How much do you think it's possible to lose in 10 weeks?

I have an operation in 10 weeks (unless they cancel on me!)
The operation is not dependent on my losing weight (in fact it hasn't been mentioned) but I know that I will feel happier if I can lose as much as possible between now and then.

I will be on crutches afterwards. The last time I was on crutches I was 2 stone lighter and it was annoying then.

I'm 13.5st and always used to hover about 12 st 4. I've been at a healthy weight at 11 stone.

SOooo..... I need to do this and no excuses. I have a few hiccups along the way to navigate (a couple of birthdays will involved a meal out or two and I'm away for 4 nights at Euro Disney - lots of walking but crap food).

Any ideas welcome.

I can't 5:2 as it makes me too inclined to binge.

I am digging out my old ww plan for something to follow, have bought the 7 mins Davina DVD so I have no excuse not to fit SOME exercise in the day.

I turned 40 last year. It's definitely harder to lose weight these days, I'm finding. Part of that could be age and part could be the gabapentin I'm on for my TN which does have weight gain as a side effect that lots of people struggle with.

I can carry a bit of weight quite well as I'm curvy, but the last half stone (or more) has definitely all gone on my tummy. :( I look fat.

I'm still having a tricky week, but opted for bowling with the girls today rather than something that would be sitting down. We went for a walk too. I'm really feeling the after effects of trying out 3 of the 7 minute Davina sections.

If I get the telly to myself today then I will give it another go as the abs one looked good and so did the arms.

Hello - would you mind if I joined you all?

I'm in a very similar boat to you OP - due to have surgery 10 weeks today! I also turn 40 later this year so need to keep it up post-op to have any hope of looking half decent by then (I have a lot to lose overall).

Am starting officially on Monday as still have some half-term goodies to finish up, but have been batch cooking this week so DH has home-made ready meals as I will be living on salads and stir frys for the foreseeable future and he is 6' 4" with hollow legs and eats like a horse!

WhenMarnieWasThere · 20/02/2015 20:24

Please do, Wyrd. :)

Ta muchly!

I managed to lose the best part of a stone last autumn with the help of another weight loss thread on here, but then managed to put it all back on over Christmas and the last few weeks.

I have resigned myself to cooking 3 different meals a night as trying to tweak 'normal' meals or just cook what best suits me for everyone really isn't working.

Have made 3 large Shepherds Pies for DH and doing batches of chilli and Bolognese sauce tomorrow, plus will stock up freezer with sausages, pies and pasties.

He will get healthier options on the days all three of us eat together, but when DD has school lunch she just has a snack at dinner time, so he can heat something up with veg and potatoes/pasta and I'll have salad.

Going to try getting up earlier and having poached egg or beans on granary toast for breakfast to reduce sugar intake, and will have homemade (carb free) soup for lunch with Greek yoghurt and fruit.

Having abdominal surgery (right ovary removed and tubes tied) so the more flab I can whittle off that area the better!

Mrsteddyruxpin · 20/02/2015 21:16

I have had a good loss in the last fortnight.

Today I ate -
Weight watchers bread with scrambled eggs made with dash of skim milk.

One potato waffle with salad - tomato lettuce and ham

Two sausages and teaspoon of beans

One glass of red wine awaits. I lost six pound in a week. Pound the next. Two so far this week. I am bloody hungry though.

WhenMarnieWasThere · 20/02/2015 22:01

That's good progress Mrs. I'd be happy to settle for any loss this week so far. :)

I'm having a hip arthroscopy and they are hopefully going to address the cam impingement that I have - they should shave off a bit of bone to make it move smoother. It will mean less pain in the long run, hopefully, but in the short term it will be 4-6 weeks on crutches. I hate crutches. Any pound that I can lose between now and then should mean that its less flab around my hip area and less bulk to lug around on the crutches.

I'm also worried about putting weight ON when I'm not so mobile so am hoping to get into my good habits NOW.

Today has been ok. Lunch could have been lower, but was grabbed on the hoof. And dinner was scrummy chicken fajitas served on ww wraps.

That sounds hard going.

Touch wood I'll just be having keyhole surgery but it's still 6 weeks recovery time where I won't be able to do too much physically and at least a couple of weeks at home snacking.

So it's about damage limitation as much as anything. Dreading getting on the scales on Monday Sad .

WhenMarnieWasThere · 20/02/2015 22:18

Mine will be keyhole too.... but they have to dislocate the hip first to make room for the camera. That's the bit I'm rather Hmm about.

OP posts:
WhenMarnieWasThere · 20/02/2015 22:20

More Confused than Hmm perhaps.

WyrdByrd · 20/02/2015 22:43

Ouch!

I had an emergency appendectomy last September which is when the discovered the ovarian cyst which has led to this op.

They have to give a drug that paralyses the abdominal muscles for both surgeries, & last time it kicked in before the anaesthesia so I was aware that I physically couldn't breathe for 4 or 5 seconds as I went under which was terrifying.

Saw my lovely GP last week though & he is writing to the hospital to arrange for me to have an anaesthetic review prior to this ok which is reassuring.

WhenMarnieWasThere · 21/02/2015 00:01

That sounds grim. Confused

OP posts:
WyrdByrd · 21/02/2015 10:23

It was horrible, but GP has assured me that it shouldn't normally happen and that the anaesthetist obviously rushed it because it was emergency surgery and made a hash of it.

Really horrible and scary (I came round absolutely hysterical) but I wasn't actually in any danger and this surgery is planned so trying to think positive.

Have you got plenty of people around to help you out when the time comes Marnie?

DontGotoRoehampton · 21/02/2015 10:46

Can I join in?
I need to lose a stone by may bank hol - going to a wedding and the dress I really want to wear is in my 'thinner cupboard' Grin
I have found that my downfall was cutting out carbs, that made me crave alcohol, and I was drinking too much wine.
I have now added back in some carbs last week (eg a homemade ham salad sandwich at lunchtime instead of just the ham and salad), toast with my breakfast egg, and found I am less likely to get home from work and open the wine... (Btw, read somewhere that if you cook and then cool pasta, and eat it reheated it is less calorific...?)
Also trying to drink more water.
Also, found out by accident when I met a friends for a coffee at 'lunchtime' with no lunch, we chatted for an hour, during which I drank 2 cups of peppermint tea, and forgot about eating - and not hungry again til, the evening, so will try that at weekends.
I am going skiing in a couple of weeks, and so am hoping to get lots of exercise, and stay off the wine - I managed that last year and did lose weight then.
I am 5'6 and currently weighing 10 stone 12 - my frame looks best at 9 stone 6, but realistically just under 10 stone is okay.
Also, my main problem is the tummy (yes, wine explains that) so I find the nest incentive if the tape measurement there reduces.

WhenMarnieWasThere · 21/02/2015 11:39

A can TOTALLY understand the 'thinner cupboard'. I have lots I can't wear at the moment.

Welcome. Smile

I have wardrobes full of beautiful clothes and about 6 outfits that fit me and probably only four that look reasonable on me. If nothing else losing weight should save me a fortune in new clothes Grin

MercuryRising · 21/02/2015 12:44

Hello ladies can I join please. I returned to ww with my dsis on Wednesday and it was a massive wake up call. My dsis had a baby 6 weeks ago and weighed just 8 pounds more than me Shock I cannot believe I have been kidding myself about my weight for so long Sad

I have stuck to the plan so far and actually feel better for eating properly again. I am off to the Isle of Wight in the May half term and would like to have lost a stone and a half by then.

Would you recommend the Davina DVD? I definitely dont do enough exercise.

BIWI · 21/02/2015 12:48

Don't stress too much about the exercise/missing exercise - your diet counts for 80% of weight loss, so it's much more important that you address that.

WhenMarnieWasThere · 21/02/2015 13:16

I do recommend it. I liked the fact that it's in chunks. It got my heat beat higher than Zumba and my legs are achey today still after the other day.

OP posts:
MercuryRising · 21/02/2015 13:35

I think Im going to order it Smile

WhenMarnieWasThere · 21/02/2015 17:29

Today is my last 'challenging' day until 5 weeks time when I have a long weekend with the girls at dlp.

I've had lady over fajitas on ww wraps and a couple of the Cadbury mallows at 50 cals each.

I'm currently v hungry but holding off until tonight's meal put. It will be steak and chips as a big treat and there will may be pudding to follow. And alcohol.

Then it's cracking back down. I've shipped and meal planned for next week as I know that forward planning is a winner for me.

OP posts:
WyrdByrd · 21/02/2015 17:36

Glad to hear it's 80% diet 'cos I bloody hate exercise.

I am going to start walking DD to and from school though as she has a bit of a pre-pubescent tum at the mo so I'll be doing us both a favour. It's also less than 10 minutes each way and my work is en route so I have no excuse for being such a lazy arse that I've driven for the last few years (I'm just crap in the morning and will do anything that gives me an extra 10 minutes in bed Blush)

Have cooked batches of chilli and Bolognese today that I'm just about to freeze down for DH, then I need to menu plan for me and DD.

BIWI · 21/02/2015 18:25

There are two other downsides to exercise, if it will make you feel better, Wyrd!

  1. it makes you hungry, so you tend to eat more
  2. it provokes the 'well I've been good so I can have some .....' response!
WyrdByrd · 21/02/2015 18:36

Oh yes, guilty on both charges.

Although on the other hand - when you know how hard it is to burn off it does put you off consuming it in the first place (a bit, sometimes...)

AnotherGirlsParadise · 21/02/2015 19:20

Can I join in? Another member of the 2 stone to go club here!

I carry most of my weight around my belly too, it's awful. Partly it's because that's where all the women in my family carry excess weight, and partly it's down to the horrendous amounts of alcohol I was putting away until recently (and I mean truly frightening amounts). I also have a horrible 'flap' from my C section. I'm 5'3", currently weigh 11st 7lbs and I feel fat, dumpy and miserable. The number of times I've burst into tears when getting dressed is embarrassing Sad

The past couple of weeks I've drastically changed my diet (loads of spinach, salad, stir fries, fish and chicken), drink no alcohol at all and have started walking everywhere. I also ordered a Fitbit today and am ridiculously excited about it Grin Oh, and I've been keeping track of everything on My Fitness Pal, which has actually been really helpful.

It's been lovely to read this thread - we CAN do it!

WhenMarnieWasThere · 22/02/2015 01:08

I love my fitbit. if I'm having a lazy day it definitely makes me aware of how inactive I'm being and inspires me to get off my bum and move more.
