So, I'm changing my life on Monday...

Well, that's what I hope. Am currently overweight. I am tall so can carry it quite well, but I always feel very flabby and am uncomfortable with my size. I have lost weight successfully before so I know I can do it, but have lacked a bit of motivation and willpower in the last year. Gradually my weight has crept up and trying on clothes yesterday was not fun!!

My plan is this:
Food diary - am a mindless eater
Drink more water - tend to eat when I am actually thirsty
Move more - this will be the biggest change. I work FT now and move much less within my everyday life. I now need to factor in exercise as it is no longer part of my day to day life.

I would like to lose 14 pounds in total, but am going to start with 7 pounds as my first goal!

So, anyone care to join me?

Welcome YerTiz. :)

Welcome YerTiz

First I have always found mfp really accurate with food calories but wildly out with exercise ones. I use the barcode scanner for food and that always matches the calories. It's horrible when you are hungry and have no calorie left!

RunningKatie · 26/02/2015 16:24

Yes to mfp, good with calories, terrible with exercise. I try not to eat all the exercise calories although it's tempting!

My Davina dvd arrived today so will attempt that tomorrow am, I'll try and get up before the dc to do it.

I'm trying to stick to this, I really want a glass of wine tonight but I'm out tomorrow and will be definitely having a couple so tonight will be soda water.

YerTiz · 26/02/2015 16:36

Thanks for the welcome Smile

Yes I try and use the mfp barcode scanner wherever possible. I'm going to be 110 calories over today Sad but I haven't put in exercise as I don't want an excuse to eat more!

DS made me walk to the park this afternoon as well, I was all for settling on the sofa and watching a film Grin

FirstOfficerDouglasRichardson · 26/02/2015 17:19

:( I need to get better at finding less calorific things to eat then. I'm trying to find something for dinner that will be within the calories but I suspect I will go over.

When you say it's rubbish with respect to exercise, does it over estimate or under estimate how many you're burning off?

Ellisisland · 26/02/2015 17:30

Over estimate - massively ! It has you burning off hundreds of calories for 20 minutes of exercise. Personally I don't put exercise into mfp anymore as it was messing up my calories.

Running I have been doing the Davina and I think it's really good. I can definitely feel it the next day when I do it.

RunningKatie · 26/02/2015 17:50

Definitely overestimates, I used a garmin when I went running and that gave me a more sensible figure.

I log my exercise because it gives me that boost of saying "i did that" Smile

I've not done it yet as I am a seasoned snacker but have you tried logging all your planned meals in first thing so you can tweak each meal a bit?

FirstOfficerDouglasRichardson · 26/02/2015 18:09

That's good to know but in a :( way. My DH has a harm in watch thingy somewhere, I'll ask him to dig it out.

DakotaFanny · 26/02/2015 18:42

Managed a bike ride and a walk today, despite the rain....good!

Was ridiculously unfit and embarrassed on anything approaching a hill....bad!

Another good food day....good!

Sat on loo at work today and looked down at the mahusive roll of flab settling on my lap from my belly....very, very bad!

Peony58890 · 26/02/2015 20:11

If you have an iphone you can track walking and running calories on the runkeeper app.

I've always been utterly rubbish at tracking my calorie intake on Mfp. However I can see that it's working well for me this week and I'm going to use it for a month or two to help me adjust my eating habits.

I've been slightly over each day so far but today Despite having eaten my tea, my calorie intake is only 800!? Very odd.

Late breakfast was a banana and a few almonds. I struggle to eat anything first thing usually.

Lunch was left over roasted ham and a pile of veg with French dressing.

Tea was a vegetarian lentil and vegetable dish.

Going to have a pudding and a G&T before bed. Not sure what pudding but there's no way I'm sticking at a stupidly low 800. I'd feel deprived very quickly.

How? How? How? :(. Off to google low calorie foods. :)

Peony58890 · 26/02/2015 21:36

Yes it's weird! My lunch and tea was essentially a palmful of protein plus tons of veg. I've not felt hungry oddly and now have had a few evening snacks to get my calories up a bit

FirstOfficerDouglasRichardson · 26/02/2015 21:45

Vegetables it is then! :)

My day today 1504 calories. Sigh. But... Again only fruit for snacks. I haven't eaten chocolate since Sunday and that is a miracle for me. :) run 3 of week 1 couch to 5k tomorrow. Wish me luck. I'm achy. Still no scales?!

Runnaway · 26/02/2015 22:03

Checking in at 1,238 today. Not too bad. Don't feel much lighter as Monday looms, but surely I can't get heavier!!!
Hoping to be more active at the weekend!

First officer. Well done! Making a start with running is the hardest part.

I don't weigh myself generally as I find it demotivating but I will this weekend because I'm feeling a bit more in control of my eating

Peony58890 · 26/02/2015 22:20

What are you planning this weekend running?

fibromum · 27/02/2015 08:04

Morning. Bit late but checking in with yesterdays results.

Calories were 1,398 so over my goal but not as bad as I thought it would be seeing as we had a mcdonalds fir dinner Sad

I have fibromyalgia and yesterday I was feeling really bad so gave in to temptation and of course it was easier than standing in the kitchen cooking. Must do better.

Step count was 2,078 but since I was in my bed till 1pm thats not bad.

I'm away this weekend with friends for a birthday so will find it hard to keep track of my calories but will do my best to not go OTT Smile

YerTiz · 27/02/2015 10:30

Well done everyone that's running. I HATE running but have heard good things about Couch to 5k.

One of my family members has fibromyalgia fibro, it's rubbish. Hope you're feeling a wee bit better today. Best to do as your body tells you.

I'm finding it easier calorie wise to put my full day's food plan into mfp (think someone suggested that upthread?) - have you seen how many calories are in a baked potato?? ShockConfused I'm going to try having half and upping my tuna and veg a bit so it's still filling.

RunningKatie · 27/02/2015 12:22

Have a lovely weekend fibro.

I bought a smaller pair of jeans yesterday. Technically I can do them up, as long as breathing is optional. There was a severe spreading of muffin top Sad

Bread is really calorie laden too, but I cut right back on my lunches and then it meant I was snacking all afternoon. Still looking for the right balance.

Couple of glasses of wine tonight as I'm off out, it'll put me over calories-wise but I need a jolly night in good company.

FirstOfficerDouglasRichardson · 27/02/2015 14:23

I actually find the 'running' quite pleasant, in a weird kind of way. Having said that as I'm only in week 1 it's not really running it's 5mins brisk walking, 60sec running and 90sec walking on repeat for 25mins and then a final 5 mins brisk walking again. It gets harder each week until you're essentially running all of it.

The only thing I don't like about it is that I have to do it in the dark (which is a little creepy). I have to wait for DH to come home from work and DS is in bed.

Calorie wise I've done better today with 600 still left. I think having porridge for breakfast has helped.

FirstOfficerDouglasRichardson · 27/02/2015 14:27

fibro McDonald'so is fine when you're not feeling up to it in my opinion. Hope you're feeling a bit better soon.

LetMeDriveTheBus · 27/02/2015 16:55

I'm impressed at the running first. Every evening this week I've contemplated going for one.....but haven't! Lighter evenings might help.

FirstOfficerDouglasRichardson · 27/02/2015 21:00

1410 calories today... Not too bad. :)

Peony58890 · 27/02/2015 21:22

Evening!

1116 today. I've not been as eating as healthily as usual. Its been quite a stressful week for three of my friends and it's really effected me. I actually ate 1700 but have taken 600 off for the 6 miles I ran this morning.

Do most people eat half their excersise calories back usually? I might give that a go tomorrow.

Peony58890 · 27/02/2015 21:28

Firstofficer I wish I had known about the couch to 5k/10k programme when I started running. The idea of alternating walking and running is brilliant!
