How can I lose 10lbs before my holiday on, er, Monday?

WhatsGoingOnEh · 12/08/2014 23:47

In a panic. Was meant to start diet in May but one thing (or rather, one pizza) led to another and now I've got less than a week.

I'm 5'6" and look great at 9st 7. This morning I was 10st 11! Shiiiiiiiit!

What can I do? I really REALLY need to crash some of this off. I don't care if it's unhealthy, it's only for a few days and I can do it properly when I get home.

Any and all ideas MASSIVELY gratefully received. What are your tried and tested tricks? Thank you!

Wait... Now I've eaten (two grilled lamb chops with a tin of ratatouille, and 3 glasses of water - I actually feel quite sick now) I can read your comments properly.

A WATER FAST? Isn't that just drinking water? Water and nothing else..? I like the idea of adding vitamins (thank you, Kelly) but otherwise just water?

OK, that's hardcore. I now feel like a gluttonous pig for eating chops. Plus, I got all confused again about the "fat - good or bad?" debate. I started off cutting the fat off the chops, then remembered that carbs, not fat, are the new diet enemy, so I ate the fat. Then felt guilty about the ratatouille (which was only 60 cals) because I remembered reading on MN that onions are quite carby. ?!

There was a big bowl of fresh raspberries on the table too, with a tub of double cream. Should I have drunk the cream and swerved the berries?? As it was, I got so confused I had neither. Which is slimming.

I just realised that I've ignored all your tips all day and just eaten whatever. I'm really sorry.

The 3-day diet looks good, but again REALLY carby. Bread this, crackers that. Don't carbs make you hungrier?

I lost my 3st on the Scarsdale Diet which is a realllllly strict book (1p on Amazon!) that tells you what to eat every day. I loved that structure. I lost 1lb/day on that and kept it off for 2 years because it had changed how I ate completely.

Then I moved into my parents' house while I try to buy my own place, and... Well, here we are.

You need to stand like this on your holiday, just don't move

I love this thread!

Any chance, OP, of asking for it to be moved to one of the Weight Loss topics IDC so it doesn't go phut in 90 days?

I'm now wondering about treating myself to one of those slimmeria packages (was thinking about a spa break this autumn anyhow). I've only got 3 days to summer hols, so not much chance of perceptible weight loss for that. But a couple of weeks drastic on return, kick starting a "let's get this seriously sorted before Christmas" might be good.

Cocolepew · 13/08/2014 20:01

I tried standing to the side with one leg in front of the other yesterday, like slebs do to look thinner, while DH was taking a photo. He asked me if I needed a wee so I didn't quite get the desired effect.

I'm off for a sleepover spa break tomorrow, I may pass out from breathing in.

KittiesInsane · 13/08/2014 20:13

Get different scales. And put them on a nice thick carpet...

FrankSpencer · 13/08/2014 20:35

Dedication, OP! and purlease whatever you do - keep on posting. I've been arf-ing at all the comments.

WhatsGoingOnEh · 13/08/2014 20:42

You're all so nice. I just ate a (tiny) bag of Haribo and feel like I've let you all down.

This is the best thread I've read in ages! Grin

WyrdByrd · 13/08/2014 20:48

Lmao at this thread (not literally, more's the pity!)

I have a mahoosive amount of weight to lose before I turn forty in 13 months time Confused .

Was doing OK, slow and steady at the gym - not sure of weight but had dropped a dress and bra size, then the summer hols struck and I suspect I'm back to square one.

Am now thinking of doing a quick fix for a week or two come September to give myself a boot up the bum.

Good luck OP, even though I am Envy that you're a size 10 & just under 11 stone - that seems like the Holy Grail to me!

WhatsGoingOnEh · 13/08/2014 20:55

I'm not a comfortable size 10. When I take my jeans off, I have thick, raised weals all around my waist. Like I've just been sewn back together after a full-body lift. Albeit an unsuccessful one.

OP posts:
WhatsGoingOnEh · 13/08/2014 20:58

Anyway, aren't sizes just bollocks now? Isn't today's size 10 the equivalent of 1984's XL? When I got really thin, I was a size 8, sometimes (joyfully!) a 6. I had a week when my skirt-size was smaller than my shoes. I was insufferable that week.

You have let us all down. We are relying on you to prove what works!!

Good luck and enjoy your holiday!

I have lost 2 stone and put one back on and seriously hate myself right now. I hate that I am fat. I hate that I care. I hate that food controls me.

WhatsGoingOnEh · 13/08/2014 21:05

This is no good! All I've done tonight is lie on my bed, for two hours, scrolling through DM photos of Kimberley Garner. WHY. No exercise, no water, no green tea. I CAN'T start a thread like this where you all post such helpful, useful advice on losing weight, and then just lie on my bed reading, and eating Haribo.

I have a rowing machine at the end of my bed. As I look at it now, it has a pile of clean pants on the seat, and a single ballet pump resting over one of the handles.

OK! Thank you for this, it's inspiring. I promise I will do it properly from now on and check in with scale-updates.

I'll drink 2 glasses of water now, and a green tea, then go to bed. I'll weigh again in the morning. Tomorrow, I'll do Day 1 of the James Duncan "how to lose a stone in a week" diet so we can see if it does anything.

So I'll eat this:

BREAKFAST 1 slice dry toast with 1 grilled tomato OR tinned tomatoes
LUNCH Fresh fruit - any amount
DINNER 2 hard boiled eggs, salad & grapefruit

Luckily, I'm working tomorrow so I'll be busy. Unluckily, I'm working at a pop-up restaurant of all places! Hope they're serving fruit. Lots of fruit. Lots.

I just found Boycat with his head in the bowl of tuna and when I took it away he put his paw in my box of chicken pasta salad. I insisted DH come and look as it was funny and I cant wait to tell the kid there is no lunch tomorrow Grin.

I am besotted with my cat Grin and the children were told to put the left over food in the fridge... He is now trying to eat DD's porridge...

what really happened was I heard the noise of the spoon bangng against the bowl as he tried to get through the food cover to the tuna and I lifted it off to see if he really did want tuna...he did

temporaryusername · 13/08/2014 21:39

Don't drink anything - even a sip of water, or eat, before weighing yourself - it can alter the result by half a stone I have read! Hair bobbles - yes, they are heavy and must come off - do you wear contact lenses? Because they weigh more than you'd think. Obviously wee just before weighing too.

ZanyMobster · 13/08/2014 21:47

Water and apples only until holiday, you will lose weight, detox but obviously will put it all back on very quickly! Make sure you have a big wee before weigh in also!

In all seriousness you can lose a good few pounds before Monday by eating a lot less, exercise is fabulous when you are doing a longer term weight loss programme but diet is the key really.

Cabbage soup diet is fabulous for a quick fix, I wanted to punch people as I was starving and miserable but I lost 8lb and pretty much only had that to lose.

5madthings · 13/08/2014 22:15

Love this thread!

I have been trying g to lose weight for my holiday and have lost half a stone and now stalled due to too much chocolate...

Have bookmarked the dirt links and am tempted by the James Duncan diet with the grapefruit etc.. I go on holiday a week this Saturday so can lose half a stone yes... I have a pair of size ten jeans I was wearing last summer that looked fab, now they give me a major muffin top.. Garr at stopping exercising, I have started running again and doing davina or Nell mcandrew dvds but need to keep at it and not eat shit...

WaveorCheer · 13/08/2014 22:59

I've just ordered the Scarsdale diet book Blush

PenelopeLane · 13/08/2014 23:13

Now I think about it I lost over half a stone in a few days when I was younger after my long-term boyfriend told me he was gay.

So with that and my above mentioned stomach flu I can say I've done it twice ...

WhatsGoingOnEh · 13/08/2014 23:16

Itsfab - I think your cat and I are cut from the same cloth...

Can water alter the scales by 7lbs?! That's insane! I believe it though. And yes to the giant pre-weigh wee. Always!

I'm actually thinking of taking my scales on holiday. My weight seems to be like the boiler in the beginning of The Shining (the book). "She creeps..."

The Scarsdale diet book recommends weighing every morning. Which I know WW and the like consider to be a Mortal Sin, but I think it's sensible. It stops situations like this where you turn around one day and find you've piled on 4 stone.

OP posts:
WyrdByrd · 13/08/2014 23:22

Scarsdale looks the kind of thing my mum did I was a kid Grin - am going to do that for the first two weeks of September then get back to my low GI/Hairy dieters plan.

The main thing is I can drink coffee. I attempted Dukan but after 3 days had a horrific migraine and have sworn never to give up caffeine again.

I have still got size 12's with the labels on from my early twenties when I started putting weight on Blush - if I ever got my target it will be interesting to see how they fit.

WhatsGoingOnEh · 13/08/2014 23:24

I've had Slimmers Tea, water and vitamins. I'm proper, proper starving. This level of pain has GOT to translate itself onto the scales tomorrow.
