How much do you think it's possible to lose in 10 weeks?

WhenMarnieWasThere · 15/02/2015 23:09

I have an operation in 10 weeks (unless they cancel on me!)
The operation is not dependent on my losing weight (in fact it hasn't been mentioned) but I know that I will feel happier if I can lose as much as possible between now and then.

I will be on crutches afterwards. The last time I was on crutches I was 2 stone lighter and it was annoying then.

I'm 13.5st and always used to hover about 12 st 4. I've been at a healthy weight at 11 stone.

SOooo..... I need to do this and no excuses. I have a few hiccups along the way to navigate (a couple of birthdays will involved a meal out or two and I'm away for 4 nights at Euro Disney - lots of walking but crap food).

Any ideas welcome.

I can't 5:2 as it makes me too inclined to binge.

I am digging out my old ww plan for something to follow, have bought the 7 mins Davina DVD so I have no excuse not to fit SOME exercise in the day.

1.5-2lb a week so a stone at least should be doable. I don't have an op coming up but I've ordered the davina DVD today too & really want to get myself in better shape for the summer so I'll do it with you if you like? My starting weight is 12stone.

WhenMarnieWasThere · 16/02/2015 00:49

Oh, yes please, Sweet.

I have re-started calorie counting with My Fitness Pal today. Enough is enough. My starting weight is .... 13 st 1. I want to loose 2 stone, but will set myself 1st first. Remember being 12 st this time/ year ago & being very upset about that.

I'm in it with you ladies? Extra support for each other? Diet Buddies ?

My worse time of day is 8.30 / 9pm, when I sit down to relax then I just want to stuff my face. So I'll need friendly people at the end of my fingers to tell me not to head to the kitchen cupboards.

OnceUponATimeAgain · 16/02/2015 16:40

Op - your post could have been written by me weight wise!!

I'm off on a beach break in 8 weeks - i'm at the gym 2 or 3 times a week, have moved from cardio to weights as that will 'tone' and watching what i eat!!

starsinthenight · 16/02/2015 16:42

My short-term goal is going on hols end March. 1st loss is prob too ambitious for 6 weeks (but wouldn't it be wonderful?). So I will set myself target 4 lbs by end of feb, and another 8 lbs in March. I need to be held to it!

HappyGoLuckyGirl · 16/02/2015 16:46

I think beeen 1-2lb loss is healthy. So between 10-20lb.

I'm with you, I've been trying to shift this last 8kg for ages. Fly to Majorca in May - just short of 11 weeks.

I'm using My Fitness Pal and doing JM 30 Day Shred when I can.

I feel I work harder if I'm held accountable!

HappyGoLuckyGirl · 16/02/2015 16:46

*between.

starsinthenight · 16/02/2015 16:49

Silly question Happy - where do you do your Shred? I bought the DVD, still in its wrapper though. Front room / DVD player in full view of street, and timber floor. Is it high impact?

WhenMarnieWasThere · 16/02/2015 19:43

Oh, welome in Stars, Once and Happy. :) :) :)

My downfall is usually the evening too. I have a poor 'off switch' once I start eating. I don't have breakfast (but am considering trying to restart it), eat a low fat lunch of soup and fruit with a cereal bar and then have a decent dinner. But then want to go back for seconds. Or a sweet treat.

I do far better when I have a goal in mind, a date to aim for and a real reason.

When I got to goal I did it with 3 meals, no snacking apart from a less than 200 cal something on an evening when the kids were in bed. No alcohol.

I have a fit bit and aim to notice my less active days and use it as an incentive to get off my bum.

I also have an exercise bike, which will be good for my rehab post-op as well as for building strength pre-op.... hopefully without aggravating anything. I do zumba on a Wednesday and sometimes an aquafit class on a Fri. I swim with DD some Sunday mornings. So.... I'm going to aim to do all of those for as consistently as I can over the next 10 weeks.

I'm going to use the old weightwatchers points because I got to goal with them in the past, but may also log my food onto mfp out of interest too.

Go team!

OnceUponATimeAgain · 16/02/2015 21:34

I'm having a hot chocolate tonight (with a splash of rum so I don't feelcompletely deprived of alcohol) while watching walking dead

WhenMarnieWasThere · 16/02/2015 23:18

I need to plan ahead. I think that's where I'm failing.

So.
Lie in and no breakfast as on holiday.

Then some exercise.... a walk if nice, or on exercise bike if not, or try the davina dvd if it arrives (sheep!).

Then I shall have a lean Ham and salad sandwich on crust less with fruit for lunch.

Roast chicken dinner in the evening.

A couple of small pancakes with syrup as it is shove Tues.

I shall work out the points/cals etc in the morning and adjust the details depending on what it adds up to be.

OnceUponATimeAgain · 17/02/2015 07:01

Morning ladies X

Good luck today

starsinthenight · 17/02/2015 08:22

Yes - good to have motivational goals. I fear I have left mine too late (needing to fit into ski trousers, oh and the skiing ...) in 6 weeks.

When I am focused I am OK. It's just the frustrations / disappointments life throws my way that drives me to food.

I'm going to aim for 2 lbs loss / week. Hopefully more this 1st week as my eating habits will change dramatically.

I am going to plot all calories in on MFP - set to 1200- but not use-up any extra exercise calories I earn. Just out for dog walk (dare I jog ???)

Come on ladies. We can do it!

WhenMarnieWasThere · 17/02/2015 12:35

Oh yes we can.
I'm on half term and instead of lounging around and mnetting doing housework, I've been out for a brisk walk. Every little helps. Smile

WhenMarnieWasThere · 17/02/2015 20:40

Today has gone to plan....

I went for my walk. Picked up the makings for healthier than normal pancakes (skimmed milk not semi, fry light instead of normal oil, butterscotch sauce instead of chocolate spread as I use far less of the former than the latter.)

I didn't have my sandwich for lunch as wasn't hungry, but I did have the fruit.

Had roast chicken dinner with mixed roast veg (carrots, onions, parsnips, sweet potatoes) and lots of yummy sprouts. :) :)

And have had my pancakes with sauce.

Now - the trick is not to have anything else to eat when I get bored or peckish later and to get the exercise bike out if DH heads off to bed before I do to fit in a bit more exercise.

starsinthenight · 17/02/2015 21:16

I'm going to give up sugar & wheat for lent which should help me for the next 40 days.

Means the following are off limits: sweets, chocolate, biscuits, cake, pastries, pasta, bread, jam, puddings. I will limit fruit too - as the sugars make me crave sweet things more. I'm a bit of an all-or-nothing person.

Right, there, all public. Means I have to stick to my word now!

OnceUponATimeAgain · 17/02/2015 21:28

No wine for me tonight and no rum in my cocoa either!
Had some salady stuff and a chicken Wrap
for lunch

Pasta for dinner andPancakes with lemon and sugar

(And went to the gym today)

HappyGoLuckyGirl · 18/02/2015 12:18

Well done everyone :)

stars yes, the shred is high impact. I close my blinds and have at it. I have carpet in my living room so doesn't make too much noise. You need enough space to do jumping jacks and to lie down.

How's everyone's day going so far? I'm having fresh soup with wholewheat pitta for lunch and had 20 grapes with yoghurt for breakfast.

WhenMarnieWasThere · 18/02/2015 14:14

Hello.
Good so far today. I went for a walk with dd2 around the shops and it was lovely and sunny so I was in the mood for a salad. I had prawns with low fat cocktail sauce with a big green salad 2 slices of the ww granary bread and some grapes. Very nice it was too.

It's now raining and windy.

My davina dvd has arrived, but instead if getting on with that I washed my carpets instead.
.

We have friends coming round for coffee later and there is leftover chicken and roast veg for dinner. And I shall go to Zumba tonight.

I hope everyone is having a good day. Thanks

WhenMarnieWasThere · 18/02/2015 19:57

Aaaargh.... less good. I was really looking forward to going to my zumba class but then friends arrived late and were here until 7. That's when the class starts so it was too late to even rush to make it by then. I do have a banging headache (probably as a result of very little sleep as DH snored for Britain last night) so it might be a blessing.

I shall have to find 10 mins or more of uninterrupted time to give the Davina DVD a go instead.

I had my leftovers - including whipping up another batch of pancakes to use up the rest of the skimmed milk that I bought specially.

starsinthenight · 18/02/2015 23:34

Drink plenty of water Marnie. Don't stress about missing Zumba. Just be really good on the food front tomorrow, and try and go on a long brisk walk or something tomorrow.

I'm doing OK ... fingers crossed for weigh-in next Monday!!!

WhenMarnieWasThere · 19/02/2015 18:30

Well, a sneak peek on the scales reveals I have lost.....nothing.

I blame estimating instead of weighing food, so will use my scales more. And being quite inactive compared to a normal week... exercise bike will come our again later.

Food wise, today was...challenging. My sister took me out for afternoon tea as a birthday present. A sandwich, half a scone as I shared with dd2 and a slice of lemon drizzle cake. Not sure what the damage would be from that so I'm having a very good tea.

It's cold and dreary here so it could be something comforting, like cod in parsley sauce with mash and peas. Or soup.

OP posts:
starsinthenight · 19/02/2015 21:31

How disappointing Marnie - but don't give up. Another 1/2 week to go. And it was a birthday tea celebration after all (which you couldn't refuse!).

I had a sneak peek too - I'm down 2 lbs this week already. Unbelievable. I have cut out sugar and wheat completely (except wine, obviously !!!). I have just stopped eating rubbish, cut down on carbs too. I am such an all-or-nothing person.

Spirits up ...

WhenMarnieWasThere · 19/02/2015 22:47

Well done, Stars. 2lb is a good start. not jealous at all, oh no :)

I don't drink much at all and my meals are OK, it's the evening snacking I'm trying to cut out. I've managed one, accounted for snack for the last few days and haven't gone back for more.

DH has just headed for bed and I'm going to crack open the seal on the Davina DVD. :) Try and undo some cake damage. :)

I'm not giving up. I can't. I have a very real deadline to make. And yes, I started this on Mon this week and it's only Thurs so there are a few days to go yet.

And.... this is going to be one of the most challenging weeks of the ten ahead. I'm on my feet all day at work, but not at half term so my activity level is lower, despite fitting in some exercise. And in the one week I've had my own birthday - taken out for dinner by DH and today's afternoon tea by DSis. And I'm out with friends on Sat. Busy me. :)

Not the best week to start a diet, but if I'm still the same on Monday then I will at last not have put any weight on.... although I will be cross if I am the same.

The next very challenging week will be at the end of March when I take the kids on my own to eurodisney - but there will be LOTS of walking to help there.

Fingers crossed for a good day tomorrow.

I'm also looking to lose two stone.

My weight has been pretty constant thought my adult life. I put on an excess 7lb over four pregnancies and then I got to near 40 and the weight is piling on Shock in the last year I have piled on 1.5 stone, nothing fits, I look fat, so this is it.

I lost 4 lb in January but then stagnated last three weeks so really need to refocus.
