , when christmas is over can we set a new target ?? if i don't loose a little more i wont be bale to get into ski trousers in feb!!! and i am not buying padded salpoettes - n0,no,no i would rahter go in jeans than look like michellin man in salopettes.

loopity · 04/12/2006 15:14

Hiya mummydoc

OP posts:
loopity · 04/12/2006 15:18

BTW I'm making beef stroganoff with boiled rice for tea. Small portion! Stroganoff will be lean beef strips, mushrooms, onion, mustard and half-fat creme-fraiche - any ideas what the cal count would be roughly. Will have to log onto amazon in a mo and buy a cal-count book!

lornaloo · 04/12/2006 15:19

Think theres 289cals in mince pie and about 10grams of fat. But I haven't a clue on what size mince pie that is.
Yes we definitly need a plan. I want to lose lose lose until christmas not lose gain lose gain....hmmmm have my thinking cap on

lornaloo · 04/12/2006 15:20

Shall have a look for you...hang on.......

mummydoc · 04/12/2006 15:20

forgot to add i haven't even dared go near the scales this morning after doing well last friday, on saturday i ate 7 biscuits and a peice of cake...why , i was bored at work! what a pathetic excuse but looking back was good yesterday only one biscuit and low fat chicken casserole for tea.

loopity · 04/12/2006 15:21

Using lean top round, plain low-fat yogurt, and very little added salt makes this a heart-healthy dish.

1 lb lean beef (top round)
2 tsp vegetable oil
3/4 Tbsp finely chopped onion
1 lb sliced mushrooms
1/4 tsp salt
to taste pepper
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp dried basil
1/4 C white wine
1 C plain low-fat yogurt
6 C cooked macaroni, cooked in unsalted water

Cut beef into 1-inch cubes. Heat 1 teaspoon oil in a non-stick skillet. Sauté onion for 2 minutes.
Add beef and saute for additional 5 minutes. Turn to brown evenly. Remove from pan and keep hot.
Add remaining oil to pan; saute mushrooms.
Add beef and onions to pan with seasonings.
Add wine, yogurt; gently stir in. Heat, but do not boil.
Serve with macaroni.
Note: If thickening is desired, use 2 teaspoons cornstarch; calories are the same as flour, but it has double thickening power. These calories are not figured into the nutrients per serving.

Yield: 5 servings--Serving Size: 6 oz

Each serving provides:

Calories: 499
Total fat: 10 g
Saturated fat: 3 g
Cholesterol: 79 mg
Sodium: 200 mg

lornaloo · 04/12/2006 15:24

Loopity that might be a big mince pie though. How big was the mince pie you had? Have you still got the pack it might say on there. Do you know where its from?

lornaloo · 04/12/2006 15:25

499 calories and 10grams fat if you use same measurements as that...

texasrose · 04/12/2006 15:28

Hi again!

WE are having lean turkey rashers wth a harissa-spice marinade and lots of roasted veggies. The dcs and I just had a fabulously healthy afternoon snack of fresh pineapple. It was yummy and I feel all virtuous now!

Loopity I have no idea about calories I'm afraid.

Mummydoc I'm all for setting a new target after Christmas. So far I've lost 9lb but I'd really like to lose another 7 - 10 lb as well. That would put me back where I was pre-dcs and I know I'd feel better for it. I feel much better for losing this 9lb already. And I don't actually feel deprived either (except for the odd evening when I've really wanted a big bar of choc ).

To start off with I had sugar cravings every day but that's stopped now. It makes me realise how unhealthy my eating had become.

lornaloo · 04/12/2006 15:29

Just re read your post loopity. Your stroganoff will prob be less cals than that one as your using boiled rice.

loopity · 04/12/2006 15:32

Thanks lornaloo - will maybe use plain yoghurt rather than the creme-fraiche, maybe help to make up for the mince pie consumption

Have been thinking too, maybe we need to set ourselves daily challenges? Like go for a 30min or more walk, eat 5,6 or whatever portions of fruit and veg, menu plan ... put a lock on the kitchen door...

Btw, do you have any nice swedish recipes that I could try!!

OP posts:
loopity · 04/12/2006 15:35

retrieved mincepie box from the bin - from m&s - 245 cals each 9.2g fat and I actually had two

OP posts:
lornaloo · 04/12/2006 15:37

Good idea about the daily targets. I like the sound of that.
I will ask my mum for some nice swedish recipes.
The only one I know is
Pyttipana
Potato
onion
ham
peas
all chopped up into tiny pieces and thrown into a frying pan. Not v good for diet but good for something quick and easy for the kids.
