Hello Smile
I've recently lost over 30lbs but I still need to lose another 30ish. Anyone want to join in for some support/motivation? I'm thinking weekly Monday morning weigh ins starting tomorrow (Not compulsory).
I'm going to do healthy food at about 1000-1200 calls a day. I may also add in some fast days too.
All diet types and weights welcome Smile

Achieve - you are saying you only lost 1lb - if you had put on 1lb you would be 2lb heavier than you are now!

Hope your better now achieve mumslife well done! Two pounds is awesome. Grin
I'm on another fast day today so I'm starving but I keep over eating on my non fast days. It just seems like there is always an event where I feel like I have to drink alcohol and eat nice food.
Dam my love of wine! Wine

Hello - looks like a few people are doing really well, congrats!!
I would like to join! I have done really well in the past on low-carb diets.

However, would it be an idea to start with VLC for a week or two in order to kick start things, then switch to LC?

I find it hard to get started with LC. If I felt I had already lost a couple of pounds (from VLC or whatever) then I would be able to get back on the LC wagon and go forward from there.

Does that make sense? Would anyone recommend that approach?

I had a change of plan and didn't fast today - I had a friend over so it just seemed odd

I also realised that my sweet tooth is probably scuppering things
I have a bit of thing about not eating artificial sweeteners but I have had some ice cream and chocolate (yesterday and today) so it probably is wise to have Muller Lights or something in the fridge.

I also did a proper workout today
My theory with walking was that it makes me less hungry than working out but I just really felt the need to do a proper workout

not sure where to go from here really - maybe stick with 1500 cals a day, accept that I have a sweet tooth and consume chemicals..?

I think 2 fast days next week should be fine but I guess after only losing a pound last week I'm not convinced by it

i was rather relieved to have a friend wanting to be fed as well tbh - as soon as she texted me I thought "great, I can eat today".

achieve6 · 01/08/2015 20:44
  • when I say "consume chemicals" I mean have things like Muller light and Pepsi Max. Generally I try to avoid those chemicals but having things like real ice cream is just too hard to fit into a calorie count.

I have a feeling the scales won't budge on Monday...

ThatsWotSheSaid · 02/08/2015 21:20

To be honest achieve if I were you I'd do a no/low sugar diet and try and break the habit. If it's sweet stuff that's stopping you keeping your calories down then giving them up may be the way to go.
You could try 2 weeks without sugar and see if it stops the cravings? I'll do it with you?
That being said if you feel like it'll tip you over the edge and you need the odd treat feel free to ignore me Grin

ThatsWotSheSaid - thank you for the offer, I appreciate it. Sadly I've been there, done that. It was utterly joyless, plus I averaged a loss of half to one pound a week so no different that when I counted in some treats.

I am going to the supermarket tomorrow after work so I will pick up a couple of calorie counted treats. It will be easier to factor them in I think.

I will also pick up some Pepsi Max - last time I successfully shed some weight (years ago) I used to find that really helpful with a sweet craving.

I think being ill has made me go all unfocused this week so next week should be a better week.

Cadsuane · 03/08/2015 10:48

I have had a fairly good week except from Friday when Dd1(15) brought everyone in a roll and chips. She had paid for it herself Grin so we had to eat it.
Any way 1.4lb off this week for me.

RoosterCogburn · 03/08/2015 11:11

I've lost 1lb this week.

Starting weight 172.8lb
Week One 167.2lb
Week Two 166.2lb

I've just been shopping for the first time since I started trying to lose weight and it brought home to me how ingrained my 'treat' habit has become. I equate a trip to M&S with a nice packet of biscuits for later and croissants (note the plural) for the next day's breakfast.

Good job I'm focused so I came home with some naice ham and a melon as a treat instead.

LifeIsBetterInFlipFlops · 03/08/2015 15:28

Well done with your loses.

I haven't dared to go near the scales - I've had a nightmare. I honestly think there is something wrong with the way my brain is wired; I'm desperate to lose weight, know what I need to do, yet I still eat like a gannet.

RoosterCogburn · 03/08/2015 15:51

LifeIsBetterInFlipFlops (love your name) it's hard isn't it.
While I know eat less, move more = weight loss the reality is it is hard to do.
I keep reminding myself that it's hard to diet, but it's also hard to be overweight because it makes me unhappy and I feel physically uncomfortable.

It's taken me more than two weeks to stop feeling almost permanently hungry - most of the time I've had a glass of water and then not felt hungry anymore. Before I was eating as soon as I felt the mildest of hunger pangs.

I do find I'm thinking about food a lot, so I'm trying to channel that by making sure the meals I eat are enjoyable. It's easy for me at the moment because I'm on holiday so I have time to plan and prepare - when I go back to work in September I'll have to be really organised or else I'll slip back into snack-mode really quickly.

achieve6 · 03/08/2015 18:42

Gained half a pound

RoosterCogburn · 03/08/2015 21:59

Poor achieve - remember, you've been ill so it was never going to be a good week to lose weight.

Hopefully next week will be better for you.

achieve6 · 03/08/2015 22:11

Thanks Rooster.

Thanks Rooster...I've had a couple of restrained days, and feel I'm back in the zone. I was derailed by DS having a party at home, no kale crisps nor carrot batons here, just full on pizza and nasty colour cakes. We then had a house full of sweets and rubbish which I couldn't resist, and it's never just one.

Hi hum, shame to have wasted the last two weeks since we started this, but I will get there.

Off to beautiful Ludlow tomorrow; no reception at all, so I'll catch up with everyone on Sunday.

RoosterCogburn · 04/08/2015 22:11

You can't have a party without junk food!

I associate Ludlow with delicious food...

LifeIsBetterInFlipFlops · 04/08/2015 23:00

'I associate Ludlow with delicious food'

sticks fingers in ears
Lalalalalalalalalalala

RoosterCogburn · 04/08/2015 23:12

Sorry - I remember buying some amazing sausages and delicious cheese.

Mind you, I associate most places with food.
When DH and I reminisce about places we have visited we rarely remember the 'sights' we usually say things like "you know, the place where we had amazing creme brûlée"

achieve6 · 05/08/2015 10:18

I don't get that interested or excited about food, I would never remember what I had eaten anywhere.
yet somehow I am fat
so annoying

yesterday I thought I had an excellent diet day till about 10pm, I was blooming starving

2 hours later I was still starving. I've been advised one good test is "are you hungry enough to eat a protein bar?" - they usually taste like cardboard - and I asked myself that question, then devoured the thing and could feel my body saying "thank you". Sigh.

sorry, I'm finding it hard to keep up motivation, as you can probably tell. I remember another poster saying she felt like a fit healthy person with a load of fat stuck to her that she couldn't get rid of. I know what she means. I did a proper workout yesterday because I really felt the need, but that's probably why I got so hungry. Argh.

achieve6 · 06/08/2015 10:59

anyone around? how are you all getting on?

I'm afraid I had a bunch of stress yesterday - ongoing legal problem - and ate everything in sight. I am supposed to fast today but not sure I can face it, partly because I'd like to work out at lunch time and get some stress out.

I haven't eaten anything yet though. I suppose I'm also disillusioned because I cannot believe I lost one ruddy pound after a week of dieting and 2 days of fasting within it. Grr.

RoosterCogburn · 06/08/2015 16:45

Hi achieve, sorry to hear you're having a tough time. Like you, when I'm under stress the first thing I do is eat.
One of my friends is the opposite, she can't eat when stressed so the weight drops off her whereas I trough and just get bigger.

I'm doing alright with the eating, but I've hurt my back so any exercise and all the extra walking I was planing on doing have gone out the window, at the moment I'm moving as little as possible and hobbling around.
The temptation is for me to break into the biscuits, but in a cunning move I haven't bought any so there isn't anything 'bad' in the house and as we live in the middle of nowhere it's far too much effort to go out and get anything.

achieve6 · 07/08/2015 10:44

thanks Rooster
sorry to hear you've hurt your back, hope you feel better soon.

achieve6 · 10/08/2015 11:59

anyone still here?

no change. Going to have to try 5:2 again. Argh.
