So, I'm changing my life on Monday...

Well, that's what I hope. Am currently overweight. I am tall so can carry it quite well, but I always feel very flabby and am uncomfortable with my size. I have lost weight successfully before so I know I can do it, but have lacked a bit of motivation and willpower in the last year. Gradually my weight has crept up and trying on clothes yesterday was not fun!!

My plan is this:
Food diary - am a mindless eater
Drink more water - tend to eat when I am actually thirsty
Move more - this will be the biggest change. I work FT now and move much less within my everyday life. I now need to factor in exercise as it is no longer part of my day to day life.

I would like to lose 14 pounds in total, but am going to start with 7 pounds as my first goal!

So, anyone care to join me?

I've got a pizza/movie day planned with a friend on Friday so I'm trying to be good the rest of this week. I'm off out and can get a nice salad for lunch but it's so nice I'd really like a nice glass of something with it - have no kids to be in charge of BTW :)

What's relatively low calorie??

FirstOfficerDouglasRichardson · 15/04/2015 12:28

It was surprisingly nice. I'm quite partial to Big Macs Blush. I'm home with DS this week and it's much harder controlling the eating when I'm at home. At work I seem to manage it quite easily.

Good luck at work letme.

Welcome all newcomers.

FirstOfficerDouglasRichardson · 15/04/2015 12:30

lollipop DS has friends over for a pizza lunch tomorrow (along with mums, he's 5). I plan on doing an enormous salad as well and trying to eat that mainly, but I expect some pizzas be consumed.

RunningKatie · 15/04/2015 12:45

Lollipop - long drinks are good, g&t is way better than wine. soft drinks wise i have my daily diet coke fix, despite it being bad for me, smoothies and the like are yummy but calories.

We've just been sampling the cake we made yesterday, I had the burnt bit to help out. Wink

LetMeDriveTheBus · 15/04/2015 20:28

Thanks for the good wishes First. Good but tiring day back at work so early night tonight. But I've made a nice, healthy lentil curry for lunch tomorrow.

RunningKatie · 16/04/2015 13:12

Lentil curry sounds fab.

I went a bit bonkers with jaffa cakes yesterday and today I've had a bacon sandwich to celebrate dd getting her school place.

Need to get some exercise scheduled in before it all goes wrong again.

FirstOfficerDouglasRichardson · 16/04/2015 20:36

I'm still feeling yucky, so have not been doing my c25k for ages now! :(
But keeping under calories isn't going to badly considering I'm off work for Easter hols. Hope you're all doing well and staying motivated!

DakotaFanny · 17/04/2015 11:30

Hello all! Hope all the newbies are going strong and that the oldies (?!?) are feeling better, past the pox and keeping focused.

I've had a cracking week this week- carried on with all four 30 day challenges (60second plank today made me want to weep), walked over five miles every day (managed 20,000 steps yesterday) and been strong on calories. Feeling great, feeling trimmer and stronger and 'worthier'....it better pay off on tomorrow's weigh in!!!

Back to work on Monday though, so everything could go out of the window! (Whistles!)

LetMeDriveTheBus · 17/04/2015 19:58

Dakota I've had a good week too. Fasting is definitely reducing my appetite (I'm doing 16:8). Hope the scales reward our hardwork tomorrow. Well done on the planking.

Got a nice lunch out with a friend tomorrow and will have a couple of glasses of prosecco as a treat.

DakotaFanny · 17/04/2015 22:45

Well done bus. I've heard a few good things about 16:8 including the idea of using it on holiday to keep on track- seems a good idea, apart from the fact that on holiday you tend to drink well into the evening (I presume it is all food and drink in the 8 hour slot?).... Think I might try and incorporate it food wise at least. Are you enjoying it? Are you counting calories at all in the 8 hours or just being sensible? Also seems like something that is doable for life- do you think?

Good luck tomorrow!

DakotaFanny · 18/04/2015 09:26

None. Zero. Nada. Nil. Nothing.

SadSadSad wwwwhhhhhhyhhhhhh???

According to all the stats I should have been two pounds down. I have eaten (over) 3500 calories less and I have burned (just under) 3500 through exercise = 2 pounds loss.

Why then, oh why, have I not lost a sausage???

And how am I not going to pig myself in anger and frustration today?!!?,

Pppffffftttt . Hope all other weighers have done better! X

LaiLoo · 18/04/2015 13:33

Dakota don't lose the plot yet Smile. Is it near your time of the month, that can stop weight loss showing on the scales for a good week and a half. Have you taken measurements at the beginning. You will see inches go down even when scales are not playing the weighing game.

LaiLoo · 18/04/2015 13:35

14:10 is highly recommended for women and our hormones. Marks Daily Apple.

FirstOfficerDouglasRichardson · 18/04/2015 16:11

No weight loss this week. Still 10stone 11lb. Oh well. Still didn't go up which is te main thing! :)
dakota do not lose hope - there are other factors at play in all likelihood. You will get there! :)

LetMeDriveTheBus · 18/04/2015 17:43

Oh Dakota! Easier said than done but try not to be disheartened. I expect if you'd have measured yourself you'd have seen a change in shape, even if it didn't show on the scales.

First, maintenance is good.

I've lost a pound. Less than a mid week weigh in suggested but a loss none the less. I'm 167 so 8 and 1/2 pounds off in total.

I've done lots of reading re fasting, specifically 16:8 vs 14:10. I have no concerns about any effect on my hormone levels.

Dakota, for me, in practice it's just an easy tool for cutting down calories. I eat lunch, late afternoon snack and dinner between hours of 12 and 8 (because that fits in with my life). On holiday you could break your fast later in the afternoon if you were going to eat and drink til later in the evening. Obviously I have to still eat sensibly otherwise I could easily still put weight on eating 8 hours each day!!

It definitely has reduced my appetite. It stops me picking at kids' food in the mornings. I'm very ready for lunch by 12 but I always was, even when I'd had a low GI breakfast and midmorning snack!! Weird Confused.

frownyface · 18/04/2015 23:07

Hello all. Im another 2lbs down this week :)

Havent done any excercise thus week as had lots going on at home, but have been diligently weighing everything :)

I have 170 odd cals left for this eve but id prefer not to eat this close to bed time, so here I am trying to take my mind off it!

Loving reading all about you all, I dont know about you guys but Im still finding most days hard.

Dakota have you spent any time on the MFP forums? Well worth a look even if its just at the stickys on gen health and weight loss tips. So frusteating not losing anything when you are trying so hard. You are feeling stronger, you said so yourself-hold onto that if you can! Also weightloss isnt linear, you might have eaten something high in sodium and have retained water weight, or with all your increased excercise (v impressed re the plank btw) your body might be needing the water to help repair the muscles you have been using! (This is esp true if you are working harder excercise wise than you have been before).

Hope this helps a bit.

DakotaFanny · 19/04/2015 09:42

Aah, thanks guys! Bless you all.

I had a blow out day, ate crap, drank too much. Loved it. Back on it today though- going roller skating with Dd and sticking with the challenges. Maybe next week I'll drop three, eh? Dreading going back to work and fitting it all in though.

Well done to all who have lost and good luck for tomorrow's weighers.

LetMeDriveTheBus · 19/04/2015 19:56

Well done Frowny.

Really glad you're feeling ok Dakota. I ate and drink too much yesterday which was great! Back on it too today. Hopefully you'll have a big whoosh of weight of this week Grin.

LetMeDriveTheBus · 19/04/2015 19:57

*off! not of

RunningKatie · 20/04/2015 12:30

You are doing so well Dakota, glad you had a relaxed day. All the effort you are putting in will pay off in the end.

I'm intruiged by 16:8, I normally have breakfast at 8am so would have to have my evening by 4pm. Might have a read up on it.

I've decided to enter a triathlon, this is slightly insane as I can't remember how to swim front crawl, I am a slow cyclist and the last time I ran I ended up with planatar facitis which i am still suffering from. So, got 15 weeks to fix all this and figure out how to squeeze my shape into a triathlon lycra outfit Shock

Ps. no weight loss, i am hoping it is pmt bloat, otherwise i may as well cry.

DakotaFanny · 20/04/2015 21:37

I love your post Running! Can't run, can't swim, can't cycle, but feck it, I'm doing a tri! That's the spirit!! Loads of people at my work are really into running at the moment and several of them are starting to enter triathlons. It's been very motivational for them, and I'm sure it will be for you too. I'm a little bit envious in fact....but I can't run at all. It does all kinds of nasty things to my ankles, knees and hips. Best of luck in your training.

Can anyone answer a question for me please...

In the world of calories, are all calories equal? I know clean eaters would say absolutely not and I know that obviously 100 calories of fruit is better than 100 calories of chocolate BUT in the world of weight loss, as long as you are within calorie limit, does it really matter? Like today, I've had one of those days where you just want to graze. I have stuck to within my calories, not gone over at all, but I have had two three packets of crisps, equalling 172 258 calories. Does this actually matter? I know it's not a healthy way to eat, I know I'm not teaching myself better habits, I know all that and I accept my guilt. But, in terms of losing weight, will 'bad' calories actually stall me??

Thanks for any response.

LetMeDriveTheBus · 21/04/2015 15:06

My understanding is that a calorie is a calorie. Some foods will fill you up for longer and avoid the blood sugar spike and crash. But I don't think it affects weight loss really.

FirstOfficerDouglasRichardson · 21/04/2015 18:21

I love your post Running! Can't run, can't swim, can't cycle, but feck it, I'm doing a tri!

Awesome! :)

FirstOfficerDouglasRichardson · 22/04/2015 07:36

Feeling like I've lost a stone I should give myself a break, but at the same time that's dangerous for me - I will put it all back on. So I must persevere.

Hoping for a good week this week now that I'm back at work.

DakotaFanny · 22/04/2015 07:38

I'm feeling like I'm working really hard without results. No sign of loss this week either. This is when I wobble.....
