Paul McKenna's 'I Can Make You Thin' Thread #15...The New Beginning!

Welcome to thread #15 of the Paul McKenna's I Can Make You Thin weight loss system.

The Golden Rules that will aid you on your journey with our like minded friendly support system are:

  1. Eat what you WANT
  2. Eat when you are HUNGRY
  3. Eat CONSCIOUSLY
  4. STOP eating when you are satisfied and full

HELPFUL TIPS!
Lots of chewing; at least 20 chews per mouthful.

Ask yourself "am I really hungry?" Listen for your 'full signal' and leave at least a mouthful on your plate at every meal. Eat your favourite thing from your plate first so that if you get to the full signal, but have your favourite food still sitting there, you aren't going to 'make room' for it because you love it, it will have already gone.

Admire something about yourself every day in the mirror.
Try to move more; dance around the living room or walk to school...use the stairs...small things, but good things!

This weight loss system is about re-educating your body; learning to listen to it and in doing so losing weight and inches. After all, eating a meal is not a competition, it's about enjoying what you are putting into your mouth and body, but not feeling bloated and uncomfortable (or guilty) afterwards!
Many people have issues around food. Many of us have been brought up by the 'clear your plate' parents of yesteryear which leave us feeling guilty if we leave even the smallest morsel of food, but we are working through this guilt or any other hang up we may have, and we are learning to leave a bit on the plate; return to it another time if we really want to or even feed it to the dog or the bin!
So!! forget diets; they may work for a while, but they aren't permanent solutions. This is a new way of living for your brand new life!! Let's get lighter for those summer outfits!!

The Paul McKenna system really works and is easy to maintain.

I've C&P'd our previous threads links as they are helpful.

Here are the book choices on AMAZON which is all you need to get started! they aren't compulsory, but they do help! it's something to refer to and listening to the cd's can really focus you.

This is the tapping technique EXPLAINED - this can be useful to combat cravings.

You don't have to buy the book and CD, but we have found that they do help and somehow they keep you on track, so it would probably be a good investment and will cost you far less than a couple of trips to WW or SW meetings, so do consider having them in your life.

Please feel free to join us, whether it's 10lbs or 10 stones you want to lose.
We are friendly, supportive and successful, but we're not hungry and that is a great way to feel when you are dropping dress sizes at the same time!!! so come on in and start living your new life today and make 2014 your year to drop a dress size or several...if we can get those lbs off a few at a time, just think how we could look and feel for the sunny summer time!!!
Some of our thread members are also doing PMK's Virtual Gastric Band and although this thread is not about this avenue, we will still be supportive of our friends partaking of this, so don't think we won't be there for you. I'm pretty sure that the Golden Rules will be just as helpful in this process as the I Can Make You Thin process Smile so get stuck in Smile

Here is a link to From Emotional Eating which may give some insight into why we do this and help us beat it.

Ps. Could we all try to sign in at least every few days so that someone is there? We have established that it's no fun talking to ourselves and also that if there is a new joiner, it's good to say 'hello and welcome' to them too.

Ok! Let's Focus and See Ourselves wearing that body we desire! learning to love ourselves is an important daily step, so let's become LOSERS in order to be WINNERS!!! :)

I am not doing the Band CD, I downloaded the ICMYT app. It has a morning message, a check in, and a 'night-time hypnotic' session. The last thing he says in the night time thing is 'All is well', not 'wake up'.

The whole 'eating when you are hungry' thing is tricky, as I don't really know when I am really hungry - even when my stomach is rumbling, I don't necessarily feel like eating. Confused

And I realise I shouldn't feel full, I suppose satisfied is what I meant, but that is also something I struggle with. I am more or less guessing from the amount of food on my plate how much to eat, which I know isn't right. I can't always stop and start eating again later, as I work full time. Although we could snack at our desks, it's not ideal.

I definitely don't get the 'first mouthful is amazing' feeling either, although I confess I am not really 'looking' for that - too busy concentrating on chewing 20 times. Grin

Maybe it's just early days and it'll start to 'click' in the coming days - I've only been doing this for 10 days.

Thanks!

Millli · 08/11/2014 10:43

Kitty in that case I would try the gastric band CD and book. Even with the ICMYT app, you still need to read the books first to understand the principle s behind mindfull eating. If anything this woe is about the mindful eating the books teach you firstly. The CD is an added bonus but not necessary

Millli · 08/11/2014 12:31

The gastric band book and cd recalibrates your appetite and also helps with your bodies natural appetite surpressents. GLP1 and Ghrelin is affected. Reading the book is vital to understanding how and why The GBand works. The band works for me and helps me feel that satisfied feeling much stronger. Of course not everyone will agree but for me reading the books is vital if you want this to work Smile

Solo · 08/11/2014 14:13

I have still only read half the GB book! must read the rest.

OP posts:
hippyfly · 08/11/2014 14:26

I fitted my gb on thurs night and was expecting the results to be a bit more dramatic - I know I have eaten less than I normally do but still feel as though I am eating too much - does it work better in time - am I expecting too much too soon or is it maybe not working properly for me. How often do people listen to the cd after the installation :/

Solo · 08/11/2014 15:37

The first time I listened to it it worked immediately and I could not eat very much at all; felt sick if I ate more than a few mouthfuls, couldn't drink anything anywhere near to the time I ate anything or I just felt sicker than sick. Then I decided to top it up and it seemed to undo it. I need to try again. I want it to work on me and all of us!!

OP posts:
Millli · 08/11/2014 16:39

hippy I listen to it a couple of times a week. As much as possible really as it really relaxes me too but its also very important to read the book and do the 4 rules, not just rely on the hypnosis.

Its not dramatic for me, its a little voice that says "stop" and I know I have had enough.

Solo gets a little "sigh" ( if I remember correctly) and that is her signal. So even though you think listening to it again caused it to not work Solo, I would say it does work and the "sigh" is your signal to stop.

I am still losing weight since re inserting about 4 weeks ago and although its not much, it is coming off which I am pleased about. But, I am being mindful as well as listening to the CD and re read the book too.

PoirotsMoustache · 11/11/2014 10:41

I am struggling with this, I have to say. I can't seem to tell when I'm hungry in the mornings at all. Yesterday I thought I'd leave eating breakfast until I felt hungry, and I went from being fine to feeling really ill all of a sudden, and desperately needing food. There was no feeling hungry in between fine and sick.

I was then not hungry at lunchtime (have to eat at a certain time due to work), so only ate a little, then was a bit hungry at school run time (straight from work to school), so had a small snack, but then we had to go food shopping and by the time we were ready and able to eat it was fairly late and I felt sick from hunger.

The hours I work make it really hard for me to eat when I need to, rather than at a certain time. But I really need to do this, as I've put everything I lost earlier this year back on. And it's NOT a pretty sight!

I feel like crying Sad

Sorry, it's all about me Hmm

Solo · 11/11/2014 11:49

Poirot :( don't despair! I completely understand the work/eating thing. As a past Prison Officer, I could only eat at 05:30, then 1pm and if working late, I could have a quick bite at 17:30 and it was difficult! but you have to adjust it to your life.

In your situation, I think I would eat a small breakfast before or at work if that's possible? perhaps your blood sugar suddenly plummeted making you feel unwell and that's definitely not the way to go.

Eat small if you are restricted to eating at certain times, but ensure that you eat as slowly as you can and consciously. Can you put something snacky in your pocket (sorry, I don't know what type of work you do and this may not be practical or possible) that you really enjoy to take away the possibility of feeling ill. You don't have to eat it if you don't want or need to. Perhaps it's a bit trial and error for you.

If it's any consolation, you are not alone. I stepped on the scales this morning to discover I've gained several lbs.

Don't give up :) we will do this. It's going to happen for us! it will :)

OP posts:
PoirotsMoustache · 11/11/2014 14:13

Oh, Solo, thank you so much for your encouraging post! I will do as you suggest, eat small when I must eat, and have snacks ready for when I need them.

How long were you a PO for? I almost went down that path myself, passed the exam and the video exercise, but injured my neck/back before the physical so lost out on that opportunity.

I'm sorry the number on your scales has gone up rather than down.

Your positivity is wonderful, thank you. You're right, we will do this, it will happen. Smile

gunsandbanjos · 11/11/2014 19:46

That's not good poirot, maybe try eating something small/light in the morning to kind of test if you're hungry?

Solo · 11/11/2014 23:52

17 years....

OP posts:
PoirotsMoustache · 12/11/2014 08:33

gunsandbanjos Great minds think alike - that's what I did this morning! I had a small breakfast and actually felt really full and satisfied afterwards. Not overly bloated full, just I've had enough full. I have some pineapple and a packet of mini cheddars with me for if I get hungry before lunch, or if I need to eat on the school run.

Solo Wow, 17 years. I am impressed, that isn't an easy job.

hippyfly · 12/11/2014 10:00

Hi everyone, Tried the gastric band last week without success but now realise that I was hoping for a miracle and didn't really put the effort in. Anyway have now realised that the emotional eating is definitely more suited to me (may revert back to gb when I feel as though my emotional eating is more under control). Started reading the book last night - just listened to the trance and ate my breakfast whilst listening to the 'listen while you eat cd' - find it really hard to chew 20 times though as I have nothing left in my mouth after about 15 chews - maybe I should take larger bites :p - now going to practice the havening technique and later read the rest of the book. Really determined to do it all thoroughly this time. How's everyone else doing - is anyone else doing the emotional eating? x

Millli · 12/11/2014 11:59

hippyfly you have hit the nail on the head. There is NO miracle. This is just re learning how to eat normally without having any agenda. A person with no diet/eating hangups would only eat when they were hungry and stop as soon as they are satisfied. That is the aim of this and the way true sustainable weight loss lies.

Its about personal accountability. If you eat more than your body needs you will gain weight. If you eat more than your body needs you will not lose any weight. Its that really.

Paul McKenna and all the other advisors who teach Mindful Eating are saying the same thing. Yes it can be emotional, of course it can but the four rules give you all you need when it comes to not overeating.
This method does work but you have to put the work in. Its work on yourself. Learning that you do overeat when you are emotionally compromised in any way. I do this but am getting much better at accepting it and not letting it happen. You will too.

This method of learning to stop overeating will work and you and all of us can and will succeed but you have to actively tune in and stop eating more than your body needs. That is the only way it will happen.

Millli · 12/11/2014 12:17

I have now lost 8lbs in the last 5 weeks. I am really being mindful about not eating when I am not hungry. Listening to the cd and reading the books to keep me on track. The more I read the more I get that I have to make this a permanent change. I do eat whatever I want and Im learning to stop as soon as I don't feel that "hunger" anymore. Its generally a few mouthfuls, say 5, and then I just feel that I don't "need" anymore. I could carry on eating but I don't need to. Its not easy but losing the weight and still eating whatever I want keeps me going.

hippyfly · 12/11/2014 13:40

That's really great Millli - when you say you only eat about 5 mouthfuls at a time are you eating more than 3 or 4 meals a day - I can't imagine feeling full after 5 mouthfuls. I know you say it's not easy but PM makes it sound as though it should be - the fact that it is makes me feel as though its no different to dieting and you could fall off the wagon at any time - sorry to sound so negative - I think you're doing really great :)

Millli · 12/11/2014 14:06

Its not dieting hippy because you are in control. No one else is influencing what you eat. It is body led eating. You listen to your body and eat when it needs refuelling.

If you eat following the four rules and pause between each mouthful to see if you are still hungry. If you are have another and then assess again.
That's the bit that's not easy. Learning when you have had enough.
I think five mouthfuls is where I have found myself to be satisfied and of course not everyone will feel the same. Its not being full at all, its just feeling that my hunger is satisfied and I can stop. I can always eat again later if the hunger should return. I think once you get in touch with your own hunger then it becomes easier.
Paul McKenna and other followers of mindful eating are just explaining that eating has become too overcomplicated. Food should be enjoyable and it shouldn't be put into good and bad boxes. If you want something and you are truly hungry then you need to eat exactly what you are hungry for.

Its not like diets at all. Its the total opposite. As long as you only eat when your truly hungry and stop when your full, which is exactly how slim people eat then it works. That is the aim of Paul McKenna. To get you back to eating instinctively and when your body needs food.

Millli · 12/11/2014 14:09

sorry not full, but satisfied. Full to me is when I have eaten too much. Satisfied is when I feel that my urgent hunger is gone.
Does that make any sense. Smile

hippyfly · 12/11/2014 15:25

Thanks Millli, yes it makes sense - just need time I suppose to get used to it - I'm feeling a lot more determined today :)

Millli · 12/11/2014 15:29

It takes time. Time to adjust, understand and change your mindset. This is about having your cake and eating it......but not more than you really need Grin

Millli · 12/11/2014 15:31

There are some good reviews on amazon for his weight loss books. Always inspiring.

Solo · 14/11/2014 12:59

I've had a crap couple of days. Yesterday, I don't think I stopped eating. I'm thinking that it must be the ghost of Aunt Flo as it always seems to happen at the time she would've visited had she been with me still.

OP posts:
Nillia · 15/11/2014 13:13

How's everyone getting on. My clothes are looser and that is a good incentive for me. The waistbands got tight in the summer and I couldn't wear some things. I'm looking forward to getting back into other items too. I got a couple of things out of storage yesterday and tried them on. They didn't fit but they are my new goal. A lovely black long velvet pencil skirt that I would like to wear Christmas Day. We shall see. I seem more determined to make this woe permanent now. A realisation that its down to me to make it work Smile

Solo · 17/11/2014 01:00

Well done Nillia! :) you sound very positive!

I am marking time currently, but I will get to my goal.

Went to my school re union and I did look good! Wink
