New Year, New Thread #16 For Paul McKenna's Losers!!! He Can Make Us Thin!!!

Happy New Year Everyone!
Welcome to thread #16 of the Paul McKenna's I Can Make You Thin weight loss system.

The Golden Rules that will aid you on your journey with our like minded friendly support system are:

  1. Eat what you WANT
  2. Eat when you are HUNGRY
  3. Eat CONSCIOUSLY
  4. STOP eating when you are satisfied

HELPFUL TIPS!
Lots of chewing; at least 20 chews per mouthful.
Ask yourself "am I really hungry?" have a glass of water to see if it's real hunger or just thirst; wait 15 or 20 minutes if you can, before eating something to see if it's 'gone off' after a drink. Listen for your 'full signal' and leave at least a mouthful on your plate at every meal. Eat your favourite thing from your plate first so that if you get to the full signal, but have your favourite food still sitting there, you aren't going to 'make room' for it because you love it, it will have already gone.
Admire something about yourself every day in the mirror.
Try to move more; dance around the living room or walk to school...use the stairs...small things, but good things! :)

This weight loss system is about re-educating your body; learning to listen to it and in doing so losing weight and inches. After all, eating a meal is not a competition, it's about enjoying what you are putting into your mouth and body, but not feeling bloated and uncomfortable (or guilty) afterwards!
Many people have issues around food. Many of us have been brought up by the 'clear your plate' parents of yesteryear which leave us feeling guilty if we leave even the smallest morsel of food, but we are working through this guilt or any other hang up we may have, and we are learning to leave a bit on the plate; return to it another time if we really want to or even feed it to the dog or the bin!
So!! forget diets; they may work for a while, but they aren't permanent solutions. This is a new way of living for your brand new life!! Let's get lighter for those summer outfits!!

The Paul McKenna system really works and is easy to maintain; we just need to change how we treat food and ourselves.

I've C&P'd our previous threads links as they are helpful.

Here are the book choices on AMAZON which is all you need to get started! they aren't compulsory, but they do help! it's something to refer to and listening to the cd's can really focus you.

This is the tapping technique EXPLAINED - this can be useful to combat cravings.

You don't have to buy the book and CD, but we have found that they do help and somehow they keep you on track, so it would probably be a good investment and will cost you far less than a couple of trips to WW or SW meetings, so do consider having them in your life.

Please feel free to join us, whether it's 10lbs or 10 stones you want to lose; it's very doable.
We are friendly, supportive and successful, but we're not hungry and that is a great way to feel when you are dropping dress sizes at the same time!!! so come on in and start living your new life today and make 2015 your year to drop a dress size or several...if we can get those lbs off a few at a time, just think how we could look and feel for the sunny summer time!!!
Some of our thread members are also doing PMK's Hypnotic Gastric Band and although this thread is not about this avenue, we will still be supportive of our friends partaking of this, so don't think we won't be there for you. I'm pretty sure that the Golden Rules will be just as helpful in this process as the I Can Make You Thin process Smile so get stuck in Smile

Here is a link to Freedom From Emotional Eating which may give some insight into why we do this and help us beat it.

Ps. Could we all try to sign in at least every few days so that someone is 'there?' We have established that it's no fun talking to ourselves and also that if there is a new joiner, it's good to say 'hello and welcome' to them too.

Ok! Let's Focus and See Ourselves wearing that body we desire! learning to love ourselves is an important daily step, so let's become LOSERS in order to be WINNERS!!! Smile 1lb at a time....

Hi everyone! I am so happy to have found a thread relating to "I can make you thin!". There is nothing out there for people doing this...:( I just started this way of eating last week and have a few questions. I am wondering if you can help? He says eat when you are hungry which i do, but when do you stop? I don't want to eat all day (stop at a certain time at night). I have other questions but wanted to start here. Thanks to all! Petra x

Milllli · 23/02/2015 22:52

Hi Petra Welcome. I try and eat when my body makes me, as in really hungry and I stop as soon as I feel satisfied which for me is generally half to three quarters of a sandwich or half a small plate of food. I can easily carry on eating though so I have to listen hard to that little feeling and stop. If im still hungry after half and hour I can always go back and eat more. Smile

Petra1974 · 24/02/2015 10:12

Hi Millli, Thanks for this! I have also heard that it helps to drink water 15-20 minutes before to just make sure you are really hungry. I just had a feeling that at a certain point before you go to bed you should stop. AS in i don't like going to bed on a full stomach..

Milllli · 24/02/2015 12:35

Do what feels right to you. I don't go to bed on a full tummy . I eat dinner at seven or eight and then maybe a piece of fruit/ icecream/ some chocolate after.

Milllli · 24/02/2015 12:36

O and I go to bed at one in the morning/ two sometimes.

Petra1974 · 24/02/2015 18:04

Thanks Millli! That does help as I thought one had to keep eating...Can I ask how much you and others have lost with the Paul McKenna way?

Milllli · 24/02/2015 21:36

I stopped dieting about 15 years ago when I had had enough. Having spent a life time being made to feel bad for eating lovely food I came across a book called Overcoming Overeating and it opened my eyes to mindful eating. I went shopping and stocked my kitchen with all the foods I love to eat and began eating only when hungry and eating exactly what I was hungry for. To this day I only buy food that I love and still eat this way. I do not gain weight so have avoided the yo yo that is "dieting". (The only time I put on weight was with menopause and that was ten pounds which I have now lost.) I brought my kids up this way and my daughter has a healthy relationship with food and doesn't diet. People come on the thread and they start off well, lose weight quickly by eating the foods they love which is great and they are amazed BUT they then become complacent and can forget to do the mindful eating bit. Its body led calorie control just how slim people with no food issues eat. How much weight you lose depends upon whether you can eat for reasons of true hunger and stop as soon as that hunger has ceased. I have learnt that it is usually with half a small plate of food for me, half a sandwich, small banana BUT and this is the thing, you can eat all the food you love with butter, oils, cream etc. Sweets, chocolate, crisps, cakes as well as meats, veg, fruit, breads etc. This differs from diets where you are told what and when and how much you can eat and it puts control of your weight right back where it should be, with you. Diets have confused us and made us believe that we gain weight cause we eat too much but I feel we eat to much because we react to diets and then binge when we come off them . How many diets do we have too go on before we realise that they just don't work and that we have to take responsibility for our own bodies and how we nourish and feed them. I am aiming to lose another stone at the moment as I feel that my body will benefit from this and will be more flexible and supple. Hope that helps from my perspective Smile

Petra1974 · 24/02/2015 21:48

Millli, you are a godsend! I love what you wrote as mystruggle has always been with food and being restricted with diets. In the last year i think i have gone on 5 different ones, and i am fed up! When someone mentioned Paul Mckenna i thought that this was the best for me. I don't feel restricted and when i eat i get fullsomuch quicker. I make sure to follow all the rules and will continue to do so. I am not here to prove anything to anyone, i just want to feel good again! I want to live life as we only have 1! Thanks again! You really helped me! X

Milllli · 24/02/2015 22:24

Well thank you Petra. So tell me a bit about you. Which book of his did you read and do you listen to the CDs? I love them and find them relaxing and for me they work well. Do you have a size you are working towards?

Petra1974 · 25/02/2015 07:51

Hi Milli, I bought the "I can Make you Thin" book a few weeks ago as a friend noticed how much I was struggling with diets. She saw I was getting so frustrated! I have read most of it and repeat his rules every morning and as much as I can in the day. I tried listening to his cd but I only have a blueray so it gets stuck half way. I will transfer it to mp3 so i can listen to it on my iPod.
For me its just a question of loosing as much as my body allows me to loose, every kilo for me counts. I want to get to a stage where food doesn't play such a huge role in my life...all i think about is food. But since starting this method I am full most of the day and thats a relief. I don't have to think "what can i make today, how many calories do i have left for the day" etc.
He says not to weigh yourself for 2 weeks...i find that so hard! How do you do that? Unfortunately i don't feel it in my clothing yet and want to check on the scales...:(

Silverjohnleggedit · 25/02/2015 09:15

Millli is a total star! The book she recommends is worth reading, especially if like me you struggle with a binging problem resulting from overly restrictive dieting in the past. It's so counter-intuitive to fill your cupboards with treat food to reduce your cravings - but I had no choice, I could make and demolish and tray of cookies in seconds - getting rid of the sugar wasn't working.
But I am gradually gaining control of the sugar demons by facing them....weight control and to start eating normally are my current goals.

Solo · 25/02/2015 12:31

Hi all! I am hoping not to lose my internet again anytime soon...sorry for my absence! but it looks like Milllli has been welcoming and informational :) so you have been looked after well.

So, my welcome to Petra is a little delayed, but you are!! :)

Hey Milli :) spoke to gp yesterday about my weight...nothing came of it except to talk to HCA which I may or may not do...going to listen to CD again later. How are you doing?

OP posts:
Milllli · 28/02/2015 17:35

Sorry Solo. Whats HCA? Didn't he want you to go on a low fat diet to lose weight to help your liver? What did he say about you having not lost weight?

Solo · 01/03/2015 00:46

Health Care Assistant. No, that was my consultant that wanted me to go on a low fat diet. GP didn't say anything except about seeing HCA.

BeautyQueenFromMars · 02/03/2015 08:41

Hello! Sorry I've been quiet. Haven't had time to write supportive posts and didn't want to just take on here and never give! Am quietly cheering everyone on though Flowers

Silverjohnleggedit · 02/03/2015 08:52

Hi all, I've been hiding from the diet world...something's are going well, others need work.
I'm back to running and really enjoying it, dog doesn't seem so keen Grin lazy boy!
Food wise I'm mostly managing to eat slowly without distractions but sometimes it's just not possible without a fuss. I'm struggling with the only eat when you're hungry - still prone to a bit of boredom over snacking....but I have declined dinner after those occasions only to make up for it in spades later on. My sugar obsession is stubbornly refusing to go, I have tried Paul's therapy combining it with a food that revolts you - it's not working and I probably need to do the exercise more often.
I haven't weighed myself in two weeks, which usually means that I know I'm gaining - head in the sand!

yippeekiyay2 · 02/03/2015 20:53

Hi (again, again...!) I have been lurking and reading, been over to the dark side (slimming world Blush but as usual I find this is not a sustainable way to live and lose, so am going to refocus myself now. It's been great to see people's losses so far and I know I have a journey to change my way of thinking and that I need to devote myself to it rather than giving in, sir here goes!
Today I have tried to follow mindful eating, always tricky when at work but I have done my best. I had cup of tea at breakfast time, wasn't truly hungry til lunch but enjoyed two large Americanos at work - the newish coffee machine they got in does lovely coffee but I'm spending loads! Then brought ham and cheese sandwich for lunch, had one of the two and then was full, had second half about half 3 with a pear. Then had two cups of tea with half sugar - I like the taste of it bizarrely - then two mini twirl bites, half a slice of bread with peanut butter and going to have some pizza soon. Just got to eat the pizza mindfully!
Hope everyone is ok.

Milllli · 02/03/2015 23:23

BeautyQueenFromMars hope your doing ok even though you didn't post much. I did write you a long post recently wondering if you needed any help? Keep posting Smile
Silver......We do not diet (haha!). So glad you managed to get back to your running. Smile
Yippeekiyay ....nice to see you . Just get back into it, you will be fine. Its normal to think that a diet will be the answer when this doesn't happen as quick as you want it to or think it should. This way is not really dissimilar from a diet in that it is body led calorie intake. So even though its not counting calories, if you can begin to listen to your body then you will gradually take in less calories and lose weight. Anyway, look forward to chatting with you Smile
