...but I don't know what.

I am sick of being on a diet, off a diet, on another diet, off that diet to, ad infinitum.

I desperately need to lose the two stone I put on while pregnant four years ago, but I can't seem to stick to anything. I am currently falling off the slimming world wagon, having previously tried most things out there - WW, low carb in various guises, hypno, cal counting...

Not sure what I hope to gain from posting this. I am just so fed up of it all and so fed up of being fat and needed somewhere to rant.

As you were.

Also it was holiday weight which normally comes off easily if you do it quickly I've found.
Absolutely : because its not "fat" its undigested food!

Lasagna sounds lovely. Chips are completely not needed - serve it onto a small plate and have a load of sliced tomatoes with it . Yummy, healthy and VERY filling

You will find that once you start to eat mindfully - ie looking at each piece of food and deciding if you actually do want it, rather than just snorting a family bag of crisps, its easy to eat less

ChesterDrawers · 03/09/2014 13:06

You're doing so well ledkr, however it happens it's still tough for anyone to lose so no need to feel a fraud.

I've just found my 'fat' photo. Was sorting a photo box order and going through the camera from our summer hol in France. Bloody hell, I look dreadful. I can't stop thinking about one photo in particular, that going to be the one I use to show how fat I used to be. I'm wearing a short dress and my legs are huge, not to mention my arms Shock. I've lost about half a stone since then but more to go so got to keep on keeping on.

Certainly made my fast day a little bit easier.

Question - Any ideas how I can get my digestive tract functioning properly ?

I am doing the things I should - 6+ pints water a day, LOADS of veg, some seeds for non-soluable fibre, occasional piece of fruit (but limiting as reducing sugar)? I think by cutting back on portion size, esp carbs has meant there is less to process, so all taking longer to pass through, as it were. Had to take senna in the end last weekend.

Apologies ladies for TMI, but for the little I am eating (1200 cals) I feel really bloated, which makes me unmotivated, and the waistband even tighter, and generally feeling yuck. Lack of exercise (back still sore!) not helping.

Am I alone? Will my body adjust to the new way of eating soon?

antarctic · 03/09/2014 17:05

Just popping in to say hello and well done to everyone!

I'm on day 3 of Phase 1 of the Harcombe diet and it's going well so far. Today's temptation was scones made with DC3, but I didn't have a single crumb!

antarctic · 03/09/2014 17:09

Sorry stars, x posted with you. I'm not sure if I can help you re what is causing the bloated ness, but hopefully someone else can. Am sure your body will adjust soon??

starsinthenight · 03/09/2014 17:15

Thanks antarctic, am sure all will settle in time. Just annoying!
Well done you for resisting temptations. Have a good Day 4 tomorrow too

Justwhateverreally · 03/09/2014 17:23

Hi stars, I've been lurking on the crazy diet thread a bit and one of the more sensible suggestions on there is lemon juice to help your digestion 'get moving'. The same poster also suggested soaking lemon peel in hot water for five mins or so and drinking the infusion, to help reduce water bloating.
I've tried it today and it definitely helps. Admittedly I've spent half the day on the loo, but hey, it works! I don't feel bloated anymore.

I always wondered why all the Hollywood starlets said they started the day with a cup of hot water with a slice of lemon in it. Now I know - it's to keep their systems moving while they're on a permanent diet!

Ledkr · 03/09/2014 18:28

I heard that about the lemon, I may try that.

RadioMusicola · 03/09/2014 19:25

Hi all, oh bugger, weighed myself today and am 15 st 3 lbs so am very gutted about that. Sad I think I might have the most to lose......

Onwards and upwards.

starsinthenight · 03/09/2014 19:44

Thanks Just. Will just make hot water + lemon now. Will pretend it's a G&T

Radio - no judgement on this thread. Plus, it could be said that you have most to gain. Just think of the sense of achievement stone by stone. Go for it !!!

RadioMusicola · 03/09/2014 20:35

Ta stars I was a bit shocked... But six weeks of eating whatever I wanted has taken it's toll!

TalkinPeace · 03/09/2014 20:43

starsinthenight
bloating is actually rather common when changing what you eat

  • common on the 5:2 threads
my best suggestion is to try to get longer breaks between your food eg small breakfast at 7 then nothing till light lunch at 1 then nothing till supper at 7 and only drink water (but drinks, not constant sipping) or tea or coffee in between PS even on low sugar diets, real fruit is still OK as the positives outweigh the negatives
TalkinPeace · 03/09/2014 20:45

Radiomusicola
If you've piled it on over the last 6 weeks, much of that weight will be undigested food and retained water rather than laid down fat.
If you are really strict with yourself for the same amount of time
the weight will fly back off.

Work out your TDEE at your "happy weight" and see whether you can eat within that amount Monday to Thursday
you'll amaze yourself

Ledkr · 03/09/2014 21:05

Is there an online tool which you can work all that out talking please?

TalkinPeace · 03/09/2014 21:10

Ledkr
Its this one ...
Put in your current numbers ....

BMI should be between 18.5 and 24.5 for black and white people
BMI should be between 17.5 and 23 for Asians
( scientific data sets due to genetic difference in skeleton size )

A neat way to learn how to eat long term is to suss out your happy weight sedentary TDEE
and you'll be shocked how little it is - especially as you get older

Ledkr · 03/09/2014 21:16

Mine is actually a lot more than I'd eat on MFP. Would you lose weight on that?

I'm off to Zumba tomorrow with some friends. I'm quite looking forward to it as I'm an ex dancer so should be able to pick it up quickly. (Ish)

TalkinPeace · 03/09/2014 21:20

Ledkr
if MFP is set for rapid weight loss it will be low
BUT
is that sustainable week in, week out, month in, month out
because
yoyo dieting happens when people give up on a strict diet .....

kaylacrackers · 03/09/2014 21:42

Evening all! Well today is just awful. Good all day and treated myself to chicken breast and chips. BIG MISTAKE! I have been in agony all evening. The greasy chips have given me awful indigestion and I feel physically sick. I feel really ill still but am going to try and sleep because I need to be up early tomorrow.

I've downloaded MFP and am fasting tomorrow then will pay much closer attention to calories on other days with tdee etc.

Going to sleep now because I feel so awful. Night everyone! Sad

cleanmachine · 03/09/2014 21:44

I've been fasting and did low carb on nfd but found I was bloated and very constipated. I'm back on some carbs now like w/m toast and pitta. I lose more with low carbon buy for me it starts to get painful when I haven't been for a week.

Will try the lemon juice trick. Does it have to be fresh lemons or will squeeze lemon work too?!

TalkinPeace · 03/09/2014 21:45

kayla
have a glass of warm milk
it will help your body settle the grease of the chips

Ledkr · 03/09/2014 21:49

If I ate 1600 cals I could still lose weight because yes, even with hardly any fat 1200 is very difficult and inflexible.

RadioMusicola · 03/09/2014 21:52

Thanks talk Smile

Oh no kayla get well soon.

Justwhateverreally · 03/09/2014 22:45

Cleanmachine - I don't know what works best, all I know is what I've tried so far. I juiced half a lemon and downed it (while making cats-bum faces) first thing this morning on an empty stomach, then steeped the leftover lemon rind in boiled water for five to ten mins and drank that.

Not sure it needs the full on treatment everyday.

Justwhateverreally · 03/09/2014 22:46

Kayla - hope you feel better in the morning.

JeniJones · 03/09/2014 22:50

Ledkr there are lots of foods you can have at picnic.
Bread roll, no butter but filled with ham and salad.
Cooked chicken drumsticks (no skin) but cooked cook in soy sauce and honey
cold savoury rice with raisins or pasta with peppers, spring onions, toms etc
filled pittas with tubs of salsa, quark and sweetcorn with spring onion and chilli sauce
also oven baked potato skins to dip in.
Yoghurt ( fat free but only because I know your not having fat)
fruit
dried fruit

small portion homemade chicken and coconut curry, one poppadum, chutney
Small glass real coke
