OK, here we go ... a new thread for a new week. Big fat hairy line drawn underneath last week, and here's to a better week this week.

WWB - why don't you get a crown? You lost 3lb, you star.

lemonaid · 05/10/2006 11:02

Congrats to WWB on your crown !

I forgot to email, but lost a pound last week.

WigWamBam · 05/10/2006 11:21

Thank you for the crown ... it didn't really seem appropriate to give myself one somehow, with so many people having such a difficult week. I thought it best just to draw the line ... I do rather like my crown though

JackieNoHeadJustABloodyStump · 05/10/2006 11:29

No you have to celebrate it - you're the one giving us all hope that we can do it too.

WigWamBam · 05/10/2006 11:31

No, no ... it's not me. It's us, all of us together, that provide the support. I'm just the one in charge of the emails and drawing the line under the weeks!

OP posts:
JackieNoHeadJustABloodyStump · 05/10/2006 11:32

But you're the one who lost the 3 lb, is what I mean.

WigWamBam · 05/10/2006 11:34

Ahhh ... I see what you mean. Am a bit dim today - it sinks in eventually but it takes a while!

JackieNoHeadJustABloodyStump · 05/10/2006 11:35

That'll be the lovely shiny crown weighing heavily on your brain, I guess.

alittleBITEshy · 05/10/2006 11:37

Sorry you're not feeling well.

Fauve · 05/10/2006 11:56

Oh my, that crown really suits you, WWB - congratulations!

I'm feeling quite good today because

a) people have started to notice that I've lost weight and are asking me how I've done it
b) I have starting chucking out clothes which are now too big for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
c) I've just been to aqua aerobics and have a rosy halo floating round my head

I've promised myself a personal shopper somewhere flash once I reach my ultimate target weight - I reckon maybe in time for next summer's sales? I have been really looking forward to chucking out clothes, so it feels good to have made a start - I even thought about burning them ritually but my save the earth conscience intervened, so the Scouts jumble can have them

TitianRed · 05/10/2006 12:47

I just want to celebrate the fact that, by Monday, I'd lost my first stone. TA DAAAAH!!! No one has said anything yet but I feel loads better and my clothes feel looser. I'd like to be under 16 stone by Christmas - that's another 22lb to go. Perhaps I need to calculate how many weeks till then before setting such a big target! Hang on... 11 weeks on Monday! 2lb a week. Just about doable, I think. Hope everyone has a good week. XX

littlemisssensible · 05/10/2006 12:50

thanx for the welcome everyone. Well done WWB, 3lb loss is brilliant, that has really given me motivation for the coming week!

I weighed myself this morning and I've hidden the scales for the rest of the week. I've a bad habit of re-weighing every day then getting depressed because I've had a bad day and raiding dd's snack drawer or dh's cheese pile! :-(

Been a bit naughty already because there are cakes at work today for a birthday. But I did limit myself to one and I think it's ok to have the odd treat, isn't it

Will be good for the rest of the day to make up for it!

Actually, I tend to have more of a problem making myself eat enough - I'm really good at living on tea and fresh air for several days and feeling all virtuous, then as my body starts objecting I eat anything and everything in sight, then the scales say 2,3,4, or more lbs on and I start all over again! :-(

suejoneziscalmernow · 05/10/2006 12:53

Ooh well done WWB nice to have such a good week after a difficult week or two isn't it?

alittleBITEshy - are you our first gold member? You have to come and talk at least once a month to keep your gold status, you know. And 2lb of your original target is neither here nor there really. Well done - how much have you lost in ttal (am I allowed to ask that?)

suejoneziscalmernow · 05/10/2006 13:02

Treats are not only allowed they are complusory if you plan on dieting for any length of time. Not eating enough is as big a problem as eating too much - it all displays a lack of ability to relate to food normally eg why do we feel it is "virtuous" to not eat all day? One of the things I have tried to do is eat regularly and healthily throughout even if I'm not losing weight (and apart from last week have pretty much managed that).

TitianRed - you will be the first person in the history of womankind to have a weight problem who manages to lose 2 lb a week, consistently for 11 weeks AND in the run up to Xmas! How are you going to feel if you don't make it? If it is just a frivolous aim to give you something to aim for and you won't care if you miss it, then thats fine. If it were me and say I'd lost 14 lb instead of 22lb, I'd be convinced I'd failed and instead of being chuffed about losing another stone I'd be upset I'd "failed again". Don;t give yourself diffcult targets if you are in this for the long term. You might not have been around when I reported that my GP has advised a weight loss of 1-2lb PER MONTH as he thinks anything more doesn't work in the long term. I think someones dietician said the same thing. I know it sounds boring but is the best way to bring your weight down and keep it down.

littlemisssensible · 05/10/2006 13:11

Hmmm, 1-2lb a month is interesting! I hadn't heard that before but I can see the sense behind it!

Intellectually I can see that adjusting my diet so that I'm eating 3 healthy meals a day with a couple of healthy snacks thrown in and the occassional treat, will lead to a gradual loss of weight which might be sustainable. Problem is the intellect goes out the window when stuff gets depressing/difficult/bloody awful! :-(

I have found that if I can just make myself eat breakfast the rest of the day seems to follow through reasonably sucessfully. Just gotta keep eating breakfast!!!!

littlemisssensible · 05/10/2006 13:15

Oooops!

Forgot to say congrats to lemonaid and Titianred and also to Fauve for having gotten noticeably slimmer!

suejoneziscalmernow · 05/10/2006 13:15

Sounds so simple doesn't it LMS? Of course much harder if, like most of us you have "ishoos". All you can do is try and try and try again and fall over and get back up and try again.

I too was surprised by the 1-2 lb per month but it does give you scope for putting on a little or staying the same and still making your 1-2 target. Which is much more sustainable in the long run. We live in a society that hankers for an instant fix for everything and we need to fight that too. Slow and steady wins the race

littlemisssensible · 05/10/2006 14:46

Well thats me for the day!

Off to the gym then picking up 'small girl' from school!

See you all tomorrow!

Fauve · 05/10/2006 15:13

"Noticeably slimmer" - thanks, littlemisssensible.

lemonaid · 05/10/2006 15:42

Actually, with no one having previously mentioned it since I started the programme, in the last 24 hours two separate people have told me that I've lost lots of weight [preens self]. Which does give me a big psychological boost.

I haven't been able to get rid of any clothes yet because when I started I was in a state of denial and forcing myself into clothes that were really too small for me. But those same clothes are really quite roomy now and I'm hopeful I may be able to drop a size in another month or so.

Dottydot · 05/10/2006 16:10

WWB - well done - brilliant result this week!

I'm really nervous about going to WW tonight... I didn't feel like I'd put on 2lbs last week, so what if I have again this week! . Will definitely go though or it'll be the slippery slope. Just feel worried that my body has adjusted itself to less food (honest!) and is now back to putting on weight - but that's mad so I should just get on with it and stop worrying...

suejoneziscalmernow · 05/10/2006 16:13

natural to be nervous but no need to panic if you put on weight even if it happens again. You have done so well so far the odd blip here and there isn't a major derailment just a little pause between stops.

alittleBITEshy · 05/10/2006 16:57

Sue - i think i've lost just over 2 stone in total. since may, so not bad ata ll.
