Need to lose weight before ttc no2!

I thought I'd start a thread as it's likely there are others in the same position.

Gave one DD who is 2.3. Would like to have another child at some point in the non too distant future but firstly I really need to lose weight, as

  1. I'm far too heavy at the moment and my knees and feet have started to ache with the strain etc. I really don't think I'd cope physically being pregnant at this size
  2. I have PCOS and the erratic periods that go with it. Weight loss supposedly helps with this (no personal experience to date) My plan at the moment is to be sensible - more home cooked meals with plenty of fruit and veg, and less processed crap! I really don't eat well, especially lately (I work evening shifts, and we moved house 3 weeks ago - I h Ave been grabbing what i can, when I can!)

I shall technically be starting on Monday, as I will be spending some of this weekend meal planning. But as of first thing in the morning I shall be starting on 3 meals a day instead of constant grazing!

Good news all round cold feet Grin
I think I may need to invest in a cupboard lock at some point as all my cleaning stuff is on the work top in the utility room out the way as he empties cupboards in there. It's my own fault possibly as he likes to help put washing on, he has his own empty bottle of softener, I was impressed that he can open and shut the drawer and turn it on when I ask him. My mil was horrified.Wink
How old is your dd?
Tomorrow I will endeavour to get the power plate I got for free yesterday out the car to investigate how to use it. My PT friend said I've to work on weight and resistance on it.... We shall see. I've only really been running up and down stairs recently.

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 15/01/2015 08:52

Oh god I wouldn't be showing DD how to use washing machine! She often puts random bits in there - shoes, rubbish, toys....If she turned it on as well I'd hate to think what she'd do to my new machine! Thankfully that has a child lock on it too!

DD is 2.4
I haven't done any exercise yet. Focusing on changing my eating habits first, seen as they say weight loss is about 80% diet and 20% exercise (or something like that). Once I have got a proper eating routine in I will try to build on some regular exercise. Hopefully by then we won't have a constant stream of deliveries or workmen coming round!

Good news all round cold! Glad the new
mattress is comfy. I could stay in mine all morning but no chance of that happening!!

I know you are right, half a pound would be good, but I'm impatient to start TTC and can't really let myself until I've lost at least another stone as my pelvic floor just wouldn't cope otherwise. And I'm trying so hard!!!! Smile

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 15/01/2015 11:28

I know how you feel takes two, but it's best to wait if you can, I'm going to reassess the situation in March. Then I worry about a baby either having a Christmas birthday, or being the youngest in the year if it would be jan or February. But I was born in feb and it didn't do me any harm.
I'm in Scotland btw.

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 15/01/2015 11:33

Also no power plate today, woke up and I have what I call diagonal rheumatism today. Right ankle and left shoulder are in absolute agony. I'm refusing to take pain killers as I'm tired anyway due to crap sleep as was in pain, and tramadol will just make me crash out.
So feeling slightly sorry for myself.
Ds and I had a fruit platter for breakfast. Not going to make the pain make me eat shit as that's not helpful.
Of banans, melon and raspberries.

TakesTwoToTango · 15/01/2015 15:42

Stay strong yellow! You can do it! Sounds painful though. I know what you mean about tramadol - hideous stuff. I take it ibuprofen plus paracetamol and codeine all together wouldn't take the edge off a little while still allowing you to function?

I also had fruit for breakfast and a warm salad with wild rice for lunch. Did an hour's spin class at the gym this morning before work and an hour's brisk woodland walk in my lunch hour. I will lose at least a little bit this week! Grin

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 15/01/2015 15:52

I sometimes take diclofenic and or tramadol but try not to take anything, so I either take that or nothing and put up with it.
Had a bacon and mushroom omelette for lunch and didn't eat the micro pizza I have in the freezer. Grin
Very impressed with your gyming. I've just been crafting and limping up and down stairs, and I've burnt my finger on my hot glue gun. Angry

TakesTwoToTango · 15/01/2015 22:00

Ouch! Early to bed for you! No more injuries today please

BirdingWidow · 16/01/2015 08:19

Hi all, still here! Did a huge post last Friday but phone crashed and I have been so busy I haven't been back! Will post more fully over the weekend. In a nutshell I was 5lb down on Monday but am not having a good week now. Batch cooked at the weekend do dinners not too bad but lunches etc not organised and too much chocolate is happening. Work is ridiculously busy (had 9 hours sleep in 3 days at end if last week, including all-nighter to write an urgent paper) so struggling a lot. I have an interview for the permanent job next week (am an interim) but right now I think I am
mad to want it! Well done all for sticking with it, more later

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 16/01/2015 10:50

Well done on your 5lbs birding. ??
I think I've definitely put weight in this week. Will see on Monday, going to be extra careful over the weekend.

TakesTwoToTango · 16/01/2015 14:22

Well done on your 5lbs birding and I'm not surprised chocolate is happening after that week. Hope works gets easier for you soon.

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 16/01/2015 22:11

I am in a bad mood tonight, and want to binge. Had a rubbish shift at work (trying to train a new member of staff who just wanted to sit on her phone all night, or chat with fellow trainees!!!). I was hungry at work anyway as I didn't have time for a proper dinner before work, so just had a slice of white toast (v.bad!) - add that to some other bitchiness going on and I'm all riled up!! Come home wanting crisps and other savoury junk!! And alcohol!!!

You need to think of it as a long and permanent journey takestwo - if you lose weight too quickly it will probably all just go back on during pregnancy anyway! Slow and steady is better. Do you have much to lose?
I personally want to get down to about a size 14 or 10/11st before we start trying. Actually if I could get down to 11st 10 that would give me a BMI of 30. I would be really happy with that (I currently have a BMI of 41.5 Sad). My knees and feet hurt so much lately, I really want to lose as much weight as possible before I add the pressures of a pregnancy while looking after a toddler.

How are you feeling now yellow? hope you're not still in agony!!

Well done on the weight loss birding!! I hope work settles down for you a bit soon and you can get some proper rest!!

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 16/01/2015 23:35

Wasn't as sore this morning managed to drive and get out to my friends house, but now can barely moved my right arm. Had the bottom of a left over nice chocolate Santa that was in the fridge, now feel sick. Not a good day.

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 16/01/2015 23:46

Is it a recurring injury yellow or a long term condition like arthritis?
Is it worth seeing a Dr or have you done all that before?

OP posts:
yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 17/01/2015 09:10

It's pallindromic rheumatism type 3. Have a google it's rubbish. Nothing I can do when I get a "attack". Just ride it out or take pain killers.
Well not as bad as I had thought from all the bad behaviour I've still lost a lb. Grin so if I actually eat the way I was suppose to and have the ability to move more I should be going in the right direction.

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 18/01/2015 00:17

Just had a look yellow, that is rubbish to say the least!

I'm currently lying in bed feeling sorry for myself-my feet and shins are really hurting today, so much so I have just had a little cry, and I have no one to blame but myself for putting on all this weight! And my carpel tunnel syndrome is starting to flare up too.........good times!!

OP posts:
yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 18/01/2015 00:32

Oh dear cold feet, carpal tunnel is bad. ??
Yeah rheumatism is not fun, started when I was 5 months pregnant, didn't get diagnosed as what was actually wrong with me till ds was about 15 months. It was not fun dealing with a baby when I was in agony every day. It doesn't happen every day anymore, maybe once or twice a week, I'm surprised dh and I didn't get a divorce. It's very stressful. Being house bound.
Anyway onward and upwards for all, less weight, less pain then ttc. The benefit of knowing what's wrong with me now is that the meds I'm on can safely be taken in pregnancy and when bf so hopefully won't be as bad this time. Or I may even get a break from it for months as it should get better in pregnancy....didn't happen last time, but I'm hopeful. Smile
Being less fat can only help. Baby steps, no quick fix unfortunately as it took along time to get to this weight I can't expect it to just disappear overnight even thou we would all love a magic wand. Wink

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 18/01/2015 00:47

I've had carpel tunnel since I was 15. Improved greatly since I left school and am not writing by hand so much. But I get flare ups when it's cold or from repetitive movements like painting. Luckily I've learnt to type so I don't make my wrists worse.
Did you not have any symptoms before you fell pregnant? What a horrible time to get something like that. I suppose we all take it for granted that we won't get arthritis etc until we're OAPS!

I'd love a magic wand right now. I haven't been a healthy weight for about 8 or 9 years. I can't bare the thought of it taking 8 years to be a size 12/14 again!!!

OP posts:
TakesTwoToTango · 18/01/2015 16:41

Ouch ouch ouch to rheumatism and carpel tunnel Sad constant pain is so wearing and so hard to live with.

It will not take us as long to lose the weight as to gain it, because we are all focused and determined [trying a bit if mind over matter]. Though of you find that magic wand, I'd gladly take a turn!

I had 2 stones to lose to get to my pre pg weight pre dc2 and 2.5 to get to my ideal weight. Last week took off half a stone but I'm not sure there's going to be a loss this week, possibly even a gain. I was away so didn't get to do my weigh in this morning so I'll weigh tomorrow.

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 18/01/2015 18:21

No symptoms at all, started with hips sore at 5 months pregnant randomly one day, then progressed till I couldn't move either or my arms some days or walk properly. Dh had to dress me and drag me out I bed in the morning. Got a brief couple of weeks after ds was born then I could barely lift him up or bf him without crying in agony. Had to go on stronger painkillers and had to stop bf, due to an undiagnosed tt and the fact I could barely move. It was horrific! If I didn't wear him in a sling most I the time I wouldn't have left the house at all as couldn't push a pram.
But I've got it under control most of the time now and luckily he walked at 10 months so didn't have to carry him in the house as much.
Anyway it's not about my tale of woe. Lol
It's perfectly feasible to loose a good few stone in even a few months. And your way of eating should change as well. Then ttc, I had horrific morning sickness for 4 months, so that would probably keep the weight of for a bit as well. Wink

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 18/01/2015 21:56

Oh yellow, I really don't hope its as hard for you with the next pregnancy!! Do you see a specialist about it, or just the GP?

I'm really hoping I can lose a few stone by the summer, but it's going to be quite a hard slog for me. I don't just need to change the way I eat, but also DH, and probably my parents etc as well, or at least be firmer with them (for instance if we come over for lunch my mum will get in fresh rolls etc, and doughnuts. We see each other quite regularly, so there isn't really any need for cakes at lunch time, its a meal, not an occasion).
I didn't get my batch cooking done this week. But I shall be going through the recipe books in the week, making a note of what ingredients I need and making sure I have all of them by the weekend (was going to cook a couple of meals today but Asda didn't deliver everything I needed!!)

Managed to clear DD's ironing tonight. I am slowly getting there in the house as well. Need to make a list of what needs doing, and plan which days I am going to get things done.

I see a rheumatologist, he lets loads of medical students read my file and ask stuff as it's pretty unheard of starting in pregnancy. So at least other doctors will be informed in the future.

Dh has decided today to join in with healthy eating (slightly)as of tomorrow, so that will be interesting.
And he's day shift all week so makes it easier for dinners and doing stuff in the evening.

I got a free power plate last week and will be having a go with it...
And going to rope dh into playing just dance with me on the ps4.

Think I'm going to make another quiche as I have some filo left and it was yum. But will have some wraps instead of bread for lunches, and possibly make some soup.

Good luck to all this week. Grin

TakesTwoToTango · 19/01/2015 09:11

It's really hard isn't it to change not just your habits. It those around you? Eating is a sort of recreational activity in our lives SmileBlush Still, at least I feel like this new leaf is modelling healthy eating for the children.

I lost 1lb this week. Better than a gain I guess.

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 19/01/2015 11:49

Same as me takes two, well done!

TakesTwoToTango · 19/01/2015 16:02

Thanks. Same to you Yellow Smile
