Does anyone want to join me in 3 healthy meals a day and no snacking plan?

I'm an overweight grazer and feel like I've lost my way totally.
I eat far too much and hardly remember what feeling hungry feels like.
I'm not going to be strict about what I eat - just normal sensible meals with vegetables. If I eat out then I'll make a healthy choice.
Anyone fancy it?

Well done on the run! I think the odd day off plan isn't going to matter too much as long as you get back on track. I think I will have a bad day one day this week as ive promised to take dd for hamburgers and chips one day.

On a positive I walked over 18,500 steps today!

500Decibels · 25/05/2015 20:09

Well done on those steps Viva!
You're right. The odd day here and there doesn't matter but my guests turned up with so many goodies. Thankfully, all the bad stuff is mostly gone now. The kids are welcome to the rest!

I've had a good day too. No snacking and managed a run - only week 3 on my c25k, so not actually a great deal of running (!), but I feel I'm making progress. About to have a cup of tea though and so want a biscuit to go with it. Will resist.

I agree that one day off plan won't matter.

You're walking a lot of steps Viva. I know the recommended amount is 10,000 but have no idea how far that is in miles. You're going way beyond that, so you must be doing a fair bit.

I'm planning to weigh myself on Friday as that will be a week since I started. Anyone going to join me in a weigh-in?

VivaLeBeaver · 25/05/2015 21:47

On average I find 6000 steps is 3 miles, so guess I walked over 9 miles today. That's really not normal. It's only because I'm in London doing tourist stuff and shopping!

I do try for 10,000 steps a day at home.m if I'm not working I generally do it because I take the dog for a 3 mile walk every day. If I'm working I might only do 5000 steps.

VivaLeBeaver · 25/05/2015 21:49

Oh and c25k is a brilliant way of upping your exercise meers. So keep going. I did it years ago and ended up running a 10k, never ran since that 10k day! I hated running and took up cycling instead!

VivaLeBeaver · 25/05/2015 21:50

And yes, I'm due a weigh in on Friday. Won't be near any scales till the evening though so maybe I best do it Sat morning?

Sunshine200 · 25/05/2015 21:58

I've been doing this for 2 weeks and have lost 5lb which I'm pleased with. It's just cutting out the junk food, I was a nightmare with it.

To be honest I think I'm not too far off a good weight for my height etc but I can't shift my 'baby' belly (baby is nearly 2 so I don't think I can really blame her anymore!). I look a bit pregnant at times- but think I need toning more than anything.

flapinko · 25/05/2015 23:45

I haven't had a great day as we have guests here, which means wine, which always leads to bad food choices for me:

B: Scrambled eggs on rye bread & an apple
L: tomato soup, pitta bread & salad
D: lamp chops & veg, cheese for pud, & two squares of choc & popcorn with a movie & 4 glasses of wine.

Ah, the shame! Tomorrow is a new day Smile

VivaLeBeaver · 26/05/2015 18:38

Well I didn't feel as hungry mid morning so that's good.

Bagel and philly for breakfast.
Wagamamma katsu curry for lunch but only ate a third of the rice
Lentil salad for dinner with some chicken.

But ive been naughty and had 4 biscuits!

How's everyone else doing?

meerschweinchen · 26/05/2015 18:42

OK, but I too caved and had a biscuit after lunch. I told myself it was part of my lunch and not a snack, but obviously it's cheating really. Rest of the day was fine though.

I do feel quite hungry a lot of the time, but I know I'm eating a lot less than normal. I know I need to retrain myself to eat less and it will get better. Really hoping I've lost weight!

VivaLeBeaver · 26/05/2015 18:45

Yes, I will cry if I haven't lost anything! Am determined to keep going, it will take time. Well done Meers one biscuit isn't bad.

redcaryellowcar · 26/05/2015 19:01

Great idea, I've always thought if I focussed on eating my 5 a day and drinking 8 glasses of water that would probably be a good starting point, snacking, usually once the dc are in bed is my absolute downfall. I'll be back to read up on the thread later, off to do a bit of exercise now!

500Decibels · 26/05/2015 20:16

Everyone seems to be doing really well!
One biscuit is not bad and it's good you ate it as part of your meal. I think at this stage we need to get used to sticking to 3 meals a day so whatever helps us to do that must be good.
Feeling hungry is good. It means your body has to use fat reserves for energy and you'll really enjoy your next meal. Well that's my view Smile
My day was ok today. No exercise except walking around a lake with kids.
Breakfast was porridge and dry toast with marmite (needed my fix!)
Lunch (on the run so not great) I slice bread sandwich with cheese and tomato, tea cake, orange.
Dinner was bolognaise with lots of veg and with sweet potato instead of spaghetti.
I'm going to clean the kitchen and Hoover then do 50 sit ups while I watch TV.

I think this thread is really motivating. Thanks 500 for starting it (weirdly on the very day that I had decided I needed to do something about my weight!)

I am very impressed with the sit ups. I hate sit-ups! I have a copy of the 30 day shred languishing on my bookcase. Perhaps I need to do that too. In fact there's probably about 30 days until the wedding I'm using as my goal, so definitely should.

flapinko · 26/05/2015 21:41

We still have guests here so not a perfect day (again) but a lot less bad than it would have been usually, in that I knew I might end up snacking out and about in London with them, so only had a teeny lunch to compensate.

B: cereal, a couple of slices of bacon, apple
L: banana
Snacks: crips & Pimms in the pub
D: chicken curry & rice with half a pudding

Guests are gone tomorrow so I'm planning a nice healthy day, although feeling a bit apprehensive as haven't got much on, and know my worst times (as others have said) are when I'm bored. I think there will be many cups of tea to compensate! Are others finding that they're drinking more tea, coffee etc. to help them get through those many food-free hours?

500Decibels · 26/05/2015 21:52

I'm glad I started this thread too Smile
30 day shred is fab. You'll notice such a difference. I've done about 25 days then got a clicky knee so I stopped. I should do my davina DVD.
I'm definitely drinking more tea. Mostly green tea. I've got one which is green tea with orange which is lovely. I'm also trying to organise my time better so I'm busy. Just doing more chores, activities with kids, box sets and reading.

Hello! I've just decided to start doing this, just three meals a day and avoiding snacking. I tried calorie counting a couple of months ago, but it's just so much faff and difficult to work out how many calories you are really eating.

My plan is to avoid eating between meals by drinking water or tea at first signs of hunger, and then maybe having something like carrots/celery or fruit if I'm really hungry. Apart from that just normal meals without over-doing it. I don't want to really ban anything, so a little bit of chocolate occasionally and cake at weekends is ok, but I have to stop the constant grazing I do between meals!

I have also just got an exercise bike which I'm very excited about. After my first go yesterday I reckon it's going to be a great idea to get fit. I avoided running due to bad knees but exercise bikes are low impact so there's no excuse now!

My motivation is that I can't fit into my summer dresses! I have nothing to wear, but I'm refusing to buy bigger clothes - I just need to get the weight off!

flapinko · 27/05/2015 18:32

Hi MugsLife!

I've had a good day today, although have had to eat dinner with the kids as just can't go that long between meals (i.e. waiting till DH back at 8). How do people do it? My stomach was literally growling at 5! Anyway..

B: peanut butter & banana on toast
L: chilli con carne & rice with a coconut macaroon for pud
D: omelette with salad and half a cheese sandwich

And LOTS of cups of tea! Gonna do my teeth now so I'm not tempted to scoff anything else tonight, other than perhaps a peppermint tea.

500Decibels · 27/05/2015 21:24

I had a good day today.
B porridge and toast
L lentil soup, 1 slice bread
D chicken, rice, stir fried cabbage, yoghurt, handful of popcorn (I made some for the kids and I can't resist the stuff)

OP posts:
500Decibels · 27/05/2015 21:26

I always have dinner with the kids. I prefer to eat early now. Dh sometimes comes home quite late so I don't bother waiting for him anymore.

VivaLeBeaver · 27/05/2015 21:43

I've had a bad day!

Yoghurt and banana for breakfast
Pulled pork roll and chips and piña colada for lunch!
Cheese and ham baguette for dinner. And 4 biscuits!

Over 12,000 steps though.

VivaLeBeaver · 27/05/2015 21:44

And yes I always eat dinner early, before 6pm normally. I hate eating later, just feel bloated all evening.

meerschweinchen · 27/05/2015 21:50

I've had a good day food wise, but mainly because I don't feel well. Dh and Ds have just had sickness bugs and it looks as if I might have it now too. Not actually been sick yet, but feel generally a bit rubbish and tired. The good news is I can't face eating. Haven't had anything since lunch and don't even feel hungry. Good for the diet, I suppose!

We normally all eat together at 6. A little later than ideal for the kids, and a bit early for us, but so much easier. Couldn't face dishing up and clearing up twice. I've got used to it now and it's quite nice not eating late in the evening. I think I now prefer an early dinner, although I did used to snack on chocolate in the evening.

Good to see that everyone else is still doing well Smile

flapinko · 28/05/2015 08:29

500, I meant to ask - which Davina DVD do you use? I have seriously put my back out doing the Shred Hmm
