Paul McKenna's 'I Can Make You Thin' Thread #15...The New Beginning!

Welcome to thread #15 of the Paul McKenna's I Can Make You Thin weight loss system.

The Golden Rules that will aid you on your journey with our like minded friendly support system are:

  1. Eat what you WANT
  2. Eat when you are HUNGRY
  3. Eat CONSCIOUSLY
  4. STOP eating when you are satisfied and full

HELPFUL TIPS!
Lots of chewing; at least 20 chews per mouthful.

Ask yourself "am I really hungry?" Listen for your 'full signal' and leave at least a mouthful on your plate at every meal. Eat your favourite thing from your plate first so that if you get to the full signal, but have your favourite food still sitting there, you aren't going to 'make room' for it because you love it, it will have already gone.

Admire something about yourself every day in the mirror.
Try to move more; dance around the living room or walk to school...use the stairs...small things, but good things!

This weight loss system is about re-educating your body; learning to listen to it and in doing so losing weight and inches. After all, eating a meal is not a competition, it's about enjoying what you are putting into your mouth and body, but not feeling bloated and uncomfortable (or guilty) afterwards!
Many people have issues around food. Many of us have been brought up by the 'clear your plate' parents of yesteryear which leave us feeling guilty if we leave even the smallest morsel of food, but we are working through this guilt or any other hang up we may have, and we are learning to leave a bit on the plate; return to it another time if we really want to or even feed it to the dog or the bin!
So!! forget diets; they may work for a while, but they aren't permanent solutions. This is a new way of living for your brand new life!! Let's get lighter for those summer outfits!!

The Paul McKenna system really works and is easy to maintain.

I've C&P'd our previous threads links as they are helpful.

Here are the book choices on AMAZON which is all you need to get started! they aren't compulsory, but they do help! it's something to refer to and listening to the cd's can really focus you.

This is the tapping technique EXPLAINED - this can be useful to combat cravings.

You don't have to buy the book and CD, but we have found that they do help and somehow they keep you on track, so it would probably be a good investment and will cost you far less than a couple of trips to WW or SW meetings, so do consider having them in your life.

Please feel free to join us, whether it's 10lbs or 10 stones you want to lose.
We are friendly, supportive and successful, but we're not hungry and that is a great way to feel when you are dropping dress sizes at the same time!!! so come on in and start living your new life today and make 2014 your year to drop a dress size or several...if we can get those lbs off a few at a time, just think how we could look and feel for the sunny summer time!!!
Some of our thread members are also doing PMK's Virtual Gastric Band and although this thread is not about this avenue, we will still be supportive of our friends partaking of this, so don't think we won't be there for you. I'm pretty sure that the Golden Rules will be just as helpful in this process as the I Can Make You Thin process Smile so get stuck in Smile

Here is a link to From Emotional Eating which may give some insight into why we do this and help us beat it.

Ps. Could we all try to sign in at least every few days so that someone is there? We have established that it's no fun talking to ourselves and also that if there is a new joiner, it's good to say 'hello and welcome' to them too.

Ok! Let's Focus and See Ourselves wearing that body we desire! learning to love ourselves is an important daily step, so let's become LOSERS in order to be WINNERS!!! :)

What did you wear *Solo?

I am still 6-8lbs down and hope to lose another 5lb-10lbs by Christmas. Probably 5lbs more likely but 10 is do-able. What about anyone else?
Thing is this way of eating does work but you have to really "do it". Be in the moment with it. It works when you only eat when your hungry, truly hungry.

I have seen many people come and go on this thread and I wonder why they give up. Are diets better? Do diets work and work long term? Does having someone else tell you what and when to eat work? Not in my experience. I think you also have to be honest with yourself too and realise that if you gain weight or don't lose any then you are just not doing it properly. I definitely find the more I read the book and listen to the CDS the better if works for me and keeps me focused.

I think coming on here often also helps to keep you focused. I know when people don't write on here and I click on then it puts me off writing too. So if there are some of us left who are still doing it, is there any possibility we could all try and maybe post once a day to say how were doing ect . It would help us all I think Smile

hippyfly · 19/11/2014 16:39

I've been doing it for a week now and lost 3lbs - listened almost everyday - I find it easier to listen to the trance in a morning as soon as my son has gone to school - if I leave it until later I tend not to get round to it. Its amazing how I don't feel hungry all the time and am not constantly thinking about food. :)

Millli · 19/11/2014 20:17

That's really good going Hippy.

Solo · 20/11/2014 01:21

THIS with a black bolero over. And I had to get the next size down!!

I know what you mean about posting daily, but it's not always possible. I do try to post often though.

Hippy brilliant!!!

Millli · 20/11/2014 08:42

That dress is gorgeous Solo. Grin
I know its not always possible to post everyday but if everyone could post a bit more often it would help to support us all and keep momentum going. It helps I think.

PoirotsMoustache · 20/11/2014 09:21

I would post most days if I were doing at all well, but I'm not. I can't get my head into the right place to do anything. I'm slowly getting better at stopping eating when I'm full, but I haven't yet managed to do that for a whole day!

Well done Millli and Hippy, you're doing brilliantly.

hippyfly · 20/11/2014 09:59

PoirotsMoustache - I have found that by listening often to the cd it has changed my mindset even when I'm not thinking about it all (hope that makes sense) - been feeling really rough for last couple of days - full of cold and normally I would be turning to food for comfort but I find I'm not even thinking about food which is really unusual for me - keep at it :)

Millli · 20/11/2014 12:20

Poirots that is why I feel it would be good to post most days if we can. If we are having a bad day then we can post about it and others can help us to get back on track and help. Smile. Its days like that when we all need support not just the good days or when we are losing weight.
Why do you feel you cant get your head in the right place? What is happening that is preventing it do you think?

hippy I have just spent the last week having a cold too. Its getting better now. I didn't overeat but did feel hungrier but then I do when my body is fighting a cold. Re inserted my band yesterday though so all is good.

Solo · 20/11/2014 12:58

Thank you!! I love it too!

I agree about the need for support when things aren't going so well, but I also know why I don't particularly want to post when they aren't. I haven't lost weight in ages, but i try to post.

OP posts:
Millli · 20/11/2014 13:29

I do understand that feeling and get it but its that feeling that makes people give up. Solo you started this thread and have been on a year longer than me but you have seen many people come and go. Often its because although people initially see results and know that it works (everyone says it works ) they then get complacent (as we all do) and they stop losing and then adopt a diet mentality and lose momentum with it. Maybe if we could post when we feel like giving up as well as when we are doing well it would help....maybe? I just hate to think of people trying to make this work and then giving up because they have a few bad days or weeks. Sorry if I am being too simplistic. Smile

Solo · 20/11/2014 23:39

No, I agree Millli :)

OP posts:
Steala · 21/11/2014 04:05

I haven't posted for a while because it's not going great and I don't want to put a downer on others. I'm struggling with the eating slowly and I feel rebellious - I don't WANT to stop. I want to keep eating and I also want a Mars bar. It's silly self-sabotage.

I am under a lot of work stress at the moment and some home stress (nothing bad) and eating slowly and constantly questioning whether I am satisfied seems ludicrous and takes more headspace than I feel I can spare. I also feel I deserve treats for working so hard, when a better reward would be to feel healthy and confident about my weight. Silly self sabotage.

I agree with the system and it should be straightforward. Food represents so much more than fuel to me and breaking that mindset takes mental energy.

hippyfly · 21/11/2014 09:23

I agree too Millli

I felt the same as you Steala - I tried the ICMYT and GB without success (not because they don't work but because like you say I was kinda fighting it) but the the 'emotional eating' book/cd/dvd is working for me. :)

Millli · 21/11/2014 11:30

Morning!

Well yesterday was not the best for me. I ate slightly unmindfully. Thursdays I spend on my own from morning till late at night as DH goes to work and then after work goes straight to a course which is an hours drive away. So I have noticed that when I am on my own for too long that I tend to turn to food. I guess it keeps me company or something like that. I know it is emotional eating and Im getting better at recognising it but its still hard to override.

Steala, please keep posting. If you want the mars bar then please have it but I find that when I am in the "zone" that I can have a good mouthful of the Mars bar and then think about if I can leave the rest till later. Its not easy but I do have quite a few uneaten bars of chocolate in the drawer that need throwing out. I actually forget about them lol.

I still fight the diet mentality myself especially when I have a bad day. But I always end up back in the same place and that is that for me at least, diets don't work, they end in a binge. This way of eating "normally" is something I can do for life. I may not be losing as quickly as I would like but I have to stop trying for the 4lb per week mentality as that's where madness lies, isn't it?

So back to mindful eating today. So far I have had a creamy jammy dodger with a cup of tea as I woke up with a headache and needed something quick so I could take tablets.
Smile

Steala · 22/11/2014 10:54

Thank you all for being supportive. Yesterday was a marginally better day. One thing that does seem to be working is my motivation to exercise. It's probably making me hungrier though. I know I need to eat when I'm hungry and eat until I'm satisfied but, as everyone knows, it is quite incredibly easy to out eat exercise and gain weight that way.

Exercise is a good thing for me, though, physically and mentally. I'll keep working on the eating mindfully!

Millli · 22/11/2014 14:14

Im still struggling a bit. My cold seems to have changed by appetite. Sigh!!

hippyfly · 22/11/2014 16:42

Same here Millli - not been listening to trance for about three days - its a bit difficult when your coughing and sneezing - not feeling especially hungry but really fussy about what I feel like - feel a bit better today so will try and get back into tomorrow :)

Solo · 23/11/2014 11:54

Still maintaining here. May try to step it up a bit I think. Must also listen to the CD's again.

I hope you are all feeling better soon! Dd has a streaming cold and I really hope I don't get it. You know what they say; feed a cold; starve a fever so eat to bring your health back on track.

OP posts:
Millli · 23/11/2014 14:00

Yes Solo maybe that its it. Your body needs you to eat so it can repair itself. I shall listen to my CD again today. Im feeling better anyway and feel back in control of my eating. No urges to eat when not hungry anymore.
Hows you hippy

gunsandbanjos · 24/11/2014 07:10

Morning! I've been faffing around lately and not really doing it 100%, obviously still not overeating though as not gained any weight.

Weighed this morning and I'm 1lb down on last week.

Got 2.8 lbs to go until I'm in the next stone category! Determined to do it.

PoirotsMoustache · 24/11/2014 09:11

I feel much like Steala to be honest. But without doing any exercise!

I think I've spent so many years dieting (21!) that, although I know this isn't a diet, I have just had enough of paying attention to what I eat. I know this is a good way to eat, but I am just rebelling against all of it. I just want to eat what's in front of me, and not worry about listening to my body or satisfaction levels or being mindful. I'm in a self-destructive cycle whereby I look in the mirror and am disgusted with my body, but then I still carry on and shovel food into my mouth. And there is no reason for me to be comfort eating, I am happy with my life in general. Maybe it's the unhappiness with my body that is making me reach for the bombay mix & pringles when I'm not remotely hungry.

I meant to weigh myself this morning, but forgot.
It doesn't help that I keep not getting around to listening to the CD.

I hope all of you with colds or whose children have colds are better soon. Sorry for the dreadful grammar, but I hope you know what I mean!

Well done, guns! I have a big smile on my face on your behalf.
