So a new thread, a new more motivated state of mind.

We will be skinny. No more excuses.

SolitudeSometimesIs · 24/03/2014 14:29

Oh thanks Mothergothel,

I'll check it out. Might even give it a go later. DH can be banished to the kitchen while I do it.

C'mon Green, join me in Shredding. You can sympathise with my achiness.

OP posts:
stuckindamiddle · 24/03/2014 15:22

I bought the Shred DVD recently and did my first workout with it on Saturday. Was level 1. Felt good! I worked up a sweat and liked the format. You need hand weights.

BeyondTheSea · 24/03/2014 15:24

Welcome mothergothel.

sol well done on your restraint and especially well done on the wine! I think ww does change how you eat and view food. I now make a choice between carbs or a sweet treat, I know I can't have both.

Green do you mind inputting my data please? Sorry, I couldn't work out how to do it. Aim 28lbs to lose, 3lb loss in week 1, STS in week 2.

Worship how are you getting on with couch to 5k? I am gong to try and start next week. Sorry to hear your mat leave was not smooth.
DD seems to have the virus I had last week. She's having a little snooze on me, her cough kept waking her in the night.
DS has his birthday party this weekend, I will be indulging in party food, but plan to be very good til then. My weigh in will be Saturday morning.

Mothers guilt yes, and constant fear that anything could happen to them, I should be a rake really! I am trying to be pragmatic about my return to work, finding it hard though :( much harder than last time. I am trying to make a positive plan re my hours and nursery days.

BeyondTheSea · 24/03/2014 15:27

Well done stuck I almost feel I should give it a go.

SolitudeSometimesIs · 24/03/2014 16:21

Sorry to hear that BabyBeyond isn't well. I hope she feels better soon.

I think making a plan might help you feel a bit better about going back to work. At least then you will know where you stand. Why is there no such thing as Fathers guilt? My DH trots off to work every day and says he does wonder what the boys are up to and always rings to see how we are, but he doesn't have that heavy hearted guilt about it all. Not fair!

Mothergothel99 · 24/03/2014 18:36

I'm done for the day :-) thanks for the warm welcome everyone.

Shred level one 20mins
TA arm workout 10mins
Extra weights 10 mins
Yoga 35 mins.

Will sleep tonight and ache tomorrow.

Tomorrows plan; shred, swim, power walk/ jog. I took some photographs of myself in my underwear today. Quite a shock to see exactly how I look, I'm not fat (9stone) but I'm so flabby. I got out some photos from my twenties and am shocked at how much bigger I am. Must be vanity sizing as I can still fit in an 8 with some overspill
Even more motivated now.

Greenrabbit · 24/03/2014 21:53

Beyond - I've added your data. Hope the baby is feeling better soon.

Sol- I'll find my exercise gear out and have a look at the DVD. I might give it a go. Grin
I'm so tired tonight. I've had crisps but I'll point them. Will try to fit a walk in tomorrow and I'll join in the hokey kokey (sp?) at toddlers. That's probably at my level of co-ordination.
I've tried to sort the dates on the spreadsheet, but excel hates me. The dates start on a Saturday (15/3/14). We are on to our losses for week 2 now, and this Saturday will be week 3? Tell me if that's not okay. There is a tab on the spreadsheet that says 'edit workbook' which will let you fill data in. It saves automatically.
Mother- wow, how motivated are you?

Link to our spreadsheet if anyone wants to join in 1drv.ms/OG7neD

curiousuze · 25/03/2014 08:42

I haven't really got a method! I've just done half an hour on the exercise bike. Trying to get to the gym at work twice a week. As for a diet, I haven't a clue - I'm still breastfeeding (but DS is 16 months so I doubt I'm using masses of calories any more) and I feel knackered all the time! Any suggestions?

curiousuze · 25/03/2014 08:46

Sorry I can't add my deets to the spreadsheet - microsoft won't let me verify my account.

BeyondTheSea · 25/03/2014 10:27

Thanks for adding my data Green I really think your sheet and this thread will help. I don't want to be doing the posts of shame all the time :)

Curious - could you try cutting out the carbs? I bet you are using at least 300 calories bf, they are really efficient at getting the milk when older.

mothergothel I felt quite exhausted just reading your post. I ma going to be shamed into doing exercise aren't I by you all….

Mothergothel99 · 25/03/2014 13:52

Thank you, yes I am motivated the photographs were hideous.

Shred level one, 20mins
tone it up Tuesday arms, 10mins
swim 45mins
Walk 30 mins

I'm done for the day Smile treated myself to half a pizza for lunch. Otherwise a good food day.

IWorshipSatin · 25/03/2014 20:52

Beyond - couch to 5k is taking a brief hiatus as DH has been away for a week so I've nobody to mind the kids. I only got to day 2 but I loved both times haha! He's back Thursday and I'm back fully on it then, I want to be doing a parkrun by May [ambitious] .

I couldn't Shred yesterday or today as baby refused to nap all day except on me Sad My calves are still hurting from last time I did it though.

All I've done exercise-wise lately is planking and walking Hmm I miss it. I'm such a crap runner but I do enjoy the feeling of doing it.

SolitudeSometimesIs · 26/03/2014 13:20

Aaaagggghhhhh!

I've gained 2 fucking pounds!!!!!

Aaaagggghhhhh!

I'm so annoyed. I haven't eaten over my points.

OP posts:
Greenrabbit · 26/03/2014 14:21

Ahh Sol. It's rubbish when that happens. It'll just be water. You'll lose it by next week for sure. Don't let it spoil your week.
I've lost 1 lb this week. I then went to the tea rooms at the garden centre and had cake and half a cheese scone. Blush. I've skipped lunch to make up for it. Yesterday I went to Home Bargins (does anyone else have them?) and I bought no sweets or chocolate. I did buy some crisps, but I'm only human. I also resisted the bakery and cheese aisle in M&S.
I'm slowly realising that I do have some will power and if I keep over eating I will never be thinner. I do not want to be the fat Mam at school when DD starts in September. I may even try exercise this week.

BeyondTheSea · 26/03/2014 14:23

Oh no! Retaining water? re weigh tomorrow?
Maybe you will lose loads next week, I think it's normal to have a week like this sometimes?
Don't lose heart, you are doing so well.

I was watching something on tv this morning re low fat products being higher in sugar. I think I may need to wean myself off diet yogurts!

SolitudeSometimesIs · 27/03/2014 10:46

Congratulations on your 1 lb weight loss. I think you deserved that scone. You do have some will power, you avoided sweets and chocolate!

Beyond - low fat yogurts are the devil. Bin them. They are packed with sugar. As is any low fat food, diet foods tend to packed with artificial sugar so your better off buying the high quality, full fat version and really enjoying them.

Ok. I've shaken off the rage and fury of yesterday and I'm back to normal.

I was so annoyed yesterday. DH was woken up by me yelling "Are you fucking kidding me!" at the scales, he thought I was on the phone.

I had a little think about what I could have done differently. I'd like you to be honest with me and let me know if I've been messing up.

1: I've been eating really late at night. I sometimes don't get dinner until 9pm and then I'm in bed by 10.30pm and don't really have time to move off the sofa post-dinner.

2: I've had a few glasses over the week, I usually drink vodka. Although I pointed them, do you think wine just is too sugary and making me gain weight?

3: I have been eating carbs much more than normal, even though they are healthy carbs, there's definitely been more carbs than protein this week.

4: I have a screwed up metabolism that gets fatter the more salad I eat.

I had a day off the diet yesterday and had some crisps and a goats cheese pizza for dinner. I felt so cheated after avoiding all of the tasty food at the weekend, so I went for it yesterday. But I am very focused now. It's not too long until Easter and I want to be thinner by then.

OP posts:
BeyondTheSea · 27/03/2014 14:44

Sorry Green I missed your post. Well done on you lb! I love tea rooms/garden centres. Think I am supposed to be retired really. And yes you are showing great will power :)

Solitude I would felt exactly the same - so unfair especially as you avoided loads of treats. I have no idea re diets really, but I do think eating late at night doesn't help. Could you have something light when the children eat and then something smaller at your real dinner time?
Also I don't think it's wine - but I would carb reduce which is hard when you are veggie? I wouldn't eat carbs with your late evening meal and see if this helps.

Yes - I am going to stop with the low fat rubbish. Do you think it's the same for low cal hot chocolate as I love that and it keeps me going through the day!

Toddler group and soft play so far today - am shattered!

SolitudeSometimesIs · 27/03/2014 16:16

Low fat hot chocolate has sweetener in it, but I still drink it.

Thanks for your advice. I can't eat when the kids do, at DS1's dinner time DS2 has his bottle, no matter how often I change DS1's dinner time. I can reduce my carbs, I just had a ton of carby foods in the house so I had some of them. I will reduce the carbs from this week on.

How are you getting on with your diet? Soft play and toddler group? You are a brave woman.

OP posts:
BeyondTheSea · 27/03/2014 16:57

I'm doing ok - I think I'm having too much chocolate but have really reduced the carbs. Have been exhausted this week, DD cough is keeping her awake, I just got her to sleep this afternoon when DS shouted at her in her cot, I was so cross and told him he was naughty - cue hysterics from both of them.

Weigh in Saturday - I don't think it will be major weight loss but hopefully a lb.

That's tricky, could you have a snack before them? It's a constant juggle though I know. I had ham and yogurt for lunch today at 1430 so then had some chocolate. I need to plan better.

SolitudeSometimesIs · 27/03/2014 17:30

We've had a little of that behaviour from DS1 when the baby is asleep. Rowdy behaviour and excessive noise is par for the course in this house, they're so high energy at that age (unfortunately I am not). I usually end up getting annoyed too, it's very frustrating. Your poor DD, is she keeping you awake too?

How much ham and yogurt do you have for lunch? I'm just curious because I could have the Cheatin Meats ham but I dont want to starve.

OP posts:
BeyondTheSea · 27/03/2014 19:49

I had 3 slices of ham and 2 ww yogurts. I actually felt pretty full. Obviously would have been better to have had some salad with it but I just didn't have time.
Do you eat fish? Tuna with peppers, red onion and mixed leaves is another favourite. I also had a few cashew nuts.
Having stir fry for dinner.

Greenrabbit · 27/03/2014 20:25

Sol- glad you're feeling better today. I've been having a look at your list.

  1. I don't think eating late will affect your loss, , but could it possibly be taking longer to digest food and maybe causing bloating? I usually eat late as DH isn't in till later, but if I eat earlier with the children I feel 'lighter' on a morning. (This is my made up scientific theory)
  2. This is the case for me, but as I said before I can never stop at one glass and I like my wine accompanied by crisps. I've usually done better with gin on a diet. Wine is high in carbs, but gin and vodka are pretty low? GI effect?
  3. I always weigh more the day after having pasta or rice for dinner, especially if they are white. I agree with you on the more protein less carbs theory. Also I always eat more of pasta and rice than I would of potato/sweet potato.
  4. Most likely to be the case. Smile
Could you have more high protein snacks during the day? I like cottage cheese and it's low points, even the full fat which is nicer. Do you eat eggs? I sometimes make little omelettes/frittatas to snack on. I make them in silicon muffin trays, they keep the the fridge for a few days. I used to take them to work as I never had time to eat properly.
Greenrabbit · 27/03/2014 20:48

Beyond- thanks, I'm taking it a day at a time. But normally on a weigh in day I'd go mad so I see it as a small victory!
With regards to the yogurt I agree with Sol. A real yoghurt will be more satisfying than low fat so you will be less likely to have a second one. If you google the effects of artificial sweeteners on weight loss it gives you all the science about how they affect insulin levels and their physiological effects. Are you eating them to fill you or for something sweet? I like cottage cheese on those ryvita that are like fluffy cardboard (not the normal ones)or with celery. Sainsburys and Aldi do dark chocolate bars that come with 5x 20g bars in the pack. They are 4 points each and really satisfying. Because they are little bars I tend to stop at one instead of eating half a big bar. I also like the nakd bars. They are 3-4 points each. They are on offer till 9am tomorrow on their website 'Natural Balance Foods' 50% off for their 10th Birthday. DD1 likes them too.
I hope your baby is better soon. Mine sound similar today, it's hard work. I did toddlers today and soft play yesterday. You are hardcore doing both.

Can you tell I'm extra bored tonight? DH has gone to USA for a week for work. I'm off to plan my shopping list for him now.

IWorshipSatin · 29/03/2014 07:33

Saturday is my new weigh-in day. Have STS but not surprised. Only did shred once this week, didn't run at all. Ate most of my half of one of those Tesco curry meal deal for 2 things last night whilst watching Catching Fire and drinking shitloads of wine.

Am back on it like a car bonnet today - c25k and gardening - yay to DH being home SmileSmileSmile

Am going to try hiring a sunbed today, that should melt the weight off Grin and if nothing else at least I FEEL slimmer with a bit of a tan.

Off to update the spreadsheet...

SolitudeSometimesIs · 29/03/2014 15:27

That sounds like a great night Worship. I mis-read your post and thought you were doing couch to 25k, I was terrified to think that might be a thing. STS is good, it's when you put on that's annoying. Believe me!

Green - is your husband going to be coming back laden with cool things? Benefit make up is really cheap over there (I am a make up junkie) so be sure to add that to your list. And remind him to take the tags off everything and learn how to say "Actually officer, I'm a cross dresser" if he gets stopped at customs. No one likes paying the duty if stopped.

Beyond - I would pass out if I ate that little. There's no way I could sustain it. Are you not ravenous by the end of the day?

I found a photo of myself from about 6/7 years ago and I looked so good in it. SO skinny. SO unfair. But then I remembered that back then I didn't eat dairy (I have an intolerance to it) but since being pregnant with DS1 I have been able to eat small amounts of it. But as the years have gone on I have been eating far more of it and living with the consequences (skin rashes, cramps, bloating etc.).

So I'm going to give it up for a week to see if I feel any better. The first time I gave it up I lost 10 lbs in a week, so while I wouldn't mind re-creating those results, I'm not expecting anything major. I just want to feel less sluggish and have a bit more energy. So watch out world - I'm going dairy free for a week.
