I am 4 stone over weight and it's making me very unhappy. I've been saying I'll lose weight for the last two years! Instead I've just gotten fatter.

I know most people don't keep up their new years resolutions but I am hoping having a thread on here will help.

If anyone is interested please feel free to join me. I will be using weight watchers but I would love anyone to join.

I intend to start on Jan 1st. I've bought
a nice diary to write my food in.

I'd love it if people could share meal plans and recipie ideas.

Justonemore, that's great will power. I probably should have added that I ate much of said treats before throwing the rest away...Blush

89 calories over today. It's the bloody wine that does it, I need to stop!

ApplySomePressure · 27/12/2013 19:41

Also noticed that we cannot see each other's food diaries unless you change your privacy settings.

Go to settings> diary settings> Diary sharing> friends only

Just made mine visible to friends Smile

I'm in too disgusted with how I've let myself go so I've around 4 stone to go here to I'm a classic binge/comfort eater and I'm slowly killing myself. Don't want DS to have such a bad relationship with food.

theoldtrout01876 · 27/12/2013 20:56

Id like to join too please. Im 5 foot 3 and overweight. I dont know how much though as I havent weighed myself in 9 years. Im 2 sizes bigger than I was before I had Dd2 ( 9 years ago). I hate how I look too. Im also giving up smoking next week. Ive never really dieted before so really have no clue how and Im rather intimidated by the whole thing. I have RA and find exercise very painful so not sure how much I can do of that. ( one of the reasons I got so much bigger I think )There are NO pools anywhere near by I can use either.

darwiniandreams · 27/12/2013 21:16

It's a double edge sword isn't it? I feel a lot of my pain now is due to my weight. I'm hoping I can learn to manage it better by losing weight to see if that helps. Smile

Issyw · 27/12/2013 21:19

I'm in too - got to lose 3 stone by June for a family wedding and little boy will be 8 months then. Will be nice to have others to diet with. Planning on motivating myself to go on daily walks with little one and start back at Zumba once a week initially on top of healthy eating.

MyNameIsKenAdams · 27/12/2013 21:50

Am hoping a sober January will help get the weight loss started.

HepsibarCrinkletoes · 27/12/2013 22:42

Well I've been pondering my plan since first post earlier and think I'm going to go for my weigh in on a Friday. I will be doing the 5:2 for sure, which I will start next Wednesday (New Year and all that).

I intend to fast on Wednesday and Saturday each week, as those days work best for me being my busy, don't sit down/have time sort of days.

My plan on those days is for a late morning early lunch of a couple of poached eggs or a simple cucumber and prawn salad or similar; with a big bowl of homemade minestrone soup for supper. Proper minestrone, none of the pasta gubbins. DD3 also loves it, so that works well. She also has a big lunch at school and a packed lunch at her drama class on Saturday.

I have some amazingly tasty proper green tea that a friend bought in Shanghai, so will sup that through the fast days. I'm very partial to elderflower, so I'm going to see if I can get away with a couple of those with sparkling water within my 500 cals too.

TotallyAddictedToLurking · 27/12/2013 23:15

I have used MFP before and really liked the social aspect of it. I'm just wondering if it's worth doing that again and still going to the ww meetings to keep me motivated.

Another one here hoping the social aspect will keep me on track...

Have just stopped BFing in time for Christmas and getting a bit of a taste for alcohol again, so need to have a plan in place to not make that another bad habit along with the cake it's ok it's for the baby habit.

I'm about 12st at 5'4 with a disgusting tummy. Hope to do 5:2 and a bit of running/swimming when I can get the time.

1lb is a great target, looking forward to shopping in the sales next year and not feeling miserable Grin

tiredbuthappyworkingmum · 28/12/2013 00:12

I'm in. I was size 12 for my 20's & 30's and am nearing the end of my 40's a size 18/20... Will read the whole thread and get mfp sorted.

jchocchip · 28/12/2013 00:43

Me, I'm in. Need to do more running and weights and watch what I eat. Mfp worked when I used it... user name same as on here, feel free to nag me!

HoLilyChristmas311 · 28/12/2013 05:16

BadSeedsAddict · 28/12/2013 06:25

I'm in! Current weight 13st 10. I need to stick to Paleo (which I love and makes me feel great) and keep running with a bit of other exercise thrown in.

Youarejustwordsonascreenpeople · 28/12/2013 06:56

I managed 5 minutes on the eliptical trainer this morning. I have it on virtually no resistance so not too difficult but it was enough for me. I am hoping that I can build it up slowly.

My big downfall is coke. I drink about 2ltr a day.

MrsClauswearsspanx · 28/12/2013 07:17

I'm in. I never stick to anything but am also about 4 stone overweight and hate the way everything looks on me, too. Will get the app asap.

TheDietStartsTomorrow · 28/12/2013 07:39

So are we all going with seperate weigh in days or sticking with one? I vote Mondays btw; it helps me push myslef on the weekend to work out a little more.

Good to see so many of us determined to do something about our weight. Woohoo... this is going to be fun. We need some sort or order and structure to the thread though. Are we posting as and when or daily? Weekly?

I realised one of the reason I put weight on again after I lost it was because I tried to do too much too soon. I aimed for 2-3lbs a week which meant copious amount of exercise and dedicating a lot of time to planning my 'diet'. So a pound a week sounds like a more realistic and sustainable approach.

I'm going to give myself one small target each week to focus on. A little change each week might help me develop some long lasting good habits.

This week I'm going to focus on not eating anything after supper except a cup of coffee. If I can manage that for a week I'll be off to a good start.

justonemorecake · 28/12/2013 07:59

After someone recommending it, I got my husband to take a full length photo of me in just my underwear, so that I can see the progress I have made. It was not a good sight! When I get changed I normally avoid looking in the mirror, so I didn't realise how bad it had got! At least it was the shock I needed to make sure I definitely go ahead with this!

People talking about doing the 5:2 diet, how exactly does it work? I have a rough idea that you eat normally 5 days a week and fast 2 days?

CecyHall · 28/12/2013 08:03

Is anyone good at spreadsheets? I know on the low carb bootcamps they have a google doc spreadsheet that people add their loss to. I was thinking if it was just simple week 1, week 2 etc along the columns and usernames in the row we could add our lb weight loss each week with maybe a total sum at the end of the row and then it wouldn't matter so much whether we all weighed in/started on same day.

I'm not very good at spreadsheets though and I mainly internet on my phone otherwise I'd do it myself!

WoodBurnerBabe · 28/12/2013 08:07

If we are going to have a unified weigh in day, I would also vote for Mondays as well as it keeps me focused over the weekend :-) but it may not work for everyone, could we do a spreadsheet somehow to keep a track? If someone can tell me how to do one that I can store somewhere where everyone can see it I am happy to maintain it each week. Can't promise everyday, but will manage twice a week for the Monday weighers and the Friday weighers maybe?

justonemorecake · 28/12/2013 08:07

Yes I normally aim for 2-3lb weight loss a week and then lose motivation when I don't maintain it.

I'm not sure how we should structure the thread? If most people use mfp, that will have some structure so maybe the thread can be for posting as an when, when we need a bit of motivation or a chat? But I'm happy whatever people decide!

WoodBurnerBabe · 28/12/2013 08:10

Cross post! Yes CecyHall, I use spreadsheets every day - didn't know about Google docs though. Will investigate later and see if I can work something out!

WoodBurnerBabe · 28/12/2013 08:10

Agree that MFP would be easier though as everyone can update their own and it's more like a social network thing.
