Trying to lose 1 lb per week

Undefined · 23/04/2015 14:02

I'm currently 15 st 10 lb at 5'7" and want to lose a pound each week until I get down to my goal weight of 10 st. I know I have a long, long journey but I want to do it slowly because I have a history a yo-yo dieting. I have previously gained and lost 5 stone in a year (not the same year) and I don't want to be doing that for the rest of my life. I'm quite happy to lose a pound a week and be a couple of stone lighter in 6 months time.

My stats are:

Starting Weight: 15 st 11 lb
Current Weight: 15 st 10 lb
Short term goal: 15 st 7 lb
Long term goal: 10 st 0 lb

Weigh in day is Tuesday.

Anyone want to join me?

That's really good Fox, well done you. It's the little changes we all need to make and stick to. I have a bit of a habit of weighing too often.. Weighed this morning and was 15.1, yesterday I was 15.2, I know I shouldn't weigh everyday but it keeps me on track.

OctopusArmEnvy · 06/05/2015 11:28

Well done Fox! You are right toast it's the little changes that will all add up. I am hoping that as its little changes I can stick to it for life not just to my target weight but that could be alittle ambitious ;-)
I'm using my fitness pal to just be honest about what I am eating as much as a calorie target but still trying to keep within limits. Don't think I will manage today though as no exercise planned so no chance to be given extra calories to eat ;-) xx

Foxongiraffe · 06/05/2015 16:41

Thank you Octopus. I have got mfp but not great and keeping up with tracking stuff. Ran 5 miles today non stop for the first time in my life. So bloody chuffed. I just keep thinking that each week that i lose weight it will make running easier. Hope everyone ok today and on track.

ToastMakesMeHappy · 07/05/2015 16:51

I was 15.0 again this morning.. Went up 2lbs in two days, then back down again on two days. Hmm hope everyone is being good!

ClubSmed · 07/05/2015 16:57

Your body will fluctuate daily, that's why you should only weigh yourself once a week on the same day and time (roughly)

MorrisZapp · 07/05/2015 22:40

Hello! I'd love to lose a pound a week. I've taken up running but I want to 'bank' my exercise calories instead of eating them back.

Are the one pound a weekers sticking to calorie restrictions or just being good/ careful, cutting out crap etc?

Foxongiraffe · 08/05/2015 07:51

Hello Morris. I have made a few small changes - joined gym, cut out evening carbs, no snacking, reduced alcohol. Having said that I am.still cooking similar dinners and not calorie counting. I have lost about 1-1 1/2 pounds a week for three weeks now. Slow and steady is great as it can carry on and nothing will end.

hambo · 11/05/2015 11:09

Hello, not sure if you guys are still weighing in each Tuesday? Can I join in?!
Starting weight : 10 st 12
Current weight : 10 st 12
Short term goal : 10 st 4
Long terms goal : 9st 7

I cut out sugar which I found easy...but replaced it with cheese! Not the slimmest move. I am from today going to eat soup for lunch instead of crackers and cheese (800 calories for lunch!!!!!)

I have a holiday in 8 weeks, so if I can lose 8 - 10 lbs by then I will be very pleased!

OctopusArmEnvy · 12/05/2015 11:33

Urghhh!! Potty training my middle child all week. Chaos and mess led to the odd biscuit here and there :-( excuses excuses I know but does explain the 1lb gain this morning :-( I really need to learn to deal with things without turning to sweet treats!
Starting weight : 161lb
Current weight : 159 (1lb gain)
Short term goal : 154lb
Long term goal : 133 lb
Good luck everyone else!
Xx

MorrisZapp · 25/05/2015 18:54

I was 11 stone 6 a few weeks ago. Was a major shock! Went down to 11 stone 2 after a few days - suspect water weight etc.

Maintained the 11 stone 2 for two weeks, weighed this morning and am now 11 stone 1!

Problem with such tiny losses is it's easy to lose heart when the scales go up again. Am trying to plot a chart for one pound loss a week over a few months.

Mollli · 25/05/2015 22:48

Hambro and Morris Well done. Im starting so will weigh in next Monday or maybe Sunday?

I fell of the wagon a few times this week so am relieved I went down even a tiny bit!!

Not2bObvious · 06/06/2015 06:53

Can I join you guys? I'm following the 5:2 plan and losing around .4 of a pound a week (lack of discipline coupled most likely the culprit!) I weigh in on Fridays and would love to see 1 pound down by next Friday:
Start weight 12.2
First Goal by 31.07 (8 weeks) 11.8
If I don't manage to up my game I'll be looking at less that 3.5 pounds which ok would be better than nowt or gaining but really truly I have to stop faffing about.
See you next Friday, I will do it (stern determined face)

Not2bObvious · 06/06/2015 06:54

Lack of discipline coupled with lots of food! D'oh, a preview is always a good idea when you can't edit your post!

hambo · 08/06/2015 07:26

Starting weight : 10 st 12
Last weeks weight : 10 st 8.4 lbs
This week: 10 st 7.8lb
Short term goal : 10 st 4
Long terms goal : 9st 7

Lost 0.6 lbs this week.
Lost 4.2lbs total

Hope to see you on Friday weigh in Not2bObvious!!

Not2bObvious · 13/06/2015 20:01

Oh dear, stayed the same after all my hopes (who knew overrating beats hope Hmm)
Anyway. Let's go again, my new week started again, changing my mindset and my weight loss week now starts on Sunday with Friday as a day off after weigh in, sounds like an idea maybe? Recalculated my mfp goals, so I'm allowed up to 1570 a day in order to lose .5lb a week, that's calculated on a sedentary lifestyle which I don't have, I'd say I'm moderately active but thinking this might work (as long as I stick to it) Hoping to shave the odd 100 here and there so Friday can be funday! Hambo, any joy?

hambo · 15/06/2015 07:32

Starting weight : 10 st 12
Last weeks weight : 10 st 7.8 lbs
This week: 10 st 5.8lb
Short term goal : 10 st 4
Long terms goal : 9st 7

Lost 2 lbs this week.
Lost 6.2lbs total

Staying the same weight is ok Not2bObvious. At least it is not going up! Best of luck for this week.

cawoo2 · 15/06/2015 10:32

Hi everyone. I am so glad I found this message board. I finally hit 10 stone on Sunday and decided enough was enough. I am 5'4" and a stone and half has crept on over the last few years through comfort eating.
I aim to lose a stone in total - half a stone by August and the rest by my birthday on 21 September so I really have something to celebrate.
I am writing down what I eat as a reality check and trying to think in terms of healthy food rather than diet. I am also aiming to do 10000 steps on 5 days of the week.
Good luck to everyone x

Not2bObvious · 15/06/2015 15:52

Well done Hambo! I was doing 5:2 for the last month having done it for 1.5 years about a year ago but it's just not working for me this time around. Getting to hungry and when I'd just about made it through my fast day, I'd find myself milling through a few hundred extra cals! So I'm now going to aim for good old fashioned calorie counting (if I said this already sorry, exhausted today)
So far so good today anyway, did lose the plot a bit yesterday, blaming the sun and the wine and bulmers light and vodka/cranberry

Not2bObvious · 19/06/2015 06:26

Update time (not sure if anyone is still doing this, hambo you there?)
Starting weight : 12st 2lbs
Last weeks weight : 12st 2lbs
This week: 11st13.6lbs
Short term goal : 11st7lbs
Long terms goal : 9st11lbs

Loss of 2.4 this week. Absolutely thrilled!!!

cawoo2 · 19/06/2015 09:52

Well done Not2bObvious! You should be very proud of yourself. A good - but sensible - amount to lose.
Have you got a treat planned?
Keep on keeping on.

hambo · 19/06/2015 10:07

Hello! That is brilliant NotToBe!! It is nice to see a new low number on the scales. I weigh in on mondays so will be back in a few days. Enjoy your weekend!!

Not2bObvious · 19/06/2015 10:14

Thanks guys, I'm thrilled to be finally back under 12 stone. Hmmm treat - well now that you say it I'm toying with the idea of a wander about the shops at lunchtime. That will mean a 20 minute walk as well! I'm having the same style lunch as I've had all week but will have some Wine with dinner. Keeping to c 1500 cals worked good for me Grin
