Anyone up for a 'eat a bit less, do a bit more' thread?

Just got a new work skirt in a size 20 and it's too tight!! I am gutted. I got down to a lovely size 12 after dc4 and I've slowly gained and gained and here I am :(

While I was in hospital after DC4, I was moaning about how much weight I had to lose and a lovely midwife said, 'all you have to do, is eat a bit less and do a bit more, and you will lose weight', so that's what I did. I lost 4 stone ! I didn't follow any diet, just ate less and did more.

Well since then, I have lost my way and have obviously reversed the idea and have been eating a bit more and doing a bit less Blush but I know I can do it this way so I'm going to try again. Anyone want to join me?

I was going to start after Easter but, inspired by the tight skirt, I have started today! So, I've weighed myself and have written it in my diary and :

Eat less: I had a small bowl of porridge and an apple for breakfast instead of my usual 2 slices of buttery toast, I had one biscuit instead of, erm, 6 mid morning, I had a sandwich and a satsuma instead of a sandwich and a bag of crisps at lunch and for dinner, I had spag bol like the rest of the family but had a much smaller portion instead of matching my DH and teenage DC portion size and one small piece of garlic bread instead of three Blush. Evenings are my absolute danger time but tonight I've had nothing :)

Do more: I took the dog for a half hour walk instead of a 10 minute 'round the block'.

So, that's how I'm going to try and drop 4 dress sizes....anyone want to join me? :)

That sounds useful! Have not got an iphone, but I like the pedometer idea. Will google!

Happy Easter everyone.
We went to a friend's for dinner but I didn't eat to excess. I've spent the afternoon gardening and I'm going to take the dog our for an extra walk.

I wear a pedometer that records my steps and it's quite frightening how few steps I take some days. Mine links to my iPhone, last Summer I was aiming for 10,000 steps a day and I felt so much better but then I let it slide.
I need to get back on track. Hopefully the lighter evenings and good weather will help.

Does anyone use a nutribullet? I keep looking at them and wonder if that would help me to eat in a healthier fashion.

Cocolepew · 05/04/2015 17:22

Hi can I join? I need at least 2 stone off. Ive been piling it on due to steroids and medication. But I seem to have no self control at night Blush
I need to lose weight to see if it helps with joint pain, my knees are killing me.
Ive cut down my working hours, so have 2 and a half days off. I have a dog and Im trying to walk a bit more everyday with her.
I need to lay off the chocolate, or at least cut down and watch my portion control.

Cocolepew · 05/04/2015 17:23

Rooster Im in a Lupus FB group and a couple of the members swear by the nutribullet.

RoosterCogburnIsInTheJakes · 05/04/2015 17:25

Thanks Cocolepew - that's good to hear.
I'm worried it will become another piece of kitchen equipment that I don't really use like the juicer and coffee maker and bread maker etc etc

I'm working on the premise a juice would be the equivalent of a cold soup so I could take one to work instead of having sandwiches.

Pippidoeswhatshewants · 05/04/2015 17:38

Hi Coco, my weight gain is partly down to steroids, plus I had to give up running because I was just too wiped out.
I am tapering now, still feel tired and achey because of the tapering, but I know that moving more would actually make me feel better...

MillieMoodle · 05/04/2015 17:45

Well we have had a lazy day I'm afraid. We had a roast dinner about 2.30pm and I had fewer roast potatoes than I usually would. Also I have been drinking water or tea today and not had anything fizzy. We didn't get out for a long walk as DH has a cold and my back has been bad this afternoon. We are going to go in the morning instead. I am still hoping to do 15 mins on the exercise bike tonight though! Will report back later on Smile

Cocolepew · 05/04/2015 18:01

Its a pain isnt it Pippi?
My lupus affects my thyroid but taking thyroid medication won't help Hmm.
I carry most of my weight on my thighs and now have a belly, I've been a weird shape since my hysterectomy Grin

Flingingmelon · 05/04/2015 18:42

So again, managed the move more bit but screwed up the eat less. DS didn't want the cheese on toast he demanded and I ate it. Why didn't I sling it out? Blush

DrHarleenFrancesQuinzel · 05/04/2015 19:22

So I didn't go for my run today, but I did mow the lawns instead. I was out there for just over an hour. Apparently a quick google search tells me that's 250-350 calories. So about a 2.5 - 3.5 mile run.

Have managed to eat a bit less today. Mainly by not finishing off DD2's dinner. Also have not touched the cheesecake that is in the fridge.

Ive never used a pedometer. TBH Im a bit worried that it wouldn't count the steps exactly. It may miss a step here and there, it may register a step when Ive not taken one (may have just wiggled my leg)

Regarding a Nutribullet. I wanted one, but got a blender instead for less than £17. Im not saying that its as good as a nutribullet, but its good enough for me. Im rubbish at eating enough fruit and veg and this is a really good way of getting them in me. I did have the intentions of smoothie for breakfast and lunch, but I always ate something as well for lunch so its just a smoothie for breakfast. Might go back to a smoothie for lunch later on assuming that I will lose weight anyway and will need further help to lose more weight, but it will be instead of food and not every day.

MamOfTwo · 05/04/2015 19:27

So I weighed myself this morning and was, frankly, shocked! I was xst 13lb (too embarrassed to put actual weight on t'internet!) but rather than eat my own body weight in chocolate to console myself I thought of this thread and decided to start 'elmming' today rather than my usual 'I'll start tomorrow'. We out for a family meal and I declined dessert, but haven't moved that much other than usual walking. Re:pedometers - I have one and love it. It's quite easy to clock up steps when you have school runs/work commute etc - I wonder how many steps you need to do for weight loss. Think I read somewhere it was more than the 10,000. Thanks again for starting this thread librarycard - I am feeling positive.

MillieMoodle · 05/04/2015 21:50

Eek, I've fallen off the wagon already Blush
Haven't been on my exercise bike this evening as my back is still bad. I've also eaten a bit too much chocolate and had two hot cross buns for my tea.
Back on the wagon again tomorrow, I promise!
I have got an Up activity band which monitors steps and sleep patterns. I was really good at using it for the first month but have been less good recently. I will start again with renewed enthusiasm from tomorrow!
Smile

HappyHippyChick · 05/04/2015 22:41

Well I succeeded in the eat less part today because my ds4 (3 years old) caught the top of his thumb in the back door when I was about a third of the way through my meal and we needed to take him to a&e. He has to go back tomorrow and have a GA and have plastics deal with the damage Sad.

AChickenCalledKorma · 06/04/2015 09:01

Good morning everybody. Hope HappyHippyChick's son gets good care today. Sounds sore and scary Sad

Just signing in to remind myself that it is no longer Easter Sunday and I don't need to eat all the leftover baking in one sitting. Have planned a long walk and picnic with the family. DD2 is also a bit overweight and I think it's time for a family approach. Also, if I hear any more sibling bickering over the tiny Easter eggs that DH hid (too well) in the garden, I will go insane.

Cocolepew · 06/04/2015 09:18

Good morning.
I hope your son is ok happyhippy, thats sounds very sore Flowers

Ive had a toasted cinnamon bagel and a banana for breakfast.
I usually eat the same breakfast and lunches. Its the eating inbetween and at night that is my downfall.

Im going to try to walk the dig this morning and then we are strolling around botanical gardens this afternoon.

sassytheFIRST · 06/04/2015 09:50

Poor little fella, hope it goes ok today, happy chick.

Ate loads yesterday but had a lovely day with family. Today we have tea at I laws but can be sensible elsewhere so will do just that. Going for a walk with my dad and the kids shortly, followed by a light lunch and no snacking. Will weigh in tomoz. It's all about getting my head in the right place tbh, that's the deal this week before I'm back at work next Monday.

MillieMoodle · 06/04/2015 12:51

Hi all!
I hope your son is ok Happy, that sounds painful.
I have been for a long walk with DH and DS this morning, we did nearly 2 miles round our village and the fields nearby. It's a lovely sunny day here!
My back is feeling ok today, so hoping to do 15 mins on the exercise bike later on.
Haven't eaten much less yet - I think that will be easier when I get back to work tomorrow!

HappyHippyChick · 06/04/2015 12:52

Thanks everyone, he's sleeping off the anaesthetic at the moment, I didn't bring any food and I don't want to leave him so eating less is going really well today!

MamOfTwo · 06/04/2015 17:10

Best wishes to your boy, Happy - hope he bounces back quickly. Sunny day here too which makes me feel positive and reminds me that I don't want to be this weight in really hot temperatures!

Cocolepew · 06/04/2015 18:01

I had 5 GF cracker with cheese and grapes for lunch and 5 oatcakes with peanut butter and an apple for tea.
I have to watch my portion size so only put half the peanut butter than I usually would.
Hoping not to eat anything else Hmm

Notfastjustfurious · 06/04/2015 19:42

Goodness Happy, your poor wee boy. I have a 3yo too - as of today anyway - so know how horrible that must have been. I've done not bad today considering a birthday lunch and cake has been on the go. Loads of walking round a huge park yesterday and along the beach promenade today so definitely more than usual and lot of it while carrying my 9 month old as she wasn't in the buggy mood. Hoping this good weather keeps up.

I've tried a pedometer before but found I struggled to set it up for my stride and it made steps up, could have been it was just a really rubbish one though.

Flingingmelon · 06/04/2015 23:03

Hope all well Happyhippy; maybe this should be an diet/accident prone toddler support group? Mine is sporting a big scar on his head after splitting it open last week. I hope your DS heals quickly.

So no run today but miles and miles of walking. Ill be glad to see the back of birthday cake...

RoosterCogburnIsInTheJakes · 06/04/2015 23:20

Hope he's recovering well Happy, what an eventful weekend.

I've weighed myself and am truly appalled so I really need to be serious about the whole eat less move more
I'm on holiday at the moment so it isn't too bad, when I go back to work I find it much harder because if Im not organised I tend to eat crisps and biscuits when I get home.

didireallysaythat · 06/04/2015 23:46

OK I lurked beforehand but I've had my birthday today so now it's time to relocate my mojo and do something (move more, eat less). Bit of a challenge as I'm out for lunch this week and the fridge lacks vegetables, and no internet shopping until the weekend. Time to make soup I guess. Davina's 7 should arrive tomorrow - fingers crossed it doesn't annoy me too much....

MillieMoodle · 07/04/2015 13:04

Hi all
Didn't get my 15 mins on the exercise bike done last night, as had emergency dash to vets with bunny (any excuse, eh?!).
Managed to get out for a walk this lunchtime so had some fresh air and exercise.
Had cereal for breakfast (Aldi's version of Special K), a teeny mini egg as a snack, a marmite sandwich, 2 kiwi fruits and some grapes for lunch so not doing too badly! Not sure what is for tea yet but I need to try to remember to involve vegetables!
