I'm probably not the best advert for this diet as I've only managed to lose 2 lbs this week.

Basically had a very rare night out on Saturday which involved a trip to a thai restaurant, and a bottle of fruit wine.

Hows everyone else done?

I'm not actually sure I lost anything last week, but then I had been a bit stricter with everything before attempting induction so maybe the usual biggish weight loss has already happened. Bloody plateau already!! Also TOM so that's a good excuse...

Tortington · 23/10/2006 12:41

i started off at 172 and today i am 164. but fuckin sick of chicken and bacon dont like sea food except for cod

joelallie · 23/10/2006 13:38

Right. Need to get things sorted out in my head and perhaps you guys can help me?
I am now 10s 12 which gives me a BMI of 21ish. I am comfortable in my size 12 jeans. I have got lower than this the first time I tried lc but tend to get a bit odd looking as I am so tall and have a large frame ? but part of me just wants to get to a size 10 because ?it?s there? like Everest. I don?t know whether to lose more or just to try and maintain. I know from before that I?ve reached a ?comfort zone? and to go lower will require a lot of effort and struggle. Maintaining won?t make a huge difference to what I eat TBH but it?s a difference in attittude - ie I won?t beat myself up about eating the odd forbidden thing but will still carry on eating lc and won?t try to go back to eating a ?normal? diet because, for me, that way madness lies !!! I got to this stage so many times before and I?ve always been left in limbo. When and how do you stop trying to diet? Or should I carry on?

Sorry if this isn?t helpful to anyone else but I need advice before I scupper it all.

If you have been, thanks for listening....

joelallie · 23/10/2006 13:41

custy - make a sauce by thickening double cream in a pan over a low heat. Add cheese/mustard/dill.... whatever you fancy. This is really nice with fish or chicken or poured over veg.

Or you could heat half a tin of tomatoes with some chillies, garlic, cauliflower florets, mushrooms. Once veg are lightly cooked pour over a cod fillet and bake.

joelallie · 23/10/2006 13:43

BTW - well done on losing 8lbs

Crotchety · 23/10/2006 14:32

My feeling Joelallie is that when you get to the stage that is a struggle to maintain, it becomes a pain and that you're more likely to fall off the wagon. For me, at 5 foot 9 and like you with a biggish frame, 11 stone or preferably a bit under is comfortable, 10 and a half would be fantastic but I can never keep that up.

I absolutely agree that you have to stick with the low carb effort but not to worry about lapses. I'm pleased I got back on track with you all recently as I was just back to eating bread and pastries and all that, but feeling bloaty and podgy.

Anyway if you think size 10 makes you look odd then why bother just to reach a number? Nobody knows what size your clothes are - it's whether you are happy with how you look. Wish Atkins could do something about bags under eyes though...

ta. think will make tomatoey sauce wand grated cheese on top.

Frogdelalune · 23/10/2006 16:20

Afternoon everyone.

I'm feeling much better again. Official weigh day today............. and I've lost 4lbs.

Emotional - well done, 2lbs loss is good. I'm jealous of your night out, I love thai food (my bil and family live over there).

Custy - 8lbs is brilliant. Do you really not like any other fish at all ? Smoked mackerel, haddock, salmon, plaice, lemon sole, trout, tuna.....yummy.

Joelallie - I think you should go with how you feel rather than what you weigh. It's too easy to get hung up on an ideal weight/size. If you feel happy in yourself then you will look good.
Btw I met Terry Pratchett years ago when he came to do a signing in a bookshop that I used to work in, and I got a signed copy of Hogfather. He had a jacket potato for lunch and was a bit miserable (not about the potato, just in general) or maybe he doesn't like book signings.

Strawb - can I suggest that you get a low carbing book. You can always pick one up from a second hand shop or ebay, but it really is vital to understand what you are doing on this type of diet. On Atkins induction you are supposed to stick to no more than 20g of carb per day and I'm sorry to say that your apple has just cost you around 15grams (depending on which carb counter you use)

x

strawb- induction is at least 2 weeks. I know it probably feels like longer

frog - I thought it was going to be a parable about how miserable carb-rich foods make you even if you are a successful writer of comic sword and sorcery novels! I sort of met him once - he worked with my dad at the CEGB in Bristol. He was coming out of my dad's office as I was going in to see him - or so my dad told me later but I was none the wiser at the time.

Stawb, am I just confused or have you changed your name?? Or are there two strawbs? Either way, your weight loss is truly fab - well done x

I must confess to eating 8 (!) choclates today. I am feeling poorly - have ear, throat & chest infection (the joys of nursing - you get exposed to all the best bugs!) So, decided to treat myself. What a mistake. I felt awful - sweating, palpitations and sick. Does anyone else feel like that when they have a binge on refined carbs?

Anyway, it served its purpose because I don't want to have that feeling again.

Help me I'm dying. I haven't even got the energy to think about carbs, so it can't be good.

Could possibly manage 12grams of carb of a teaspoon though if only someone would visit me with some marmalade?!

Tortington · 24/10/2006 09:35
