So a new thread, a new more motivated state of mind.

We will be skinny. No more excuses.

Evening all.
Sorry I've been a bit AWOL - things have been hectic between DDs naming ceremony last weekend, a days work this week and general baby/toddlerness madness.
Hope everyone is well.

I am delighted to say I lost 2lb this week (weighed in on Thurs) which I am so pleased about because I ate a lot of crap and drank a lot of prosecco at the naming and went out for pizza with my mates. It's TOTM now so am very bloated so am not hopeful for this week but we shall see. I've struggled with finding time to exercise this week but with the clocks going forward I might try C25K soon too.

I am planning to fall off the wagon tomorrow big style though as DH is taking me and the DC out for Mother's Day brunch and my mum is cooking us a big dinner. Back to porridge (literally) on Monday.

Sorry about your disappointment Solitude. I am sure you'll get a big loss this week, especially with the dairy ban.

Iworship What week are you on for C25K? I did it before years ago and found it great. I just need the time to do it now.

Hope everyone else is well!

SolitudeSometimesIs · 30/03/2014 09:52

Happy Mother's Day everyone. Hope you're all having a lovely day.

Winter that's brilliant that you lost 2 lbs. I hope you have a lovely food filled day today.

I'm listening to DS1 making my breakfast with DH. I'm getting pancakes. The fact that I don't like them has been by-passed because DS loves them. He's very sweet. He is also pleading his case to DH about why he should get a fart gun for his birthday. Apparently he needs one for school, ah the mind of a nearly 3 year old.

Enjoy Mother's Day.

OP posts:
BeyondTheSea · 30/03/2014 12:35

I have had birthday cake for breakfast.

I am going to have to be really good this week to make up for the excess of the weekend. Yesterdays weigh in showed a 1lb loss. I have however since then eaten my body weigh in cake, cheese and probably had about a bottle of prosecco.

Solitude good luck with the non dairy week. That's pretty hard core though. Do you eat fish? I'm trying to think how you could bump your protein up.
I think I was getting used to eating less, but I tend to snack every couple of hours too so I don't get ravenous. My aim this week is to cut out artificially sweetened foods.
I looked quite fat in some of the birthday photos so I can't get complacent, I carry all my weight around my tummy. Ds had a lovely day though, we had a space themed party. Unfortunately there is still a lot o cake lying around. I am going to send a cake to nursery with him tomorrow and try and off load more on people today (everyone was given a goody bag yesterday but there was still loads lift, think I over catered…)
Well done on your 2lbs Winter What did you wear to the naming ceremony. Enjoy your brunch.

Enjoy the sunshine :)

BeyondTheSea · 30/03/2014 12:39

Thanks for your advice Green I will get some naked bars.
We were in America in January. I got loads of OPI nail polish for around $8. I also got some Clinique lip gloss which was cheaper but I found a lot of things were not much cheaper than here. DH got a mini iPad and saved £80.
Good luck with weight loss for this week Worship

SolitudeSometimesIs · 30/03/2014 17:00

Yay on the weight loss Beyond. Enjoy the cake a and party food, it's only one day. I'm sure you looked lovely in the photos, we always think the worst of ourselves.

No Dairy should be a piece of cake , y'know the dairy free kind of cake. I did it for 5 years and it's very easy to do when dairy makes you feel sick. But why is it so dam n tasty!

OP posts:
Greenrabbit · 30/03/2014 21:48

Hope everyone has had a lovely weekend.

Great losses Winter and Beyond. Worship you still sound really motivated.
Good plan with the cake Beyond. We are having a Christening for DD2 in two weeks time and I'm trying to figure out the menu. I always over-cater and I don't want to be eating left overs for the rest of the week.
Sol the dairy free plans sound good. Will you use any dairy alternatives or just go without? I tried to cut out milk before but i love tea too much and it tasted weird with almond milk. if you lose 10lb next week i might be convinced to try again.
Thanks for the shopping tips. I might add some OPI to the list. In the end I just requested some things from Sephora that you can"t get hold of over here. I have enough makeup to last a life time, so I felt slightly guilty about getting more. The Clinique and Benefit didn't seem much cheaper after tax etc. The prices seem to have gone up since my last trip. I can report back with details of the haul if anyone is interested

I've ate far too much over the weekend. No real idea why, just terrible lack of self control. I feel bloated and horrible now. Serves me right I suppose. Back on it tomorrow. The thought of the Christening photos might help me stay on track. I looked like a whale in a bin bag last time.

We have no sunshine up North. It's been miserable, where is spring?

SolitudeSometimesIs · 31/03/2014 16:17

Green - you will not look like a whale in a bin bag! Have you an outfit picked out to wear? I know what you mean about lack of self control, it gets hard not to eat junk when you're tired and alone with the kids.

I'm not going to lose 10 lbs but I have come out in hives all up my back and shoulders as a reaction to giving up dairy, it happens every time yet I'm always surprised when it happens. I'm soooo itchy but I can't take antihistamines because they make me so drowsy and I'm here alone with the kids. I haven't weighed myself but I feel much better without dairy. I feel lighter if that makes any sense.

Any elses kids batshit crazy because of the time change? DS1 is a stroppy nightmare and DS2's feeding schedule is all over the place. I hate the time change.

OP posts:
Greenrabbit · 31/03/2014 21:09

Got a FC dress Solitude. It's red and flowery, so even if I look massive it won't look like a bin bag (hopefully). No idea yet about shoes.
Hope your hives get better soon. I know what you feel about feeling lighter. I think that feeling sometimes helps you to stay with the diet too?

My kids have been rubbish yesterday and today. Waking up much earlier and not going to sleep at night. DD1 is crying for her dad and baby is on a desperate mission to crawl, but can't so moans all the time. She still has no teeth. I'm so tired, that's why I'm feeling so sorry for myself. Oh and the weather is still crap.

SolitudeSometimesIs · 31/03/2014 23:40

You sound like you've had a crap day Green - vent away! It's so hard to be doing everything yourself without a break. My DH travels for work quite a bit so I feel your pain, though I have yet to have the 2 kids by myself (he's off for a week soon though) I'm absolutely dreading it.

And bad weather is the pits. The day always seems to go much better if you can get out for an hour. Children are like puppies, they need to run around in a field chasing a ball at least once a day .

Will your DH be able to take any time off when he gets back? Might give you a chance to catch up on some sleep. When is he back?

OP posts:
SolitudeSometimesIs · 01/04/2014 14:52

Oh my God.

Just got home from the shops and there are takeaway menus from 5 restaurants waiting for me. 2 chinese places, 1 indian, domino's pizza and the local chipper. That pretty much covers the full spectrum of takeaway foods.

Damn them!!!

Threw them all in the bin (after reading through them all and drooling over the tasty, tasty food).

OP posts:
SolitudeSometimesIs · 01/04/2014 15:35

Oh my God (No. 2).

My brother just turned up with 2 tins of chocolate (Quality Street and Celebrations) that he had meant to give us for Christmas but couldn't find. He found them in the spare room wardrobe when he was re-decorating.

Very sweet of him but why is the world conspiring against me?!

I have put them away and plan to feed them to visitors when it's DS1's birthday.

Eeek! Diet resolve is weakening.

OP posts:
Greenrabbit · 01/04/2014 19:28

The universe is truly against you today Solitude. Stay strong. Is it long till the Birthday? I usually put things like that on the top of the kitchen cupboards.
DH is back tomorrow. A tooth had appeared today, so I can forgive baby rabbit for being a grump.

SolitudeSometimesIs · 01/04/2014 20:55

Poor BabyRabbit, teething is a nightmare. I hope she's feeling a bit better. Hopefully you can get a break tomorrow when your DH comes home.

The party isn't for a few weeks but I have hidden the chocolates - I might send one tub in with DH when he goes to the office tomorrow. I had a teeny corner of DS1's pizza today and the cheese brought me out in blotches all over my face. Learned my lesson with that one. Not struggling at all with giving up dairy except for my emergency cuppa soups that I used to have.

OP posts:
Greenrabbit · 01/04/2014 21:35

Sounds like you are doing really well. I've just remembered a tin of biscuits hid on top of the kitchen cupboard. I'd normally take things like that into work.

I've had a reasonable couple of days, but I expect to have gained tomorrow! I've planned proper meals for the next few days, so should get back on track. Think I'll add cup a soup to the shopping list. Sometimes I make a hot drink with that Marigold vegetable bouillon powder, it's 16cals and quite nice. Could you have that instead?

Baby has had her Calpol and is sleeping (for now)

Greenrabbit · 01/04/2014 21:54

The bouillon has lactose in, so it's probably no good for you?

IWorshipSatin · 02/04/2014 10:02

Hey all,
Is anyone else doing Shred? I've done it 6 times now but still on level 1, getting pretty bored of it. I'm rubbish at doing it every day though, it'll take me about a year to get through it at this rate.

Cto5k not going so well either, wish I had a treadmill, much easier than leaving the house!

Tried to give up carbs this week in a last ditch effort before I return to work (RTW!!) but failed abysmally.

We are all making lots of effort though, even if I only lose a few pounds from this thread and not the 20 I'd like, it's still better than what I'd have done alone!

Greenrabbit · 02/04/2014 12:15

Hi Worship. I've still done no real exercise. I'm too scared to start the shred. I know I won't be able to walk after. I think you are doing amazingly well fitting any exercise in.
I think giving up carbs is really difficult to do. Especially if you are having to cook for others.

I've STS this week, which is bloody miraculous as I seemed to eat loads of rubbish this weekend. I think it maybe seemed worse than it was as I'd been eating pretty healthily for the last 2 weeks.

I really think this thread has helped loads, so thanks to everyone for the support Thanks

BeyondTheSea · 02/04/2014 17:11

Solitude I love celebrations - I wouldn't have been able to resist! When are you weighing in this week?

Worship I was thinking only today how much easier a treadmill would be, I don't really want the clutter of it though!

Green Hope Baby is feeling better now the tooth has appeared. DD still doesn't have any although I keep thinking she is red cheeked and hot. Don't worry about STS, aim for a lb next week with me?

I don't seem to be in the zone this week, doubt I will lose. Won't feel too bad as along as I don't gain. Weigh in on Saturday.

SolitudeSometimesIs · 02/04/2014 18:45

Beyond - I'm going to weigh in on Friday. Though I used my broken scales for a weigh in today and it said I was 12 stone. Oh how I wish. I know what you mean about being in the zone. Sometimes it's just so arse-achingly boring to be on a diet.

Worship - I haven't been shredding, DH is working very late every night this week and by the time DS2 is down for the night it's past midnight and I can't be arsed then. Ah, RTW, I get it now. That's amazing that you worked out 6 times in one week, are you ready to go up a level? Apparently there's a big difference in levels. You mighn't see the results on the scales but you're toning up, soon you'll see it in the way your clothes fit.

Green - That's great that you stayed the same, especially if you thought you'd put on some. Did your DH bring you home lots of nice things?

I had crisps that I thought were dairy free but they must have changed their recipe. So I have a blistering rash on the inside of my wrist. Nice! I'm going to weigh in on Friday because I'll have been off dairy for a week then. I just want to have lost the 2 lbs I had put back on. That's my goal. Discovered Butternut Squash chips today, they taste like sweet potato but are points free. I peel the skin off though some recipes say to leave the skin on. You have to cook them at a high heat in the oven or they stay a bit mushy.

Hey All

Can I join? Husband away tonight and browsing mumsnet forum and thought I could share my weight loss battle (hell) with others. May motivate me more if I report progress to somebody else.

Thinking I will spend some time after dinner reading through the thread to find out about all you lovely people.

I started making an effort last week and lost 4lb with another 4lb so far this week (I weigh on Mondays). Am still breast feeding dd2 who is now 20weeks so my plan is to eat 3 good meals, no snacks and use the exercise bike 4 times per week. Will be keeping an eye on LO to make sure her weight gain is not affected and she remains content. Treat day on Friday either having normal meal followed by dessert or takeaway.

I would like to lose 3 stone (very little of this is baby weight, I needed to lose weight before getting pg).

Looking forward to getting slim with you all!

x

PS First ever post on mumsnet so apologies if it takes a while for me to get the hang of how it works here!

gruffalo82 · 02/04/2014 20:47

Just had a read through. Gosh some of you are exercising loads, I might have a look at Shred as the exercise bike is tedious and it would be good to break it up a bit. I did C25k before but DH works long hours so waiting for lighter (and drier) evenings before starting this again.

Love the spreadsheet to help keep track of everyone's loses.

Also like the idea of aiming for 1lb per week as it is realisitic and sustainable What does STS mean?

Butternut squash chips sound amazing, time to change my online order at Tesco!

winterpansy · 02/04/2014 22:01

Evening all!

Beyond I wore a black and white polka dot 50s style dress to the naming ceremony. The last time I wore it was to the register office part of my wedding (I had a Humanist ceremony the next day) in June 2012 and hadn't been able to get into it since then even before I got pregnant with DD in April 2013!

soliture Well done on ignoring the temptations sent to test you! You must be rewarded at weigh in. I love butternut squash - hadn't thought of doing it like chips. Must try that. I am making a concentrated effort on keeping my carb intake balanced so that would be a good option at dinners when DH and DS are eating spuds.

Welcome Gruffalo (DSs favourite books by the way!) Your weight loss has been fab so far. I want to lose just under 3 stone too and am aiming for a lb a week until Christmas. Althought I lost 2lb last week so am hoping for at least a STS this week as I have had a few extra chocs etc. on Mother's Day.

All good here - I am finding I am snacking a bit more than I have been and have been around 100 cals over each day on MyFitnessPal so need to keep an eye on that. Weigh in tomorrow and I am hoping for a sts.

Hope everyone else is well.

IWorshipSatin · 03/04/2014 08:33

Hi Gruffalo! Shred is great. The first 2 or 3 were pretty harsh, I was hanging, but now I can do it pretty easy without feeling like I'm gonna die which makes me feel like it must be doing some good. I must ACTUALLY be fitter even if I don't feel it!

Thanks Sol, it wasn't 6 times in a week though, more like 6 times in a month. Really, give it a go, I'm so unfit and done virtually no exercise for 3 years, I've barely even walked to the corner shop, so I reckon if I can do it anyone can. Within the levels there's an easy lady and a hard lady to follow and I'm now following the hard lady. I was ready to go up a level til you just said that! Don't think I can cope if it's way harder!

Am trying carb free today, I know 1 day won't make much difference but it's a start and if it goes well I will continue.

winterpansy · 03/04/2014 12:31

STS as predicted! I am going to make a concentrated effort this week for 2lbs off as I have a big night out next Fri night (first night out since having DD) so would like to be at xx stone 7lb - purely for my own confidence.

weesazz · 03/04/2014 14:07

DD is 23 weeks. I have been trying to lose a stone for the past 12 weeks (admittedly through diet alone as simply don't have the time to exercise with DD taking up most of my time) to no avail. Lost a grand total of 2 lbs. The galling thing is I lost the baby weight as soon as I popped, and then piled on a stone afterwards (eating at funny times, lack of sleep, no time/too tired to prepare sensible meals).

Really need to getting act together. I can't face looking in the mirror. Was trying dresses on for a friends wedding recently and almost cried in the changing room, nothing looked remotely nice on me.

MFP helped me to lose a stone for my wedding 2 years ago, so going to try it again. I need to do it, I owe it to myself to feel good about myself after a difficult year. I'm the only one who can do this.
