Just got a new work skirt in a size 20 and it's too tight!! I am gutted. I got down to a lovely size 12 after dc4 and I've slowly gained and gained and here I am :(

While I was in hospital after DC4, I was moaning about how much weight I had to lose and a lovely midwife said, 'all you have to do, is eat a bit less and do a bit more, and you will lose weight', so that's what I did. I lost 4 stone ! I didn't follow any diet, just ate less and did more.

Well since then, I have lost my way and have obviously reversed the idea and have been eating a bit more and doing a bit less Blush but I know I can do it this way so I'm going to try again. Anyone want to join me?

I was going to start after Easter but, inspired by the tight skirt, I have started today! So, I've weighed myself and have written it in my diary and :

Eat less: I had a small bowl of porridge and an apple for breakfast instead of my usual 2 slices of buttery toast, I had one biscuit instead of, erm, 6 mid morning, I had a sandwich and a satsuma instead of a sandwich and a bag of crisps at lunch and for dinner, I had spag bol like the rest of the family but had a much smaller portion instead of matching my DH and teenage DC portion size and one small piece of garlic bread instead of three Blush. Evenings are my absolute danger time but tonight I've had nothing :)

Do more: I took the dog for a half hour walk instead of a 10 minute 'round the block'.

So, that's how I'm going to try and drop 4 dress sizes....anyone want to join me? :)

Morning, Im another trying not to fall back into the habit of calorie counting.
I had a chocolate Thorntons ice cream yesterday, but I didnt have it in a cone and no chocolate sauce Grin I walked around town with DD2 and took the dog out for 40 minutes.
I definitely feel better for cutting out a lot of the sugar I woukd usually eat.

RoosterCogburnIsInTheJakes · 11/04/2015 10:53

I'm also resisting the urge to log into MFP and calorie count.

I'm trying really hard to get into the mindset of walking more.
Yesterday I was in work and when I wanted some lunch I walked into town. Usually (term time) I don't have enough time to do so and I nearly got into the car just out of habit.
The weather is beautiful here so I'm going to do some gardening

Howhardcanitbe · 11/04/2015 16:41

I'm struggling a bit with it being the weekend - had wine last night, which then led to crisps and chocolate Easter eggs..!!

I'm thinking about 5:2 (or even 4:3) and then at least I could have some days where I didn't have to think about what I was eating all the time. I've also got the Rotation Diet book, which from memory is quite hardcore for 3 weeks, but is effective, and then you have a break from it. Going to look into both those options and decide on a plan of action...

unlucky83 · 11/04/2015 17:45

I'm still trying to do this - but not calorie count or go on runs etc- just not eat something that I would and walk/move a tiny bit more...
I read/heard something about the first part of successfully getting weight under control is getting to the point where you are no longer gaining. Get used to that weight before trying to get the weight off.
So far (school hols) no school run walk but I've been walking to the shop rather than driving...and eating just a tiny bit less - my downfall are dorritos (cool or hint of lime one) I put a few in a bowl to eat but I find myself refilling the bowl until the bag is empty! So I've been not buying them (been buying plain ones instead and will stop at one bowl).
I also bought some cake at a fundraising coffee morning -its my favourite and it was a big slab. But I've cut it up into small pieces (quarter a portion size) and frozen it - I get one piece out and defrost it if I want something sweet.
In fact going for my regular blood test I cycled with DD2 rather than drove...its only about 1.5 miles each way but there is a steep hill to get up/down - we tackled the hill first (then can go more or less flat across the top) DD2 can't get her bike (no gears) up it so she was pushing - the first bit took 3 x as long as I thought it was going to I was Shock we were going to be very late! So we ended up working up a serious sweat/getting out of breath rushing but made it just in time! Then spoiled it by popping into the cafe for cake on the way home Blush. I did realise if the weather is ok (and without DD2 to add to the stress) it was actually pretty painless - I could probably do it more often.
I am also supposed to be walking/cycling into work - about 10 mins walk away but up a gradual (on a bike thigh killing) hill, I need to go in once or twice a week (I mainly work from home) but recently either the weather has been lousy or I have had something bulky to carry or I have been in a hurry or on my way somewhere else...going to work on that too.
Even just the tiniest things - DD2 was on a playdate yesterday and the parent offered to drop her off with us at the end - but I went to get her....only 5 mins but a walk I wouldn't have done otherwise...
Tiny changes but feeling positive...

So back from London and have eaten far too much... But also walked our legs off. Reckon we did 16-18 miles in 3 days, plus all 528 steps to the top of St. Paul's cathedral. Feel rather bloated from all the carbs but not put any weight on. Back to work on mon so back to it in earnest then.

lastqueenofscotland · 11/04/2015 21:43

is it too late for me to join? :)

Not overweight (5ft 7 and 10st) but would be happier about half a stone down and NEED TO STOP EATING CRAP

today i basically ate carb and tried to justify a full on carb load cause i ran 5k... doesn't work like that i don't think!!!

Cocolepew · 11/04/2015 22:24

Im the same Unlucky, I'm not dieting Im changing my eating habits. I ate too much rubbish and my portions were too big. Ive joined the walking thread too and have reached the 10,000 steps goal with 2 walks today Smile

Its never too late QueenofScotland Grin

didireallysaythat · 12/04/2015 00:40

So after a week I can report that having to go to work ruins my step count. I can't get close to 10000 on a work day but fine on an off work day. I'll just have to quit my job, right ? Smile

MamOfTwo · 12/04/2015 09:27

Work just gets in the way of stuff doesn't it didireallysaythat?! So I did my first weigh-in after eating less and moving more and I have lost 6lbs! Yay. Started at x.13 and now x.7 (too embarrassed to put actual weight on here!). I am pleased but I have form for losing a lot in the first week or two of a diet and then piling it back on as I tell myself I deserve a treat for losing and then one treat turns into eleventy million. Back to normal routine of school and work from tomorrow. Wonder if that will be easier or harder? How is everybody getting on? Well, I hope. Good luck all! Smile

DrHarleenFrancesQuinzel · 12/04/2015 09:50

Ive been rubbish at this.

I just keep eating.

Well it changes from tomorrow. No today. No more eating when Im not hungry just because it looks nice.

Been to Insanity earlier this week, but pulled my leg and it hurt to walk for a couple of days. Im OK now though. Back to proper exercise this week then.

lastqueenofscotland · 12/04/2015 10:31

Started off today with a 2 mile run. Crumpet x2 for breakfast

think I'm having veggie ravioli for lunch and stuffed mushrooms for supper.

and NO CHOCOLATE (i will end up having chocolate)

unlucky83 · 12/04/2015 11:10

Well I fell off yesterday evening ...local shop within walking distance doesn't have a big range (limited bread, fruit etc) really could do with going to the shop slightly further away.
It takes an hour to walk but could have cycled... but then a bit windy (especially for DD2 -wobbly anyway) and if I cycled she'd want to go too. And I could have just walked to the nearest shop for milk and some bread.... After dithering for ages what to do it was too late to do anything but drive and then they had cool doritos on special...Sad
Never mind today is another day...weather is lousy but sure we can do something...(thinking of buying an exercise bike - even 5 mins a day would make a difference...)

Cocolepew · 12/04/2015 11:46

Well done Mamoftwo! I havent weighted myself yet, need to remember to do it before breakfast Grin

I had a bit iof chocolate last night, Im not depriving myself of any type of food, Im just eating less of it. If I cut stuff out I will binge on it after a few day.

Howhardcanitbe · 12/04/2015 13:05

I'm doing a 500 cal 'fast' day today, going fine so far. I also made it to my exercise class this morning, which is just as well as the weather is too awful to get out for a walk. Not sure if I belong here now though, if I'm doing 5:2?

MillieMoodle · 12/04/2015 18:22

Well yesterday was a write off, barely moved and ate too much chocolate. Meh. Today hasn't been too bad but I haven't moved a great deal. I shall start with a new resolve from tomorrow! Promise! I've got 9 weeks til my holiday and I seriously need to be less wobbly by then.

This week I will also try drinking more water as sometimes I think I'm hungry but actually I'm thirsty. Also I've recently come off the pill as we are ttc no.2 and my skin is a mass of spots. Nice. Hopefully more water will help clear it up!

MegBusset · 12/04/2015 22:18

I was out all day yesterday with friends on a girlie shopping day... failed on the 'eating less' (don't even ask) but I did walk the length of Oxford Street and around loads of shops so that's got to count as 'moving more'!

Back to being good today, I even passed up the hotel cooked breakfast and had grapefruit and Special K instead

Pippidoeswhatshewants · 14/04/2015 18:05

I am slinking back in - holidays are not the ideal time to start, but I have tried to stop snacking. My meals are ok, it's the snacking that is my downfall!
Done a bit of walking, gardening and tennis with the kids. Better than nothing, Star for me!

MamOfTwo · 14/04/2015 22:55

So, I unwrapped Davina's Fit in 15 earlier and did the cardio section! It was quite tricky as a) I am not as fit as Davina and b) I had my four year old hanging off my leg, quite literally. Grin When do others fit in fitness DVDs??

nicknamenonsense · 15/04/2015 07:33

Hi, I'd like to join please. I have been trying to do this for a couple of weeks but could do with some motivation as beginning to wain!
Started off by wanting to lose a stone, (was 10st10lbs) first 2lbs fell off (not entirely sure how!) so then set myself a goal of another 7lbs by the end of the month. But it is bloody hard work!! A few days with anything social planned seem to derail previous efforts! DH's birthday tomorrow and then out with a group of friends on Fri eve and am already feeling like this will undo my good efforts of the last few days :(
Am taking my trainers to work with me today and am going to walk for half an hour at lunchtime to get my steps up and 'move more'

Cocolepew · 15/04/2015 13:38

I went for a swim after work today and I'll take the dog out this afternoon.
I haven't weighted myself but have lost a chin and the fat band under my bra StarGrin

MegBusset · 15/04/2015 17:49

I have lost 5lb so far :) have finally shaken off my yucky virus so will try not to fall into the wine and chocolate now I'm feeling better!

didireallysaythat · 15/04/2015 19:02

Am I a coward ? I'm moving more, I'm eating less but I'm frightened about weighing myself. If I haven't lost I worry I'll lose heart. Of course if I have I'll be happy and more likely to continue !

nicknamenonsense · 15/04/2015 19:59

I know exactly how you feel didireally! When I set myself the goal of 7lbs in April I did consider not weighing myself until the end of the month as I didn't want to lose heart if I hadn't lost as much as I had hoped. My Mum and DH persuaded me otherwise and it's been good so I would say go for it, you will probably be pleased :)

didireallysaythat · 16/04/2015 08:12

Alas I stepped on the scales. Under my calories on mfp for a week, over 10000 steps for 6 out of 7 days and put on 2 lbs. Rats !

Sukebind · 16/04/2015 13:15

Well, I had a rubbish weekend. The kerfuffle with DDs' dance show meant we were too tired too cook Friday night and it was so late so we had Chinese take-away and then we had pizza express before the show (no starter or dessert - not that that made much difference by this stage) and then veggie burgers and chips for dinner. Dreadful!

But now the dc are back at school things are going better... back to the school run which is a mile each way and I had to do a load of walking Tuesday as the car had its mot and my dd needed to go to the gp. Did a load more walking and a run yesterday and today and trying to eat better. Still very tempted to diet properly or MFP but am resisting!
