Does anyone want to join me in 3 healthy meals a day and no snacking plan?

I'm an overweight grazer and feel like I've lost my way totally.
I eat far too much and hardly remember what feeling hungry feels like.
I'm not going to be strict about what I eat - just normal sensible meals with vegetables. If I eat out then I'll make a healthy choice.
Anyone fancy it?

I'm still here too. The last half term of the year just seems to be such a busy time. As well as dealing with all the kids stuff, I've got my own college stuff to finish off too.

This heat is making me really disorganised about food. I don't feel like cooking and no one else in the family would enjoy just salads. I would happily eat nice and interesting salads but by the time I've done food for everyone else, I can't be bothered to do anything else for me.

Ok, I've been pointed in this direction and yes! I'd like to join!

Pippinlongsocks · 03/07/2015 12:59

Would love to join. Eat a fairly reasonable diet but know that my snacking is the problem especially at work where I'm mostly desk bound as I love cake and biscuits and can't resist something with a mid morning latte. Have for the past month resisted eating pudding so a good start with that. Made a lovely fruit salad last night which I'm having as an alternative pudding but small portion due to concern about sugar, although I think it's better sugar than a cake or biscuity option? I work out around 3/4 times a week. I've gone from only doing cardio to smaller amount of cardio and weights work. Have a personal trainer session last week so I can get advice on a proper programme. Would like to lose half a stone ideally and a whole stone even better by changing habits. Does everyone weigh themselves? I get disheartened as get on the scales and even though I've been good and working out I weigh more. Is this the muscle v fat weighing more thing does anyone know. Think I should stay off the scales! They are not helping me much right now.

MugsLife · 04/07/2015 17:51

First day of holiday and I've already had ice cream and a pastie! Fish and chips has been suggested for dinner - the diet is doomed! See you all next week maybe?!

PurpleDaisies · 05/07/2015 20:03

Hi everyone (and welcome new people!),

I've had a fairly poor weekend diet wise but it was always going to be like that...made a huge cake for my new God daughter's christening so there was a lot of eating buttercream and chocolate fudge icing. Oops. There was also buffet after the christening so all thoughts of being good went out of the window. Back on the program tomorrow!

Pipin I do a lot of weights with my personal trainer and my weight is pretty static too. I try not to weigh too often for the same reason as you-it is depressing! My clothes feel much less tight and I had some nice compliments about how I looked in the dress I was wearing today so I'm sure my figure is better. I'm measuring my progress in inches lost rather than pounds. And I agree fresh fruit is better than cake-it has dietary fibre and vitamins which are good whereas pure sugar just tastes nice!

Have a lovely holiday mugs.

Pippinlongsocks · 07/07/2015 08:32

Feeling good as yesterday was first day for a very long time that no biscuits or cakes passed my lips! i even managed to resist when DP ate maltesers in front of me!! Hot weather has taken my appetite away a bit which is no bad thing. Had my PT session last night and got some good tips on how to refresh my workouts. Trainer suggested just getting on the scales once a month or just taking measurements and checking those once a month. Focussing on long term goals. Keep up the good work everyone else. This thread is really helpful.

IdStillRatherBeKnitting · 07/07/2015 16:56

Hi, been out of the loop for ages!

I've been trying really hard, and have lost 3kg since joining the thread.

I am trying not to snack, and am getting as many miles in on my bike as I can. I've got the 100K on sunday, which is 68 miles. If I'm not another kilo lighter on Monday I shall cry! (and I won't even be dehydrated!)

I was reading another thread, and followed a link, which works out how many calories you need to survive each day; mine came out at 1460, so I've been starving myself a bit (have been aiming for less than 1200), so have upped my portions a tiny bit. I want to keep this weight off, not just get slim and then yoyo. So long and slow...

Will try to post more often, as I'm more likely to be good if I own up to it!

PurpleDaisies · 07/07/2015 17:07

Wow knitting that's fantastic!!! Really good luck for the bike ride. Are you raising money or is it a fitness thing? Either way you've done brilliantly with the weight loss. What's the website you used? It sounds interesting.

I'm at my target weight now (yay!). I'm exercising a lot more and have more muscle than I used to so it turns out I was aiming for too low a weight for the same amount of body fat as I used to have when I was thinner if that makes sense. My measurements are now the same as they were at the end of last summer when I was happy with my body. Hooray!

I'm doing miles better with the snacking now I'm out of the habit. Apparently it takes a month to set a new habit and it is definitely getting easier. I've been to an abs class (killer) and Zumba today.

Today's eating...
B porridge (still don't really like it much but keeps me full)
L random selection of chicken, yoghurt and a peanut bar
T curry brought round by my lovely neighbours. It doesn't look very healthy so I'm forgoing the rice and topping up with a load of veggies

tumbletumble · 09/07/2015 21:16

Well done Knitting and Purple! Good day here:

B - porridge, small banana
L - rice salad, mushrooms
S - small portion of red Thai chicken curry with noodles, broad beans
Snack - nectarine

PurpleDaisies · 09/07/2015 22:15

Hi tumble, I was starting to worry everyone had disappeared...
I've had a moderately good day, sort of. I got up early, ate but then was so hungry by 9am that I had a second breakfast. There was also a minor incident with a magnum after a lovely evening walk with my husband. I have cake in the oven (not for me) so the house smells like temptation. I think I will have some hot chocolate to ward off the cravings.
B (1) Cheerios (30g, no milk)
B (2) scrambled egg on toast
L bacon sandwich with large salad, orange juice
T roasted chicken breast with ratatouille with a couple of new potatoes, lots of veg and a small piece of focaccia
Espresso Magnum (it was totally worth the calories)
Personal trainer session tomorrow. Still aching from yesterday's gym session so it could be painful.

cheapskatemum · 10/07/2015 19:53

Hi! I've been on the No S Diet thread, this seems to be the same idea. I'm only 4 days in and find I'm eating bigger meals to try and ensure I don't get too hungry between meals. My main reason for stopping snacking is to break the habit of eating chocolate before I go to bed. I've only done that 1 day so far, so a definite improvement as it used to be daily.

Today I was on a training day, so I had granola & GF bran flakes (I'm avoiding wheat) for breakfast, a GF wrap with roasted peppers and chicken thigh, fresh mango an apple and a pecan Nak'd bar for lunch and curried sweet potato soup with cheese on GF toast, banana with greek yoghurt & honey for dinner.

Pippi, I'm like you re: exercising and eating healthily but weighing more. At least I look toned and healthy, but would like to lose half a stone. I usually walk the dogs a couple of miles a day and do one exercise class a week: Zumba, aqua aerobics or swimming. I wish I could afford a personal trainer or gym membership.

PurpleDaisies · 10/07/2015 21:13

Welcome cheapskate! Have you thought about cleaning your teeth straight after your final meal so you're less likely up hit the choc before bedtime? Someone suggested it to me and I've found it really helpful in avoiding my big vice-crisps before bedtime!

I'm really aching after a Pilates class and another pt session (she's away next week so we did two this week...legs are burning).

Today's eating...
B scrambled egg on toast with Philadelphia, small pain au raisin
L banana, Starbucks Bircher museli
Post work out extreme hunger snack 30g piece of cheese and a digestive biscuit
T quorn fajitas (just one wrap for me with homemade guacamole and fat free Greek yoghurt), my version of nando's macho peas and corn on the cob
I am considering a Friday night glass of wine...

MugsLife · 11/07/2015 18:15

Well my holiday is over so time to get back on it. Drove home today so got lunch in a service station and got bolognese out of freezer for dinner.

Skipped breakfast
L: tuna nicoise from waitrose (250 cals)
D: bolognese with small portion of spaghetti, sweetcorn, sprinkle of cheese.

cheapskatemum · 11/07/2015 19:03

I had bircher muesli for breakfast today, Purple! Then boiled eggs, asparagus and parma ham for lunch. Weekend treat of Danish pastry with pecans and maple syrup. Will have curry this eve as DH always gets a take away on Saturdays. I'll have a bit of rice and tarka dhal.

Thanks for the suggestion, Purple, I don't think cleaning my teeth would stop me eating chocolate, but I could give it a try! A few years ago I managed to get to my ideal weight and drinking liquorice tea in the evening helped with chocolate cravings, maybe it's time to try that again.

PurpleDaisies · 11/07/2015 20:24

I really liked the Starbucks bircher museli - I've never made it myself so I'm going to try it next week. The teeth cleaning thing worked for me through sheer laziness in not wanting to brush again before bed so I just didn't eat any more. Liquorice tea sounds very nice and I'll definitely add that to my weekly shop.

Today's been a day off which started well with poached egg and spinach on toast but went downhill from there! I had a delicious lunch of croque monsieur with a huge salad followed by a custard tart, then for tea we've had fish and chips and a mini milky way. A thoroughly nice day and I think I appreciated it more because I've mainly been sensible with eating this week!

Tomorrow for the second week in a row I'm at a Christening with a buffet afterwards. I am not good with buffets and I might have to have a no seconds policy. There will be one very highly stacked plate of food on the first go I think!

cheapskatemum · 11/07/2015 22:53

Good luck with the buffet! I've just remembered I'm at a 60th birthday party tomorrow afternoon!

Trying to remember the liquorice tea brand, Pukka do one, but the nicest one was a more obscure make. I think i bought it in Sainsburys.

Mmm fish & chips...

MugsLife · 12/07/2015 20:12

Today I have had:

B: greek yoghurt and strawberries, half a slice of peanut butter on toast
L: ham and avocado salad
D: haddock in tomato and chorizo sauce with a little french bread

Feeling a bit hungry now... :(

How is everyone doing today?

PurpleDaisies · 12/07/2015 20:51

Today was a really nice day at a christening and I did pretty well with the buffet...one (fairly big) plate of mixed goodies, a small piece of cheesecake and a piece of cake. That sounds bad but it could have been much worse.

I've had beans on wholemeal toast for tea, with a small bowl of granola because I was still hungry. Was meant to be going for a run but flopped on the sofa instead. Ah well. Tomorrow is another day!

Monroe · 12/07/2015 22:27

Are you still accepting new members?

OP your post struck me as I am also a grazer. I can happily eat all day and can't remember the last time I felt genuinely hungry Blush

So I'm determinedto do something about it. I have a wedding in September and a holiday in October but the main reason is I just generally feel bloated and uncomfortable in my own skin. So I'm going to cut down on the wine and try eating more healthily.

I'd love some advice on healthy packed lunches if possible, I often work out and about and it's a lot easier to pick up a quick mcdonalds between appointments or I find I'm filling up on too much bread.

And massive well done to everyone on their weight loss so far

500Decibels · 12/07/2015 23:11

All are welcome Monroe Smile
As for packed lunches - I'm sure a sandwich, yoghurt (organic and live) and fruit is way better than a McDonalds. Or salads if you want to be healthy and have time to prep them. Jamie oliver has fab ones and bbcgoodfood is always good for ideas.
I've stopped eating wheat bread as I eat too much of it and have switched to rye bread. It's not that great as it is but I don't mind it toasted.

I've actually been awol from my own thread because I'm still struggling with doing this Sad
Life is very hectic at the moment and I can't seem to get my food organised. So I actually need this thread more at the moment.

Mondays are always a new start so I've renewed my plans and just got back from a long walk.
I'm going to bed so I get enough sleep. I always seem to eat more when I'm tired.

Well done to everyone sticking to this and losing. It's very inspiring.

Monroe · 12/07/2015 23:18

Thank you Smile

I have just drank half a bottle of wine and eaten the last of the pringles (that I bought and hid) so I can start from fresh tomorrow and not be tempted.

I find the busier I am the worse my diet as meal plans go out the window and I just grab whatever is nearest. I don't like fruit but love a salad so need to get organised and start preparing them the night before. Going shopping tomorrow so plan on filling my trolley with lots of healthy goodness. Onwards and upwards.

Effic · 12/07/2015 23:26

Me too? Holiday in 4 weeks and need to lose the 6 pounds that have appeared from skipping meals but then filling up on too many biscuits / cake / chocolate. 3 meals - no snacks ..... From tomorrow for 4 weeks .....
