Need to lose weight before ttc no2!

I thought I'd start a thread as it's likely there are others in the same position.

Gave one DD who is 2.3. Would like to have another child at some point in the non too distant future but firstly I really need to lose weight, as

  1. I'm far too heavy at the moment and my knees and feet have started to ache with the strain etc. I really don't think I'd cope physically being pregnant at this size
  2. I have PCOS and the erratic periods that go with it. Weight loss supposedly helps with this (no personal experience to date) My plan at the moment is to be sensible - more home cooked meals with plenty of fruit and veg, and less processed crap! I really don't eat well, especially lately (I work evening shifts, and we moved house 3 weeks ago - I h Ave been grabbing what i can, when I can!)

I shall technically be starting on Monday, as I will be spending some of this weekend meal planning. But as of first thing in the morning I shall be starting on 3 meals a day instead of constant grazing!

We have 2 fridge freezers now. Not sure I have learnt how to use them as well as you yet though lol

What did you fry them in? A touch of fry light?

Cold, sorry, I don't mean to be insensitive. I keep telling myself not to look at the total but each pound is a positive step.

I wiped the pan with a little Good Oil on a piece of kitchen paper and that was enough.

I did,t use baking powder but did use a whisk to get some air in before cooking.

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 24/01/2015 23:18

haha don't worry TakesTwo - I wasn't offended etc, just confessing to how much I need to lose! haha

Am sitting here watching Silent Witness on the iPlayer and writing down meal ideas. Got 28 listed now, so should have a nice variety of stuff to eat

OP posts:
TakesTwoToTango · 25/01/2015 09:27

Wow, 28?! Care to share? I could do with some inspiration!

Last night we had chicken with pepper and aubergine with a spoonful of pesto stirred through, new potatoes and green verbs and baby corn with garlic and balsamic.

Weigh-in this morning, I lost 4lbs this week so -12lbs in total so far!

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 25/01/2015 15:49

Well done takes two! That's very impressive! ??
I think I will weigh in tomorrow, not feeling hopeful.

Been bulk cooking today, when baby napping, so hopefully will keep me on the straight and narrow and no baking this week. Doesn't matter if it's recipes that are lower in fat I'm still being a pig with them.

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 25/01/2015 21:19

I shall write out a bit of my list for you later/tomorrow takes two. I think I got to 34 in the end. Some of my meals might not be the lowest calorie etc, but my main aim is cooking from scratch rather than processed food.

Well done on the weight loss so far takestwo - brilliant!!
I will weigh in tomorrow morning also.

I am shattered tonight. Have been busy all day. DH been doing DIY (finishing off the wardrobes, putting up new curtain poles etc. I have bathed DD, done several rounds of washing up, been tidying kitchen, cleared the ironing, batch cooked some macaroni cheese for DD, and prepped our dinner for tonight (lamb shanks with mash potato, roasted carrots, broccoli and mash potato - DH is just mashing and serving now)

OP posts:
TakesTwoToTango · 26/01/2015 09:11

You both had very productive days!! We are also trying to have a bit of a bliz of the house.

Lamb shanks sounds delicious! Don't worry about writing/typing all 34 - that's a bit labour intensive - but a handful of your favs maybe?

Humph, had a night off last night and takeaway curry - really showing on the scales this morning but hopefully it's mostly water retention from all the salt...

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 26/01/2015 10:15

Right, am weighing in before I chicken out. Have lost 3 lbs in 3 weeks. Am Ok with that as long as it continues at that pace for quite a while yet. Will see what happens this week when I am more vigilant with my food choices etc

OP posts:
TakesTwoToTango · 26/01/2015 13:09

Cold that great long term weightloss!!

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 26/01/2015 23:34

Thanks takestwo. It could have been more had I been more focused. But I suppose I am working on life changes here, not a quick fix diet (been there, done that, got a t-shirt in a larger size!!)

I have worked out if I can continue with the 1lb a week weight loss, then by our wedding anniversary I will back to what I was when we got married. Not my perfect weight by a long shot, but I'll still be 1-2 dress sizes smaller!!
(Desperately trying not to think about the 90lbs/6.5st that I still need to lose to be classed as healthy!!!!Blush)

OP posts:
ColdFeetWarmHeart · 26/01/2015 23:47

Oh, and here are my meal ideas takestwo:

  1. Meditteranean cod with rice or new potatoes
  2. Mexican sausage & bean chilli
  3. Lasagne
  4. Spaghetti Bolognese
  5. Goulash (my family's budget/quick recipe made with tinned corned beef)
  6. Cod/Basa filet with new potatoe and mixed veg
  7. Roasted sweet potatoes, peppers and chantenay carrots with sausages
  8. Macaroni Cheese
  9. Spaghetti Carbonara
10. Jacket potato, cheese and beans 11. Cauliflower cheese with gammon or roast chicken 12. Fajita's 13. Vegetable Curry 14. Chilli con carne 15. Sweet and sour chicken 16. Chicken jambalaya 17. Stuffed peppers 18. Jamaican chicken and rice 19. Cottage Pie 20. Fish Pie 21. Homemade pizza and salad 22. Chicken Tikka Masala 23. Quiche with salad and new potatoes 24. Mediterranean potato bake 25. Sausage and mash with peas and carrots 26. Pork and bean casserole 27. Stir fry 28. Omelette 29. Speedy smoked sausage and bean casserole (similar to no 26 lol) 30. Beef in beer/ale with mash potato and veg 31. Homemade burger with homemade chips 32. Lamb shank, mash and veg 33. Vegetarian bean chilli with rice/tortilla wraps 34. Moussaka

Some of the meals are similar, but different enough to have variery throughout the month.

Because of the PCOS I am going to try and stick to low GI carbs as much as possible for most meals, so that is pasta, basmati rice and new potatoes, or substituting starchy carbs for veges like sweet potatoes, or the courgette that I would put in Moussaka (I can't stand Aubgergine!!). Will try to just have homemade chips or mash once a week.

OP posts:
TakesTwoToTango · 26/01/2015 23:54

Yum! Thanks cold, some delicious ideas! I haven't had moussaka in ages and I've never made or but will definitely look out a recipe.

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 27/01/2015 00:09

I haven't made Moussaka for a few years either, but I seem to remember DH liking my attempts when I did!
I spent ages looking through recipes online on Saturday to come up with some of the ideas. Will stick it on the fridge, and hopefully we won't get stuck having the same meals all the time!! DH seems to live on burgers and pizza......

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 27/01/2015 08:46

I'm rubbish, I've managed to back on the 4lbs I lost Sad

TakesTwoToTango · 27/01/2015 09:15

Yellow, I was just coming back on to say humph I seem to have regained 2lbs since Sunday. How does that work, huh?!

We will do it! It's just a blip in the overall journey (I will not eat cake, I will not eat cake, I will not eat cake...)

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 27/01/2015 09:47

It is a blip, it's my own fault. I will stop eating random bourbons and all manner of other nonsense.
Talking ds to soft play this morning, it should be quiet and he's wee enough that I have to go in so climbing will be good for me.

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 28/01/2015 23:40

Hi yellow and takestwo - don't worry too much about the gains. You're still doing brilliantly overall takestwo - and some of the gain could be salt/water retention from that takeaway on sunday! I'm sure you'll get it off again soon.

Sorry yellow, I forget how much you've lost overall. Have you put on 4lb in one week? If so you will probably lose it within another week. Try not to get too disheartened.

I wish I had weighed myself this morning. I was up all night with a stomach bug - would be interesting to see what (if anything) I lost overnight. I couldn't even keep water down last night. Have managed some toast this evening. I am still hungry but I don't want to push it. DH now has stomach bug too. DD having emergency sleepover at my parents.

OP posts:
TakesTwoToTango · 29/01/2015 10:14

Oh Cold, that's miserable Sad I hat stomach bugs! I hope you and DH are feeling better soon and DD stays clear.

Thanks for your words of encouragement. I know the general trend is good, it's just frustrating when each pound off is so hard won, to see it creep back on again! I'm now back down to where I was, but typically have a work do this eve so no doubt like groundhog day, I'll be back up again once more before I lose it for good.

Another reason I'm impatient is my self control didn't extend to waiting on the TTC this month. I know I'm very unlikely to get a bfp first month but I'd like to get as much off as possible while I can! Grin

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 29/01/2015 12:27

Oh dear cold, that's not good or it could be as your stomach will shrink a bit so could be helpful over allWink

I lost 4lbs in 2 weeks then put it on in 1 week. Hmm But my own fault just making silly choices.

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 29/01/2015 15:57

I am feeling better now, thanks. Stomach isn't cramping/churning anymore but if I eat too much/too much sugar I feel a little bit nauseauos. Though that is by no means a bad thing!
DH went to work this morning but is back in bed now. I think his stomach is ok now, he's just tired after last night. DD is absolutely fine and is eating enough for all 3 of us today!!

Such is weight loss I'm afraid. There will always be little gains here and there, for reasons known and unknown. We would all love for it to be a steady loss each week but I don't think anyone does that! Keep looking at the big picture - if you focus on the gain this week/today you're less likely to stick to plan.

Emjoy your work do this eve takestwo.

Do you log your food anywhere yellow or pre-plan meals in any way?

OP posts:
TakesTwoToTango · 30/01/2015 14:50

Thanks cold I did. And better still, I maintained weight this morning so it wasn't a complete disaster on the weightloss front either. Just came on to look at your meals list for inspiration for dinner Grin

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 30/01/2015 16:32

that's brilliant takestwo

I have no idea what to do for dinner tonight. I am still not very hungry following stomach bug. Plus I have been walking round Ikea for most of the day, and was quite overloaded with stuff at the end. I am pooped!! I can't be bothered to stand and cook tonight - I'd rather have a long hot bath! lol

OP posts:
TakesTwoToTango · 31/01/2015 11:01

Long hot bath sounds great. I hope you did that instead!! Are you feeling better today?

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 31/01/2015 23:17

Another long day full of garden centres, b&q and doing diy. My mum and dad have not long gone home. I have got straight into bed to chill out.

I have also had back pain today. Had my first period in more than 3 years. Very strange seen as I'm on the mini pill......

How was everyone else's days?

OP posts:
TakesTwoToTango · 01/02/2015 09:01

Ooh poor you! Hope it's not too sore.

Well after and up down week, I seem to have lost 3lbs this week. Pretty pleased with that Smile
