Trying to lose 1 lb per week

Undefined · 23/04/2015 14:02

I'm currently 15 st 10 lb at 5'7" and want to lose a pound each week until I get down to my goal weight of 10 st. I know I have a long, long journey but I want to do it slowly because I have a history a yo-yo dieting. I have previously gained and lost 5 stone in a year (not the same year) and I don't want to be doing that for the rest of my life. I'm quite happy to lose a pound a week and be a couple of stone lighter in 6 months time.

My stats are:

Starting Weight: 15 st 11 lb
Current Weight: 15 st 10 lb
Short term goal: 15 st 7 lb
Long term goal: 10 st 0 lb

Weigh in day is Tuesday.

Anyone want to join me?

Yippee, I weighed in at 9' 10.25" this morning. I'm keeping calm though as I know weight comes of most quickly at the start.
I say I'm keeping calm - I did eat significantly more today, what with it being Father's Day and all, it would have been churlish not to...
Like Not2bObvious, keeping an eye on the calories has been the key and doing 10000 steps. As at least for the duration of my walk I am away from the biscuit tin Smile

Not2bObvious · 22/06/2015 07:43

Well done cawoo! Is that a 3.75 lb drop? More that a quarter of a stone!!! That's super good.
I've managed to stay on track more of the weekend, much better behaviour than ever before - I might regret saying this bit it feels like something's clicked on my head? I get why I'm overweight (I always knew I'm not that stoopid????) bit like apart from just getting it, I've accepted what I need to do. Now just rinse and repeatGrin

hambo · 22/06/2015 10:06

Starting weight : 10 st 12
Last weeks weight : 10 st 5.8 lbs
This week: 10 st 6.6lb
Short term goal : 10 st 4
Long terms goal : 9st 7

Lost 0 lbs this week.....put on 0.8lbs
Lost 5.4lbs total

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRGGHHH how depressing. Oh well...I was not very focussed this week as it was all too easy last week. Onwards and upwards!!
Well done Cawoo and good luck Not2bObvious. Hopefully next Monday I'll be down again.

CQ · 22/06/2015 10:24

Hi all, mind if I join you? I've been lurking on a few threads lately looking for support and I think you lot have the right mindset for me Smile

I'm 5'4" and weighed in today at 213.7lbs. SadBlush Not sure what my goal weight is - I've been nowhere near it for years. I managed to get under 180lbs last year on BIWI's lowcarb bootcamp, but hey ho it's all back.
I think I'll make 180 my goal for now. Realistic, and still enough to really show a difference - should be a couple of dress sizes.

I have been a consistent yo-yo dieter all my life. They all work. And then I put it all back on again plus some more. DH this morning thinks he is going to try 5:2. Another diet plan, IMO. I cannot fast when I'm home all day, there is just no way.

Hoping for a good week this week as DH is away on business, DS away on D of E, DD staying at school every night for school play so I don't need to cook anyone's supper for at least 3 nights. I find it so much easier if I can just have a bowl of yoghurt and fruit in the evening, and a larger lunch.

I'm aiming to increase my daily steps average and use MFP to log my food.

I'm sitting here in my running gear - all ready to go - and it's pissing down outside. Might go to the gym instead.

Not2bObvious · 22/06/2015 10:40

Welcome CQ, lovely to have another person joining in. Best of luck to your husband, as I mentioned down thread I had great success with 5:2 but it's not for me right now. That being said it taught me a lot, I won't die if I'm a bit hungry etc. Best of luck for your first week, I reckon if you set you mfp up with the right info and you still to it, you'll see a difference next week. Funny enough I've found myself inadvertently going low carb, just because bread can be quite calorific and quite frankly I was as hungry if not hungrier than when I stuck to salad/protein.
Hambo don't worry tis but a slight delay in your success. If you know why it happened and you accept that then you know what not to do this week, it's all lessons really. If you'd been sure you'd done everything right then it was just a blip, you'll see the results soon. It's worth remembering overdoing it won't show immediately, you'll probably see the results of a blow out a week or two later if you didn't compensate for it immediately after - that's what I reckon anyway. As my week starts on Saturday, I'm on day 3 already and I'd say I owe my calorie banks a good 1000 cals (wayyyy to much to drink Saturday) so I'll have to be very good these next 4 days. Did bootcamp this morning do that's a start Grin Expecting no more than a pound on Friday - pls pls pls Grin

hambo · 22/06/2015 10:53

Hello CQ, welcome and best of luck!
Not2bObvious - yes, I know what went wrong. I went out to dinner on Friday evening, (pasta but no pudding, but cappacino). Climbed a hill on Saturday but ate lots of snacks full of rubbish, and lots of white bread, and in total had more alcohol than normal through the week. I also missed a couple of exercise classes. Drat! and double drat. I think I'll go to the shops to get some tasty salady stuff, you are right about it filling you up as much as carbs.

cawoo2 · 23/06/2015 09:37

Don't worry hambo, it's just a blip. Focus on the positive - look at how well you have done so far.

I'm interested to know why you are not doing the 5:2 this time Not2bObvious? I've tried it before too and although I lost weight I was headachey and shaky on the fasting days.

Hello CQ, I know what you mean about cooking for the family making it hard. I hope you're enjoying your few days without.

Not2bObvious · 23/06/2015 21:37

cawoo I found this time it made me flipping miserable (which to honest is why I stopped last time if I'm honest) I'd struggle through the day and then undo any good by snaffling a good 500 additional calories before bed. Don't get me wrong it absolutely works for some and I learned some great habits from it, it just started to feel more like a diet than any other diet. I was evangelical about it for a long time and if you look at the main thread, you'll see many people really succeeding but I couldn't cut it anymore. Like us all I have a pretty full on life, it made eating my sole thought every single day, not the 2 days of abstinence, every day. I'm just really focussing on eating well for my 1500 cals a day, I think this could work for me. If I have something coming up in the evening, I'm able to keep to a tight budget, that's what this is for me - an exercise in budgeting. Sorry for the waffle!

cawoo2 · 24/06/2015 12:26

Not2bObvious -Yes it made me obsess about food too. Like you, I'm watching the calories and making better food choices. Also, just wearing a pedometer makes me put that extra exercise effort in.
BTW how are you managing to embolden our names as I don't seem to be able to it (what an amateur)?

hambo · 24/06/2015 13:00

Ha I wondered that too!! (emboldened names).
I also view this as a budget, ie if I eat less for lunch I can eat more for dinner....I guess it makes sense!

Not2bObvious · 24/06/2015 22:01

To embolden the name (I like that, makes us sound like superheroes Grin) just put name no space before or after name or word asterisk e.g. name

Not2bObvious · 24/06/2015 22:03

I'm sure I didn't need to spell out asterisk or star as I have to say to end users - IT bod here! Sorry guys Grin But if I see an emboldened name with name asterisk I know I didn't explain properly lol!

hambo · 25/06/2015 12:33

hello

hambo · 25/06/2015 12:34

thank you it worked!!

Not2bObvious · 25/06/2015 13:29

you're welcome Wink

Not2bObvious · 26/06/2015 07:18

Morning all. Weigh in done:
Starting weight : 12st 2lbs
Last weeks weight : 12st 2lbs
This week: 11st13.2lb
Short term goal : 11st7lbs
Long terms goal : 9st11lbs

So that's a loss of .4 of a pound on a week where I couldn't possibly have done any more or been better with my food. I'm struggling a little to accept that, I think I'll average a pound a week over the month, it just won't go off nice and neatly. On the very plus side, I'm invigorated to continue as I have been cause over 2 weeks it's an average of 1.4 a week and if I'd seen that I would be thrilled! It's all about presentation reallyGrin Hope everyone has a nice weekend planned?

Not2bObvious · 26/06/2015 07:19

Oops that's what I get for copy/paste, should read:
Starting weight : 12st 2lbs
Last weeks weight : 11st13.6lbs
This week: 11st13.2lbs
Short term goal : 11st7lbs
Long terms goal : 9st11lbs

cawoo2 · 26/06/2015 11:39

genious
And well done on the continued weight loss. I'm bracing myself to view it as cumulative rather than per week - which is what matters really.

hambo · 26/06/2015 21:28

I keep losing 0.4lbs also. ( but not last week!!)..... I reckon that as long as it comes down each week then it is sll good....0.4lbs per week is over 20lbs in a year which s brlliant!

cawoo2 · 28/06/2015 17:08

Miserable weigh in today.

Starting weight: 10 stone
Last week's weight: 9' 10.25"
This week: 9' 12"

Haven't done anything different this week, except I do have my period. Does that make a difference? I am a bit bloated with it.

Ah well, tis still a 1lb a week I suppose. Normally this would make me consider giving up but this time I can't cos I have you lot to answer to!

Not2bObvious · 28/06/2015 18:15

Aww Cawoo I've been there and it sucks, but Totm can most definately cause you to retain fluid (and cause you to crave salt that also adds to the bloat) Do not lose heart! Damn right you have us lot to answer to Wink It's just a number, even more since you know you didn't do anything to gain - even if you did, this wouldn't be the week you saw it, weight loss or gain doesn't 100% happen over a few days/a week.
Keep on trucking, you'll get there if you just put it behind you. Chin up chickyStar

cawoo2 · 29/06/2015 09:02

Thanks Not2bObvious. I needed a little pep talk.

hambo · 29/06/2015 11:09

Starting weight : 10 st 12
Last weeks weight : 10 st 6.6 lbs
This week: 10 st 5lb
Short term goal : 10 st 4
Long terms goal : 9st 7

Lost 1.6 lbs this week.....put on 0.8lbs
Lost 7lbs total
Half a stone hurrah!!
Hooray! I tried quite hard this week but still ate quite a bit - tried not to eat too much bread and beer!

cawoo I hope you just keep on trying cos we all have hard weeks and periods always muck up a weigh in. Good luck! (PS am away for the next two weeks but will need a weigh in when I return as I bet I put on the 7 lbs I have lost!)

hambo · 29/06/2015 11:10

oops cut and paste fail...

meadowquark · 29/06/2015 11:52

Hello! May I join? I am at my heaviest ever 108.5kg, my height is 5'7.
Every year since my DS1 was born (he is 7 years old now!) I lose about 6-10kg in spring/summer, and every winter I gain the same and more.
My goal is to lose 36kg (that is about 6st I believe). I give myself as long as I need.

I have tried a variety of sensible diets, including calorie counting and 5:2 but could not stick to any of them long-term.
This time I have created "every other day dieting" for myself - 1000kcal on diet days and 2000kcal on normal days. This way I am hoping to manage long term and learn to eat properly.
