After Megglevache's inspirational thread and photos showing her FIVE STONE loss I am inspired to start yet again.

I'm not dieting. I'm just going to avoid wheat and sugar. And good waaaayyy back on wine.

So no bread, pasta, biscuits, cake, sweets, white rice etc.

I would say scrap the scales and just carry on without obsessing over weight. The scales in Boots aren't maintained or calibrated at all, even though kids jump about on them while their parents are shopping so I wouldn't bother with them. I'm a total slave to the scales and I wish more than anything that I could just stop weighing myself and eat like a normal, sensible person Sad

WildFlowersAttractBees · 10/12/2014 09:39

I think if you don't NEED scales then go by how you feel.

I NEED scales or I just get bigger!

TheRealMaryMillington · 10/12/2014 10:59

I do need to weigh less though, for my health. That is a fact.

I'm just wondering how useful/motivational it is as a tracker of change, and whether it would be better to just do the applied sensible eating and exercise, hopefully feel and look different and then hop on some proper scales some time in march and be 2 stone lighter.

Sore knee will stop exercise for another day or two, feel really gutted about it.

WildFlowersAttractBees · 11/12/2014 09:00

Morning all. 24hrs to weigh in so obviously today is the day I try to be super good and drink loads of water etc Wink.

I am currently meal planning for the week and trying desperately to get ahead of myself as out with friends for Chinese on Saturday night (have volunteered to drive so no alcohol) then out all day Sunday (literally 10am to 10pm) so need to make good choices.

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 11/12/2014 09:02

I've had a couple of days of uncontrolled eating, feeling a bit cross with myself, but going to turn it round from today. It's so hard at this time of year. I suspect I won't have lost anything when I weigh in tomorrow.

WildFlowersAttractBees · 11/12/2014 09:39

It is hard WhoKnows, but anything but a gain at this time of the year is a vast improvement on previous years.

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 11/12/2014 10:47

So true Widlflowers, I am quite capable of putting on half a stone over Christmas and New Year. And I am pleased with the amount of biscuits, mince pies, chocolate etc I haven't eaten. Our kitchen table at work is groaning with such things and I have only eaten one dry biscuit from it in the last week. I slipped up on Tuesday, we had some Lindor chocolates and I ate about three of them late morning and wasn't hungry for lunch, then ravenous just before the school run so grabbed some toast, then wasn't hungry for tea and had crackers and cheese at bedtime instead. Yesterday wasn't much better. I've noticed this in the past, any missed mealtime is a disaster for the rest of the day for me.

holmessweetholmes · 11/12/2014 12:41

Hello - may I join too? I'm 5'6 and about 11 stone. Lost two and a half stone a few years back and have kept most of that off, but half a stone keeps creeping back on. I'd like to be 10-10.5 stone really.

I've low-carbed before and it works but is too restrictive for me long-term. I'm now on the Eatbetterers thread, but that doesn't seem to be keeping me on the straight and narrow.

My downfall is sugar and bad carbs, so that's what I want to cut out. Don't know exactly what I weigh atm as I can't face getting on the scales Sad.

holmessweetholmes · 11/12/2014 12:44

Meant to say - my problem with sugary stuff and refined carbs is that I can't seem to do the 'one square of chocolate' or 'one biscuit' thing. Once I have one I want to inhale the lot.

petalsandstars · 11/12/2014 12:48

I'm a similar size to you holmes with exactly the same weakness. If it's there I will be tempted, and if I'm tempted I'll finish the pack. Need to do this too.

TheRealMaryMillington · 11/12/2014 17:51

hello holmes! welcome welcome welcome (also link us to the Eatbetterers, I bet they have lots of meal ideas?)

I've on my third day of no exercise and sore knee and feeling tetchy as a consequence. I've got a gentlish yoga a class planned for tomorrow so hoping I can manage it.

Have managed not to hit the crisps, because, cunningly, I made sure that we haven't bought any lately. I've been logging everything in my fitness pal for the past week, and oh boy it is great for both understanding what you are injesting and deterring extra eating. I'm really surprised by how calorie dense some foods are (especially nutritious ones), though, it is very illuminating and explains a lot It's really helping me with portion control.

WildFlowersAttractBees · 11/12/2014 19:31

Ok, tmi here but does anyone else find themselves going to the loo a lot more often?

CiderwithBuda · 11/12/2014 23:22

Popping in to say I'm still here!

Manic week. But managing to keep a bit of focus.

We have about 25 adults plus some teens comings or xmas drinks and food tomorrow night so I have been busy getting house sorted etc. Almost had a major freezer disaster - we have a freezer in a garage and I had a load of party food in it along with the turkey and ham for xmas. Discovered yesterday that th top drawer hadn't shut properly so some stuff was defrosting - had to chuck all the party stuff I had bought. Thankfully realised before the turkey or ham were affected.

But I now have two packets of crumpets and a maltana loaf to eat.

Might just chuck them.

I will be back properly after the party!

Just a quick weigh in. 14st 10.25lbs so 3.5lbs off this week Smile.

Starting to think a stone overall for Christmas is achievable.

SoonToBeMrsB · 12/12/2014 10:10

holmessweetholmes I'm the same, I find it easier to go cold turkey on some stuff because if I eat one biscuit or one chocolate I turn into some crazy person who needs to eat the rest as quickly as possible!

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 12/12/2014 10:49

Well done Wildflowers. I hadn't lost anything this week, as expected, but am going to try harder for next week, however I have three meals out so it's going to be hard work.

MAry - I did MFP for a while a couple of years ago, and yes it's a real eye opener how calorie dense some foods are, peanut butter is a shocker. I have digital scales, so I put my toast on the scales then added my normal amount of peanut butter and re-weighed and got a huge shock when I logged it, it certainly made me much more careful with portion sizes.

I'm off out to help serve Christmas dinner to 200 primary school pupils in a minute, if that doesn't put me off food for the rest of the day nothing will!

WildFlowersAttractBees · 13/12/2014 10:04

Thanks WhoKnows, I had a few roses and some popcorn with the DC's last night so probably found 1lb of it again Xmas Wink.

Need to figure out a reasonable option for tonight's Chinese but I am the driver so no booze.

TheRealMaryMillington · 13/12/2014 12:46

Because of my scales situation, I have no idea if I have lost any weight or not, but my waist is distinctly slimmer, and amazingly DH seems to have noticed, so it must be true.

Had a rare night out with DH last night, proceeded by lunch out with a friend at which crazy delicious chocolate peanut butter torte was eaten. But I did a hot yoga class in the morning, and plodded about the shops a bit and instead of a pile of curry which is default position, we just nipped to Byron and had grilled chicken and salad and went to see the new Bill Murray film. So, on balance it was ok, for a 20% day though MFP will appal me so I might just not do it.

Knee is still a bit sore so the runnings off the agenda for now which I am gutted about to be honest, but will try to keep the yoga and sensible eating going.

Have fun tonight if you are out, everyone. We are getting our tree today and it is customary to drink as much Baileys as whist decorating. Fizzy water isn't the same.

WildFlowersAttractBees · 13/12/2014 18:26

Someone noticing is the best feeling TherealMary. It really keeps me going!

SoonToBeMrsB · 14/12/2014 21:23

Hi everyone, I've had a hideous weekend food-wise, I can't seem to string together three good days at the moment. I'm going cold turkey on crisps and chocolate as of tomorrow because allowing myself a little is just turning me into a total sugar monster! I've been at bootcamp every other day so exercise isn't an issue but my food is seriously up and down.

CecyHall · 14/12/2014 21:27

Unfortunately my silence hasn't been because I've been so busy exercising and cooking healthy treats. Quite the opposite.

I'm such a self sabotager.

I have ordered a yoga mat though so that's kind of a step forward?

SoonToBeMrsB · 14/12/2014 21:37

A definite step forward. Baby steps, we will get there Smile

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 14/12/2014 21:53

I'm a self sabotager too Cecy. Yesterday wasn't too bad until the evening when I fell prey to crackers and cheese (only three). Oh and some crisps Blush. Today, so far pretty good, we went to Pizza Express for lunch and I had a huge salmon salad and a load of olives. We then went to a Christmas Market and ice skating (I didn't skate, I can't) and I resisted everything on offer apart from a small hotdog and a bit of candy floss. However I'm hungry now! I am trying to focus on all the things I couldn't have eaten and didn't. such as pizza, dough balls, mulled wine, mince pies etc which makes me feel better about my efforts.

I have three more meals out in the next week to contend with though.

Exercise wise, nothing significant over the weekend, just a bit of walking, I did swim on Friday and will do tomorrow too.

WildFlowersAttractBees · 14/12/2014 22:30

We all need to focus on the good!

I have had social plans all weekend that involved eating out Confused.

Last night the table ordered starters to share and I just tried to keep myself occupied with the chat and didn't touch them. I had chicken chow mein for my main and a coffee when everyone had desserts. I drove too so a sprite zero and water for me!
However today we went to the cinema with the DC's and I had 50g of salted popcorn and a bottle of water (thanks MN for the freebie tickets and snack!) then out for lunch and christmas market in town. I had the chicken breast and salad toasted sandwich but stole three of DH's onion rings and a handful of chips... then I ate 2 churros and nutella Xmas Blush!!!

TheRealMaryMillington · 14/12/2014 22:40

Gave myself the weekend off I have decided in retrospect

Haven't gone crazy, but there has been Baileys and a cinnamon bun at the Nordic church, and no exercise.

Booked into yoga tomorrow, and aim to be back on the straight and narrow until next weekend, or Christmas Eve if I can manage it.

Have you lot seen Jantastic?
