Hello all

toe i'm really glad you're ok but oh no to your DH. How are you both doing today?

Hair I don't really juice. I think re: fruit juices be careful how much you put in there as they can actually be high in sugar and the process of juicing fruit messes up the fibre so you don't get all the goodness of eating them as fruit. I think veg juices would obviously be lower in sugar. I've been recommended recently making a juice/smoothie with frozen berries, apples, bananas and spinach, apparently a little spinach and you dont' notice it and it's a good way to get more iron in. Sorry, not tryign to put you off the juicing there Blush hope it didn't come out like that.

I once tried meal replacement shakes but I didn't give up any meals when I had it

Day 5 of no added sugar done. I'm so hungry all the time though. And I've eaten MORE than normal now. My body craves sugar. I keep thinking 'just a small bar of chocolate and then I'll feel much better/more full/satisfied' but I'm hoping it's just the withdrawl and am pushing through it and being strong. Took DD out to lunch with a couple of mners today and she had orange juice and ice cream (there was a main course in there too!) and had one sip/lick and refused to eat/drink the rest and I was so desperate to finish it off for her as it was such a waste, but I held firm.

stealth was it you going to Isle of Wight? Have you been yet? I can't remember if I told you about a park/playground we found on the drive down I thought might be useful to know about for you.

Reastie · 13/08/2014 21:00

Hair x posted (I'm very slow) FWIW juice/smoothies can only count as up to 1 portion of fruit a day despite how much fruit goes into it, it's the fibre/juicing process thing. I promise on this one that's true despite the labels on stuff which claim 3 of your 5 a day etc. I did this at uni. 1 portion is not to be sniffed at though.

TheOneWithTheHair · 13/08/2014 21:02

I was thinking mainly veg anyway Reastie. Dh doesn't have a sweet tooth.

Would a cup of milky tea help the sugar cravings? I find it helps me.

Reastie · 13/08/2014 21:11

I'm trying not to drink tea on the health drive hair . I don't usually drink it at all but recently I've got in the habit of an earl grey increasingly frequently, so I'm trying to knock that habit on the head too. Gosh I sound like such exciting company don't I Wink . I don't think I've ever actually had a vegetable juice . Are you back from holiday now?

kato where are you? gymming it up somewhere?

TheOneWithTheHair · 13/08/2014 21:39

I'm home atm. Just enough time to wash and repack.

I'm not sure I have any helpful suggestions for sugar replacement. It's a tricky one because you need to avoid eating stuff that is too sweet or it keeps the cravings going.

Reastie · 14/08/2014 07:09

I'll just push through it. I had to turn GBBO off last night as it was too tempting just to watch Blush

Hopefully got the plasterers in today to redo the bathroom ceiling, then decorating can recommence.

How did the weigh ins go this morning? I'm checking up on you that you did it!

WannaSplitAPineapple · 14/08/2014 07:25

Hi ladies I'm back off holiday and trying to catch up but this new layout if horrible! All the messages kinda merge and you can't easily spot who's saying what Confused I have gathered that its reastie that's given up sugar, well done you. That must be hard. I'm gonna read everything again tonight when I have more time so I can try and get my head round the stupid new format!
I did surprisingly well on holiday and despite eating dessert every night Blush I only put on 1lb. I think it helped that I only ate set meals and they were all proper food not junk and crap. Seeing my holiday photos has made me realise I do need to get back in to it as I'm really not happy.

ToeFluff · 14/08/2014 08:10

Goodness that sounds busy but lovely though!

Welcome back wanna, glad you had a nice time and well done for only putting on a lb.

I weighed a few mins ago and am gobsmacked I have only put on a lb. I'm not sure how that works as my body is clearly bigger. I'm going measure my belly and keep track of it each week. Weight seems to be a bit useless atm.

Resetting today though and feeling positive.

Reastie you may feel like you are struggling but you are doing absolutely fantastic. Well done. It's not failing to want it..just to give in and scoff it ! I take my hat off to you that's such a challenge.

ToeFluff · 14/08/2014 08:18

Eeeek, just entered waist and hips measurements into mfp. If I lost my phone I'd be mortified!

Ps I forgot to ha ha at the trying meal replacement shakes..and still eating meals!

TheOneWithTheHair · 14/08/2014 09:32

Welcome back Wanna. The mobile site is fixed now so we should be readable. Glad you had a good holiday. :)

Will weigh in next 1/2hr and report back.

TheOneWithTheHair · 14/08/2014 09:52

Do it eighty it's an impromptu weigh day! Grin

TheOneWithTheHair · 14/08/2014 13:43

Indeed. I've found it's like taking a plaster off. You have to do it quickly.

Grin I'll hold you to that weigh in Eighty!

TheOneWithTheHair · 15/08/2014 09:32

Did you weigh yet Eighty?

How's everyone doing today? I'm busy packing for the next two stages of our holidays and I have a wedding tomorrow.

TheOneWithTheHair · 15/08/2014 13:53

I had a bit of an epiphany earlier. Sorry, this could be long.

I lost 1.5st on the original threads and I have maintained that for about 1.5yrs now. A very long time. I know this is a good thing as nobody likes to yoyo, however, I think it's working against me.

The emphasis on the last threads was very much about making small and sustainable changes to your diet and exercise so that any weightloss can be easily maintained and that obviously worked for me. So much so that I don't notice any changes now.

If I slip up a few days, I know it will even out in the long run.

This is the crux of my problem. I've stopped paying much attention to what I'm eating because I know it won't add up to a massive gain. This takes away the feeling that I'm sabotaging my efforts.

Obviously I need to pay more attention to what I'm eating in order to actually lose weight as I still have the eternal 1.5st to go.

I have made a new resolution that after I come back from London in two weeks, I am making a new start. A proper concerted effort.

Sorry for my ramblings and I hope that it made sense. What do you think?

InMySpareTime · 15/08/2014 14:34

Hair, I'll certainly try to help you when you're back. The good news is that going from maintaining to slowly losing weight is usually only about small changes, a few hundred calories difference in what you consume or burn will make all the difference if it's consistently every day.

KatoPotato · 15/08/2014 14:44

Sorry I've been AWOL

DS started primary school yesterday, so I've been an emotional wreck...

Reastie · 15/08/2014 15:09

Hair that makes absolute sense to me, I completely understand and I feel the same way. Infact, that's why I decided to give up sugar, I felt like I was being too complacent and needed to kick myself into gear and work hard again. Losing 1.5 stone is fab, and maintaining it for that long is excellent, far better than gaining and losing the same amount several times in that time. I say go for your plan when you come back from London. Prepare mentally about what you will have so you can run the cupboards down of things you won't eat and stock in things ready so even when you feel the urge you have something healthy to turn to. Enjoy the wedding

eighty we're all looking at you to see how you got on!

Still sugar free here. i've discovered I am my worlds worst critic. See, you lovely ladies are here telling me how great it is I'm managing to do this, and all I can tell myself is 'pah, I had 3 dates, 2 dried apricots, an apple, too many oats, and a banana yesterday. That's not really sugar free. I'm not doing this very well. I'm useless' even though I've given up anything with added sugar in. I need to be kinder on myself as I'm my own worst enemy.

Reastie · 15/08/2014 15:09

x posted kato how's the little Robin doing? And, more importantly, how are you?

TheOneWithTheHair · 15/08/2014 15:15

Glad it didn't come across as garbled nonsense. Grin

Thanks IMST.

Reatie, it's actually really hard to not eat anything with no added sugar so you're doing brilliantly! I'm not sure I could do it. I would feel too deprived I think.

Kato, big day! How did he get on? How did you? I know that awful knot in your stomach and inability to do anything feeling well. The constant worrying how they're getting on. I promise it will pass! Did you turn up mega early to pick him up? That's what I usually end up doing.

TheOneWithTheHair · 15/08/2014 15:15

*really hard not to eat anything with added sugar.
