So a new thread, a new more motivated state of mind.

We will be skinny. No more excuses.

I had lots of zero point soup today. God it was boring but I have to weigh in with a visibly slenderer (that's a word right?) DH. I know it's really bad and probably very unsupportive but I want to at least lose a few pounds if he's going to lose loads.

He's really got in to the whole thing though and was utterly scandalised to discover that there's 11 points in a scone (he'd had one for breakfast).

SolitudeSometimesIs · 21/08/2014 15:28

3 lbs down. Yay!

Only about 80 to go.

Well done Sol - that's amazing. How did your DH do?
How are you Green?

I am sure I have put on weight, we have a very tiresome few weeks and carbs have been my friend. But starting a diet club in the office, will be much harder for me to cheat.. our first weigh in is next Friday.

Greenrabbit · 22/08/2014 20:39

Yay Sol, that's brilliant. All that soup must have been worth it! I also want to know how DH did, although I hate the fact that men lose it so quickly.

I'm doing okay actually Beyond. Plodding on, I think the week of low carbing /starving myself did some good. After the ice cream at the weekend I went back to healthy eating on Monday. I just need to get through the Bank holiday without any major slip ups. I can feel PMT brewing which could be dangerous.
Good luck with your diet club. We used to gave a Friday fat club at work. we'd get weighed every week, but by the end of the term we'd never have lost anything! You'll all have to get competitive.
Has the illness gone from your house yet? I think carbs are the only way to get through these things.

Greenrabbit · 22/08/2014 20:54

The books I bought:

Gizzi. Some nice recipes in this. It's a keeper.

Bread. Haven't looked at this yet, I just love bread.
Marian I love Marian Keyes books and this is full of lovely recipes which look quite easy. They will have to wait till I'm thinner and have more time.
Stacie local lass! makes lush cakes for a local cafe. The bakes in this book look so nice and the pictures are lovely. I'm keeping it so there!
Anjum had a flick through! looks good. I have one of her other books which gets used a lot.

I also got Nigella's Christmas. I love Christmas cookbook and this one is gorgeous.
Got a James Martin one for the Kindle, that looks okay, and I can't remember the other one I got. It was for home cooking as I need inspiration.

Sorry I've turned this into a food porn/ book club thread. I didn't mean to order so many books, but they were soo cheap! I'm also meant to be de-cluttering. Oops.

SolitudeSometimesIs · 24/08/2014 09:59

Beyond you sound like you're having a rough few weeks. How's everybody doing now? A work slimming club is great, you can all motivate each other and I suppose you're less likely to cheat if you are all watching what you're eating. Carbs are good in times of sickness, it's better to eat whatever's available rather than let yourself become run down. Diets go out the window in times of illness as far as I'm concerned.

Green those books look great. I love a good cook book, DH laughs at me because every time I lead through them my stomach starts to rumble. Have you made anything out of them or are you saving it for a special occasion? Have you weighed yourself since you started eating healthier or are you just goingy your clothes?

Dh lost 4.4lbs and he only kind of stuck to the plan when he came home from work. The night before his weigh in he had 4 beers and a Mc Donalds so he was pretty delighted with himself. The physical changes have been huge though. He is far less bloated and his waist has shrunk quite a bit. He also loves having his lunch made for him and all pointed up so he doesn't have to worry about it.

I'm feeling pretty positive about sticking to it. I really want it to work this time. My brain has finally got the message, I am miserable being this overweight. But every reduction in on the scales is a victory as far as I am concerned. Be it 5 lbs or .5 lbs I don't care. I just want it gone. I'm not starving myself by any means but I am seeing how erratic my eating habits are. I was a demon for grabbing handfuls of food on the go and not realising how much it adds up. My goal this week is to lose 1lb.

Hope you're both having a lovely bank holiday weekend!

Signs that I am losing weight.

  1. My 1 big love handle has turned in to several smaller ones, my Dh is indeed a lucky man.
  1. My jaw line is slowly emerging.
  1. My jeans are baggier around my thighs.
  1. My bra is too big in the cup.

Some of them positive, number 2. Some of them annoying, number 4. And some of them are just plain weird and gross, number 1.

In other news in my little weight watchers world, the woman who has been bragging she has lost tons of weight doing ww has apparently had a gastric band fitted. Had it done in Spain so no one would know. There's huge gossip about it in my little group because she never stops being a cow about other people's weight.

I know that has feck all to do with this thread but it's really shocked me. I mean, there were signs something was up, she lives on 7up, haribo and takeaway but I just never copped it. I'm glad I've never had to go to those lengths to deceive people, I will happily admit I struggle, but she was such a cow when people were gaining weight and struggling.

Sorry for the rant about her. I am just so shocked.

Morning all.

I am back from the land of bugs and tiredness (fingers crossed, please god).
So I weighed myself on Saturday and I have indeed gained 2 lbs. So that means I now have 30lbs to owe and albs to get back to where I was 3 months ago doh!!
I am going to try a mixture of ww/cutting carbs (yet again!).
Hoping for a 2lbs loss this week.
Green I would want to eat cake whilst looking at those books - so best avoided in my case.
Sol - you sound in a really great place. Fingers crossed for your lb this week.
Gastric band shocker!! And wouldn't it be the cow of the group. How did you all find out?

SolitudeSometimesIs · 26/08/2014 14:43

2 lbs is a good place to start Beyond. Forget about the last few weeks and focus on what you can do about it, you will have the weight gone in no time. I have loads of weight to lose but I reckon that a bit of a weight loss is better than none at all.

GBL (gastric band lady) is my friends MIL, I'm probably outing myself spectacularly. There's been a little group of 4 of us who had had kids in the last few years doing ww together. We couldn't all afford the classes so we just said we'd set up our own little gang and see how we could do.

So GBL joined later, she has done ww many times and had put back on a huge amount of weight (she was claiming to be a size 16 but was clearly a size 22-24) but seemed to be in absolute denial about it, as we were to discover. We'd all meet up, have coffee and swap tips and recipes and log in our weight. As with here, everyone went through periods of losing/gaining and STS, but GBL recently managed to lose nearly double of everyone else. We weighed ourselves in our own homes so we had no way to check if this was true.

Anyway, my friend (her DIL) reached her goal weight and had bought herself a pair of size 10 jeans. She looked really amazing and we were all delighted for her, except GBL who said she could do with a bit of toning up as she had a muffin top. Friend really didn't, they fitted her perfectly. So GBL would trot out little comments, if someone stayed the same she would do a pretend scolding voice saying they weren't motivated. We all began to get very annoyed and friend felt like crap because she had encouraged her to join us.

So anyway, if you're still with me. GBL went away to Spain at the start of the Spring for 6 weeks. She came back looking the same, but suddenly started dropping a lot of weight. She looks very gaunt now but is still quite big, I'd say a size 16 top and 18 bottoms. She has a very big frame and is very tall, maybe 6ft. The only person I can think of is the actress Miranda Hart would be similar but GBL would be broader. So GBL would never be skinny because her frame is broad.

My friends DH copped something was up when his Dad said they had to go back to Spain for GBL to have a check-up for her stomach. Friends DH asked what was going on and his Dad changed the subject and said she'd had a tummy bug when they were away and it's common procedure in Spain for a doctor to want you to come back for a check up. There was also some letter hanging around GBL's kitchen from a hospital advising on post-surgical care. Friends DH doesn't have a great relationship with his parents so this sort of thing would not be talked about. But friends DH is certain she had the op as she had been talking about it years ago when her friend had had it done.

We haven't said anything to GBL about the fact we have our suspicions, we've decided to keep quiet unless she gets absolutely unbearable. None of us have an issue with her having gotten it done, we're more annoyed that she goes out of her way to be a cow to some of us who are really struggling with our weight and our self-image in general and she acts like she is so much better than us.

OP posts:

I lost 1 lb this week. Feeling pretty happy about that. Here's to one more pound this week, that's my goal.

Spent the day searching for school stuff for DS1 going back to Montessori next week, surely that burned off a few calories?

OP posts:
SolitudeSometimesIs · 28/08/2014 11:05

Sorry for posting here so much, but I'm doing it so I can't eat any of the food I have in my house.

I was very organised this week. I spent an hour working out a meal planner and pointing everything so that I had a trolley full of stuff but only enough to get us through the week. DS is back to school next week so to make sure I don't slip up I have made and frozen three batches of points free soup for lunch as I won't have time to make any fresh.

I normally have a sit down and a cup of coffee in the morning but now I have designated that time to doing one job that I don't usually have time for (organising the kids toys, sorting the hot press (I believe it's called and airing cupboard in England) and other time consuming yet boring things)and then spend some time online stuff. I'm trying to get organised for Christmas and DS2's birthday. If I don't keep busy I tend to snack.

How's everyone else getting on? How goes the slimming club Beyond? Have you tried any of your new recipes out Green?

OP posts:
BeyondTheSea · 28/08/2014 20:37

Well done on your lb Sol - you are doing so well.
We are doing our first weigh in next week. I have been trying to meal plan too but you sounds super organised.
I have had a lot of salad, might switch to soup next week :)

Loved you GB story - she sounds very annoying though.

SolitudeSometimesIs · 28/08/2014 21:30

Thanks Beyond. Losing this baby weight has been a long time coming, it's only coming off because I'm avoiding pasta, bread and rice. Carbs are a huge problem for me. GBL is a pain, I didn't go to our meet up this week because I can't trust myself not to be mean to her.

I hope you get a good result for your weigh in tomorrow. Points free soup is the way to go as the cold weather draws in. I put chilli in mine today and it was delicious.

I made a low calorie dessert today using 2 sachets of Options hot chocolate and 100g of Quark cheese. It's been on every diet website as a good alternative to chocolate mousse. IT IS NOT. It's super sour and pretty grim. I took one for the team ladies, avoid avoid avoid!

Weighed myself on Tuesday. Lost 6lb! I can't remember when I restarted, I think it was 4 weeks ago. So I'm pleased with that. (10lb lost this year) I've had raging PMT since and tried to eat all the food, so I've probably wrecked it all! I've definitely stopped eating so much generally and I haven't bought myself any junk which has definitely helped. I'll weigh myself again at the end of September.

Well done on your losses Sol. You are doing so well. I've also been setting myself jobs to do on an evening, it stops me wanting to snack. I've made my old desk into a dressing table (I'm mega excited by this). Organised all my makeup and toiletries. Been sorting through the children's clothes. I've also started thinking about Christmas so I want the house de cluttered by the end of October. I've also bought some knitting needles and wool, I was going to make DH a scarf but he looked horrified so it will be for me instead!

Good luck for your weigh in Beyond, hope everything has settled down for you now.

Loved the GBL story Sol. Please go next week and update. She sounds like a real bitch. Someone at work had a GB, she wasn't huge so I assume she went private. When I went back to work I was shocked at how gaunt and grey she looked. She was always someone who looked healthy with lovely hair and skin.

Greenrabbit · 29/08/2014 10:51

Made this soup yesterday. It's probably the nicest soup ever! Not point free, but if you replaced the chorizo with paprika (in with the other spices) and missed out the Harissa paste it would be very low in points. We had it for dinner last night, DH was even impressed.

I'm going to make carrot and coriander at the weekend and spicy butternut and red pepper next week.

New Mums still seeking new bodies - this time we'll do it.
BeyondTheSea · 30/08/2014 19:00

Hello Both,
Super well done on your 6lbs Green - amazing progress.

I STS but we had a work night out (am paying for it now - so tired, not used to going to bed at 0100). Will be trying vv hard for a weight loss next week.
Thanks for trying out that dessert Sol - does sound like one to avoid.
have a lovely weekend x

SolitudeSometimesIs · 30/08/2014 21:24

Yay Green, that's brilliant. It must have been such a good feeling to see smaller figures appear on the scale. Being busy is really good for burning a few extra calories and avoiding snacking. How goes the scarf making? The cheek of your DH not wanting a handmade scarf! You should knit him a luminous orange one with big black letters on it that spell "My wife made this and now she's making me wear it". Or start an online shop where the scarves have a magic eye pattern on them and from far away the word "Twat" is as clear as day, but up close it looks like a design. I know one woman I would definitely buy one of those for Grin

STS is better than putting anything on Beyond. Did you go anywhere nice for your night out? I met up with a friend last night and had 4 vodkas and I died of a hangover today. I am such a light weight, I am never doing that again. It's just not worth it.

OP posts:
BeyondTheSea · 31/08/2014 10:45

Me too Sol- only had 3 glasses, was not good the next day and had a carb feast...

BeyondTheSea · 01/09/2014 21:01

Am starving - my combination of low carb/ww/my fitness pal had better see some results!

SolitudeSometimesIs · 01/09/2014 21:24

Oh Beyond it was quite the carb fest. I made a huge bowl of onion rings for breakfast Blush We went out for a wholesome family trip to the local farm and had to stop myself barfing. Never again!

I know what you mean about the hunger, it's crap. Stick with your plan. It will be worth it I can guarantee it will be worth it. Have you anything you can do to keep yourself occupied, laundry has been sorted here to keep me out of the kitchen.

OP posts:
SolitudeSometimesIs · 02/09/2014 12:07

Just back from my weekly shop, I bought weight watchers chocolate mousses, they're 3 points and really nice. I had them with 2 smashed up meringues, so 6 points in total. I have points free soup bubbling along on the cooker so that my day isn't a total write off.

DS1 is back in school this week and it has been pretty full on. It's going to take a little getting used to all the running around. DH is away for a good bit this week so I'm trying to be organised and not resort to junk food. I've had the biggest craving for an indian takeaway for the last week, but my points allowance would explode if I did.

OP posts:
SolitudeSometimesIs · 04/09/2014 11:26

Stayed the same this week. Probably due to my immense carb and junk food haze while I was hungover. Not going to let that happen again this week. My goal is 2 lbs this week.

OP posts:
BeyondTheSea · 05/09/2014 14:21

Never mind Sol, fingers for a weight loss next week. I think I will STS (had sneaky pre weigh today) although DH thanks my shape has changed.
How's your week been - hope you've not been too frantic.
