...but I don't know what.

I am sick of being on a diet, off a diet, on another diet, off that diet to, ad infinitum.

I desperately need to lose the two stone I put on while pregnant four years ago, but I can't seem to stick to anything. I am currently falling off the slimming world wagon, having previously tried most things out there - WW, low carb in various guises, hypno, cal counting...

Not sure what I hope to gain from posting this. I am just so fed up of it all and so fed up of being fat and needed somewhere to rant.

As you were.

Are we putting fractions into spreadsheet? Have lost 1/2lb (only started yesterday!) I have taken 0.5 off if that's ok. Well done everyone and thanks for some great tips and motivation.

JeniJones · 02/09/2014 11:26

I have lost nothing. Felt a bit Whats the point, I cant lose weight and thought I would just not bother posting and give it up as a bad job. Then I came on the thread just now and saw others have not lost, some have gained but they have all been brave enough to say so and carry on even though they are a little disappointed like me. Thank you to those of you Flowers. I am doing mindful eating and using Paul McKenna Virtual Gastric Band and he suggests not weighing for a month (I think). So I am not going to self sabotage. I am in my early 50s and weight loss is definitely harder. Thanks everyone.Smile

cleanmachine · 02/09/2014 11:31

Survived a really tough fast yesterday and pleased to report 2 lb off . Should be been more but it's time of month next week and I can't stop eating . Some test fasting us piss easy and other times its hell.

8 can't open the sheet but if anyone else does can you update my loss ?

Keep going everyone. I'm trying to be good today but have already had half a piece of toast and a white bap with egg mayo. I hate eating early as it just sets me off. Wonderful to read all the losses.

TalkinPeace · 02/09/2014 13:00

jeni
weight loss is NOT a straight line
its a slow gradual process of eating less, getting your body to make more efficient use of what you eat, getting fitter and aiming for LEAN NOT THIN as everybody can be lean, not everybody can be thin

I've lost 2 lb in the last 2 days : but I know for a fact that its an aberration so I'll not count it until I check on the scales at the gym on Friday I do not own a set of scales

Justwhateverreally · 02/09/2014 13:07

Stick with it Jeni! I didn't lose but I'm enjoying the fact that I can get my belt in two notches. I think it's known as a non-scales victory... Do you have anything similar you can use to monitor yourself, like a favourite pair of jeans that are too tight or somesuch? Even when you haven't lost lb you may find you've lost inches... Next week it will be us with a loss to report Smile

JeniJones · 02/09/2014 13:56

Thankyou Just and Talk. I know what you say makes perfect sense. I just find it harder to lose weight since turning 50. Wink

TalkinPeace · 02/09/2014 14:02

jeni
harder but entirely possible - lots of over 50s on the 5:2 forums and at my gym ... I'm your side of 48 ....
you have to remember that your calorie needs drop by about 5% per decade
so you need to eat less and move more to keep the muscles burning stuff up

JeniJones · 02/09/2014 14:12

Talk Thanks for listening.

TalkinPeace · 02/09/2014 16:29

HTH Jeni

One of the really important things to realise when heading for long term settling at a "happy" weight is your own _personal daily calorie requirement.
The 2000 on the side of the cereal packet was for a 5'6 35 year old house wife in the 1950's who did not have access to modern equipment.

The number you need to hold in your head is your sedentary TDEE
( that is the one that applies on a day at work or on Mumsnet )
Put your details into the link here
thefastdiet.co.uk/how-many-calories-on-a-non-fast-day/

Mine is 1447 on a non gym day and 1869 on a gym day .....

Eating that number of calories per day (averaged across the week) will keep my weight stable.

A fun thing to try is to work out your TDEE at your happy weight and stay within that as much as you can .... that way stable healthy weight lies

AddictedtoCrunchies · 02/09/2014 16:50

Talk how did you work it for a gym and non gym day?
Mine for sedentary is 1995 and for 3-5 times a week option is 2577. Is that how you did it? Should I try and average it?
If I aim for 1995 but maintain.my current exercise levels would that work?
I have adopted your 'minimal breakfast and absolutely no snacking' rule. So far so good but it's only day 1

TalkinPeace · 02/09/2014 16:55

crunchies
yup, sedentary versus moderately active

if you aim for 1995 averaged over the week and then make sure you reduce the target as you lose weight, the pounds will start to get burned off.

AddictedtoCrunchies · 02/09/2014 17:04

So shall i input 1995 into mfp and set my exercise to 0?

TalkinPeace · 02/09/2014 17:07

Go for it
And never, ever add back exercise calories in MFP or any other system
you will always over estimate the amount you actually did so its easier to not count it at all

AddictedtoCrunchies · 02/09/2014 17:31

ok thanks for your help. Thanks

RadioMusicola · 02/09/2014 18:15

Well done everyone. And mint I am joining you for an early night and a good book! I am trying to read Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood but it's a slog....

That has made me feel really excited about this evening now where I was dreading it before as I go back to work (after a few weeks break Wink tomorrow).

I am slightly apprehensive about finding out exactly how much I weigh tomorrow but am resolute in my determination to keep up with you lot and lose the two stone by crimbo.

cleanmachine · 02/09/2014 19:21

Oh ffs my new phone and it's bastard predictive text! Sorry for all the typos .

Cornholio · 02/09/2014 19:59

Have "lost" a pound but that's because the previous measurement was taken at midday, and today's one was before breakfast!
Good food day today but god, I really want a glass of wine! Have told myself none until Thurs when we're out with friends. Wish me luck!

thobblywighs · 02/09/2014 20:11

Some great losses here and lots of determination. Have come on here to read this to try and stop myself from raiding the fridge. Going to have a big glass of water now and then clean my teeth. Thank you to whoever has updated the spreadsheet for me. Mint baileys? I can't seem to do it from the iPad.
Happy days

HaroldCopter · 03/09/2014 06:19

Good morning, how is everyone today? Some great losses yesterday, especially antimatter and Shoop - well done! And great to see those who haven't lost/have gained staying positive. As soon as I have a bad day or don't see results I tend to think F*ck it and fall off the wagon so that will be my challenge in weeks to come!

Had a good food day yesterday though and have just done 20mins/200 cals jogging on the treadmill so today's off to a good start! Dinner tonight will be my challenge, leftover lasagne from the weekend so I need to make myself have a minute normal sized portion and just salad, no chips. Wish me luck!

tipp2chicago · 03/09/2014 07:35

weighed myself this morning, 205! down 3lb in a week! delighted!

ChesterDrawers · 03/09/2014 09:19

Good day yesterday, ate well, no snacking although I did have two bottles of Becks to help my sore throat, purely medicinal. Slept well for the first time in ages too.

Fasting again today, although feeling hungry already which I didn't on Monday. Need to go and have a look,at what we have in the freezer or tea, but probably salmon and veggies.

Have a good day all Smile

Morning all, today's a new day and I'm Grin
Have a good one Thanks Brew

tipp2chicago · 03/09/2014 10:20

TalkinPeace, I will try not to snack. (I can hear Yoda in my head now...) DH is going to be away for two weeks for work after we come back, so I am promising myself that I will not drink (no matter how much DD winds me up) while he is gone. I am having a Tesco delivery shortly before he goes so I will stock up on whole foods - no low fat/low sugar/chemical shitstorm stuff. Proper food, just less of it.

I had Fish & Chips for dinner last night. Weighed out my chips and left them to one side of the tray. It looked like a very small portion, but honestly, I wasn't hungry after it at all. Revelation!

Ledkr · 03/09/2014 10:50

Hello everyone.
I feel fraudulent cos I've lost loads but it's mostly through illness and my new massively restricted diet.
Also it was holiday weight which normally comes off easily if you do it quickly I've found.
I feel pretty good too, skin is nice etc but my belly is vile so can't wait to lose a bit of that. I've had five dc four of them by section so I've a bit of a problem area.Hmm
Just had poached eggs which I can tolerate even tho a bit fatty. Am taking the little ones to the outdoor pool for a swim so will be a picnic lunch mostly no good for me so it will be mostly fruit as picnic food is hard to do as low fat.
Well done everyone.
