How much do you think it's possible to lose in 10 weeks?

WhenMarnieWasThere · 15/02/2015 23:09

I have an operation in 10 weeks (unless they cancel on me!)
The operation is not dependent on my losing weight (in fact it hasn't been mentioned) but I know that I will feel happier if I can lose as much as possible between now and then.

I will be on crutches afterwards. The last time I was on crutches I was 2 stone lighter and it was annoying then.

I'm 13.5st and always used to hover about 12 st 4. I've been at a healthy weight at 11 stone.

SOooo..... I need to do this and no excuses. I have a few hiccups along the way to navigate (a couple of birthdays will involved a meal out or two and I'm away for 4 nights at Euro Disney - lots of walking but crap food).

Any ideas welcome.

I can't 5:2 as it makes me too inclined to binge.

I am digging out my old ww plan for something to follow, have bought the 7 mins Davina DVD so I have no excuse not to fit SOME exercise in the day.

I also love my fitbit - really helps see how making small changes (walking up stairs etc) can make a difference.

MercuryRising · 22/02/2015 11:52

I don't have scales that work at home, which is good because I am guilty of weighing myself frequently and eating more if I don't like what I see (ridiculous I know!) But I have just had a mid week wi at my mums and I have lost 2 pounds so far, which has motivated me to keep going. I am really hoping I can be 3 pounds down by WI on Wednesday. I am so fed up of feeling fat and frumpy!

AnotherGirlsParadise · 22/02/2015 12:33

I've got digital scales at home and they were playing up the other day - they said I was 9.5st! I was overjoyed! Then my evil DP fixed them and I came back down to Earth with a hefty bump Blush

DontGotoRoehampton · 22/02/2015 13:09

AnotherGirlsParadise Grin
My DC once changed my scales to show 1 stone heavier as an April Fool.....

Measured my waist today - is 34 inches. For my height (66 inches) should be max 33.

WhenMarnieWasThere · 22/02/2015 14:19

I've weighed. ... thanks to last night's meal out i appear to have put on this week. Hopefully it's food weight and will show better tomorrow. I can't get out of the habit of weighing myself frequently. Don't know if that's good or bad.

I've made lots of low fat, full of veg casserole for tea today and tomorrow and am getting today's exercise by doing lots of housework. Exciting.

I do have my first deadline (9 weeks tomorrow and counting- eek! ) but I've stopped thinking of it as a week by week journey.

One of the reasons I've actually cancelled my membership of weightwatchers is that I don't like thinking of having had a bad week and being tempted to blow it if the weigh in isn't going to be good. Instead it's each day that counts. Yesterday wasn't great but today I'm making up for it. Tomorrow is a new day.

AnotherGirlsParadise · 22/02/2015 15:32

Roehampton - I hope your DC were sent to bed with no dinner for that little stunt! Wink

Marnie - weighing yourself all the time is a bad idea, as your weight fluctuates over the course of the day. Seeing those fluctuations can be really demoralising - I know, I've done it! I weigh myself weekly and try to do it at the same time every morning, before breakfast (it's hard to resist the temptation to do it more often though!).

WyrdByrd · 22/02/2015 16:47

I usually weigh first thing on a Monday morning, although I haven't done so since the beginning of the year so am dreading tomorrow.

My scales are fairly accurate but my bathroom floor is a bit uneven so I need to make a note of where I put them so I can line them up the same next time.

I'd like to lose as near to 2 stone as possible in the next 9/10 weeks, but I have a much bigger mountain to climb overall.

It's the big 4-0 for me at the end of September so hopefully that & the warmer weather will help keep me on track post-op.

WhenMarnieWasThere · 22/02/2015 19:12

I do only weigh in the morning, but several times a week. I will be paying attention to what the scales show on a Monday to gauge how well my week has gone.

2nd day of my first 'good week'.

I'm going retro. I've dug out all my OLD weightwatchers stuff. It's a bit stricter than the new plan. Only (most) vegetables are free. And you don't get weekly points, just daily points. Fewer of them, but they are worth more, food wise. You can earn some with exercise and save some to account for splurge days. I like the simplicity of it and it does motivate me to get off my bum.

I got to goal on the old plan a few years ago. Then they changed it. And I started losing less weight. And finding that some dinners that I ate and successfully lost weight with were now much more 'expensive' and I couldn't fit them into my points.

So, I'm counting my points, logging what I've eaten and meal planning.

I'm about to do Davina again (that sounds rude!) and am currently at over 7000 steps on my fitbit.

It feels good to be being good. :)

Well done on such a good day MarnieSmile Tomorrow is wi for me so Im determined to stay on track today!

WyrdByrd · 24/02/2015 08:21

That sounds great Marnie!

I've weighed this morning, let's just sat Xst 1lb and I'll work backwards through the alphabet Sad Confused .

I'm about where I thought I was tbh - right back to square one after losing 17lb last year.

Not feeling hugely motivated but need to get on it - today won't be perfect as I need to go shopping - have just had a small bowl of granola for breakfast, soup & yoghurt/fruit for lunch & chicken salad for dinner.

AnotherGirlsParadise · 24/02/2015 09:57

Well done Marnie Smile I think it's a great idea, digging out your old WW stuff, especially if you had good results with it before. I've never done a formal group dieting thing like WW or SW, but I might give it a try if I get nowhere on my own.

Weighed myself today and my weight hasn't budged from the 6lbs I lost last week, which I suppose is good - at least I haven't gained! DP is setting up the exercise program he has on the PS3 for me, it's a bit like the Wii Fit, so I'm hoping to squeeze in 30 minutes each day once DS1 has gone to nursery and DS2 is napping. My Fitbit comes tomorrow, so I think I'll start it then, get off to a good start Grin

WhenMarnieWasThere · 24/02/2015 22:57

Another good day here.
I had breakfast, (I don't always) and my usual soup, fruit and cereal bar for lunch. ...scarfed down in 15 mins as I was running my recorder group at lunchtine break today.

I had made savoury brown rice yesterday so just stir fried some of that to heat it through. Yummy.

Dd did stand there and convince me that it was a crime not to have an individual sized pack of toffee popcorn when she was having one. I relented. It was nice, but didn't throw me off track.

OP posts:
WyrdByrd · 25/02/2015 19:03

How's it going today?

I got through yesterday and even managed to dish up pizza and chips to DH, DD and her friend without lapsing, but it was too cold for salad so I had a jacket potato and coleslaw with my chicken a glass of red and a chocolate muffin may have slipped in too

Better today - cereal bar and fruit for breakfast, soup & yoghurt for lunch, homemade ginger & oat cookie mid afternoon and salmon salad for dinner.

I'm already starting to feel less bloated/podgy around the middle and the better I feel the easier it'll be to stick to it so hopefully will be really on the case by the end of the week!

MercuryRising · 25/02/2015 19:24

I weighed in tonight and I have lost 2.5 pounds - I am very pleased! I just need to stay focussed. I am usually good at losing weight initially but then lose interest and go back to my old ways. I am determined this time will be different!

WhenMarnieWasThere · 25/02/2015 21:24

Well done Mercury. I'd be very happy with that.

I'm having a good day, thanks. :) I was up late so skipped breakfast and had a ww soup, fruit and a cereal bar for lunch. 2.5 points. And then some proper comfort food... fish in parsley sauce served on a bed of microwave mashed potato and petit pois. Only 6 points. I'm feeling v disciplined and in control. I even managed to get my hands on a pair of ww scales that do the old points. You tell it what food or how many cals then can add food to your plate and see how many points it is worth.

Due to eating very lightly so far, I have ten points left for the day - which is good as DD has made some jam tarts.

I've been to Zumba and I've clocked up over 10000 steps so far. :) All good.

I really fancy something sweet so have had a jam tart (hot from the oven) and may treat myself to something before bed. The zumba would have earned me extra points on the old weightwatchers, but I don't have the wherewithall to find out how many as I don't have those leaflets.

It's pizza here tonight. The kids and Dh are sharing 2 big round ones between them but I bought an individual pack of french bread ones for me so I know what I've had and can fit it into my food for the day.

Tomorrow I will have a decadent lunch out on chester and then on sat it is dds birthday. There is rather a lot of cake, so that will be a challenge. Smile

OP posts:
MercuryRising · 26/02/2015 18:48

Pizza is one of my downfalls Marnie. It's a really good idea to get the french bread ones.

I have survived two evenings of parents evening and I have an observation in the morning so I am trying desparately hard not to reach for the comfort food. I keep reminding myself that I would love another decent loss next week.

WhenMarnieWasThere · 26/02/2015 19:31

Well done on surviving parents evenings. I often get home from them and am starving. I don't know why.

Then there's stress - we are waiting for the 4 weeks notice of inspection anyday.

And that will bring extra observations before the visit.

And then there's the weeks spent sitting writing reports.

My job's bad for my health!

(I did enjoy dressing up as a Tudor lady and taking part in the Tudor day we had this week though.)

OP posts:
WhenMarnieWasThere · 26/02/2015 22:16

Pizza was nice - but I've burnt the roof of my mouth eating it.

I'm finishing the day well in control. I have no idea what is different this time, but it's the first time I've not self-sabotaged whatever diet I'm doing. Not that I'm complaining.

I made toast for breakfast, but between cleaning out the rabbits and other morning jobs, it got forgotten. Lunch was the usual (I have the same all winter - soup, fruit, cereal bar. In the summer it's salad, fruit, cereal bar. I don't get bored) 2.5 pts. Milk for the day 2.5 pts. Pizza 10 pts. Some of the mini chocolate marshmallows 5 pts. That's 20 pts. I have 23, so that's a good day. A few being carried over each day to account for the lunch tomorrow and the cake at the weekend.

As of this morning I've lost 3lb this week. Some of that is set to be undone over the weekend, but I have sensible meals planned to limit the damage.

So - a tricky week so far, then a good week. :) Next, a tricky weekend.

If I could lock myself away in a cottage somewhere with no distractions or celebrations then I'd find this all easier.

MercuryRising · 27/02/2015 20:25

Well done on the weight loss Marnie!

I survived my observation and got good feedback Grin I am feeling very relieved.

I went for a swim after school and did 36 lengths so Im feeling very positive.

I also love getting into role for school. My LSA and I ordered our costumes for World Book Day today - we are going as Thing 1 and Thing 2 from The Cat In The Hat.

I bought a multipack of Curly Wurlys tonight for when Im craving sugar - I just need to make sure I only eat one a day Wink

WhenMarnieWasThere · 27/02/2015 22:28

Well done for getting good feedback.

When I told my boss I was going off for my op, possibly when the inspectors will be in she lamented that it would mean that two of her 'best teachers' would be off at the wrong time - the other is on maternity leave. It was nice to hear her say it.

I find the 'just one' thing tricky sometimes. :)

I've been to aquafit today (I prefer something a bit more intense but it's the only class that runs on a Friday morning and it's good for toning at least) as well as clocking up 10K steps - my hip says ouch to that one. :) I'm hoping that post-op and recovery I will be able to be more active with less pain.

I did have my lovely wrap, which I left some of. And they serve chips on the side. Happily, they only served a small portion. And I left some of those too. I was full enough. I will be over for today still, but it could have been worse.

WhenMarnieWasThere · 03/03/2015 20:10

The birthday weekend only saw me put on half a lb so I'm still down 2.5lb. Pleased with that, and back to it after a couple of days off.

Well done for going back to eat Marnie. I had WI tonight and I've lost another 1.5. Determined to have dropped a stone by May. I want to be slim by summer!

MercuryRising · 04/03/2015 19:35

Aaaaggghh not eat but it!Angry
